NEW MUSIC FROM ALICIA KEYS

Alicia Keys
– Like You’ll Never See Me Again

It took a long time for “No One” to grow on me, but I appreciate and love it now. But this song is beautiful to me, I really have a strong affinity for it. It’s probably the heavy Prince influence. “Like You’ll Never See Me Again,” to me, is different from anything that Alicia Keys has done. I feel like with As I Am, Alicia Keys is musically touching uncharted territory for her. It seems as though she’s experimenting with sounds that were untouched on Songs In A Minor and Diary. I can tell, even in live performances of some of the new material, that Alicia is trying some new things, which I’m happy about. As I Am hits stores November 13th, and “Like You’ll Never See Me Again” is rumored to to be the second single.

Be on the look out for more information on Alicia’s third studio album, As I Am. Also, make sure you pick up your copy of the new album on November 13th.

Song is beautiful. I hear the Prince influence in it as well. I will be getting the album on the 13th!

  2. hellokittylover

    the songs ok
its good that shes trying somting different shes growing as an artist

  3. #1, yes, most definitely. I think that’s why I’m so into it. I can’t stop listening to it.

  4. Dee from France

Love her, love the song !

  5. THIS JOINT IS FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I heard it earlier today and I’ve played it non-stop. I’ll be @ BESTBUY when they open on November 13.

    ******Claps for Ms. Keys********

I wonder what Prince is thinking with all these people biting his sound. Is he flattered or annoyed? I just wonder.

I was hoping that those first two singles by Alicia were simply the bottom of the barrel and that they made mistakes with those selections, but this is no better. Her voice sounds so hurt. What happened? I could totally have kicked this joint during mellow times but her voice seriously wrecks it. Takes away any feeling of relaxation because it sounds so grating.

I don’t think the music is all that great (it’s rather simplistic and sounds a little cluttered), but a smoother, mellower voice could have turned the track around. Janet can’t sing, but she can whisper the hell out of a song — maybe she shoulda done this one, LOL!

  7. Sharonda

Sounds good to me.I still don’t like No One though, now that I’m hearing new material I think I will be getting it.

  8. Minnie

Love it and yes very Prince-ish!!!

  9. Feeling it! Love the beat and the message. Now this is an artist who deserves their own post!

  10. Sharonda

Wait nevermind this was the song I was hearing yesterday I was wondering who it was lol.

It does sound like a slow down 80s joint.

  11. yomama

i think this one will have to grow on me,

  12. mena

Eh..it’s ok.. There’s a different version of No One that plays on the Top 40 station, that sounds like a more finished and “lighter” Alicia.. I like that one, but not the one where she sounds hoarse…

I need more before I buy..

  13. heckyeah

    Trying something different???

“No One” sounds like something she would’ve scrapped from her first album.

    Strike 4 Brian!!!!!

This song is hot though, its WAAYYY better than “No One”

Its produced by Timbaland so that’s why it has that heavy Prince influence.

  14. Luvinmusic

Its offical Alicia is R&B…..she doin for R&B kind of what Kanye does for hip hop which is reinvent theirselves they try new things instead of havin the same sound as thier previous works or what other artist put out at the time

  15. Desirae

yes, i was goin to say Prince too! It sounds like “Diamonds & Pearls”….i knew it was some Prince song! And i like Alicia’s song too!

  16. I dunno, I have to get used to this “New Alicia”.

  17. heckyeah

    @15

WHAT???? Alicia’s makes good music (on her last two albums) but her music is not reinventing R&B!

Kelis, Beyonce, Janelle Monae and Amerie are reinventing r&b, doing different things. Not Alicia who uses the same piano melody on each song NO NO!

  18. ISN'T IT FUNNY.....

I like it and I am sooooo excited about this album. I appreciate how ALICIA tries to grow as an ARTIST and not play it safe. That is what being a TRUE ARTIST is all about. She doesn’t just play it safe, stuck to what worked for her when she first got into the game. I have seen ALICIA play the piano, then change it up to a GUITAR… then just rock it SOLO. All of this while writting her own SONGS. I don’t care what anyone say’s, this girl is the TRUTH. She is not afraid of change. Sometimes people won’t like it… sometimes they’ll LOVE it…. but atleast she tries new things. I’ve seen people say that her voice is straining or that she is looking too SEXY these day’s (whatever that may mean, LOL) but all I see is ALICIA growing as an ARTIST. She’s EVOLVING that’s all. And it will pay off for her HIGHLY in the end.

  19. Desirae

okay now that i gave it a listen, it s more like Purple Rain with the pianos towards the end, thats the same piano in the beginning of Alicia’s song….luvin it!

  20. Rudeboy

The reason why it sounds like Prince is because there is a Purple Rain sample in there….

  21. Aries

I absolutely love this song. As soon as i heard it I emailed CL and was like I really love this song please post it lol. I dont know if they did it or not for me but lol ill try to believe they did. But yea I am really anticipating the new album I really like the direction she is going with. And I agree with you! #1 I definately here Prince

  22. Luvinmusic

    @18
reinventing theirselves not R&B she kind of brings it back 2 me like im not a R&B head but to me dis would be the most diff thing on da radio

  23. Sexy Black

    I LOVE “TANK”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. Diamonds & Girls

OMG. Alicia officially rox my sox.
I love that she is trying somethin new…it works!

    What a beautiful song.

  25. vickie

I like it alot better than “No One”. I feel like No one was something she really didn’t put time and effort into, but just tried to have something out there for the sake of having an introductory single. Even though alot fo A.Key fans won’t admit to it, i will…but the vocals on that song are horrible, and I was really let down with her comeback with that. This song however, should have been the first single, and I definitley hear prince in the background. I appreciate it more because she put some effort into it…Im tired of artist just throwing fans slop just because they know we’ll buy it cuz its them. Im ready to get what I pay for..maybe one day guys.

  26. CLEARMINDED

I only give people props for doing “different” things if they do it WELL. Not everything different is good. This is a bad…very bad…Prince impersonation and doesn’t have even a fraction of Prince’s musicianship. If Timbaland did indeed produce this then this must have been a Timberlake reject — his production on that album is head and shoulders above this song.

  27. yes

This is better than “No One” but like #7 the voice is killin it for me. It’s like she pissed off the protools guy or sumthin. Or started smokin, not aces. Anyway, I wanna know what Prince songs yall are hearing when u listen to her cuz I dont hear any Prince influence. Maybe cuz I like nasty Prince…

  28. Alicia Keys is singing like she’s in love……I wonder who the woman is.

    @23

I understand what you mean but her NEW music is not different or reinventing the genre at all.

Artists like Kelis, Janelle Monae and Amerie (with her new CD) are trying different things by being daring in the genre not doing the same thing (Example: “Kiss Kiss” by Chris Brown sounds like the same shit we’ve heard before, yet people still LOVE it and go out and by it cause it sounds the same) but people will say that their music is bad or their album is bad because it doesn’t sound like the same ol, same ol type r&b…..its called CONTEMPORARY R&B we need to learn more about its uprising in modern times.

And FYI her voice on “No One” is just fine to me, shes singing from the heart…I just am not feeling the song’s subject matter, too bland.

  30. not feeling this song it just sounds like she is trying to sing like prince. sorry

  31. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SONG, I HEARD IT ON 92Q YESTERDAY AND FELL IN LOVE!!!!!!!!!!! This one track has pursuaded me into buying the whole album when it comes out. Keep doin’ ya thang Alicia!!!
    ~Ms.Sweets~

Oh yeah, this is officially my new myspace song LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

^^ ROFLMAO…..*DEAD*…… Kelis…… Amerie…. BEYONCE!!!…. reinventing R&B? I have heard it all. I hope you’re not grown saying all that. I like KELIS and her style and some of her songs, but I wouldn’t go that far. Amerie, that doesn’t even deserve a comment.. she’s pretty though, LOL! And Beyonce is cool, but i’m sorry she does the same stuff over and over. I always know what to expect, a bunch of hair flinging, hard dancing and a glitter dress. When she first came out solo, I thought “Beyonce better work!!”, I liked the sound and she performs her butt off for people!! But now, it’s old and as a supposed “artist” I wish she would grow. Pretty soon people are going to get tired of her music, because while her beats are catchy…. her lyrics aren’t about nothing. I hope her next album is better then this last one, because the last one really had to grow on me. If trying to reinvent TINA TURNER or DIANA ROSS is what you call “reinventing R&B” then that is unfortounate. LOL!! I’m not sure if Alicia is “reinventing R&B” but I do appreciate her GROWTH as an ARTIST.

  33. Desirae

play “Purple Rain” (mine is 8:40) and put it right at 7 minutes and u’ll hear the piano influence, atleast to me it is

  35. Superman's_Girl

this song is dope. the truest words anyone ever said: you can’t please everybody.

  36. Let..Me..FIND...OUT

OKAY THIS SONG IS BETTER THAN NO ONE BUT I’M NOT UNDERSTANDING WHY ALICIA ‘S VOICE SOUNDS SO HARSH LATELY. DID SHE STRAIN HER VOCAL CORDS WHAT?! I COULD GET WITH THIS SONG IF I COULD GET PASS HER VOICE.

  37. heckyeah

    @34

Uhh, and who asked for your comment. No one was addressing you…

All of Kelis’ albums are critically acclaimed

I’m not a fan of Amerie but her album “Because I Love It” is good and is also a critically acclaimed album…and when I was talking about the naysayers who think that it’s bad because it doesn’t sound like you’re favorite boring, same r&b, I was addressing dummies like yourself. And yes she can sing (not as good as many of the females) but the girl knows how to harmonize with her songs, a talent that artists like Ciara and Cassie lack.

As far as Beyonce is concerned…let me retract my statement with that and move on…….

  38. Stand_Up

This song is the Bizzzznessss… Beautiful…Can’t wait to cop that album on Nov 13th

  39. chassidy

I am so glad you won the American idol contest

  40. dollfaced

the song is dope, and she said herself she was influenced by purple rain with this one. and btw, timbaland DIDN’T produce this song, Alicia and Kerry “Krucial” Brothers wrote and produced this track together.

  41. heckyeah

    Oh and #34

Kiss the fattest part of my ass, you dumb reject! Writing fucking essay just to down Beyonce and Amerie????? Get a life THEN go play in traffic!

Once again, NOT A FAN of Amerie or Beyonce

Yes I am a fan of Alicia’s on the other hand but I do have problems with the subject matter of her latest songs….too bland and repetitive.

  42. misspetite82

wow is all I can say she is an artist that speaks to regular people about the subject that conects us all and that is love. No one had to grow on me but that is good because I appreciate it now. Can’t wait for her CD!!!

  43. briana ツ

i love her slow jams…..her voice sounds so passionate with that old school flare. i love this….i’m getting that album on the 13th!!!

  44. Detgurl

I was really amped about her coming out with new material and this song is ok, but I hear “take my breathe away” and Prince all thorugh this song and so far it hasn’t struck a cord with me. I’m going to fall back on coping the album until my friends get and I her it yes I that cheap dont want to waste 12 buck…now if she come out with a video that’s hot my mind might change but as for now I dont think I will like this new album..Oh by the way Jagged Edge new album “baby making project” is fire seriously. I downloaded it off of mininova but I will buy it as gifts for x-mas.

  45. Superman's_Girl

i hear “the beautiful ones” and “scandalous” in it. if i had to guess whether prince was flattered or pissed, i’d choose the former not the latter.

  46. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

    P.S. #29….you aint slick.

  47. ISN'T IT FUNNY.....

    @39

Okay it’s official… you’re not GROWN. LOL! You can’t even respond in a mature manner, how sad. This is a blogsite, so there for people will comment on different posts…get it? The same way you felt the need commented towards someone else on this topic saying Alicia isn’t reinventing R&B. If you feel that Amerie and Kelis are “reinventing R&B” then please continue right ahead and stop being angry with people for not beleiving so. I find it funny that you named KELIS and AMERIE (who are more POP artist)…. but left out artist like MARY J. or Jill Scott. You know…. TRUE R&B artist. At least you would have had an argument with them. And now you kick Beyonce out the convo, she’s not “reinventing R&B” anymore to you now? LOL! As far as you calling me a “dummy” for laughing at your comment…. i’ll leave it a lone, because i’m above it… I don’t do Internet B*TCH FIGHTS over trivial things such as this. Your comment was entertaining none the less…. but do yourself a favor and go look up R&B in the dictionary, before you go preaching about what is R&B and what’s not. God Bless and Kick Rocks :)

  48. Cherry

Once again, Lellow did it on this one.

Some artists just sing this kind of song with no feeling, but Alicia.. she ALWAYS knows how to get into the MEANING of what she’s trying to say.

I’ve already said I’m getting the album ONCE I heard she was making another album… even if I have to ride my bike to WalMart to go get it, I don’t care lol

And you guys, if you didn’t hear, on this album she says she’s going for a more raspery tone & definitely something you haven’t heard from her before. I mean like they say about Beyonce, you can almost guess that every song she makes has somehow the same “meaning” towards them.

Beyonce is kinda staying neutral for me, but Alicia is indeed “evolving”

Love it or Leave it Alone.

    PEACE !! lol

    AS I AM !! NOVEMBER 13TH !! GO COP DAT !! haha

you know you want to …. lol

  49. heckyeah

    @49

No you’re still a dummy, writing a damn novel just to try and prove a point. Shows that you really don’t have a life since you’re writing all that and it has no MEANING!

Mary J. is the queen, but she already has reinvented r&b back in the early 90s…they don’t call her the queen of Hip-Hop/Soul for nothing.

  50. Cherry

Oh & Timbaland did NOT produce this.

  51. Cherry

Oh & Timbaland DID NOT produce this song.

  52. tamika

The song is okay. People kill me with the comparisons though. Alicia has her lane that she’s trying to follow, so does every other artist. I don’t understand why people argue about who is better than who. pointless. It would be great if this topic could stay on Alicia and this song.

  53. Irene

I thought I wouldn’t like this song at first, but when I really got into the song and listened to the lyrics I really started to feel it. I think it has an old school feeling and I do get a sense of some prince influenced into this song. Can’t quite put my finger on which song it reminds me of though. I really hope her album is as good as her others. Alicia please save this R&B for the females, because slowly but surely the men are doing okay in there area of R&B.

  54. I’m lovin this song!!! I can’t wait for her album to drop!!!

  55. it’s alright, nothin groundbreaking about it. plus biting off prince’s sound , is NOT “reinventing R&B”. Alicia keys sounds very strained and rough on her new songs, because she keeps trying to sing out of her limited range(she’s an alto). she’s a not a vocal powerhouse

  56. ISN'T IT FUNNY.....

    Oh and #34
    @43

“Kiss the fattest part of my ass, you dumb reject! Writing fucking essay just to down Beyonce and Amerie????? Get a life THEN go play in traffic!

Yes I am a fan of Alicia’s on the other hand but I do have problems with the subject matter of her latest songs….too bland and repetitive”.

^^ Since when is a paragraph an ESSAY? Apparently, you might want to go back to school as well and learn the difference. LMAO! You have typed more then everyone combined on this post. And where was I “downing” anyone…. I gave everyone compliments (quit trying to sick the “BEY STANS” on me) ROTFL…. are you sure you are not a fan of either, because you sure are doing a lot. I could care less if your a fan of Alicia’s or not…. I just thought it was funny, you preaching about whose “reinventing R&B”, the people you named gave me a chuckle that’s all. Calm down before you have a stroke…. you getting mad at this stupid mess, commenting towards everyone on this page and i’m the one who needs to get a life… *double dead*…… I give your whole post a big fat “B*TCH PLEASE”!! LMAO!! Now please go somewhere and take some MEDICATION before you pass out.

  57. JoRo

The lyrics and the production = great. Alicia’s vocals…not so much. Same with No One, in my opinion.

  58. YVETTE

i absolutely love this song, from first listen. yes she probably was inspired by Prince just as Prince has been inspired by someone else. Every artist that comes out has been inspired by someone, its not that big of a deal. I understand why someone would make a comment about her reinventing r&b or at least refreshing it with some true singing and some love ballads instead of all this bubble gum pop ish…
