@ # 70 - It’s not even about black people defending him simply because he is black. What we are defending is our right to not be judged by the color of our skin. Cuz guess what, if it happens to Mychal Bell, it can happen to anybody. Blacks often receive more harsh penalties for crimes of “less or equal value” to those crimes committed by non-whites.

10 months of time served in an adult prison facility is more than “just punishment” for Mychal Bell’s probation violation, don’t you think. Especially in light of the the fact that one of the white guys who did pretty much the same thing to Robert Bailey that Mychal Bell and the others did to Justin Barker only got probation and no jail time.

You don’t get damn near two years in jail for violating probation for what adds up to at the most a few misdemeanors. I’ve known of people to violate probation on a felondy drug conviction by selling more drugs, and get no time, just an extension on their probation.

I’ll give to all y’all - Mychal Bell might be a bad ass, and that needs to be dealt with - in my opinion it has been dealt with - if 10 months in an adult correction facility dealing with only God knows what didn’t scare him straight, he’s a lost cause, and he’ll end up dead or in jail anyway. But give him a chance to eff up again - the Louisiana Jim Crow justice system is trying to make a statement on the back of Mychal Bell. How can anyone, black or white, think that’s okay?

Mychel Bell is being unfairly prosecuted by racist in the jena Judicial system, because of what happened to the white boy in the fight. It was a school fight. I have read almost all of these post and I agree with some that support him and some that don’t, Yes this boy has had priors, but come on now, he has served almost a year in Prison, this boy isn’t even 18 , no one is saying that this boy shouldn’t have been punished, yes it was wrong, they shouldn’t have jumped that boy and yes it was wrong that he knew he was on probation and still did wrong, but come on now, he is about to spend a total of 28months on some bull, I live in Sacramento,Ca and have seen people get off on things that were way worse then what this boy has done, we hear about Brittney Spears and Lindsey Lohan and Paris Hilton everyday about the crimes they committed but we rarely hear about the time they spend in jail, and the time they do spend in their, their watching tv and having there hair and nails done, wtf is that about, this world is coming to and end, and as for black people, the system is made for us weather ur a man or an woman, so stay out of trouble, him knowing he was on probation and still joined in on the fight wasn’t a very good decision it wasn’t a good decision at all, but in the spur of the moment, I’m sure almost 8/10 people would have done the same thing, race is an issue that has been in this country for years and to have all that go on in jena and to have to live there, I probably would have committed the same crime, knowing that I would have to face the consequences, and serving almost a yr in Prison, just sounds insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, he was in trouble once before, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that he’s being punished because of a crime he committed before in childhood.
