I actually have Solange’s first album and it’s very soulful and unique… I think the problem is that her management (her daddy, Mr. Matthew Knowles) and the rest of her team, is trying to market her in the same stream/genre as her sister (duh.. Beyonce Knowles)!!! When Solange is a bit more mellow and deep, more in the same genre as say a Heather Headley. However I wish her all the best… and if her first single catches my attention I just might go cop the entire album!

Despite what people say about her, she seems to have a really sweet spirit , she has talent that goes unrecognized ( I didn’t say she could sing), and plus she seems to have some type of personality (unlike you know who).

I’ve liked and respected Solange since I heard the tracks she wrote for Kelly’s debut, the arrangements and phrasing were excellent. (the “you see with me you’re never liable to pain” bit on “Simply Deep”) She has real musical talent and not just a voice. I can’t wait for her album because I heard Bilal and Q-Tip are meant to be on it, so I hope it has more of a neo-soul direction instead of the pop direction Matthew made her take last time round…

I agree! I think that Solange is wise beyond her years, and her flaws make her human. A lot of young women can relate to her. She sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders, and having heard about some of the people she’s working on this next album with—-Cee Lo, Bilal, Marsha (of Floetry)—-she definitely has my interest peaked. I really like the 2 songs that were posted on CL earlier this year.

I think trying to compare Solange and Beyonce is like comparing apples and peanuts. They aren’t the same, people! The only thing about them that’s alike is the fact that they share the same parentage. I think that Bee was groomed to be exactly what she is, an international superstar. Solo has always been the rebel. She didn’t let her mom style, and she went about her own way on her first album. There’s a lot of refreshing, respectable qualities about the youngest Knowles sister, and I can’t wait to see what she has to offer the world.

I’m not feeling the pictures. Nor do I get this around the way image. At all. She is well spoken though. But I’m sorry, I’m not buying her image. I find what Solange DIDN’T say way more interesting than what she did say in this interview. For instance, she never denied a relationship with Lil Wayne, just that she didn’t leave her husband for him (which I believe, that relationship was over soon after the marriage, I’m sure).

I read an article a few years back after Solange’s “not-so-great” album came out(JUST MY OPINION) where she was saying she would like to be like her sister…I also read an article where Beyonce stated she prefers to be more relaxed and in jeans and a T-Shirt and no heels when she is not on tour or doing a gig. I have yet to see her not looking like she just stepped off a video shoot, but as much as the PAPS follow her I would look like a million $ getting out of bed too. My opinion is unpopular but ohh wellll….Solange is probably the only person with a real musical identity in the Knowles camp, and sorry Kelly but I actually respect Solange more. I think many people refuse to give her the benefit of the doubt because she’s B’s sister. The marriage was a fiasco, okay get over it, she was on 17, I blame the parents for bad influence/decision. As for the pregnancy, accidents happen, BOTH Daniel and her are to blame, but the girl kept the child and decided to raise him, parenthood at age 17 is not “cute” but at least she learned from it and took responsibility. Her child is happy and healthy, time to MOVE ON now. The girl is obviously intelligent, well spoken, mature and knows who she is and what she wants, at only 21? I respect that.

We can say and think she will never be as big as Beyonce, but the same was said about Janet at the beginning of her career when she was being compared to Michael, so who knows? Janet is a better businesswoman than Michael, in a far better financial situation, although she faced a divorce at 18 years old she is happy in her personal life now, and she can come back more easily. She is NOT messed up like her big bruh. Solange? She wrote for Beyonce, Michelle and Kelly. Also, she’s been in movies, they use her voice for kids toys, she did the Wal-Mart commercial theme song, so basically she’s PAID. Solange is not in the limelight but she’s smart and has a good sense of business. That’s why I respect her more.

I have to say, I think Solange does interviews much better than her sister. I’m glad she kept the details of her divorce to herself because just because its not the public’s business what happened there, and it’s definitely not good for their son to air dirty laundry like that.

Solange will never be like her sister Bey because she is not as marketable. Meaning she lacks Bey’s more mixed/Creole look. Solange got knocked up for attention. Y’all know how it is in the black community between sisters. The lightskinned sister with the “good” hair and the green eyes gets all the love while the darkerskinned one sits in the background while everyone oohs and aahs over the other one.
