Lol ok. i dont think I was trying to “read into it” I simply stated from the get go, that i didnt fully understand the story line. But thats as far as my questioning went.
Name of the song “I Want You” by a handsome sexy Black man – how many concepts can it be? LOL! But okay I digress…
Storyline:
Break up, get a new girl, kinda still got love for old girl, but new girl is sexy, old girl comes back, but damn new girl is fine too. Old girl ain’t coming back though, new girl is sexy as hell so man can’t lose either way…lol

I got the video. Seems like Common is throwing a dinner party with his friends and introducing his new lady. See how she shakes everyones hand like she doesn’t know them that well. Yet, its Commons home so he knows them. Then he sees Kerry crazy deranged ass sneaking into the house! So he goes to investigate while thinking about what they had. Alicia is downstairs wondering where he has gone, you can see she is a little uncomfortable when she sits on the couch with some people that she doesn’t really know while wondering…where the hell did he go. So she goes looking. While Kerry and Common get into it over the video of them. Very good video in the end they both know “the love was strong but it is long gone”. Kerry leaves Alicia finds Common and it’s a wrap! Kerry is doing her thing behind and in front of the camera! I need someone in Hollywood to see the chemistry Alicia and Common have and get a good script together!

His crib seems to be an expensive, cool, spacious, urban condo of some sort (Once again obviously not his real crib but I’d image this is very similar) He may not be literally throwing money at the camera but if you look it is obviously as flossy any eye candy image video. The crib, the suit, the watch , the champagne, technology, etc. Having a good time at the party, Alicia very flirty and obviously very happy to see common, There’s a camera shot where she says something funny or cracks a joke and you can see Common burst out laughing-showing in turn he enjoys her and her company just as much if not more than she seems taken with him in the first shot. The chemistry With alicia keys……We all see it!! Whether they are just friends, friends with benefits, or just simply vibe there is no denying the chemistry—who seen smoking aces…..I rest my case. Anyway we clearly see the hurt,scorned (maybe), teary, depressed and angry Kerry washington. Which is also a story and shame and in itself because there is nothing worse or more heart wrenching than watching a beautiful woman cry. (ask ya man or a lesbian) I’d imagine she’s sad, hurt, and just wants some sort of closure. Common thinks she on the other floor(just showing how big his place is ). He Finds her she starts to trip like he’s in the wrong does a damn-near back flip to get the dvd. Wigs out when Common tries to talk to her and rolls out downstairs and out the crib with her little momento. Alicia starts looking for her Cat-daddy because he’s who she came to see not Kanye. She seems him and senses he needs some embrace type love that women seem to know you need. His face is all sour stoic at the end though because another beautiful woman he apparently still cares for(if maybe no longer in that way) fucked up his mood. Somebody mentioned she was supposed to look dark,black clothes, dark make up ,tears, etc that was a good observation. All I’m saying in this I’m high on chronic rant is this Kerry Washing made a dope video at the very least an interesting one and people should respect that.

Loved it! This video is a beautiful work or art, Ms. Washington has a wonderful directing career in front of her. For those who don’t think it was well done, go rent a few award-winning independent and/or foreign films and get an understanding of cinematic art. Expand your horizons, people…this is a great video!

It was nice. Cool song. Nice to have a different vibe to a rap video. Kerry and Common have great screen presence individually and hot chemistry together. It wasn’t a cinematic masterpiece, but is was a nice break from the norm.

Kerry Washington did a great job with the vid. I’m so proud of her. More black women should be directing music video’s anyway. Maybe then we would see more that T & A on our screens. I think the whole point of the song and the video is for it to be interpretive. If you think about it… Common could be confused, as most people are when they are no longer involved with someone they share ‘memories’ with. He was from a outsiders perspective moving on (hence Alicia and company at a couple’s dinner party) while secretly holding on to memories from the past relationship. Kerry Washington’s character needed what some of us women call ‘closure’ by geting her stuff that she believes she’s entitled to and also test him to see if he would give her any type of sign that their break up was a mistake. Alicia having women’s intuition, senses something ain’t right and goes to look for her man. At the end, although KW is walking away, and he’s watching as she struts across the street, they are both contemplating whether the break up was a good idea but decides to not wake a sleeping giant…. Ta Da.. that is my interpretation… loose one at least…

Wow…that video by Common was pretty tight. I LOVE the way that he made it almost like a movie more than the typical music video, but then again he kinda did the same thing with his ‘Testify’ video and that was tight too. So keep puttin out the hotness Common, and I’m sure everybody will keep watchin and listening.

Common is one of the most lyrical artist in the rap game that has been ignored for a long time, his season has arrived. I loved this video and the way it actually tells the story of this song. Keep it coming Common.

okay, what did karri say to common when he tried to grab the dvd from her? she said something that just shocked his world? his character literally let her walk out the place with the dvd in hand? he even covered his mouth in awe over it. what do you all think she said?
this video took me a while to understand also. it is hard to tell who the girl in the video is and the fact he is singing about someone who he will always love and held so close to his heart, yet the video makes her look like a psycho. i realized he is singing about how great she kerry was, yet they broke up for the better. he now has a new girlfriend, but isnt into her like he was with the ex.
she goes to his place to get the video they made having sex, since she didn’t want him having it since it’s over. she sneeked in because he is not giving the video up. he sees shes there, and it shows before he goes into the room, he is thinking of the video and he knows shes gonna take it. he is holding on to it because its all he has left of her. she takes it and leaves. he realizes she just took the last thing he had to remind him of her, then alicia comes and sees her leaving, and she smiles because she knows the video is finally gone, and she knew all along common was still in love with his ex. alicia is his comfort chick pretty much. this was a great video, and it finally makes sense haha
