THE NEW MUSIC REVIEW

Mario – Skippin’ (full) – listen
Mario did right with this song. I don’t understand why he didn’t use this as a first single. I’m sure after the first material was recorded and leaked, he went back in and did this as well as some other songs that I’ve loved from Go!. Production wise, and vocally, this song gives me what I need. With Go leaking now, and Mario’s album finally having a solidified date of November 27th (record stores say October 30), lets hope they can finally get this project out. He’s been performing (he’s had several dates with Kelly Rowland) and doing promo, and releasing a second video, so things must be going pretty good.

Britney Spears feat. Pharrell Williams – Stupid Things (full) – listen
I guess people weren’t playing when they said Britney was going back in the studio with ever black super-producer. Even though this song sucks vocally (which I’m not surprised by), it has it’s appeal. The track is obviously produced by Pharrell Williams (or The Neptunes). Based on the lyrical content of the song, Britney is being open and honest about her relationship with Federline, which I can respect. The album is appropriately titled Blackout. The release was November 16th, but I’m positive that’s subject to change.

Cassie – Turn the Lights Off (full) – listen
I hate Cassie’s voice, I just hate everything about her, but it’s just crazy how she comes out with these crazy addictive songs. I try so hard to not even listen to her material, but it always gets stuck in my head. Ryan Leslie, admittedly, is a genius. He knows how to put together a song, and since Cassie was, after all, his project celebrity, he’s going to lavish his most well-written songs for her, and himself, of course. Cassie is supposed to be releasing a new album, entitled The Return. We’ll see.

Chris Brown – With You (snippet) – listen
“With You” is supposedly Chris Brown’s third single and I can totally see why. Sounds like Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable,” Rihanna’s “Good Girl Gone Bad,” and lastly, Jordin Sparks’ “Tattoo.” I’m just going to assume that this is produced by Stargate (like those other 3 songs) and written by Ne-Yo. But you know what, I’m not mad. Get in where you fit in. Chris Brown’s first two singles, “Wall to Wall” and “Kiss Kiss” (featuring T-Pain) haven’t been doing as well as his camp has expected. Hopefully this will get some play, because I have really been liking Chris’s new material from his new album, Exclusive.
