In Daughters of Men, author Rachel Vassel has compiled dozens of stunning photographs and compelling personal essays about African-American women and their fathers. Whether it’s a father who mentors his daughter’s artistic eye by taking her to cultural events or one who unwaveringly supports a risky career move, the fathers in this book each had his own unique and successful style of parenting.

The first book to showcase the importance of the black father’s impact on the accomplishments of his daughter, Daughters of Men provides an intimate look at black fatherhood and the many ways fathers have a lasting impact on their daughters’ lives. The book features: Beyonce, Malinda Williams, Sanaa Lathan, Megan Good and more.

that last picture should’ve been a “caption this”….because Nicole is looking spooky as hell looking away and Melinda and Vanessa are looking at her like “what, what do you see???” LOL!

  2. @ #35…Why would you rely on the media for anything? What? Because they rarely mention black fathers they are supposed to be parable? And you are the same person trying to call other people dumb? LMAO! Hilarious!

Now this is one book I will support.

This was a wonderful event. Lisa and her team did a great job of showcasing this incredible project. Many of the women and their fathers featured in the project were there. They were all very warm and kind folks.

I am hopeful that the author, some of the ladies and their fathers will introduce this much needed conversation to the city of Detroit.

Im going to get it for my father…so he can see what the hell he was supposed to do. LOL. No seriously, it looks like a good book and I wish it much success. I do plan to buy a copy of it to show my support

  8. Good that black father’s are been acknowledged and appreciated by their daughters. A father’s input in their daughter’s life is so important. Some men just don’t understand what being a father is about so we need more events that highlight the one’s who do. Will be buying a copy.
