“We support everything our artists do, everything!” he added. “We stand firmly behind and beside our artists with pride and with pleasure. Anything Nas wants to do, I completely stand beside him. CBS AFFILIATE APOLOGIZES TO JANET JACKSON & TYLER PERRY

sorryjanetty.jpg

CBS affiliate CW31 finally issued an on-air apology in response to the avalanche of email complaints and phone calls logged by station management. To be specific, CW31 anchor Mark S. Allen apologized for his use of shock jock-like antics when he interviewed Janet Jackson and Tyler Perry recently. During the interview, Allen brought up Jackson’s infamous Super Bowl “wardrobe malfunction” and then insulted her while Perry interjected on her behalf.

Fans of Jackson and Perry were offended and made their anger felt by both Allen and CBS. Allen made a smug on-air apology today referring to himself as an “absolute jerk.” [Thanx Andre]

  1. I Support him & I thought Al is supporting him?

  2. brownin

Yeah that Janet interview was wack…Janet’s good cuz had that of been me, the ignorance would have come out….they should have repremanded him, because that ish was sooo unnecessary and unprofessional. SECONDDDDDDD!!

  3. About time CBS said they were sorry tryin to put Janet on blast

  4. Mark

good, this ashole only appoligized cuz he saw that the fans were gettin in his ass. He wasn’t really sorry. anyway the people have spoken and the movie is #1 congrats to janet, tylar jill and the rest of the cast

  5. prettynikki19

wow…there was so many emails that it shut the system down and nobody at the station could send and receive emails. more than 19,000 sent to Mark and a lot more sent to the general manager…

  6. Lmao that fool had to eat crow…that’s what he gets….he should have gotten on his knees…pissy ass man! I really didn’t appreciate his ignorance, and lack of recpect for Janet and Tyler. I am so happy people got together and called him on his bull bunk…thia is what happens when we support each other in the right!

P.S. I need to go see Why Did I Get Married…I heard it was mad good!

  7. Nas is a f*cking ninth grade dropout what’s makes him a damn prophet.????
Al Sharpton is right we are the only race of people who sh!t on themselves.!!!

  8. Aaron

Im so sick of the BS they throwing our way when are we going to wake up shit I dont kow what to say Im for Nas but at the same time I agree with Al shit we cant win, If we take time outto explain our self someone is going to get left out and if we dont then we will get looked at as stupid its hard being us (and what I mean by US basically we all are different and yet give the same right but not looked or treated the same) Im not going to put blame but you know what I mean by that

  9. Siobhan

I really don’t care what Nas names his album. I just don’t wanna hear SHIT from anyone complaining about white people using the word. If an artist is going to put the word in his music and title his album with the word, there can be NO double standard here. Nas has white fans who will repeat the lyrics and will go into a store asking for N***er.

  10. Aaron

And for African American to sit and fight for the rights to have a equal life its like we wont the freedom to be taken away I dont get it this is this a marketing scam or do Nas really have something in store for us by using this name and is it something to better soicety or fuck it up more… I dont understand im lost like Brittany Spears another act gone wrong

  11. LA Reid sounds like an idiot, “we support anything our artist’s do” – it sounds like he hasn’t even heard what the controversy is about and is blindly supporting whatever stupid ish Nas decides to do! Besides, his first statement said “that wouldn’t look good in Walmart” thus him disagreeing with Nas if I’m not mistaken?

  12. Natasha

I’m so proud of Janet for not stooping to that mans level. I love how Tyler block his antics too. They may try to brake us down but we aint falling. 21.5 milion in ticket sales!!!!!

  13. I really didn’t expect Def Jam to back Nas album title. I still don’t think it’s going to happen but we’ll see!

Mark S. Allen: That’s right boooooooooooooooooy. You better apologize before we go Imus on that ass and asked that you be fired. Off with his head!!!

  14. About Janet

Nobody asked Justin about what he did, I believe Janet when she said it was not planned.Justin did that ish to embarass the Jackson family, he claims he is the new king of Pop, he did it on purpose, I don’t care what anyone says and someone in his camp put him up to it.
Justin is Florida poor white trash who has arrived and he is a red – neck. I don’t buy his music so I can talk. I know I sent 7 e-mails myself and props to Tyler P for having her back.
    Thanks Loop for posting this.
Hey Justin you will never be Jacko, and you all can say what you want about Micheal his videos were all ways entetaining and never laced with sex anyone could watch them and be entertainied as well as his songs.

  15. ja

damn yall its a word. Words only have the power that people give them. Kanya West said nigga, bitch and hoe so much on his last cd that should have been the name. At least he is rapping about something good and not just how much money he got or how many low self esteem women want him. LA Reid know the deal. And I dont want to hear that boycott shit from Al and his gang. This young brother has been trying to change the game, but I guess that he aint got enough bling for Al.

  16. baybegyrl

yeah i wrote in as well because i live in Sacramento,
CA and i would always like to watch the show because of Mark. but i had a few damn works for him f***k wit my Miss. Jackson!!!!

  17. kmniles

Of course L.A. will stand behing this mess. It makes good “business sense” to have all this hype over Nas. He better be careful, cause when S.I.B.A. (smart intelligent black americans) start boycotting and petitioning it wouldn’t surprise me if they cave in under pressure.

As for dude apologizing to Janet, he shold have done it while she was on camera broadcasting to millions of viewrs. That would’ve been acceptable.

  18. johnosahon

yes that mark fool kissed jj’s ass to the extreme. stll a dumb FOOL though, but i got what i wanted.

to NAS, that fool better not call his album the “n-word”, better think of some other way to SELL RECORDS.

  19. ja

    @ kmniles

Am I to believe that its ok to say it in your raps but not to put on the cd. I know its like a surprise

  20. Of course LA is going to stand behind Nas, it’s GREAT publicity. *rolling eyes*
Nas is corny now, I wish he would go away.

  21. kiwi2g4

#9 I second that to the “TEE” ….couldnt have said it better myself

“damn yall its a word” …. so what u are sayin the whole civil rights movement was invein…thats the exact thinking that keeps us bond…I mean we have people trying to make moves in todays society, to try and erase raceism. My question to you is do you disagree with the young men of the Jena Six…should they have just let it go because its “a word”, its just “a noose”… You are right its technically** just a word, but in this case Its what it reperesents.

I am by no means trying to change your way of thinking, but I am expressing my opinion.

  22. LondonEye

Getting the apology from the ‘CBS guy’ just goes to show what can be done when people stand up and take action!!!

    POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

  23. LondonEye

    ..Today : CBS.
    Tomorrow: Jena 6,
    Next day: The World!

  24. Nas : The same people who think the N word is just a word are offended when non-blacks call them that, it never fails. I couldn’t care less about the “intellectual” explaination of the album title, Nas is an international star, he has all races listening to and buying his music, stop the madness cause people won’t understand, they will just remember the word and sing the song along with you. ONLY BLACK PEOPLE do this only blacks try to make a racial slur positive. Even if this time it is not positive, this is really not the time to do this (there’s no right time for this anyway), people are saturated with this word, it’s in 80% of the music of the mainstream black artists. We know how damaging it is. Do you hear CRACKA in white people’s music? Do you hear SPIC in hispanics music? Do they intellectually try to “break down for you” the meanings of those words or whatever? We wanna get rid of negativity but we keep FEEDING people with the very poison we’re trying to get rid of, again, we cannot have credibility until we show people how to treat us.

Tyler/Janet : This is how powerful we are. When you lift your voice they have NO CHOICE but to listen and apologize. We did a great job!

  25. RC

What the hell is Al Sharpton doing at the American Gangster premiere!? If anything he should be boycotting that movie. You can’t tell me that they haven’t marketed this movie to make Frank Lucas the black Tony Montana/ Soprano or the next glorified face of organized crime.

And I also agree with Method Man, if anything Al Sharpton’s @ss should be in Darfur! They are things WAY MORE IMPORTANT THAN A WORD.

And another thing, n****r is still the most taboo word in the dictionary-even with its mainstream use. You have to be utterly naive to believe that white people use the word with no forethought of its implications. GET REAL. Any white person that uses that word does it because either they’re racists or simply say it because they know they’re not supposed too. ( You know, the childlike behavior when you do something that your mother told you not to do) Take comedian SARAH SILVERMAN for instance, she has used the N-word in her routine. I don’t believe she’s racists but she did do it for shock value-to be edgy. I still can’t believe how much that went unnoticed and I certainly can’t believe that we are BLAMING OURSELVES FOR WHAT COMES OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF RACIST, IGNORANT WHITE PEOPLE. That is the number one thing I take issue with. And don’t tell me its hypocritical because for 20 years white people knew better than to say ish like that on t.v. or in public. I can still say the n-word and expect white people to know that only one rule concerning the word applies to them: DON”T SAY IT. The answer is not modifying our language, but making it clear that we do not tolerate this word from people who are not black. Now that Don Imus has put the focus on hip hop he’s back on the air spreading the same hate he has for years.

As for the apology, that anchor did not mean it. He made sure to mention that “Janet and Tyler’s FANS have spoken”. Even in that, he diminishes public disapproval to stan-ish outrage.

These post have been stressful. lol. I’m taking a break from the loop.

  26. johnosahon

    to 26. RC

    ###############################################################

why shouldn’t white say the “n-word” if it is just a word. unless there is a law passed that nas cd is being sold to blacks ONLY,don’t get offended when a white kid or man sks a store sales person if the album NI**ER by nas is available.

so funny you can’t even post the word on a black blog but it is ok to parade it on cd selves around the world. do you guys realise this is going to be sold around the world, NI**ER with a black man face on the cd cover. maybe nas should wear a NOOSE too, to complete his FOOLISHNESS.

  27. Nas is a Asshole

Nas should name is next album “NAS is a Asshole”

What the hell is wrong with Nas.
    L.A Reid is a Jerk

  28. Nas is a fool. Just when I thought he was someone who could rise above the BS that rappers are now doing, he goes and does this, which is obviously for publicity and an attempt to get the shine he was getting before he got wack around ’03. If he wants to name his album thusly, I’m never, ever again going to get angry when white people use the word.

As for Mark S. Allen, I wrote in the second I saw the broadcast on TV. My mom woke me up because she knew Janet was being set up by CW 31.

  29. MEL

For all you ignorant people that say it’s just a word, let a white person put a noose around one your necks or one of your kids necks & then say something like, I’ts only a noose. Nas is a poor man’s Jay Z. His last album didn’t sell, he only had one video out & now he’s trying to do something to get some album sales. Him and Kelis will do anything to shock people — how desperate. What will Nas do when frat boys or ignorant people go into stores asking for that nigga album & look at somebody the wrong way & then violence starts & people get shot and killed. Nas is wrong for that and just like Lauren Hill said, You might win some but you just lost one… Karma, Karma karma will come back to you son

  30. Why can’t we replace the “N” word w/ the word Brother? Maybe if we started reffering to each other as brothers and sisters we’ll start treating each other that way. I’ll never understand why black people use the freedoms previous generations died for to fight for our right to degrade ourselves.

I agree with Rev. Al. These rappers are punks, they don’t speak negativly about white people because they’ll loose their core audience. They talk about us as much as they want because they know we will roll over in take it because they get a “black pass”.

Nas needs a gimmic to sell records and L.A. Reid has dollar signs written in his eyes. I would love to ask Mr. Reid if Def Jam would feel comfortable putting out an album called Spics?

  31. annaya-michelle

Jus askin, wut iz mr shaprtons views on Darfur n when wus da last time he talk about it, jus wanna know

  32. If Nas dumbass name this CD N*ggger then Imus was right when he said ” they call themselves these words, why can’t we”.
People it ain’t “just a word.” It’s about respecting yourself and getting respect as a race of people. NOBODY respect us……….they might fear us, might want to imitate us. But they don’t respect us. Hell, we don’t even respect ourselves.

  33. Tia-Bia

Nas has always addresse race and social issues in his music similar Mos Def and Dead Prez. He has spoken on the assinations of black leaders from Martin to Lumumba by the CIA and other forces in his music. I’m sure he’s far more intelligent and well read on race issues than most of the people posting on this blog lol. So chill on attacking his intelligence. This is what Hip Hop is supposed to do, be the voice of marginalized and disenfranchised blacks. At least Nas is encouraging discussion, how many rappers ever contribute anything other than something to dance to and a catchy hook? Or a bunch of rhymes about their “work” and phantoms they don’t own lol

@ to the people saying this will invite whites to use the word lol Nearly every black person over the age of 13 that I know has been called a “n&^%er” at some point by a white person lol They invented the word & they will always use it. We can march and demonstrate all day, but they will always view us this way. Listen to Mr. Nigga by Mos Def, he breaks it down perfectly.

As far as the Janet situation, he was dead wrong and should have apologized.

  34. Tia-Bia

    * sorry for the double post. I didn’t think it showed up.

@ 35. It is just a word. What we need to attack is the racist ideology not the word. The thinking behind the word. Attacking the world is like putting a band-aid over a bullet-hole lol It does nothing. That’s why we don’t get anywhere because we don’t really want confront race, we just want it to go away.

Like Meth said we keep focusing on the wrong thing and consequently we keep losing

  35. ja

First off alot of yall seem to be confused about what civil rights was all about. If you think that name calling is the root of racial hate then you might want to go back and read up. I got bigger problems than someone calling me the N-word. But that is besides the point. Let take TI for example. Name a song that he is on that does not have the n-word in it. He not proving a point and I know white folk all over the world buy his CD’s, but I guess since he is surprising them with it its ok. And again I say HANGING A NOOSE IS NOT ILLEGAL. So were are the protest on changing that. Thats the threat to me. People can say what they want but action will get you everytime. Just ask Michael Bell. Let Naz do him. I want all yall to say this when TI come out with his new song. or jay z or kanya west or any other one of the make believe people that yall live to please

  36. annaya-michelle

omg thank UUUuu, like 4 real real tho!

Methodman say: I think it’s too much emphasis on just the word. I know a word worse than “****er’: Darfur. Real talk. I’d like to see Reverend Al take a walk out there. Let’s stop focusing on the wrong sh–.”

  37. charlee

i mean why did he have to APOLOGIZE again?.. shyt we all know Janet Jackson INTENTIONALLY showed off her TITIS on tv…so why da fu*ck can’t he bring it up if he wante to….. give me a fu*king break already!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. veruca salt

19,000+ letters? They probably don’t get 19,000 viewers, LMBAO

  39. Mz Coko

    Just a word..if it helps u sleep at night..ok

The show may not get 19000 viewers but mad peopple saw it online…I did send my e-mail to the general manager..got an e-mail reply and all…

  40. briana ツ

nas is a selfish little something…he’s not trying to save hip hop or revolutionize the game..whatever the hell he called it. he’s just tryna make a quick $ at the expense of his people.
    ______________________________________________________________________
and i still don’t understand people saying that the n-word is just a word.
how can a word that was meant to dehumanize us be “just a word that has no power”
#36, The n-word is one of the manifestations of racist ideology……..if we don’t attack the word itself, how can we attack racism and hate behind the word???

IMO, it’s NOT just a word…our generation just masks the root of the problem by saying that.
    ______________________________________________________________________
    anyway…cbs hires some dumbass anchors

  41. ja

you people and your double standards. When Tyler Perry was makin fun of her in his play yall was laughing yall as off. The FCC fined CBS not Janet or Justin 500,000. Where is CBS going to get that money? Cut backs. Not the head people but little people like myself who do it for the craft and not the money. So no I dont feel sorry for her. Besides they told Janet and Tyler they would ask about it so she could have declined. PS Tyler knew what he was doing. And the way I see it for 500,000 she owe them. It’s TV people and the same freedom of speech allows al sharpton to go on TV act in the same manner as this guy covers everybody. You do something you have to be perpared for the outcome/fallout

  42. I C

what cheap news station is that??? They look like failed actors! LOL

  43. ja

Oh and why is Al Sharpton at a movie permier for a movie uplifting a Drug dealer, or snitch as some of you people say. School is in he need to be somewhere trying to find out why Black Male HBCU enrollment is down, instead of walk his ass down the red carpet. Just a thought he has no job and no formal education, so who is paying for all these trips every damn where and them suits

  44. JWR

    To Ja:
Doesn’t Rev Al get a chance to enjoy himself, maybe he’s friendly with Denzil, does a preacher read the Bible every second of his day? What kind of question or comment is that? We expect so much of our own and judge them so harshly(the white man’s ice is colder mentality), it is not only absurd.it is sad. As for LA Reid,he and Babyface actually went on BET back in the day and said they would rather have light skinned Black women in videos than our darker sisters,so what he says to me doesnt even matter cause he is lost As for Method Man (he of that wacked ignorant show he and Redman had) I bet everything I own Rev Al has done more for Darfur and our people then,he(MM) has.Unfortunately some of you are lost.To fight about one noble cause doesn’t diminish another,(and maybe if we were out helping it wouldn’t fall all on the Sharpton’s Jackson’s etc)you guys would be like the people criticizing,Marcus,Malcolm and Martin ,heck even Jesus in their day, while they are fighting for us,which includes you. I think that we need to have mandatory books, classes and conversation every one us one of Africans living in America should be required to read ,take and learn because some of us really have no clue about the racism, sexism self hate etc, going on in this world.

  45. MW09

The use of the n-word IS NOT OK PEOPLES!!! Nas your a fool for this. There are other ways to get a point across. Study your African-American history in depth and you will see it has a lot more meaning than you think.

As for that Mark guy apologizing, It’s about time a sent a very scathing email. WHAT A LOSER!! This is want happens when we work together!!!!

  46. kmniles

    # 43 JA

How do you know I was laughing my ass off? Were you present when I watched the movie? Just cause there is a movie with a million punch lines doesn’t mean you laugh at all of them.

If a $500,000 fine from three years ago is still hurting your ass today then I suggest you look for a new damn employer. CBS is raking in over a million bucks per 30 second commercial during the superbowl, so just like you find it hard to have sympathy for Janet, I’m finding it hard to see your point when it only cost them 15 seconds of advertizing.

As for what questions were cleared before the interview, I’m 150% sure questions about the superbowl were not ok’d to be discussed. Why would the question even exist for something that happened over 3 years ago? They are there to discuss a movie. Janet’s given tons of interviews on the biggest shows by the biggest names in broadcasting while promoting her last cd and the superbowl didn’t come up. So while you continue to back this dummy ask yourself why he felt the need to go there when news anchors making 100x his salary didn’t? He showed a lack of restraint, lack of professionalism as a journalist and an interviewer, and he could have possibly cost CBS viewers and we both know viewers=$money$. It will be intresting to see if his contract is renewed or if he’ll be “reassigned”, lol.

Name calling may not be the root of racial hatred, but it is the first stone thrown at us when it rears it’s ugly head. The same people and rappers who try to shift the focus off their constant glorification of the n-word will be the same one’s ready to shoot or beat down a white man behind closed doors if it’s used against him.

You claim hanging nooses in a tree isn’t illegal. Ok. So if a white person decided to decorate your door and was caught you’d charge them with a simple act of vandalism instead of a hate crime? Whatever…..

First of all im a huge nas fan,but i can understand the arugment from both sides on using the n-word. Secondly i hope the same people who saying nas is ignorant for calling the album the N-word i hope u dont use it in your daily lives.last somebody mad a comment about nas being a 9th grade drop so hes a idiot. I know college grades and high school drop out and some of those high school dropouts are smatter than the college grades. And if u listen to nas album this guy is very intelligent and book smart. So because he read his books on a tour bus and not a class room hes a idiot. He dropped out of school and persue a craft that he thought was gonna pay him we go to college to get a good paying job and even with that degree we 40k job. Ofcourse al sharpton is not over in dafaur because its not cameras over there. This guy was alive during the civil right era what was he doing back then im sure he thinks hes in the same class with mlk and malcolm x. Also i read a book called “N—er by randell kennedy his a black proffesor @ harvard. It came out about 5yrs ago and was a times best seller there was no uproar about the title back then so why now with nas. So for the people saying nas is ignorant youre. Ignorant for judging something before you listen it like the saying goes “dont judge a book by its cover”.

So it’s an abomination for Janet to show her half covered boob on tv, but it’s ok to use and market racial slurs to the masses. WTF? I guess when he’s doing promotional interviews on CBS morning shows the white news anchors should be able to address him with a “what up my nigga?” without fear of a hefty fine by the FCC? SMH at you JA…..

  52. JUDAH

Black people are so damn stuipid. You haven’t even given the man a chance to justify his reasoning. A bunch of coon house negroes. Yeah, that’s exactly why black people control 0.05% of the American economy but are the biggest consumers, because Nas is naming his album what he is naming it. Damn clowns.

  53. JUDAH

    @KMNILES

That’s what worries you right? “What is the white man (god) going to think”, lol.

  54. @Sleep, I called Nas a ninth grade dropout because he is. And I can’t believe you’re comparing him to Randell Kennedy a Black professor at Harvard.!
    A professor educates……….a Rapper……..Raps.
Nas is not a teacher……..he needs too get his G.E.D.
    Grt some Sleep……..Sleep.

  55. johnosahon

SOME people are really DUMB and STUPID. how the hell is calling yourself a “N*GGA” taking the word back from the WHITE man? he created the word to use on you, now you use on yourself, you didn’t take it from him, HE GAVE IT TO YOU STUPID.

  56. Greatestloveofall

Yeah, Al Fuckin Sharpton complains about Nas, one of the few remaining prolific rappers we have, yet he doesn’t hunt down all these coon rappers who purport black stereotypes in their lyrics and videos, making black men look like pimps and sexual predators and black women like hoes and bitches (though that’s partly their own fault too).

  57. johnosahon

to continue, taking the word back will be calling the white man a “NIGG&R” , not calling yourself one. DUMB ASSES.

have you been under a ROCK? Al have be complainig about rap still it began. was he not the one who organised a rally a few months ago to protest against record companies that sell crap RAP?

and he is probably complaining like me, because as you said NAS is suppose to be a prolific rapper not a stupid fool like most rappers today. i would expect this crap from GHETTO rappers like 50 cent, NOT NAS
