The currently untitled new project from Janet Jackson is set to release at the first music quarter of next year, in February of ’08.
Janet recently parted ways with Virgin Records and is now teamed up with Island Def Jam. This will be her first release on the new label, with Antonia “LA” Reid having executive producer credits on the new album. Boyfriend and producer Jermaine Dupri is busy working on Mariah’s new project, and he had this to say:
“We’re going to make it seem like we’re in competition to see who’s going to have the biggest album of the year,” he told Billboard in July.
The artist is also prepping a worldwide tour to promote the follow-up to 2006′s 20 Y.O., which should be quite interesting. In addition, Jackson has signed with the William Morris Agency for representation in all areas. I don’t know about you, but I am interested to see what a new Janet tour will be like.
NAS’ CONTROVERSIAL ALBUM PUSHED BACK
Nas was to release his controversial album, Nigger next month but it seems as though the dates have been changed. With just an album title, and no music heard, the date of the album has been pushed back to Black History Month, February.
After a new snippet was leaked over the weekend, titled “What It Is,” Nas says that his first single will drop sometime in January. There was a lot of negative feedback on the snippet, but Nas assures us that “What It Is” will not appear on the album and that they are solidifying the final track listing. Nas clarified those are vocals that were leaked and added onto a random beat.
“I never rhymed to that beat,” he said.
Nigger, which many media outlets have had trouble putting in many publications and saying in television interviews will include productions from Atlanta’s DJ Toomp, longtime collaborator, Salaam Remi, as well as a host of new producers. Diddy is slated to make some contributions as well.
AMY WINEHOUSE CANCELS REMAINING ’07 APPEARANCES

According to the troubled performer’s publicist, Amy Winehouse has canceled remaining tour dates and appearances in ’07. And if you saw that train wreck of a performance at this year’s MTV European Music Awards, you can definitely see why.
All of Winehouse’s shows have been canceled by promoters, with refunds being given to purchasers. Winehouse says in a statement:
“I can’t give it my all onstage without my [husband] Blake,” the statement read. “I’m so sorry, but I don’t want to do the shows half-heartedly; I love singing. My husband is everything to me and without him it’s just not the same.”
I really hope that she will get it together, because Back to Black was one of my favorite albums in a while. And she’s supposed to be racking up at the Grammy’s this coming year. I was also expecting a new album next year, but that may change. Winehouse released a live DVD, I Told You I Was Trouble within the last couple of weeks, and her debut album, Frank was officially released in the States as well (it was only available as an import).

I agree with #11. Janet is not 85, she is 41. And you are right, no one is telling Madonna to go some where and sit down. Noone told Luther that, or Pattie, or Aretha, or any of the other greats. Although they may lose some of the “young” crowd, these artist still have fans. If they can make money until they are 65 doing what they love, then why not go for it. If it is not appealing to you, then dont buy it. But please dont say that an artist should stop what they are doing just because you are no longer interested. That is so crazy to me. The difference between Janet and a Whitney or Aretha is that they’re singers. They can get on stage with a microphone and belt a tune out; their style never gets old. Janet is a entertainer, a dancer. She can’t get on stage and sing a ballad like the others. Basically people want to see her, not hear her. She has to be dancing for her to be entertaining….and I think that’s why some people feel as though her time is over. After a while the lip syncing and choreography gets old. She has been doing that for over 20 years now. It’s like with Michael Jackson. We loved watching him in his prime, but do we want to see him doing what he was doing back then now?

Prince still performs even though his albums don’t sell like they use to. he still creates for the people who love his sound. Madonna still makes music, so does U2, Patti, Anita baker, sade and host of others who blew up in the 80s with janet. An artist always will have the need to create or perform. I like Janet and will continue to support her, but she’s just not appealing to the younger crowd now. Those of us who remember her in her youth have great memories. But for the younger ones, they just are not very supportive of her. When I mention Janet’s name to my kids, they laugh (that’s the truth). Hate the fact that artist of Janet’s age (my age too) are not getting the love they deserve, but hey, everything gets old. As for her singing, she can’t and her dancing, over choreographed and too machinic like – those are the comments from the young ones I talk to. But as for me, I’m still a fan.

I have not read all the comments in this Janet debate but I will say I agree with the people who say she’s pretty much done… You cannot really make comparisons to Madonna because Madonna has turned herself into an “act” in and of itself, her shows are theatrical and she is a character… there are Madonna fans and then there are people into kitsch and art (poor or fine) who tend toward Madonna’s projects.
Janet doesn’t have that…she’s like some teenager, perpetually in belly-baring tops, whispering (though Madonna does too) about nothing…
But, the music scene now is confusing…who knows what will be a hit? Alicia sold twice as many albums as anyone has lately and I, for some reason, think it’s weird… I think she deserves to sell 700K or 700 million the first week, but I wonder how she did so well in this musical climate… It makes me wonder what Mariah will do…and Beyonce…will people flock in droves to hear their stuff as if it was on par with Alicia’s?
