LALA BROWN & BOYFRIEND FOUND MURDERED

October 21st, 2007
( Photos from: Lala’s myspace & todaystmj4.com )

Yolanda ‘Lala’ Brown, 21, best known for singing with Lyfe Jennings on the song, “S.E.X” was found murdered alongside her boyfriend in Milwalkee on Friday. I got a lot of emails about this yesterday but finally found a valid link.

A familiar voice to Milwaukee R & B fans has been silenced. Twenty-one year old Yolanda “La La” Brown and her producer, 22-year-old JeTannue Clayborn, were found dead in their recording studio Friday night.

Milwaukee police say both were found in the Loud Enuff Productionz studio at 55th and Lisbon. Both had gunshot wounds and had been dead at least a day before being discovered. They were reportedly dating.

JeTannue’s mother, Dina Chambers, describes him as energetic, with an eye toward making music his career. “He loved music. He loved people. He was very kind. They called him “Koo Laid” because every time you saw him, he was smiling.” [SOURCE]

According to one CL reader she was survived by a daughter. Horrible news. For the Lyfe Jennings video, please check after the jump.

A MESSAGE FROM LALA’S UNCLE ROBERT

This is La La’s uncle. On behalf of the family we thank you for your support. Although we are sad that she is not with us we will celebrate her life. She has touched the world with her God given talent.

Please, stop the killing. Stop it now. Money, hate, there are no reasons to take another life. Hug your child and tell them it’s not ok to kill. We will raise her daughter and celebrate La La’s life. -Robert

Thank You Uncle Robert for reaching out to us and letting us know that your family will be okay. And as you see we are all saddened by what happened to Lala and her friend and even though she isn’t here in the flesh anymore she left a legacy behind which is her daughter and when her daughter gets older and understands the song that her Mommy made that will teach her to respect herself and her body and all other young girls in the world will learn from the song too. Keep Your Head Up Fams and just know that WE on concreteloop are praying for both of the families affected by this tragedy. GOD BLESS YOU AND EVERYBODY THAT IS GOING THROUGH HARDTIMES. And R.I.P. TO ALL THAT WE LOST. LOVE.

This is so disturbing to hear about. I am a young african american woman who lives in Milwaukee, and Ms. Brown was one of two women murdered over the last several days. Milwaukee is an extremely segregated city where black folks shoot and kill each other almost every night. The black on black crime rate here is unbelieveable. There is also virtually no black middle class…just poor people preying on other poor people who don’t have much. Ms. Brown was actually one of the few success stories that had come out of this community. My prayers are with her family. She didn’t deserve to die the way she did. I agree with Bill Cosby…I love my people, but a lot of times, we are our own worst enemy.

My heart goes out to the family. This is why we should lift each other up instead of insulting each other daily. We make it a lifestyle to hate on people we dont even know personaly, and about the smallest things such, as what someone is wearing, how they’re wearing their hair, who’s gained weight, who sings better, etc, not thinking that these types of incidents stem from this kind of jealousy and hatred. Its only when someone ends up dead that we start trying to come together and talk about how wonderful that person was, or how pretty they were, when in fact if she were still here, people would be critisizing her for things that i mentioned above. It’s pretty sad how we dont stick together, then wonder why things like this happen. Sad..

I HATE hearing news like this. Regardless of whether she was pretty or not, this was a talented individual who some jealous asshole took from this world. You never know what she could have brought to the world, what impact she could have made with her talents, and know she is gone, just like that. It’s beyond sad and horrible to me, and it just shows how much people hate each other when they see someone happy with life and living it to the fullest. This is gonna sound strange but…I like people, but sometimes I hate them. When they do things like that.

Wow! What a nice voice. She is definatly gifted. I hope Clive appreciates her talent. Alicia is talented and soulful, but this girl’s voice takes you back. There is something very real and genuine about her voice. She sort of reminds me of Lala Hathaway. Her voice is like Soul Food. It makes you feel worm and cozy, like going back home. I’d definately like to hear more from her.
I enjoyed listening to that. Thanks

This is so tragic – prayers for her and the young man’s family and loved ones to have the strength and love they need to get through this. Though her life was brief at least her legacy of music leaves and positive message — unlike some of this garbage out there.

Prayers for the other families of shootings in that community – according to that website there were 7 shootings on Thursday night alone, one a 13 year old girl, now fighting for her life.

Ok, you need to learn what respect is for bringing my mother into this. Look, maybe it’s wrong timing, but a persons a person, shouldn’t matter if they are rich or poor, “beautiful” or “unnatractive” they still deserve love and respect if they pass away. If you think that statement is “disrespectful” than that’s your views and I’m ok with it. I’m not gonna get all upset over the internet, it’s definately not worth it.

@72, as humans, we’re attracted to beauty from a very young age..it’s actually not beauty, but it’s characteristics that make you want to keep your attention… Usually that does mean beauty, but it can be eyebrows, nose, head shape…a number of things…it’s just part of our nature.

Seriously people we have got to stop all this killing. I dont care who you are or where your from or what someone did to you…you will never have the right to take someone elses life away. And i hope who ever did has to live with the guilt forever. LIke LaLa’s uncle said we need to uplift our children and teach them that violence is not the answer and it never will be. No matter what race or age you are this is a lesson that everyone needs to learn.

This troubles me greatly! So young, such a beautiful girl, gone just like that. It really hurts to see young people getting murdered and the fact that she has a daughter that will never get the chance to know who her mom is , is just gut wrenching. Everylittle girl needs her Mother. This just makes my head spin. What gives ANYONE the right to take someones life! This MUST STOP! I can’t take this anymore. Too many of us are dying and as a black women this just hurts me to the core. Even though I do not personally know people who have been murdered, it does not matter becaue we are black we ARE ONE! and when I hear of OUR and I emphazie our it really doee affect my soul. PLEASE…PLEASE…PLEASE STOP the killings.

This is a horrible end to two beautiful futures…For someone to take the lives of two people or anyones life for that matter is a tragic within itself..I refuse to believe that people are so heartless.. But yet EVERYDAY I’m proved wrong.. To kill your own people…To look a person in the eyes with the intentions of harming them I will never understand..How wrong has that person done you or what is it that the person did not do to you…Or for you…What is it that they would not give you that would make you take a life…How dare anyone who does not create beauty Destroy it..We need to get it together period..Not a Black thing or a white thing or a racial thing…People of every color and every race is dying..YOUNG and the main reason…NO REASON AT ALL.. have always read concrete loop and never posted and felt the need too…I Can only pray that LaLa and JeTannue Rest In Peace..god Bless the families as they struggle through the lost of their loved ones…

this is a very sad & tragic story, what’s the most upsetting is that she was killed not by an accident like Aaliyah & Left Eye, but by someone else taking her life by choice, it was murder. So sad that something like this would happen, It hurts to hear that such a incident would happen but things like that just happen in life. Karma will come around someday for the killers. My love goes out to her family & espacially her daughter, I feel so bad for her.

I am from Milwaukee and I personally knew La La we were actually working on a song I wrote for her called ‘So Serious’. I spoke with her Wednesday about hooking up, but I never heard anything else from her. It’s still unbelievable to me because she was actually living in ATL, but came up here to holla at her peoples’ and whatever. This is very unfortunate. She has a beautiful 4yr old daughter and was really getting ready to do her thang musically. Coming out of Milwaukee – we all were happy for her. God wanted to take her home so that’s what happened. My thoughts and prayers goes out to her daughter Amirrah, her mother, father, family and countless friends….
We need to stop killing eachother – its ridiculous…
