I think that his points are vaild but his approach is often offensive and easily to misinterpret. Michael Eric Dyson did a great lecture about Cosby’s viewpoints on Black America.

Bill Cosby is always downing poor blacks - is it because he finds them an embarassment to his circle and status. Although most of what he says is true he offers nothing but criticisms as though that can do something - Instead of just talking about the language, bad schooling, lack of motivation, drugs , jails etc perhaps he could put some of his money in programs to help. I don’t believe that this is what parents in these neighborhood want for the children. Yes he gives(or should i say gave) to the black middle classs but I would be impressed if he also made some small effort to help the poor in inner cities and small southern towns.I don’t even believe that Cosby can relate to these people anymore -he has been removed from them for so long and is only reiminded of their presence when he sees negative images on TV. Instead of running his mouth with these newscasters perhaps he should take a tour of some poor neighborhoods to see the life that these kids have to face.

This is where we need to have 400 or 500 comments. People need to pay more attention to their children because it all starts at home. Dr. William Cosby, PhD. is telling the truth. People who talk about him having an affair or what white people do also, are just trying to distract from the truth. There is an epidemic in the urban Black communinty.

#15-I disagree that Bill Cosby is ‘downing poor black kids’; I believe he is speaking in regards to Black youth in general. He is speaking about doing actual parenting, not just producing children with every man/woman that we find attractive. I, for one, am proud that a Black man is standing up and speaking the truth. He’s not concerned with hurt feelings and bruised egos, and I believe that is what many of us need to hear. Some do not see the error of their ways and Cosby is trying to awaken some of us so we are able to become successful and not the stereotypical products of a negative society.

On criticism:

On raising children:
I’m sure that his parents raised him to drug multiply women in order to have sex with them.

What credibility does he have to talk about any form of Hip Hop when you have said that he doesn’t “want to hear anything THESE people have to say” when asked if rap has any valid messages.

Bill Cosby has been ranting this same tune for years and and that is about all he does when he has an opportunity for a prime time TV spot. Come to think of it, his own kids haven’t really amounted to much except the offspring of rich parents. His daughter was a drug addict and he himself has been sued by women(white) for sexual improprieties - where there is smoke…
I say put your money where your mouth is - celebrities do have clout- gay Elton John stepped up to the plate to help with the aids epidemic which was ravaging the gay community. Cosby would have more legitimacy if he could start some foundation that could have some impact to address some of the problems( real) that he is talking about. Just ranting on national TV and writing a book does not do much - may raise debate for a while but the people he is talking about are not listening to him.

I can only speak from personal experience. In my community (Bronx, NY) More black men are in prison than in college. Many families I know are 2nd and 3rd generation welfare recipients. And when I ask my son not to show up to my job with a rag on his head and his pants hanging off his ass he looks at me like there is something wrong with me. I do not know a single young person in my neighborhood who seriously aspires to a career in Medicine, Law or Education.

Some of his points are valid, but they are no different than points and discussions that many others have made — His approach has become increasingly disrespectful and condescending, and other than just telling these young black men how poor of a job they are doing, what is he offering in terms of helping them to to better?

Writing a book, [ which I will probably read] does little to actually help the situation - unless he will be using the proceeds and profits for some educational or trade programs.

You can tell a child how bad they are, and you can tell them that everyday, all day. But until you SHOW them a better way, all you are doing is helping them to fill that prophecy.

As unfortunate as it is, many of these young men and women, have never been taught any better - and until they know and understand better, they really can’t do better.

With the resources we have today, its no excuse not to be getting an education and making something better out yourself. 37 Percent of U.S. Births Out of Wedlock

ATLANTA (AP) - Out-of-wedlock births in the United States have climbed to an all-time high, accounting for nearly four in 10 babies born last year, government health officials said Tuesday.
While out-of-wedlock births have long been associated with teen mothers, the teen birth rate actually dropped last year to the lowest level on record. Instead, births among unwed mothers rose most dramatically among women in their 20s.

The overall rise reflects the burgeoning number of people who are putting off marriage or living together without getting married.

The increase in births to unwed mothers was seen in all racial groups, but rose most sharply among Hispanics. It was up among all age groups except youngsters ages 10 to 17.

Hispanic immigrants have seen the largest increase in out-of-wedlock births — from 19 percent of births in 1980 to 42 percent in 2003. This is important because Hispanics account for nearly 60 percent of all births to immigrants.

In addition to the 42 percent rate for Hispanic immigrants, the illegitimacy rate is now 39 percent for black immigrants, 11 percent for Asian/Pacific Islanders, and 12 percent for white immigrants.

There’s no indication of improvement over the generations. Among natives, the illegitimacy rate is 50 percent for Hispanics; 30 percent for Asian/Pacific Islanders, and 24 percent for whites.

2003 is the first time that the absolute number of illegitimate births to Hispanics (immigrant and native) outnumbered illegitimate births to blacks (immigrant and native).

Out-of-wedlock births are highest for those with the least education; among immigrant mothers who lack a high school diploma, 45 percent of births are illegitimate.

I didn’t want to go there but I have to go there. Are you serious? First, why are we continuing to create programs for people that don’t want to help themselves.? You are only enabling them. Trust me, I have a few in my family that want the government to give, give, give but they don’t want to do for themselves! they expect other people to take care of them. they don’t want to work, don’t want to go to school, has no motivation what so ever….so how much help do you need?
And i’m not saying that everyone is abusing the system. We all fall down at some point in our lives and there are programs to assist you in getting back on your feet. I just think that it all starts with the individual.

He’s right, we as black people are so quick to yell racism but we’ve hurt oursleves worse than anybody else. It starts with the parents and you’ve got to start young. Doesn’t matter if the child is born in or out of wedlock, black men need to take financial and emotional responsibility for raising their children. If your babies mommas are all on welfare while you are wearing $200.00 sneakers or your rims are spinning, your priorities are fucked. If your children need to look to BET or MTV to figure out how to be a man or to figure out how a woman should be treated then you are not doing your job.

Trying to keep our “dirty laundry” out of the public eye is killing us as a people. I applaud Mr. Cosby for having the guts to stand up and speak the truth. Racism is still bad, but it used to be much worse, and somehow we had respect for ourselves and each other back in the day.

Folks sacrificed their lives and were murdered for the freedoms we have today, and somehow, there are more of us in prison (unnecessarily); more broken families; millions of black children missing one or more ACTIVE parents; school dropouts, etc., etc. This is not all because of the “white man.” Some of this is by personal choice. Some people like it in the dirt, and work very hard to pull those who are trying to get out back down to their level. Ultimately, we all have a choice to elevate ourselves, rather not even try to get up and then blame someone else.

Our culture has become spiritually and morally deficient, and somebody has got to speak the truth since parents stopped doing their jobs a long time ago. People keep saying, “Bill is just criticizing, but not helping.” WTF is Bill supposed to do? He is just one man pointing out the obvious. People know right from wrong, but don’t want to accept responsibility. Stop having babies if we aren’t financially and emotionally ready for the responsiiblity. When we do have babies, accept responsibility for making sure they are educated, responsible and PRODUCTIVE members of society. Set a positive role model for our children. Stop letting the TV raise our kids, and go to the library and get them books. Stop drinking, cursing, smoking and doing all kinds of other foolishness around our kids. Kids can walk it out, hip roll, rap and can’t hardly speak proper English and do math, which is what they will need to make a living.

Just because one might have been born in the gutter it is not an excuse to stay there. What our parents did or did not do is no excuse for how we CHOOSE to live as adults.

Everyone seems to focus on the messenger and not the message. Sometimes tough love is what’s needed. Back in the day if your parents looked at you a certain way you knew that meant for you to straighten up and act right. These day kids have CPS on speed dial. They don’t believe fire burns until it actually burns them. Can anyone who passes by a group of kids on the street, in the mall, on public transportation or wherever not see a problem? Where I live when school lets out for a specific high school, it’s outrageous. Fights every day, police on every corner, harrassment of shop owners, stealing, and pushing adults and the elderly out of the way to get on the buses first. Once everyone realizes and admits there is a problem, then and only then no matter who the messenger is can we begin to fix this.

I understand everything that they were saying. However I do not agree with everything that they said. I am also offended that he would attack the black community in front of white people. As old as he is, he should know that is exactly what they want us to do. Yes there is no denying that we have serious issues, but instead of bashing why doesnt a man in his position lend a hand. His depiction of black college life led to a 50% increase in enrollment in the early nineties. He is all about education, which is why he has had a Phd Psychologist and contributed himself (as he has a PhD as well) to his tv shows content. PERIOD how the hell can you expect someone to tell you how not to be a neglegent parent, if you have four kids and no resources…QUIT HAVING KIDS. We have got to do better!

I work for the government with wards whose parents abandon them because they would rather smoke crack than take care of their kids. It’s real live out here.
I have seen 4th graders jump another kid after school…cussing and using all kinds of language while stomping a kid in the ground.

Instead of being mad because Bill is putting us on blast we need to be more of a solution than a problem. Take up a cause. Mentor, tutor, take up a cause that will help someone else grow. That is the difference between now and back in the day, back then they didnt just talk about things they actually did them. When was the last time you befriended people in your neighborhood, becuase they were black. When was the last time you helped out person, because they were black? We can talk until we are blue in the face, its not going to change anything. You know why, because subconsciously all this “talking” is only causing us to feed into these stereotypes. Stereotypes such as black people are ghetto, and uneducated. I have NEVER heard a black kid tell another they were acting white for studying, NEVER. October 15, 2007. (This article was originally printed on November 13th, 2006) Last week Bill Cosby settled a lawsuit with a woman claiming to have been sexually assaulted by the comedian. But MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Cosby may have violated other women in the past. We spoke to a woman who claims that the family-values funnyman infected her with herpes.

In an exclusive interview with MediaTakeOut.com, a retired New York City schoolteacher claims to have carried on a brief affair with Bill Cosby. According to the woman, who asked to remain anonymous, she dated Cosby in the early 1970s - while he was married to his wife Camille. The woman tells, “It started out great, we would meet whenever he was in town … we really enjoyed each other.”

But after a few intimate encounters, the woman realized that something was terribly wrong. She tells MediaTakeout.com, “A doctor informed me that I had herpes … it was so embarrassing - you have to understand I was very young and inexperienced.”

When she approached Cosby about infecting her with the incurable disease, the funnyman reportedly flew into a rage. The woman claims, “Bill grabbed me by the shoulders and started shaking me … he called me a slut and told me that I was worthless.” Then, the schoolteacher says, Cosby threw her out of his hotel room.

Over the years, the woman claims to have forgiven Cosby. That was until he started giving controversial speeches that criticized Black families. The woman explained to MediaTakeOut.com, “I heard what Bill was saying and I got sick to my stomach … when I knew him, he was sleeping with every woman in sight - and that was right in front of his ‘loving’ wife.” She went on, “he knows what it means to be a lousy Black man, because he was a dirty dog in his day. But now that he’s old I guess he feels he can talk down to people. I had to expose him for the hypocrite that he is.”

Representatives for Bill Cosby ignored our requests for comment.

BILL COSBY is in more hot water - 11 of his alleged former mistresses have come forward with stories the comic drugged and assaulted them.

Cosby was accused of drugging and molesting basketball player ANDREA CONSTAND in January (05) and her story seems to have tweaked the memories of others the funnyman may have had sexual encounters with.

In newly filed court papers, obtained by US news show CELEBRITY JUSTICE, 11 women claim they were all either drugged or sexually assaulted by Cosby.

What exactly do you want people to do that good parenting, school and church can’t do? I went to visit my brother and his family in the projects a couple of years ago, and was greeted outside his front door by a (roughly) four-year-old girl giving me the finger and saying, “fuck you,” while her mother sat in the window and watched like she was daring me to say something. How can you help people who don’t want to be helped? The baby didn’t know better, but the mother did. My sister had a group of black kids (teen boys and elementary kids) try to steal a trampoline out of her backyard. They tore the trampoline UP trying to get it over her fence, so now her kids can’t use it. She called the police, and reported them (this was after her husband tried talking to the mother), and they, of course, denied it when my sister say them running away. What do you do to help people like this?

You will get SHOT UP trying to say something to somebody else’s child and you know that is the truth. The answer is for people to stop making excuses for why black people can’t do this or that like we are a bunch of dummies, and realize that we are responsible for ourselves. God is capable of saving each and every one of us, yet he leaves us each with FREE WILL to make of our lives what we want. A lot of people are abusing their freedom of thought and choice, and waiting on a savior when the only Savior who can truly save them has already said it is up to you.

Fortunately as well, Bill Cosby (born 1937) had a naturally good image of himself, one that had been carefully instilled by his mother, Anna Pearl Cosby, a domestic worker who read Mark Twain and the Bible to her three sons at night. Cosby, like anyone else, isn’t perfect. However, he is telling the truth. It’s time for us to wake up and save ourselves. As a young black male, I know that there are things that are expected of me and I was taught to break away from the stereotypes and be better than that. Black people have forgotten the importance of education that was embedded in the minds of our parents and grandparents. It’s become uncool to be intelligent and that is a huge problem.

Last night over here we had a programme on tv about Obama and whether the race issues surrounding his campaign as in, will black people vote for him will white people vote for him blah blah blah…

They focused on a black woman who lived in one of those Southern states, (forgive me I can’t remember which one.) She had 8 children, and no mention of a father, she worked in a fast food restaurant and was basically blaming the government for the fact that she couldn’t really spend enough time to raise the children, be there to help them with their homework, chastise them and so forth and so forth.

I’ll get to my point, her oldest son seemed very sweet, softspoken and responsible, he was falling behind in his studies to the point where he was in a class for those with learnign difficulties, and couldn’t go to school full time because he had to help out with his mother’s other 7 children.. The emphasis was that the government weren’t helping them and they were victims of circumstance and society.

Nobody did shit to them apart from that no good fucking mother he had.. She did it to him.. it was because she couldn’t keep her fucking legs closed and upright enough (ie not on her back) to not be bringing 8 kids into a fucking world where she will not be able to cater fo them.. her oldest child didn’t have a chance in hell at a life, because he’s too busy helping her in the shit she put them both in..

Like I said, he has made some valid points, and they have made some very substantial contributions to Black Colleges and Universities and continue to support education - but the people who need the most help, are not in college, they don’t even aspire to be in college - or even graduate high school. Students at Spelman, Morehouse and Temple are well on their way, they are typically not the people that he is criticizing.

Many of the people he’s talking about don’t have ANY family member who has ever attended college - and many never graduated high school. They are living a vicious cycle. A child growing up in that is still a child - they can’t generally expand beyond their environment. Back in the day, you had teachers that would help them to understand that there were better options, and they would show them another way - but because of the pitiful salaries and value this country puts on teaching and education, many of those good teachers have to leave the profession for better paying jobs so that they can afford to put their children through college.

Many of these children were born of children themselves - and somehow along the way when these children started having children… they were “abandoned”. When these little girls got pregnant, their families and communities started to treat them like they were grown and responsible — they were neither. They were left to their own devices to raise a child, and a child raising a child, can only raise them to their level. Like Bernie Mac said, there are no more “Big Mamas” - grandmothers who helped raise and instill values in not only their children, but all of the children in the family and the neighborhood. Now grandmothers are 30, 35 years old, and have never had any values instilled in them — what do they have to offer their children or grandchildren? Only what they know -

It’s a vicious cycle - I wish I had some answers, and could offer some solutions. But I am taking responsibility for all of mine, and we really believe it takes and village. It’s how my parents raised us - you are your brother’s and sister’s and cousin’s and family and friends keeper.

Bill Cosby is absolutely not perfect. I know for a fact that he is a dirty dog but he has a very powerful voice. He has been at the top of the entertainment world for decades and that is the number one thing people pay attention to….entertainment. So he is in a position to speak on all that he is speaking on.

As I read over these post, I see alot of people bring up the fact that Bill donates alot of money to colleges. Donating money to colleges is fine, I am a junior at A&T myself. But what aboout the kids who never make it to college? Alot of the time when we have the discussions the people who really need to recieve the message arent getting it. The next thing I would like to address is the fact that we do need help. There was a post made about we are not the only people to come into this country poor, we need to get over it. Whoever posted that comment, you are blind. We were freed from slavery with no money and no rights. Blacks were segregated and couldnt even get a decent education. Then came along the whole civil rights movement, and right after the crack epidemic hit. So dont give me that load of crap about how we have had time to catch up, because we havent. Everything I say is from personal experience. I am 23 years old and I am a victim of the crack epidemic, I am also a Public Relations major at an HBCU. Do any of you know what it really feels like to be hopeless? Do any of you know what the talented tenth is? We are suppose to go back for those of us who didnt make it. Please do not forget that besides donating MILLIONS of dollars (not a little cash) Bill Cosby put 1 of the most sucessfull popular entertainments of all time in front of millions op people every week depicting successful, professional black people with a strong sense of family pride. The show also depicted many other black and hispanic professionals. THAT WAS BIG! He then went on to put on a successful television show (the first in my memory) depicting Young Black people going to college and striving to become successul. There were young men and woman light skinned and dark skinned. Nobody else was trying to put those images out there for us to see.
Before that most of the images of black folks on TV were cooning, jiving or animalistic.

Yes, I did bring up relevance. But who are they relevent to? Kanye is almost 30 years old. Ok and sure they show re-runs on tv, but kids who were not raised in the 80’s do not watch it. I’m sorry. let me clarify. I didn’t mean to say that showing these shows from the ’80’s was an answer to any problems. I only brought them up in response to people who were saying that Bill Cosby is all talk and no action or that all he willing to do is to donate a few dollars.

The creation of these shows was BIG in terms of cultural relevance. Enrollment in black colleges rose significantly during the run of “A Different World”. If he never does anything else in life - that was significant!

He has also personally donated MILLIONS of dollars to several organizations including black colleges. His foundation in his son’s name is equally active. You can say what you want about his personal behavior but you can’t say he doesn’t put his money where his mouth is.

In newly filed court papers, obtained by US news show CELEBRITY JUSTICE, 11 women claim they were all either drugged or sexually assaultsby.

Bill Cosby can talk all day, he needs to put his money where his mouth is, Period. My grandmother went to school (elementary) and he has always been (in her words rip, silly.) #124 To whom are you speaking of when you make the comment we had morally good people to lead? First, one should examine history. Prostitutes became saved and helped Jesus. Second, during the Civil Rights era MLK and Malcolm X had distorted pasts (drugs, prison, adultery in marriage) that did not deter them from becoming the God-fearing leaders they became. Third, the “black leaders” of today Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, BIll, Oprah, among others all had a past and they learned from it and moved on instead of continuing the cycle (i.e. T.I)! Don’t get trapped!

In order to help someone else in the black community you need the following: God, a past struggle so that you can relate and/or empathize then share your story, money, and the will/desire to help those who can’t see outside of their environment. Be mentor’s, Be youth leaders, create committed families, teach your children about education and owning businesses/real estate to create wealth. Shut off the derogratory rap music and listen to Talib, Jill Scott, Ledisi or others who speak words of peace and love. Just stop living the stereotypes the “man” wants us to become.

All I have to say is in reading the comments about T.I.’s arrest, too many people were declaring “SET UP!!” and asking why the bodyguard didn’t keep his mouth shut, instead of acknowledging the foolishness of the coontabulous behavior displayed. When watching TV and / or listening to the major radio stations in your area; you will see and hear nothing but negative things when it comes to blacks. We put ourselves down so often. For instance - I am a hairstylist who happens to also braid hair in Washington DC.

In 2005, I had 5 teenage boy clients graduating from high school. They all are now in colleges away from the DC area. One boy’s mom died when he was very young. His grandmother struggled to raise him. He lives in a poor community, but he is doing well in college. Another boy in a poor neighborhood is in college. He struggled to get out of high school, but made it to college. He and his girlfriend attend the same college…away from home, and he is doing well. Another one of my clients has always been an A student. He is currently on an academic scholarship, and doing well. I have a flashy dressing client that have brothers who hang out on the streets, be he is away in college and doing well…

I can give you more success stories about poor black boys and girls, but I only want to make the point that if you only show and speak on the negativity; you will never know there is a positive side.

The fact is that parents, people who lay down and make a conscious decision to have children, are responsible for the upbringing of their children. Bill Cosby met his responsibility in raising his children..even one that turned out NOT to be his! He also has done OODLES for Blacks and frankly all americans. I live in London and what Bill Cosby is saying about us as a people is reflected quite clearly here across the waters. Yes we do have many positive role models within our race however not enough to to illiminate the negative and growing trend of despair and destructive that is taken place especially amongst our youth. Why is it that we as a people are always at the bottom of the ‘human chain’. In our schools over here young black boys are the under achievers. Why. Why is it also that we have more black men occupying and seemingly taking continuous residence in ‘Her Majesty’s’ jail cells. Why is it also that we are the larger group of unwed mothers. Why is it that when my children are being taught in schools the black adult faces that they are seeing is in the canteen serving them meals. Why is it that on the buses coming home the young black boys and girls are the ones cussing, meking pure noise and behaving like dem nah being raised but being dragged up in some gutter. Why is it that for this year alone approx 20 out of the young people killed by either gun shots or stabbings has been black and gang related. Why is it that I see so many young black girls just finished school not aspiring to attend a college and seek some form of profession or career but pushing a pram, wearing the lastest garms, the nicest hairstyles, x amount of jewellery,make up etc but can just about string two words together properly. Why is it that my hand is in my mouth each day I send my son to school hoping that some fool out there aint going to want to ‘jack him up’. Why is it that the Asians, Indians, Chinese all have business whether it be the local corner stores, the take away food shops, the small retail outlets and we don’t. Why is it that we do not own conglomorants, banks, industries et etc etc. Why is it that when we do manage to maintain a business that we cannot run our businesses professionally, expand and create more opportunity. Why is it that even if we go over to the carribean the same mentally that you mention over in the states, which I mention is taking place here in England is also the norm there too. To have some self discipline and respect for himself and once he learns that, then he in turn would know how to respect others. I know I am ranting and raving and I’m sorry guys but we really have a serious epidemic going on within our black race nation and worldwide and we seriously have to start putting into place some action before this generation coming up completely destroys itself more than it is already. We need to turn to God for our source, we need to put faith back into our lives, we need to stop chasing the world’s materialism and we need to make a stand and turn our situtations around, because we are STILL ENSLAVED, we are STILL CAPTIVED, and we are STILL BOUND AND OUR SLAVE MASTER IS THE SYSTEM. God’s peace, grace and blessings be amongst you all.

What’s interesting is that people are offended by his aggressive tone; however, how often are people offended by the tones we hear everyday in society? He is being aggressive because that is how you get a response. If you have ever watched the Tupac interview about how you have to use force. Initially you start out with “May I have some food” until you get ignored enough and it becomes “GIVE ME SOME FOOD!”. That is what he is doing. I’m an educator and I’m 24 and I see African Americans not care about education at all. They know every song and every new dance but refuse to write an essay and read a book. Let me give you an example: the district I work in just recieved test scores and African American students did as well as the students with mental disabilities. Asian and white students scored around 70-80s while African American students scored around 30-40! Now you tell me something is not wrong with our Black communities.

While we are ranting, just a couple of questions:

1. Do you think that the corporations (run by white men) that control all the worlds most valuable resources (and therefore the wealth) just sit around and “hope” that every thing will be alright and they will get to keep their wealth? or do you think they are planning and putting into motion measures to make sure the maintain their wealth?

2. Do you think that it is a coincidence that there is steady stream of negative crap forced down our throat by organized (white owned) mass media. That it just happens to be wrapped in the seductive packaging of fast money with no work (rappers, ballers, video Hofessionals, “models”) and no need to go to school.

3. You do know that almost all music you hear is dictated by white owned record labels, white A&R execs, White owned distribution channels (Walmart, BestBuy, Itunes), white owned radio and video television stations? White owned magazines and newspapers. That video concepts must get the ok by white folks ( many times the directors are white). White folks decide what will and will not get promoted. Oh, and white folks control the money. with just enough black faces sprinkled in so that they can point to them if anybody says shit.

4. Isn’t funny how our public school system for the most part is shit. How they can make sure that every piece of fruit that enters this country is inspected and labeled, but they just can’t seem to control the tidal wave of crack and herion from entering our neighborhoods. (how did that shit get introduced into our neighborhoods in such volume from the other side of the fucking world…white folks ain’t have nothing to do with that right?)

5. Do you think that the current state of Black people in America is just a coincidence or do you think there was some planning and social engineering going on? (marketing is a science taught at harvard, yale and all those ivy league schools. they can market anything they want to anybody they want.)

Audrice you keep replying to my post, but are still missing my point. I apologize if you thought that my words were harsh, I am just very strong minded. I do not want to point fingers at Bill, I have just lost respect for him period. I am just sooo tired of hearing people talk all this crap but take no action. Dont get me wrong donating money to colleges is a big deal, but not that big of a deal for him to act the way he does. Like I said before we as a people have alot of problems, but all his talking isnt doing anything. You were also right when you said it starts at home we do agree on that. The thing that everyone seems to be forgetting is that everyone does not have a proper home. I know you may think that isnt your problem, but that is the problem. I come from a home that was drastically effected by the crack epidemic. Do you know how many times I have almost fell victim to the streets? The only thing that saved me, was knowing that people outside of my family cared. It wasnt there responsibilty to do anything for me, but they did. I also know many other people who were helped and encouraged by people who were not there parents. People who came from nothing and now live very productive lives. My heart goes out to everyone in the struggle because I have been there. Do you honestly think people want to sell drugs because they dont. Do you think people want to be uneducated, because they dont. People do what they have to, to survive. I just feel personally it is my responsiblity to do for others what was done for me. Bill is so out of touch with what is really going on in the community, and obviously so are you. I use to be embarrassed by my situation, but I have learned to appreciate it. How I grew up helped me to see the world for what it really is and I thank God for that, so I do not have to walk around here blind. So when I say help that is what I mean, we need love and guidance, instead of stereotyping us in front of white America. If you still disagree with me than that is your lose. Oh and before I forget, I have been called white many times, but NEVER because I wanted to study that is a load of crap. So go ahead and keep agreeing with Mr. Bill and portraying the image that blacks like being poor and uneducated. When in reality they are content because they do not know any better.

Dutchess I get your point. I am not blind nor any of the other things you have said about me. If you read my post you will see that I too have grown up with an addicted parent. The point is that there is not a 1 to 1 ratio for those in need in relation to those who will help. So it has to start at home and if not with parents than extended family and thus and so. Your situation isn’t unique. and to answer your question YES there are people that want to sell drugs cause they think its cool and that it shows that they are down. That is why people including Bill take issue with the images portrayed by the media and the rappers that partake in the coonery. Without going down that road fully I will again say your story isn’t unique..trust and believe so you dont have some unique perspective that someone else doesn’t share. Solutions are what we are looking for so don’t get so offended, if you are a PR major realize that often people may not share your vision or openly agree with you, still put your best face forward. You have eluded to being under 25 and quite uninformed historically. I say that because Cos has done alot, money is only part of it but you should have looked that up before attacking so aggresively. At the end of the day if you are about helping do your thing. I mentor young kids cause they need positive role models IN ADDITION to parents. I am also the parent of three young black men in training so i am not just spouting off. I realize that it takes WORK to raise kids and INVOLVEMENT in their education. Often we’re looked at in my kids school as if they don’t expect to see us involved. There is a reason for this! But I digress. Do your thing. I watched this in my African American Studies class…..I have mixed issues with Bill Cosby but not so much with him in this particular episode of Meet The Press…… the only things I didn’t so much agree with was how it seems like he thinks Rap and the culture of the sub-genre brings so many ills and troubles to the black community instead more than lack of better education and not so pristine parenting. I’ve been listening to rap since I could walk and been exposed to everything you can imagine but I was raised decent enough to not fall into the trap or images of the stuff I saw on tv or heard in the music because I knew better. He said something about women’s liberation too or w/e but I don’t exactly remember. And the part where he mentioned shakedowns well I agree with keeping up on your children and keeping a heavy and close eye on what they are into, listening to, reading that could be dangerous (depends on the parent) but shakedowns like I’m thinking of how prison guards go through the convicts sh-t lol….pretty extreme. Most of the whole episode though I was mostly shaking my head…..wasn’t bad at all……he’s definitely right at saying the revolution basically starts in the home.

If Bill Cosby were 40 years younger, the white man would mark him for death. The white man will allow him to rant because he knows that the masses of people will not listen.
