Brandy, who is still in court with legal battles, is saying that recording her new album is helping her to cope. Police investigators recommended that Brandy be charged with misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, but the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office has yet to file charges.
“I’ve just got to get that album out,” the pop star tells PEOPLE. “I have to get it out, if it’s the last thing I do.” She continues, “I’ve been gone for a long time. I really want to give the fans something that they deserve to have. So, I’m working really hard on this. I really want to make it the best work I’ve done so far.”
Brandy’s as yet to be titled album will be her fifth studio album and the first since 2004′s critically well-received (even though sales weren’t what they were expected to be) Afrodisiac.
JAY-Z’S AMERICAN GANGSTER TOUR
Although he was supposedly “retired,” Jay-Z is releasing an album, based on his take of the true story of a 70′s drug trade, American Gangster. AG is set for the release date November 6th, while the film is due out on the 2nd.
In addition to a new record, Jay-Z is planning a small tour in intimate venues. The tour has very few dates, and Jay-Z will perform new material from the upcoming Def Jam release. Jay-Z has made sporadic live appearances in the past few years, most recently during the ScreamFest Tour’s New York stop, but this will be a stint on his own.

Nov. 7: Chicago (House of Blues)
Nov. 9: Baltimore (Ram’s Head)

MARIAH “IN LOVE” WITH NEW ALBUM
Mariah just launched her new fragrance, “M” but is now focused on recording her new album, due out on Def Jam early next year, the follow-up to her hugely successful, 3 Grammy Award winning Emancipation of Mimi. Apparently, Mariah is in love with the new material she’s recorded.
“It’s hard for me to sit here and talk about it without sounding like I’m bragging if I’m in love with it, but I’m in love with this album,” she says. “I think that having the success with the last record allowed me to have more freedom… and just make records that I like. It’s kind of a really fun record.”
Well, we’ll see Mariah. Honestly, when I heard she was working on some new material, I was a little surprised. I thought with Mimi, Mariah would let that be her last and end on a good note. I feel like she may be in the same boat as Usher with Confessions – such a great album, but you’re not sure how you’re going to top what you did. You know CL will keep you updated with what Mariah’s doing with this new project.

I honestly think they are only charging Brandy because she has money and she is well known. There have been numerous occurences involving car accidents were someone died or was critically injured from someone else driving too fast or carelessly but not under the use of drugs or alchol and once it was established that there was no involvement of drugs or alcohol no charges were filed. The death of this lady will forever be with Brandy and of course this situation would be hard on any family and my heart goes out to the family but charging her with murder is not the solution. And for all of you who will contest what I am saying check it out and see how many cases there have been involving the exact same thing and no charges were filed against the individual (if you have that much time).
I still keep Afrodisiac on heavy rotation. I love me some Brandy. My prayers go out to her and to the family related to the victim killed in the car crash. That whole situation is really sad.
