THE ROUND UP: JA RULE RESPONDS TO CONTROVERSIAL INTERVIEW + NEWS ON BEYONCE AND LAYZIE BONE
Monday, October 1, 2007
Photo: Johnny Nunez/Wireimage. In a recent interview with Spinner magazine, Ja Rule responded to the backlash he received after making comments on homosexuality in the media. The rapper told Spinner his comments were taken out of context and he has nothing against the gay community:
J.R: I’m a very avid speaker for all people’s rights and people having their own preference. I was taken out of context. My statement was more about where our mind state is as a people. We’re focused on the wrong things — like, our country is at war right now. These things are more of a problem to me. Like another case I just read about — young ladies being raped by six white men. These are the stories that should be popping up on my TV screen. That’s what I was talking about, and somehow it got spun into some other s—.
S: How would you react if one of your kids told you that he or she was gay?
J.R. That’s their own preference. I’m going to love them regardless. I have relatives that are homosexuals and, you know, they come over for Christmas, hang out. It’s something that starts with us. That’s why my album is named “The Mirror” — because everybody has to look at themselves and take it upon themselves to educate. It’s my responsibility to educate my children — not the TV. I think a visual is more influential than audio, but that goes without being said. You know, that’s the world we live in and people are tight in the collar about a lot of issues. It is what it is. READ MORE
I like how he threw his upcoming album in his explanation…nice move.
Photo: Wireimage. Beyonce had to cut her World Tour a bit short after canceling her debut performance in Malaysia. Word is, she was not trying to tone down her costume wear as requested and protests from Muslim groups followed this cancellation. Why did her peoples even agree in the first place, didn’t they know this:
When announcing the concert on Aug. 17, Pineapple said it would abide by the rules, which say there must be no hugging or kissing audience members or fellow artists, no jumping or shouting, no throwing objects onstage or at the audience and no foul language.
Clothes cannot have obscene or drug-related images or messages, and female performers must show no skin from the tops of their chests to their knees.
Promoters and sponsors must pledge in writing that they accept and will inform the performers of the rules, as well as ensuring that they follow them.
I mean with a song like “Freakum Dress”…really.
Bizzy pops the question. In other random news, Bone Thugs N’ Harmony member Layzie Bone is engaged. The rapper felt crispy and popped the question to his girlfriend on the red carpet:
Layzie arrived at the screening hand in hand with Felicia Howse, mother of his children and girlfriend of 13 years. After taking photos on the red carpet alongside group member Wish Bone, Wish stepped to the side as Layzie had Felicia to join him. He got down on one knee and presented her with a 5 karat cushion cut diamond ring as he asked her to take his hand in marriage.
13 years AND kids though? She most definitely deserve that five karat!

Ja Rule: “I’m a very avid speaker for all people’s rights and people having their own preference.” Ok, whatever!
Beyonce: That concert would have been a drag. I don’t know why they agreed to it either.
Bizzy Bone: OKAY…the mother of his children & girlfriend for 13 years? WOW! Well congrats to them!

About the Beyonce Fiasco:
Reading this i was really thrown off. it’s unfortunate that countries are under such strict jurisdiction , it really makes you appreciate what we have here in America.. no matter how messed up this country is ( ex. Jena 6 .. amongst MANY OTHER THINGS) … but i think it was the promoters fault for not checking out the foreign affairs beforehand … i mean how an you plan something this elaborate and “not know”… someone needs to do their homework.

Its so funny how when the interviewers and cameras are out of clear view the gay comments are thrown around but as soon as its brought to the table, no one said anything negative…all of a sudden everyone has a gay cousin or uncle…Ja is full of it he has to love everyone right now with that album coming out
it doesn’t matter how long Layzie Bone was with his girl before he married her..a ring is just a representation..congrats to him though…plus his name is Layzie Bone

13 yrs…common law..they were already married. It’s nice that he did propose, but they could break up after a year of marriage, so…that means nothing…love is what matters.
Bey..I read that shit the other day..please…that was a dumb ass booking.
Ja…idiot…don’t try and back pedal after u said what the hell u said..nothing was taken outta context and u know it.

I still love jarule :-() and the songs he and ashanti made together he should have never allowed 50
to make him change his style now 50 singing more than ja ever did. ja & ashanti need to hit another home run. As for bey her mom is an “Artist” “designer” this should have been a challenge but a real designer would have abided by the rules and still had something banging for the show.

beyonce had the right to say no, but she already had a set date to perform. i hope everyone got a full refund.

Ja is a washed up rapper and all this shit is just cheap publicity-stunt to boost sales. His new track is WACK and nothin new about all the other shit he’s done since 2001.
Bey, boring I’m tired of her. She needs to take a break from music and get married and have some kids. Might give her a new perspective, and in that time, she ought to take some speech lessons.

Well, I dont really know what they expected from Beyonce , most of her songs are sexy .

personally i agree with what ja said about tv shows and homosexuality. He didnt say anything homophobic just what was real. i mean did u see preview of that new show on mtv/vh1 (I forget which channel) Anyway some chick is supposed to be bisexual and she will men and women competing for her. Now how trashy is that, I mean my daughter is 3 so I wouldnt have to worry about her watching it but if she were older i wouldnt appreciate that at all. I mean yeah i know u can do the parental block on the tv but who should have to do all that just dont make trash like that to pollute the airwaves.

Um Yeah Lazie should have been married that girl, I hope the wait was worth it. I’ll say this again, people have the right to say they do not condone being gay and everything associated with that. You can’t go on a witch hunt because someone says they do not support it. I do not support it, that’s my right. But no one should BASH or harm others just because they do not like their sexuality. Beyonce should have turned down that appearance from the beginning. The rules are too restrictive.

Is anybody shocked that a woman who sells sex for a living (via her clothes and dance style) would bow out of a concert which would require her to have a “clean” performance, and to actually wear real clothes would do so? Sorry not me…those countries requirements just separates the truly talented from the ones who have made a living on selling sex. I guess in her case, it’s not all about the voice as some people would claim that’s where her talent is, obviously she and her management don’t feel that way…not for one or two days could they go without the wild dancing and barely there clothing…she should have been able to stand alone on her voice, obviously not…not shocked at all…just shocked that she thought she could take that nickel and dime slut act over there…this also shows how permissible some countries are, and that some countries still enforce decency laws.

Imagine if America set standards like other contries?
Too bad so so sad we dont….thats why AMERICA IS CHOPPED AND SCREWED..too many ppl use freedom to their advantage…jumpn and screamin can lead to someone bein pushed accidently and then we all know and mos cases leads to a fight…..also….some ppl dont like for others to be screamin all in their ear like they just seen JESUS CHRIST himself…..and plzbaleeve no celeb deserves that much honor..AND yes we do have some crazy azz ppl in AMERICA that go to concerts and be throwin shh on stage…some get stupid and throw bottles or other type shh that instead of landin on stage lands upside someones head…AND how pitiful BEYONCE doesnt know how to DRESS and yes I mean that literally…I mean ma can find some clothes thats not actually shown azz & titties…for RESPECT AND APPRECIATION to all her fans whom just dont exist in AMERICA she should have been willin to that for them. That was selfish of her. Those rules arent silly they make hella sense…unfortunately not too many ppl comprehend sense…theyre concerts are basically about havin control…keepin the audience calm cool and collected not rowdy and crazy like most concerts in AMERICA. See the difference between other contries and AMERICA is there isnt any control here.
and Ja…just go in yo hole and eat some cheese…plz

The clothing rule, no skin from the top of the chest to the knees really…really…REALLY isn’t that hard to do! Her arms could’ve showed, the rest of legs could’ve showed. That would’ve just been covering up her stomach, and maybe adding an inch or two to the bottom of her costumes. Come on now. It’s not like they said from the top of her neck to her ankles! There are many different customs for different cultures, some of which that would think what this culture was asking for is still risque! I don’t think the wardrobe change would have been that serious. It’s all about respecting and adhering to their customs…and it was only for one night.

I thought the same thing (her canceling that show proved her achilles heel is the inability to sell herself)… The girl is undoubtedly talented, but her physicallity is the crux of her art, it really is, and it’s both an asset and liability…
It reminds me of Shania Twain… She didn’t become a “star” until videos became the norm and people SAW her, flailing in a half-shirt… And, she was untouchable in country music until she spread herself too thin, she began to take on a pop persona (crossing over for $$$$) that led her to feel justified in tampering with her look (which was a sorta boondock goddess thing). She even went as far as wearing her hair in crochet braids lol and all of it hurt her, her appeal began to wane… And, in the mean time, Faith Hill, already a popular singer, came out with a new album but this time she had COMPLETELY TAKEN ON SHANIA’S OLD STYLE, hair extensions, risque clothing, sexed up lyrics and imaging…she became Shania, essentially, and she had a run as THE FEMALE COUNTRY ARTIST that has only now begun to fizzle (with Carrie Underwood)… and Shania was basically over for several years…
The point is, if you rely so much on sex appeal, something ANYBODY with a trainer and a bit of will power can have, you’re building a house on sand…

JaRule made perfect sense. He should have known better than to even mention gays and lesbians in his interview for any reason since it is should a touchy subject. A lot of people hear or read the words “gay” and completely lose the ability to understand where it came from and why was it even brought up. Some just don’t get it.

I feel bad for JaRule…everybody liked him, he was everywhere and then 50 came out saying “Don’t like him” and everybody flipped on him (if you never liked him, I’m obviously not talking about you, but somebody liked him…I remember him being everywhere between 2000-2001).
And, what 50 used as promotion to sell some records seems to have bitten him in the ***. I read somewhere that his second week sales are down more than 70%… It seems that he’s made himself look “over” by making that phony promise to retire if Kanye outsold him…
Honestly, I don’t think it worked for either of them, because while Kanye sold more, the drama of it + the drama of his MTV fit has really made him seem “extra,” like he’s been out promoting this album and causing trouble for years and it’s hardly been a couple of months SMH.
