I think we all know someone with drug issues. That addiction ain’t no joke. I’ve seen families torn apart because of it. They’re going on my prayer list.

How sad was that to see that tear fall from his eye! Wish I could give him a hug. I will definitely be praying for him to be strong and for his moms to kick this addiction. She’s still a young woman and has so many more years ahead of her, if she wants it. He’s one of my favorite artists.

It’s hard to love someone with an addiction to anything…and its even hard to harder to talk about it with other people so for mario to do this respect him a million times more. Im going to make sure that i watch this and i cant wait for his album.

He’s a smart and sensible young man. Hope his mother realises what she is doing to her kid and do the necessary thing.

Wow. Now that’s real life. His mother is right, only she can control when she’s ready to no longer be a drug user. My prayers go out to him for the strength, courage and ability to come out of this ordeal successful. It’s a tough job trying to balance loving someone when they don’t love themselves enough to not abuse their body, mind & spirit. He mentioned his struggle with his mom in an old Sister 2 Sister magazine kinda when he first came out, but at that time I beleive she was cleaning herself up. I guess not. Its so sad.

I have tears in my eyes watching this because I’m going through the exact same thing with my mother. I know what it’s like to want to move on with your life and be happy but in the back of your mind you’re waiting on a phone call saying your mom has overdosed or has been arrested. I’ve had money stolen and checks stolen, and been told every lie and sad story there is to get money from me.

Fortunately I’ve moved away and am trying to move on with on with my life but is very hard because even with everything that has happened, that’s still my mother.

^^^You sound dumb as hell. Dont get me wrong, I do believe that addicts are the most selfish ppl in the world and I do not feel sorry for her. Rehab is not jail. You cannot make someone go to rehab. They have to want to go, and they have to want to stay. I have a friend whos sister was on drugs. After years of trying to help her she cut her off to save her sanity. Her sister ended up dead at the hands of probably another drug addict(police said)who raped her first. She had been living on the streets. My friend still blames herself. It is not easy to just cut off a friend, or sibling. I can’t imagine trying to cut off your mother. I will pray that his mother will find her way even if I’m only praying for the sake of her son.

Yeah, i saw this on MTO. It was so sad. At least he’s being strong. But I am still so sad about this issue happening to his mom. She not only needs help, but she needs lots of prayers and support. So does Mario. It’s so sad that he had to grow up so quick. He couldn’t really enjoy his childhood b/c of this.

Unfortunately, most of us can relate to what Mario is going through. My mother is on drugs and so is my older brother. It’s really heartbreaking to watch people break down from being on top of the world to being at their lowest low. I am still in denial about my brother. I would have never thought it could happen to him. Anyway, my mom has been on drugs since before I can remember. At the age of 17 my twin and I ended up raising my lil sis. We are all fine now. I am getting my Masters’, my twin is married, my lil sis is in college and working. At some point Mario is gonna learn you have to cut the cord. She doesn’t want help, so there is nothing you can do. Show her some tough love and move on to save your sanity. We Gotta Make it Work.

I used to feel sorry about her situation and even cried about it, but I realized that I can’t worry about what she’s doing becuase it will get in the way of what I am trying to acomplish in life. Every since I let my mom go emotionally I have never been better. I graduated from a top university (Duke) and I also have a great career!!! The only thing Mario can do is let his mom “do her”. At the end of the day she’s going to stop when she wants to and if he allows her situation to be heavy on his heart he will never be happy… The only way he will be happy is if she truly kicks her habit or dies… My mom has been off the ish for 5yrs but she gets her high in other ways (prescription drugs)… once a druggie always a druggie… I am not saying disown your mom but keep her at a distance.. out of sight out of mind….

wow - that’s deep…but it’s something that so many of us deal with on a daily basis. Whether the drug is cocaine, alcohol or marijuana…when someone in your family is addicted it affects you.

Big ups to Mario for showing that despite all the fame and fortune, these stars deal with regular everyday stuff just like the rest of us. So many of our young people idolize and want to immulate what they see on stage, and I often wonder if they could really handle it if they knew what these stars’ lives were really like once they stepped off the stage. They compromise themselves continually, and yes, they deal with stuff that everybody else does, and it’s probably worse because they are in the public eye.

I am a fan of Mario’s music and his talent, but this simple clip makes me RESPECT and ADMIRE him as a man.

For all of you saying how selfish Mario’s mom is, and how she doesn’t care about him, only loves drugs, etc…you guys have obviously dealt with someone close to you with an addiction. And are really young and inexperienced with life. Wow.

I don’t think it’s a matter of choosing between those you love and the drug - the drug chooses you - addiction is physiological and psychological - it effects the mind and the body. And it’s not so easy to shake. Both of my parents were addicts - one an alocoholic and one on drugs - all of my life. And the funny thing is, I never, ever doubted that they loved me, or that they loved the liquor and the drugs more than me.

Fighting addiction is a battle that, just like Mario’s mom said, first starts with the addict choosing to get clean. I’m sure she’s probably tried several times to get clean for Mario’s sake, but until she does it for her own sake, it will not stick. My mother has been sober 17 years, but will tell you that everyday is a battle, and that she will always be an alcoholic. My dad died clean and sober, but the wear and tear that prolonged drug abuse caused on his body led to a stroke and a very unexpected death.

As the child of an addict, you always ask yourself 2 questions - is it my fault, and how can I fix it? You grow up a little bit when you realize you can’t fix it. You then realize that you have to heal yourself so that you can move on with your life.

It is obvious from this video that Mario loves his mother. Going public with it in this way may be what he needs to begin to heal. It’s a very personal and private matter to go public with, and he should be commended for that.

Wow reading all of these comments has somewhat helped me. My bro is battling an addiction and it is VERY VERY hard on the family. U get angry, then sad and u want to disown them but when u are living it, it is very hard to turn away. For those of you that do not have this situation happening to a family member or even a close personal friend thank God! He has really blessed you and yours. I still thank God for my bro and my life becuase as strange as it sounds things could still be worse. Anyways I will pray for Mario because I really now what its like to be in that situation. And I commend him for being candid- often family members are ashamed of this situation in their family (I often have this feeling myself about my bro).

On a another note:
You do/must eventually give the person you love ( addict ) tough love, even if it means letting them walk the streets, getting arrested, kicking them out or not having any contact with them. It is truly up to them to get the help they need..they have to be READY and the awful fact is that some people are never ready. In saying that, no matter what kind of tough love you give the addict in your life.- YOU WILL NEVER,EVER STOP THINKING ABOUT THEM OR WORRYING ABOUT THEM..it’s IMPOSSIBLE. Addicts are selfish people but that’s not who they really are..it’s just the drugs that turn them into a Monster. … TRUST I KNOW.

I have read all the comments that people have sent alot of them judgemental. Some of them may be true. I dont think he intentually ment to use this as a sales tacted and I can see how that conception could come about. However his mother has a serious problem. No reality show nor the love & devotion of her her son is going to help her she needs a whole loft more than that. She hates her self and is on a sucide mission. She Needs the Lord, deep therapy and needs to learn to love her self first before you can get any progress. Remove her from her enviorment not meaning rehab. Mario needs to take some time out and deal with this personally and privately or wash his hands of it totally if he chooses to remain sain. The two of U cant do it yourself. Remove as many resources as u can. She is going to hate u. But @ the end she will love u and herself. Dont put this on tv . If u have kids They dont need to no this about their grandmother. Its ok to keep your suppotive friends updated of your possitive progress. Then once u fix your own family problems u and yr mother should help others.
