In 1991, 2 young white teen girls went missing after visiting the abandoned Chain of Rocks Bridge in St. Louis MO, with their cousin. The cousin told the police an impossible tale: that the girls had been pushed from the bridge, but he was ordered to jump by an unknown assailant and survived the nearly 80-foot fall into strong currents with no injuries and dry hair. The police were naturally skeptical of his account, within hours, he confessed to killing the girls.
Yet this man, who is white, has never spent a day in jail. Instead, the police arrested four local youths who were also on the bridge that night. Three of the young men, all African-American, received the death sentence. The fourth young man, who is white, received a 30-year sentence and was eligible for parole and has been released.
Reggie Clemons is one of the youths that received the death sentence, even though prosecutors conceded that Reggie neither pushed the women nor planned their deaths. The prosecutor simply theorized that Reggie was an “accomplice” even though there is no physical evidence linking Reggie to the crime for which he received the death penalty: no fingerprints, no DNA, no hair or fiber samples. Estelle is going to be big, I’ve seen her live in concert twice, she does have that “Lauryn Hill” vibe yet she has her own signature too. This video was inspired by the Audrey Hepburn movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”, Audrey Hepburn is one of Estelle’s idols so she is paying homage to her in this video, that’s probably why some didn’t get the video. Can’t wait for her album to drop!

Sorry song sounds like it could work for a Jingle in a commercial for spray starch or deorderant. Song is catchy but nothing unique. This may be good for the British market but it would not make the cut hear in the states. I see John’s vision for her but she has got to come with a bit more if he plan to market her here! I think he is trying to get that old 7o=0’s feel with her but I do not see it with ther yet! Like the prior person mentioned only Lauren Hill could really pull that off!

She should re-release 1980…or at least include it on her new album. And “Free”.

The only thing special about this song is the fact that it was produced by will.i.am and it doesn’t sound like utter garbage. He hasn’t put out anything worth listening since before BEP went mainstream.

I want to like her but I can’t — I just can’t picture this crossing over.. we already have had Lauryn Hill so its like who can top that?! No one. I heard some quote where John Legend says Estelle is the next Amy Winehouse.. not really Amy doesn’t rap and her sound is totally different. I am not down for Estelle and I don’t think the US will take to her. I didn’t dig the video either - even if it was an ode to Breakfast At Tiffany’s — that isn’t clear and it just is very mediocre.

Whether or not you like the single, homegirl got a swag about her that you rarely see in females who mc. I now she gonna get comparisons to Floetry, but those two were boring to me and there is something Fresh about her. She got a Lauryn vibe, she ain’t at Miseducation level yet, but its possible. To the folk saying there are people out that are like her or better, please name these individuals out, because i follow music and i’m not seeing them.
