MOVIES: “COLLEGE ROAD TRIP”
Monday, November 19, 2007
Check out the trailer for this new Walt Disney film “College Road Trip”, which stars Martin Lawrence and Raven Symone. The film centers around Rachel Porter (Symone) and her over protective police officer Father (Lawrence) that takes her on a road trip to view potential colleges, all to avoid her from moving further away to attend Georgetown University. Aside from all the craziness that happens during the trip, Lawrence’s character eventually learns to let his daughter mature and experience college life as she wants to.
The film is due out in theaters on March 8th, 2008. Check out a production photo and cute animation courtesy of raven-symone.org after the cut…

Yay…I’m first…I’m a teacher and I think this is a great idea for a movie especially when it features African American characters in it…..I hope many kids will be able to relate to this and even the ones that can’t will see somebody that looks like them and see the potential in themselves to go to college and what an exciting chapter it can be for them in their lives…..I can’t wait until it comes out! =)

Glad to see Martin still doing his thing and Raven staying on top of her game. I feel like the pairing of Martin and Kim Whitley as husband and wife is a little off though, just my opinion.

Wow. It’s about time all these black family movies are coming out. The characters are finally not being painted with some black stereotype, it’s refreshing! I’m tired of seeing all these “coonish” movies on the big screen. As black people, we sometimes don’t understand the social backlash we endure when shit like that is put in the media. There’s is only…what, 10-13% of African American’s in this country so when some white people see these images, they believe them. T.V for a lot of these white families are there only connection to African Americas they have. We need to wake up. So when you buy into the latest 50 cent film or even something I Love New York (can be a guilty pleasure sometimes lol) think about that white family in Kansas that won’t come 10 feet of you now lol.
I’m looking forward to this movie ;).

I ain’t got any kids yet, well at least that i know about, so i won’t be seeing this movie. I do like the animated kids movies though, i usually get high and go see dem during the matinee on my days off. I don’t do it too often though, cuz sometimes folk behind the ticket booth, be looking at me strange like where the fuck is ur kid or i hope u ain’t one of those dateline jumpoffs, but usually i’m too high to care….damn, I really need some new hobbies.
Raven looking good though, look like she been working out at Krispy Kreme. I’m joking, she cute.Pray for me.

Just from the promo I think that this will definitely be a family comedy and also would motivate more of our black students who are just finishing high school to set their sites and higher the standards for more African American students to want to attend college…GO RAVEN!

Justin I 110% agree with you about the stereotype’s of AA’s in movies, but um your website damn near made me crap my pants. I expect to see some crazy looking sh*t like that from the mind of a white serial killer, not from what I presume to be a black man. Lawwwwwwd I was scared lol!

Martin was the man back in the day but this movie shows more and more that he’s gone down that Eddie Murphy route of getting broken down by the white homosexual movie executives into making Disney “family” movies that revolve around black men bumbling and stumbling their way through raising children. I was watching the Martin dvd and it occurred to me that if the Martin show was put on air today, either “Tommy” or “Cole” would have to be played by white dude and “Pam” would definitely have to be white. The scene in the preview for this upcoming movie with Raven Symone in the car with the chinese and white girl shows so clearly how much the “black movie” ahs devolved into a purposeful attempt by the executives in Hollywood to get black people more obsessed with coming together with the other races than dealing with real black issues. Martin also has a movie coming out, whose title I can’t remember, that has Mo’

Martin also has a movie coming out, whose title I can’t remember, that has Mo’Nique and Cedric the Entertainer in it that has to be the biggest coonfest I’ve seen in a while. Really pathetic that you have all these 40 year old black “comedians” that can’t think of anything funnier than making dumbass faces while some caucasian director does closeups on them.

OMG im gonna have to see this. Maritn Lawrence, Raven, and Kym Whitley. I think the white dude was Donny Osmond Lol. Sounds like fun times to me.
@ Judah obviously you have never watched white family based movies or sticomes. The father is always the bumbbling idiot in those predominately white family moves and sitcomes. That is just the way it works the father is the bumbbling idot and the mother always comes in a saves his behind. That is they way alot of these family movies are structured and it has nothing to do with race. People want to see the bumbling dad who eventually learns how to handle the house hold chores and rise the children.
As far is the movie being an attempt to make black people blend with other races. More and more blacks are middle and upper middle class. If you are a black person living in a middle class and upper middle class neighborhood more than likely you are going to have a lot of interations with other races. The more likely you are going to have close friends who are not black. From the look of this move Raven’s family is a middle class black family. I come from a middle class black family and one of my best friends is white. I have friends who are indian, asian, hispanic, etc. In the real world i won’t be surrounded by all black people.
If this movie makes young black kids want to go to college be it a 4 year or 2 year institution I am all for it. Its really important to show black people in higher education

I CANT WAIT UNTIL THIS MOVIE COME OUT. I THINK KIDS AND PARENTS CAN LEARN FROM THIS MOVIE. YOU HAVE ALOT OF PARENTS WHO ARE VERY MUCH OVER PROTECTIVE OF THEIR KIDS….WHEN IT COMES TO GOING AWAY FOR COLLEGE. I JUST GRADUATED FROM PENN STATE IN MAY AND THAT WAS A DIFFRENT EXPERIENCE FROM WHAT IM USE TO HERE IN DC. FROM WHAT I SEEN FROM THE SNIPPET, IT IS WORTH ME GOING TO THE MOVIES AND ENJOYING IT.
PS GREAT JOB CL FOR PROVIDING US WITH POSTIVE POSTS LIKE THIS ONE.

@Judah,
I know these things (Blacks regularly on TV) comes in waves but “Pam” as white? I, too, know about Martin’s new movie that was supposed to be released this month (Russell Comes Home or something like that) - obviously, I cn’t think of the title and the name of the movie has been changed at least once so it sounds like straight to DVD.
I do agree that someone in Hollyweird needs to stop giving Mo’Nique and Cedric work.
