The premiere for the anticipated film “American Gangster” took place over the weekend, and while many stars at the premiere did what they could in the wardrobe department – rappers Common and Jay-Z stood out among the fellas. Both were there for their contributions to the movie – Common starring in the film and Jay doing his music thing based off of it.
Jay-Z opted for a classic black three piece suit while Common added more of variety to his look topped with a black velvet blazer. So I ask you, which is more GQ?

Both gentlemen look nice, but the winner is…Common.
Jay-Z ‘s 3 piece ensemble is a sophisticated conservative look, but Common’s velvet blazer just adds that extra personality and individualism to his look. I’m so glad to see these men dressing like men instead of men that seem to be in a mid life crisis wearing baggy jeans and medallions heavier than a gallon of milk.
P.S. Common better watch himself, looking like all types of deliciousness. Get your shine on, you deserve it!
I’m not making my decision on who looks better between the two, my decision is based on which outfit I’d more prefer to wear. I gotta give my vote to Jay. That suit is hot. I’d rock the hell outta that. I can’t really get with the velvet jacket thing. I’d feel like Morris Day if I had that on.

Jay looks the opposite of “GQ” because he went for the “Classic” look, which incidentally and I’m sure intentionally on his part, makes him look like the old man he is. Jay’s look is classic and kind of makes him look like he is ready for the executive boardroom. Should have been a bit more modern and streamlined to give him a thinner look. Common – I don’t know – I am not too keen on mis- match suits for any occasion and I believe that its difficult for a man to choose such an ensemble. Common’s jacket somehow has the look of someone who has no clothes and and now must find something to wear to an unexpected event – to me just doesn’t fit right. Therefore I’ll have to go for Jay.
