The always sophisticated Denzel Washington covers the November issue of Men’s Vogue Magazine. The mag talks with the Oscar winning actor about the diverse roles that he has played and where he is now in his career with his new movie ‘American Gangster’ hitting theaters on November 2nd.

#10 Denzel has stated multiple times that he won because he was OVERDUE. When AL Pacino won for Scent of a Woman instead of Denzel for Malcolm X he won because he was OVERDUE.
Besides Kathy Bates ( a White Woman) WON for playing a Crazy lady in Misery. If you gave a good performance you should be honored regardless of what type of role you play. I’m glad Denzel can change it up and stop playing cop roles all the time or the hero.
Be sure to see his next movie the Great Debaters coming this Christmas. He direct and stars in it.
I agree with #13 A lot of people win for playing the bad person, shit that’s the best part to have IMO. Denzel has said his character in Training day was one of the Funnest character ‘s to play.
People often get Oscars because they were Overdues, Morgan Freeman, Denzel , Martin Scorsese and Al Pacino are prime examples.
Scent of a woman wasn’t Al’s Best Performance, but he won over Denzel because he Never won before.
Training Day IMO isn’t Denzel’s Best Performance he won because he was Overdue for a Lead Actor Award.
The Departed wasn’t Marty’s best picture he won cuz he had nver won before.
Morgan Freeman won for Million Dollar Baby, even though it is similar to a lot o f roles Morgan has played he won because he had never won before.
THis is Common Knowledge.
OMG..Denzel=fine wine! Those that don’t really see him as physically fine…his beauty comes from within and radiates. I love him to death…women been hatin Pauletta for years! LOL I don’t think his sons could ever be as fine as he is…yum yum…

Why do people still say they are angry because Denzel won the Best Actor Oscar for playing a bad guy????? He stretched to play that role. That is the point.
BESIDES, that was NOT his first Oscar. He WON Best Supporting Actor for the film “Glory” in 1989….
So….technically he WASN’T overdue. He already had a piece of Oscar gold. “His role in Training Day” is arguably the best performance of his career because it was such a stark contrast to the real Denzel.

Denzel just gets better with age. I love the fact that he doesn’t shy away from unconventional roles. I am definitely going to see the movie opening weekend. May I also add, that Denzel looks mighty fine on these pictures. I would leave Santa a gallon of milk and a dozen of cookies if he left me someone like this under my Christmas tree (lol)

The only reason why there would be a big hole left in black hollywood is becuase white hollywood and black folks whos opinions are easily influenced act as if he he’s the only black actor in hollywood. Not to take away from denzel becuase hes talented and deserves every acolade he gets its just that I think thats just a cop out so they don’t have to differentiate and go down the line giving any other black actors there due. Its like give Denzel the oscar even though he’s done countless other films that warrented an oscar, give him one for his mediocre role as a crooked cop in a mediocre film to shut people up then we won’t have to do it again anytime soon.
When ever the entertainment industry talks about the most talented the most handsome the most anything having to do with black in showbusiness. Its always denzel despite the fact that hes in his 50′s and been around for a long time. You mean to tell me theres been no other black actors besides denzel washington in the past 20 years that fits into any of those categorys, please.

The ACTORS vote on the Acting awards for the Oscars. So I’m pretty sure they know more about a mediocre performance than you do. THat was almost 7 years ago GET OVER IT.

Do your thang DENZEL! Call him what you like but an extraordinary actor is what he is! He deserved an Oscar based upon all of his work. I’ve yet to see a movie he put out that was not an all around good movie. He always plays such believable roles. I remember seeing him in Solider Story/St. Elsewhere for the first time, and I’ve loved his acting since then. He’s like wine he gets better with time (IMO).

100 % Terrence Howard and Morgan Freeman has about 5 movies each out this year. It’s not Denzel’s Fault that CL doesn’t showcase them and Forest Whitaker has about 5 coming out next year. So to say that Hollywood only goes to Denzel Washington is IGNORANT and STUPID and NOT TRUE.
