why is it when people with celebrity status make it out of the so called “Hood” and don’t look back at the community that has made them who they are, or called sell outs and they have forgotten were they came from. Then you have celebrities such as Steve Harvey that try and give back to the community which is better known as the “Hood” and salute those business that would have not been saluted at any other awards show which would not only give them better notoriety but also more business generated their way, we have such a negative response? To me it seems like whatever road you try to take people have something negative to say… Should they have called it the ghetto awards which truth be told that’s what upscale America would call the “Hood”, it’s like we can call it the hood but don’t broadcast it to the world..come on people some of the most respected and wealthiest people generated from the so called ghetto. When the BET awards started it was frowned upon and it has really grown into something big with sponsors from all over. I think we can be our worst enemy at times because these people are being recognized and as well as they should be because we grew up on their services (food/car wash/ Beauty shops etc..) and some people travel far and wide from all over to visit them. So I think we should support them especially when no one else would… And thanks to concreteloop for bringing us this event, we would have never seen it on entertainment tonight oh I guess we would have respected it more umhhhh. Just something to think about and that the have people like Tashina, Monique, Tank, Mosique etc to support it as well.

Glad you brought that up, CL. Steve Harvey, even in his celeb status, was a local DJ on our local radio station in LA. He started the Hoodie Awards locally as a tribute to some of the unsung heroes of the said categories. It was always great to hear.

I must admit, on one hand, I am glad the hoodie awards has been expanded to include national unsung local heroes, so to speak, but it’s a little bittersweet losing the local touch, of having the awards done locally. But in order to grow, you must grow. I love them.

40 is looking greaet on celebrities these days and to that end Salli looks beautiful!! A little on the thin side, but she is still pretty. LMAO at #22 “Dawn’s Bank Account….”

Steve’s idea for recognizing businesses and organizations from the community is a very good idea. They recognize people and organizations that probably would not otherwise be recognized and that’s great — it’s time though, to step it up a bit.

Most of these guests look like they gave no thought to their outfits, and if they did, that’s even worse.

The picture with Steve’s son looks a little awkward, almost like he wasn’t supposed to be in the picture. That’s not a good look. I know Steve loves him to death, but when you remarry, you need to be more mindful of even small issues and how it impacts children.

I sense some hate. You act like u know Steve’s wife personally and have something against her. But I’m afraid that some of ur info is wrong. She is Steve’s third wife. His second wife Mary asked for a divorce not Steve. She also gave him custody of their son and later tried to take him back. Perhaps when she found out Steve was dating his current wife. But anyway she asked out and gave up. Perhaps u need to get that straight before you start hating. Sounds like some personal issues to me. This is not ur situation. It’s Steve’s with different issues. Just cause someone left u doesn’t mean that the same thing will or has happened to everyone else. Just by the fact that she asked Steve for a divorce and gave him custody seems to me like she had issues.

I think the hoodie’s is a very good idea. Sometimes we are so busy hating that we forget to stop and say thank you to the people who go out of their way to make our lives more comfortable.

67, 68 and 70 said it all. I was there and it was on and happening. I was very proud of Steve and he was overcome with emotion at the end of the show. It’s my understanding that the awards show will be broadcast on BET later this month. Keep up the good work Steve. We love you!!
