Beyonce had a whole mess of unreleased tracks from her B’Day sessions and Mario has had some trouble with album release dates (Go! has been pushed back a lot since last year), so they both had some leftover tracks and time to mess around in the studio. So, here are two different version of the song “If.” Beyonce’s version is very melodic, and full of drama – from the vocal arrangement, to the production. It reminds of me of something out of a musical, while Mario’s version is more R&B-flavored song (he sings similar lyrics to the Beyonce version, but over Trey Songz’s “Can’t Help But Wait” track).
Even though they are two completely different takes on the song, you know we have to ask the question… who sang it better? Did Beyonce kill it, or did Mario do the song justice?
Im going to go with Beyonce. Her version is much more dramatic. Like u could actually see a video with her version. Nothing against Mario’s version, but I think that type of song cant be sung over such a “dance pop” beat.

Mario’s sounds empty like something is missing. I don’t like when Beyonce’s goes to the chorus and begins to sound all contemporary. I like neither. It’s a draw.
Mario Killed It Hands Downs! Bey makes the song seem depressing and Mario brings life in the song.

Judging by the votes Beyonce won this by a manslide. Everybody had this ish in their ipod wayyy before Mario tried to sing it. B murdered Mario on this track and i love Mario but B puts feeling behind her lyrics…plus it was hard to hear Mario’s version with the background track being “can’t help but wait” by trey songz all i kept hearing was that and that song fits that track betta anyways….okay those are my long drawn out thoughts but just incase there’s any question B’s version definately won hands down

hmm after thinking it was just cuz im used to the lyrics of trey songz take on this beat that i like his better …. im thinking thats not the reason.. Trey’s lyrics flow better on this track it just fits like a glove in my opinion.

B is so dramatic…I can see the video instantly when listening to a Beyonce track because her performance really paints the picture in my head…great vocal! I Love Beyonce’s Voice there’s a beauty in it, but Mario he just takes my heart and run when he sings. Both version are good, its a good song hands down.
Ok I went back and listened to both versions of the song. I actually like Mario’s because he letting the song be the importance, and sometimes you have to do that. He’s not all yelling and screaming through the song he is actually singing the feeling of the song, and to me the song doesnt need any more vocal then what he gave. I love it Mario!
