TIMELIME OF EVENTS (for those of you who aren’t registered for the site Angel linked)

Documents released by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on Saturday detail the 11-day investigation that resulted in the arrest of Atlanta rapper Clifford “T.I.” Harris:

—Oct. 2: Harris’ bodyguard asks a licensed gun dealer about buying a machine gun without registering it, as required by law. The dealer reports the incident to ATF agents, who give the dealer the cell phone number of an undercover ATF agent, posing as a machine gun dealer, to pass along to the bodyguard. The bodyguard calls the number within hours.

—Oct. 10: Harris arranges for the bodyguard to pick up $12,000 in cash from his bank on Northside Parkway to buy the weapons. Later, the bodyguard meets with the undercover agent at a K-Mart store, 5997 Buford Highway, Doraville. The bodyguard gives the agent $2,200 and a .223-caliber pistol in exchange for three 9mm machine guns and two 9mm silencers. The bodyguard is then arrested. He tells agents he was buying the guns for Harris. He also says he has purchased about 25 firearms over the past 18 months for Harris and others. ATF agents confirm the purchases.

—Oct. 11: After agreeing to cooperate with the ATF, the bodyguard makes a monitored phone call to Harris. He tells Harris that he has “everything for you.”

—Oct. 12: Harris calls his bodyguard and arranges for him to deliver the firearms the next day.

—Oct. 13, between 12:30 and 1 p.m.: Harris calls the bodyguard and asks him to bring the items to a recording studio. At the direction of ATF agents, the bodyguard suggests that they instead meet at a shopping center parking lot at the corner of Piedmont and North avenues in Atlanta.

—2:22 p.m.: Harris arrives at the parking lot. The bodyguard gets into Harris’ vehicle and shows him the machine guns and silencers. When the bodyguard explains the function of one silencer, Harris says, “No flash, no bang.” Harris also asks about ammunition, the capacity of the magazine and about “change left over” from the $12,000. Authorities then move in and arrest Harris without incident. A search of his vehicle uncovers three firearms, including one tucked between the driver’s seat and the center console.

—2:40 p.m.: ATF agents begin searching Harris’s home at 429 Creekview Lane, College Park. They find three rifles, two pistols and a revolver in a walk-in closet in his bedroom. Five of the firearms are loaded.

—Monday: Harris, held in federal custody over the weekend, is scheduled to make his first appearance in federal court on two felony charges: possession of unregistered machine guns and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

Sad stuff. When will celebrities learn you got to be able who you trust.

There’s a lot about this that just doesn’t make sense… if you are buying a illegal machine gun and silencer, you don’t go to a reputable gun dealership and ask them not to report it. You buy the guns off the street, like all of the other criminals - esp. if you are a celebrity ex-felon.

The whole story is just a little shady - why you have to meet YOUR bodyguard at a parking lot? He’s your bodyguard, you’ll see him at the house, or wherever he comes to guard you.

There has got to be more to this — a lot more.

This is definitely a “how to” guide on how to be ghetto:

1. Get arrested in a Walgreens parking lot (I guess we should count our blessings it wasn’t a CVS or Kroger).

2. Make sure not only you get arrested, but all your “boys” and baby mama too.

3.Be sure to violate previous felony charges that way you are bound to get more time for this possesion.

4. H.A.M. it up at the BET bafoon awards with ice around your wrist and neck.

Finally………………….

5. Make sure that both mom and dad get arrested, that way no one is there to watch your umpteen kids.

At the time of Harris’ arrest, agents also took into custody his longtime girlfriend, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, and rappers Marc Boney and Young Dro, who record for T.I.’s Grand Hustle record label, said witness Hassan Musaddiq, a cameraman for the Atlanta public access hip hop show “Severe Entertainment.”

Atlanta police on Sunday said they charged Cottle with possession of marijuana and the drug “ecstasy.” Cottle and T.I. have a son named King.

Nobody set him up! He set himself up…if you are that concerned about your security either hire some protection, stay the hell home or find a new profession where you are less visable and can keep a low profile. If someone is trying to get him like that I am pretty sure they could get him no matter how many machine guns he has…we have already seen it with Tupac and Biggie.

MTO spoke exclusively with someone intimately involved with TI. And according to that individual, the charges against rapper TI are completely false!!

According to TI’s friend, the rapper never tried to purchase any guns through his bodyguard. The insider explained to MediaTakeOut.com, “[The bodyguard] asked TI for an advance on his [pay] and TI gave it to him …. Whatever he spent money on - whether it be guns, drugs, or formula for his children - TI had nothing to do with it.” The insider continued, “The government was just looking to pin a case on TI - they’ve been trying for years. So they pushed [the bodyguard] into snitching on TI.”

And the insider claims that the cache of weapons found in TI’s home was not his either. The insider explains, “TI has security that live with him and stay with him at all times. The guns that the [federal agents] found belonged to his security team … And by the way, [the members of his] security team are licensed to carry firearms.”

Let me first say that I am agaist this “No Snitching” ridiculousness in certain situations but what that bodyguard did was wrong. In his defense though, I bet those detectives and investigators used all kinda tactics and threats against him that forced him to do that to Tip. These feds are RUTHLESS!

I would snitch in a hurry against someone I didn’t know or who hasn’t done anything for me, but I can honestly and truly say that I would take the fall for a friend, family, or someone that’s helped me out. I would plead the 5th on them for real. The time or punishment the bodyguard would have gotten would be waaay less than what TI might get. They might even just gave that bodyguard probation or something.

The body guard is trifling by setting him up like that, he could have not went along with it because the crime was committed when the exchange was completed, so he could have said that TI changed his mind or something to get out of it. T.I.’s girlfriend, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, who was also arrested with the Atlanta bred rapper on Saturday (October 13), has reportedly been hit with drug possession charges.

As reported earlier, T.I. was arrested at a shopping center parking lot in midtown Atlanta yesterday while trying to purchase a machine gun and two silencers from his bodyguard.

T.I. was accompanied to the scene by Cottle along with Mac Boney and Young Dro, who are rappers under T.I.’s Grand Hustle label. All four were taken into custody.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Cottle was charged for possession of marijuana and ecstasy. Updated October 15 (2:31pm): Cottle was released on $10,000 bail on Sunday (October 14)

Young Dro and Mac Boney were not charged with any crimes and were released.

“We’re going to be all right,” Young Dro told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “It’s just a mistake. Everybody’s entitled to some. We’ll be OK.”

Dwight Thomas, T.I’.s lawyer, revealed that a couple of his client’s bodyguards were also taken into custody but were not charged.

T.I. has been charged with two felony gun charges and will appear before a judge at the United States Courthouse in Atlanta today (October 15). Updated October 15 (2:43pm): T.I. will appear in court at 3pm.

“We’ll go in [today], request bail on his behalf and vigorously defend him,” Thomas said.

Thomas said he spoke to T.I. in jail and the rapper is in a positive emotional state.

“I can tell you he’s in good spirits,” Thomas said. “He’s confident the legal system will work in his favor.”

How did T.I. get caught up in this ugly situation?

T.I.’s bodyguard, who had been working for the rapper since July, was reportedly busted on Wednesday (October 10) for trying to purchase the aforementioned guns from an undercover ATF agent.

While in custody, the bodyguard agreed to co-operate with the authorities and revealed that he was buying the guns for T.I. and he had also bought other guns for the rapper in the past. He also told the police about other guns in T.I.’s bedroom closet at his Atlanta home

The authorities would then record the bodyguard holding a series of conversations with T.I. about buying the guns. The bodyguard then arranged the meeting at the parking lot for T.I. to pick up the guns.

The arresting officers would find three other guns in the car that T.I. drove to the parking lot.

A search of T.I.’s home shortly after the arrest would produce six guns which were discovered in his bedroom closet.

The rapper is a convicted felon on seven year probation thanks to drug and illegal firearm possession charges he picked in the late 90’s. Felons are not allowed to own guns.

Vanessa McLemore, an ATF special agent, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in statement Saturday that T.I. is facing a “potentially long prison sentence”.

A source close to T.I. revealed yesterday(October 14) that the rapper was set up and the guns found in his home belonged to the security team that lives with him.

Thomas confirmed the source’s claims when he spoke to The New York Daily News saying other people live with rapper in his Atlanta home.

Producer DJ Toomp, who helped T.I. craft some of his biggest hits including “What You Know” and “ U Don’t Know Me”, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he tried to warn the rapper about hanging with the wrong crowd.

“I was in his ear all the time,” Toomp said.

T.I.’s family members have refused to comment on the arrest.

As a recovering gangster I know beyond a reasonable doubt that my life is always being viewed. The justice system as we can see is blowing this out of proportion. Right away they would like to make it known that a hip hop artist who is greatly looked upon from many people throughout the world is doing something wrong but do we ever see a “just because” issue in the media that these artists are encouraging young people or any positive subjects on them? No! So this must be what the US courts want our young people to see…more into the the actual case tho it is ridiculous obviously Mr.Harris doesnt want these firearms for dangerous purposes he is not harming anyone with them, he simply has them for security personal safety issues, and as a person living in the world today who doesnt need more protection and especially being in the industry he is in. It is a legal right to bear firearms and because hes had run ins with the law before now he has no right to protect himself or his family? The justice system can send our soldiers into war for no good reason where they die and get forgiven for it but they cant forgive an American man for trying to protect his own, theyd rather try to demolish his career. Even more looking into this case it appears to be a huge set up from Mr. Bodyguard whos not to say Mr.Bodyguard didnt set Mr.Harris (TI) up first going into the gun store asking about illegal weapons then possible encouraging TI and even to do the purchase in the first place. In the end if we want to be technical it was not TI who purchased the weapons it was Mr.Bodyguard therefore Mr.Harris (TI) should not be responsible for the main violation it would be Mr.Bodyguard.

The thing is this….. A lot of theses rappers are street criminals with criminal records to prove it. They get on record and tell us they have sold drugs, still got drugs, got 38 Keys at they cousins house in-case rappin’ don’t work. They tell the youth to “stop snitchin’”, yet they record and sale all the code words, hot spots and big names in the streets. (Who’s the snitch). The coldest part about it all is rap music is a blessing. A lot of young black men have been given a great opportunity through this music, but the criminal element has also taken advantage of this opportunity and just like anything else good that happens to/for hardworking honest people their is always going to be some selfish niggahs somewhere to fuck it up for everybody else who plans on doing the right thing. Now of course you will get the freedom of speech argument from certain individuals who feel that nothing will ever happen to rap music, but you have to remember where we are (AMERICA) and any time WHITE folks decide to say no more rap believe you me their will be no more because black folks don’t own the FCC, the big record companies, hell we don’t even own BET anymore.
