Even though according to Amazon.com, Mya’s album isn’t set for release until December 31, 2020, it’s leaked. Over the past year, Mya has been talking about Liberation and the tracks have been leaking left and right – I wasn’t sure what fresh material she was going to have to put on the album. And it seemed as though everything I was hearing was disappointing. She had a couple of failed singles (her camp attempted to release “Ayo” a while back, then came “Lock U Down,” which featured Lil’ Wayne – that didn’t even give it the push they needed). Now, here we are on single #3, “Ridin’” – which has gotten little media attention, much less, radio play.

It just seems like Mya can’t get it right this time around, on Liberation. I tried hard to be a fan this time around, but the album and just the whole process of getting it out has really let me down. Even though I’m disappointed and a lot of the material sounds dated, some songs that I liked on the album include “Give A Chick A Hand,” and “Ridin’.” It just seems like Mya hasn’t done any growing since any of her previous albums. She just seems to be the same artist she was all those years ago. Some may look at this as a positive, but I just don’t see any evolution.
According to fans, Mya has ditched the Liberation project, and new music can be heard via her MySpace for a new project, tentatively titled Smoke & Mirrors. Catchy titled. We’ll see.
Since there’s no information on a new Mya release date for Liberation, check out her MySpace for updates on new projects. Like I said, there’s rumors of a new album being recorded – we’ll see.

i downloaded the album and i like almost all of it, you should have reviewed it song by song but anyway, the slower songs are the best on the album it just sounds like she threw the others on there just to balance out the album, IMO Lyrically this is her best album to date but a lot of the upbeat songs sound dated.
another thing is that dude Brian is so quick to support white pop music like Britney who cant hold a note for nothing but when it comes to MYa he hatin on her… damn sopport a sista MYa got mad talent that is sleep on her voice is mad good and different nobody sounds like MYa!!!

What I meant was that Ciara hasn’t had any crossover success this year.Yes her album did well but that was due to it being released in December with two singles doing well on the r&b charts.She hasn’t had a top ten hit during this entire era,which is bad for Ciara since she came out so strong with her debut.
I think this chicks image is so corny. She needs to work on her image, whatever the hell it is, and work on that nasty sound she calls a voice. She is a good dancer, but that about it- and ugly as hell.

I like the song “riding” and Mya has been holding it down for almost a decade. People don’t understand how frustrating the music industry can be. Mya has sold millions of records yet she still has to deal with industry crap! Mya is a star and I will definitely purchase Liberation when it released! Go Mya!
I think people need to have respect for Mya she was big before Beyonce, Ciara, Rihanna and all those other girls. Mya is also a songwriter too! Mya is a hard worker and she definitely has worked very hard for her success.

A month ago if i read this i would have written her off, i happened to find a performance of Mya singing a Jazz song on youtube and iw as totoally flawed. She has vocal skills no doubt, i’m not into tearing aritsts down, but there a couple mainstream girls i can think of that she would sing circles around. And she has the look. So we can’t put it down to her image. I just think the promo for this album was a mess. She’s better of ditching “Liberation” and coming with something fresh in the new year (which is what they’re saying she is doing anyhow)

I agree this is somewhat of a half-assed attempt at a review. It would have been better if he featured songs that no one knew about. I like Lights go off and most of the slow songs. You didn’t even really discuss the album in general.
Mya is cute and she can dance but her voice is not that great. She defintely needs a voice coach. Maybe she should starting acting, everbody else is doing!
I agree with the most of comments made above. You only featured two songs which were already featured on Concrete Loop so we didn’t need them reviewed again. I would have liked to hear what you had to say about the other songs even if you only like Give a Chick A Hand and maybe Ridin. I think the point of reviewing an album is to review it in it’s entirety. You know, try to pick out something in each song, like great vocals or lyrics. Anyway, that review seemed rather lazy and I got the impression that you didnt listen to the album at all. By the way, Nothing At All and Lights Go Off are great songs.
And following the myspace link,the song Backseat on her myspace is a hot song. It sounds as if it was Neptunes produced.

Kinda funny how the last review from this site was good, and now this one is negative. I feel it was biased. First of all there are 13 tracks. Some of the standout songs are ” switch it up” “no touchin” “lights go off’ and “nothin at all” . I’m confused as 2 why u put ridin up…. for anyone that wants 2 have a brain of their own, download the album and give it a listen 2 urself cuz there are too many followers on here and in the world!
RIDIN IS THE ISH!!! That’s the best song she came out with so far. The video is okay too. I kinda liked “Lock U Down” too. I think people have just been giving so many doses of Beyonce, that is what people are gonna compare every female artist to. But Mya has been around longer than any other female. I think that she probably need to get some better producers on the album and maybe go through some personal relationship issues and she will have alot more deeper things to say. Yall need to lay off of Mya.
mya’s album Liberation will do good i know it will after mad pppl been waiting for a minute now for this cd… i will be buying more than one copy cant wait!!!

Both of these songs are HOT! In “Ridin’” the vocals are amazing, but if you listen you can notice that near the end of the song she starts to sound like Amerie, because she starts getting higher and higher with the notes. “Give a Chick a Hand” is a hot song because you can imagine it being on 106th & Park, because if this had a video it would be crazy. But, what makes this song even better is the fact that nobody would ever think to create a song about the other woman. Definitely a hot track.

Mya needs to let it go. I remember when I was in high school, she came out this song featuring Sisqo….WOW what happen to him/her too….LOL…Anyway, it was a hot song then. She tried to come up with the “Fear of Flying” album which i thought it was pretty good. “Moonring”????? oh hell no for me. Now that “Liberation” is pretty much over since 2004, she just need to go back and rename it “Fear of Releasing”
