^^ Now you say that, but in another post you state that “people think Halle Berry is a Joke”. lol! Isn’t that a little hypocritical? And who thinks she’s a joke? You? She seems pretty serious to me. Obviously the Academy doesn’t think she’s a joke because she has that Oscar on her mantel. And before you come at me with “she only got that Oscar because she took her clothes off” or “Monstars Ball wasn’t good” (because those are black people’s top excuses). She got that Oscar because she is just as good as everybody else. I think some (not all) black women on these sites have a prejudice against her because of her physical apperence. I hate to be that shallow but it’s true. Some of you will be quicker to give props or support a lesser actress (when it comes to skills) because they are less intemidating and people can relate. People are quicker to support Sanaa Lathen, Nia Long or Gabrielle Union (although their acting is limited) because people can relate to them more, if you don’t know someone that looks like them, then YOU look like them. I like all those women and try to support them all.
People give props to Denzel for branching out and trying something new, but whenever Halle does it, it’s a problem. I feel like she has worked just as hard to get to where she is and shouldn’t be punished for her accomplishments. Denzel said that’s his favorite actress, I doubt he’s one of those people that you claim thinks “she’s a joke”. Halle is one of the most respected actresses in Hollywood, one of the most decorated (she has the Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG and anyother award you can think of), yet did you know that Halle is one of the main one’s that get’s hated on in that industry by some of the BLACK people in that business (CL did a blind item on it)? Yet i’ve never heard of her uddering a word that wasn’t positive about black women in that business or a black woman period? I mean I don’t think anyone ever thinks of that. She’s one of the highest paid actresses because she deserves to be and if anyone of those women had a chance they wouldn’t hesitate to switch places. She also has Oscar buzz for this latest film (which she was great in). If she were to get nominated again, I wonder what excuse people will come up with then to say she doesn’t deserve it? I mean it’s rediculous, I feel like she’s representing well. Do I wish that Hollywood would have more then just one black actress at the top? Yes. But I think that some of you forget that the problem lies with Hollywood and not Halle Berry.
I’m saying all this to make a point, black people are always talking about suppot each other and not tear others down, but some of you stay on this site tearing that woman down. Talking about her being bi-racial (as if thats a crime) or her personnal life. I mean it gets old reading it after a while because it’s so redundant. Some of you hate the fact that she’s been at the top for so long. Like Denzel, she’s not going anywhere, if those other women want to get on her level then they need to stop complaining and fight like she does. Like someone said before when the majority of roles are written, they are written for white woman, that role she just had was supposed to be for a white woman, yet she fought and got it. So maybe she doesn’t have it as easy as people think. I think people get a little blinded by how pretty she is and forget the fact that she can act with the best of them. Angela Bassett is the Queen when it comes to black actresses acting skills, but Halle is not to far behind. I’m sorry I have to be fair, everyother day we see a picture of a black actress out partying. I like Gabriel Union, but she stays partying and I think to myself “damn Gabby do you work”? lol! I mean all that is cool and all, but don’t complain when the roles aren’t there. When they were coming up, how many pics did you see of Denzel or Halle or Angela Bassett partying? There weren’t many. Why? Because they were out grinding to get to where they are today. That’s the point. Whoever is complaining needs to get off their behinds and get on their grind and make a way like all the other actors had to. I think it is very unfair to see some black people deminish Halle’s acting ability just because they are mad that Hollywood is paying her crazy amounts of money to do what she does. She’s at the top of the list for them, i’m not mad at that. I don’t think we will see many actresses (of all races) doing what Halle has done. And more then likely won’t see another black woman pulling in the money she does sad but true, the woman pulls in like $15 million a picture. That is a big paycheck for anyone in that business I don’t care what color they are. So I say cheers to her I hope she continues to make a way. Like I said, people are so quick to say “lets support eachother” but bash someone in the next sentence, once a black woman reaches the top people turn on them (calling them sellouts and what not) they stop wanting to support them then complain about how Hollywood doesn’t give black women a chance, give me a break. smh
^^ P.S Halle’s film didn’t do well this weekend but Reese Witherspoons movie didn’t do well this weekend either, so leading ladies of ALL colors are having a hard time right now when it comes to box office, it’s not just black actresses.
Ain’t no man gonna read this issue. This is for us and us only. Denzel should be what every black man wants to be (doesn’t matter whether you rap, dance, work for McDonald’s). He projects a rawness of strength, beauty and confidence. Luv him and can’t wait to see the movie…right after my booboo Jigsaw.
