I love to read Concrete Loop because you young people keep me clued in so I can stay relevant to the kids I teach (who’re always teaching me), but one thing nobody has explained (on this site or in my classrooms) is why you hate on Beyonce so much. Is it just that old syndrome of “building folks up so we can tear them down?”

There’s no hate for a girl like Beyonce coming from my end, its just the lack of knowledge people have. I mean, do the history, there is nothing to glorify when you bring up the issue of ignorance when it relates to one of the biggest stars in the game. She doesn’t rep black culture, and let’s not get blinded by world tours, there are serious issues affecting black people, and it doesn’t matter if your a light skin black person or a dark skin black person, in America black is black. I could understand if Beyonce didn’t just open her mouth up and praise Latino culture over black culture, that doesn’t sit well with me, nor should it sit well with any other balck person, unless your whitewashed. This is a hero to most, but she is a women who does nothing but sell her soul time and time again to the corporate powers that be, its not like she’s selling her own brand, she’s just selling her image which is nowhere near representation of blackness, and as a people we are losing everyday when we give praise to an artist like this. An artist who sheds her blackness just for the paper is a true sellout, and she’s selling her people out as well.
