Nick & Selita in March 2007 (Wireimage)Another Hollywood couple for the books – Nick Cannon and Selita Ebanks called off their engagement and have officially broken up, according to Ebanks’ rep and People magazine:
“Selita and Nick are taking a break to focus on their careers but still very much love each other and remain the best of friends,” says her rep, Melissa Raubvogel.
The breakup comes just five months after the Drumline actor made a proposal that lit up New York’s Times Square – literally – as he asked Ebanks to marry him with the help of a jumbotron.
By August, Cannon, 26, was more measured when it came to nailing down wedding details, telling PEOPLE, “We haven’t really talked about a lot of that stuff. You’ve got to take it slow.”
As for Ebanks, 24, she said earlier in the summer that the pair had some fundamental differences between their ideal ceremony. “He’s all about the bling and having a big wedding. Me? I’m all about the courthouse.”
Word in the blog-o-sphere, Nick was already seen being cozy with “Fell The Noise” star Zulay Henao at the Hennessy Artistry New York concert last night. I actually liked these two as a “couple”.

Don’t know who is more lame, Nick or Ray J…. either way, this was going to happen sooner than later. And to think BET kept showing them all hugged up together at the BET awards like they were the modern day Will and Jada. Get serious.

I never believed it was anything more than a publicity stunt. To tell the truth I’d have been shocked if they’d actually managed to walk down the isle.
I’m not surprised, they got engaged on their second date.

For some reason, this never seemed real to me. I think Nick was serious, but she didn’t seem sincere. I’m glad he’s moving on. No need to lose everything to someone who never really loved you.

Just another “power” couple. The same old standard black male celeb with lightskinded/white/Latina model ala Russell and Kimora, Lenny Kravitz and his nonblack models-of-the-month. Nick has moved on and “upgraded” to a Latina. A few months from now he’ll upgrade again to a Swedish blonde in between hittin Kim K LOL!!!
