ALICIA KEYS’ AS I AM

Wednesday, November 7, 2007

aalbumcover.jpg

♫ Alicia Keys - Like You’ll Never See Me Again

Although Alicia Keys has always given me great singles on previous albums, I am absolutely loving her this time around. From her image, to her material, I think that she’s doing what it do on her third studio album, As I Am. Her soulful sound and glam look are a great combination. Ever since her promo pictures were released earlier over the summer, I knew that Alicia Keys was going for something different and matured her look. And even though it took a while for the powerful single, “No One,” to grow on me, it finally has, and I’m loving it.

♫ Alicia Keys - Lesson Learned

There really aren’t any uptempo tracks to be spoken about on Alicia’s new album, but it still rocks for me. This time around, I think Alicia has really put out a solid project with some good material. Stand out tracks include the two singles, “No One,” “Like You’ll Never See Me Again,” “Go Ahead,” and one of my personal favorites, “Thing About Love.”

It is improvement over her other albums…the writing is good, not to sure about the singing. There is a way too much screaming and vocal strain going on

What do you mean, “This time around, I think Alicia has really put out a solid project with some good material.” Are her other projects not solid in your opinion? If that’s what you mean ::flavor flav voice:: woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!

I love every single one of Alicia’s albums. From Songs in A Minor to Unplugged but this one takes the cake for me. She really delivered. Her collaborations are sick! Linda Perry and John Mayer really lend a great sound to this album. There are no generic, for-the-moment trends in the production. This is an album you will listen to years from now and it’ll still evoke the same emotion and you won’t have to be embarrassed playing it because you won’t have the “producer of the moment sound is played out” problem. If you want an album you’re gonna bump in the car before the club, dance your ass off to, help you find a new dance, help you find what to drink or where because there so much damn name dropping going on, THIS ALBUM IS NOT FOR YOU! But if you want real, passionate, honest, GOOD MUSIC, pick this album up!

The 2 songs posted up are among my favorites.

I listened to entire album over at The Leak on MTV and I must say that it is one of the best I have heard this year. The r&b love is so good. Chrisete, Jill, Keyshia - now Alicia - I really do love it.

Alicia has touch on something that has been missing! She has some mid tempo joint like “Go Ahead” but other than that it has a solid soul and jazzy feel to it! I love it! I love “Go Ahead”, “Lesson Learned”, “Thing About Love” and “Like You’ll Never See Me Again” - but I listened to the entire CD and I did not want to skip ahead on any tracks!

She def is getting my money come Nov 13th!

I swear Alicia is the truth. She is everything from Stevie Wonder to Gladys Knight, to Aretha Franklin to Sarah Vaughn to Nina Simone to Prince with a lil’ Nikki Giovanni thrown in along with the beauty of Lena Horne. Can’t wait for the album to drop, I think it will be her best work yet.

yeah i think people are real stupid. alicia has always been hot..her first album showed the depressing side of life, the 2nd showed her romantic side of life..and this album is going to show the after effects of love that hurts….she may strain at times but who doesn’t..no one is perfect not even beyonce! ha i said it….but on da real tip alicia has upped her writing skills………

WOW. I’m not really an Alicia Keys fan. I’ve enjoyed some of her songs but I mostly find her voice to sound incredibly strained and annoying. “No one” has been a torture to listen to because it’s exactly the kind of straining that has made her more of a nuisance than a respectable artist in my book. BUT WOW! I love this song, it’s absolutely incredible, heart-felt, it was beautiful and such a refreshing love song. She has seriously outdone herself and her contemporaries with this one. “Like you’ll never see me again” is so rich with feeling - I really love it.

And i agree with SLIMTING, I always like her lyrics too which would make you think that she could be a poet but her poetry book is AWFUL. It’s so awful I was actually shocked she had the audacity to publish it and call that corny, semi-tribute to Dr. Seuss ala romance poetry. She should definitely stick to lyric writing, it’s definitely her forte.

Love Alicia, but I have to hear at least 2 more songs before I buy the CD, she kinda sounds like she’s straining sometimes and that’a a little irratating. Her vocals on “Like You’ll Never See Me Again” leave much to be desired. Halfway through I wanted to turn it off.

I love this song and No One, but the rest of the album is garbage. I was surprised because Alicia always comes with it, I still listen to her first two albums regularly. But I just couldn’t get into this one and won’t be purchasing it.

Did I miss something? Are you guys being paid? That cd is boring as hell. It’s another tired retread from a girl who not an ounce of originality in her. Don’t believe me…listen to “No One” then listen to the Black Eyed Peas’ “Where is the Love.” It’s the same damn song. I’m sick of this hack being lauded as a “real” artist when all she does is jack songs from better songwriters.

watch out for Wreckless Love. it is……………man. no words for it right now.
to be honest with you, listening to this album, makes me feel like i’m sitting in on a private jam session. that’s the vibe i get. very laidback….very natural….and personal. even though this may be a studio album, it surely doesn’t feel like it.

alicia………….don’t know how you did it again……but congratulations on an AMAZING album.

I am purchasing this CD come 11/13 with no hesitation! I haven’t listened to all the songs yet but I went to a show Alicia did in Atlanta last night and let me just say she is AMAZING! Teenage Love Affair is really really a great song it makes you reminisce and has this old school vibe but Alicia makes it fresh. It isn’t on the MTV Leak but she sing it last night. Let me just say Superwoman is about to be the new anthem for women! I can’t wait to bump this CD in my car. The drums on I Need You are crazy then she mellows it out with the piano at the end. Go Ahead is another anthem you can tell Alicia loves that song when she performs it she rocks out big time! Another favorite of mine is Tell You Something (Nanas Reprise) Alicia lost her grandmother during the past year and you can tell that song was written as she was going through that period and it is really touching! Anyone not PURCHASING this CD just ain’t right in the head! LOL

Hands down Alicia Keys is and has been the best female artist in the game since she came out……………wait (puts hand in the air)………….I don’t care what you have to say because I’m telling the truth. Alicia stepped it up this time around, but Diary of Alicia Keys and Songs in A Minor were in no way lackluster. She’s just grown as an artist is supposed to do therefore she’s improved her artistry. And for all of you saying her writing has gotten better……….What are you talking about? Has it not been on point in the past, was she talking about fighting Chrisette Michele at Clive Davis’ Grammy party on her previous album? No! Everything she has EVER put out has been above the competition. All of her works are amazing including unplugged. A .MFN Keys already killed everybody in the year 2007. There is no album that came out this year that is better……….And she will out sell every album that has and will drop this year!!!!!! LELLOW HAS DONE IT AGAIN. KILLIN YALL WITH THE MUSIC!! November 13th it’s going DAOWN!!

“Like you’ll never see me again” is so damn hot. The first time that I heard this song on concrete I fell in l love with it then it was removed. Now it’s back on and I have been playing it out. I can’t wait to her CD comes out. This track is hot!

I don’t know if you going off of that MTV Leak thats missing 2 songs, but there ARE uptempo songs on this album. Go Ahead, Teenage Love Affair, I Need You and Where Do We Go From Here? are all mid to up tempo.

But the whole album in general is amazing! the experimentation with the mic’s, the vocals and the instrumentation is like nothing i’ve heard this year. I remember Alicia saying she was worried people would get her on this album. I get her… and i love it!!!

i agree with the person who said “no one” sounds like “where is the love”. that’s why i can’t get into it. i feel like a lot of her songs have been done before but ppl will eat it up. she’s almost as packaged as the dimwits in the industry (riri and co.) except she’s a really good pianist

62.

Wednesday, November 7, 2007 /

I swear I must agree with you MOSHUN, Ashley, MAIO3, AND MS TANNA!

Anyone judging rather they will buy this album based only on NoOne is cheating themselves and I am just sorry you won’t get to appreciate this album. Listen to the vocals on Superwoman, on Tell You Something. Check out how I Need You is arranged. Did you get the message behind Like You’ll Never See Me and Thing About Love? I for one am an AK fan all the way after getting hooked on Diary like crack I went back and got hooked on her first CD and saw the girl live so it was a wrap for me. Then she had the nerve to do an unplugged CD that made the songs fresh again! I mean really if you have PURCHASED not bootlegged but PURCHASED anything this year and you liked it but you turn around and say As I Am isn’t worth PURCHASING…it just doesn’t add up, it isn’t logical, it makes no sense, it is ludicris, I don’t believe you, you need more people!
