How are Alicia numbers weird? Alicia’s last album sold over 600k in the first week. This is nothing new for her. There is no comparison between Alicia’s and Beyonce’s music ? Two totally different artist. The consumers flock to Alicia because they look at her as a artist that has substance, not just a cute entertainer. Beyonce dropped an album last year, the climate was no different than it is now, and it sold half of what Alicia’s album sold.

I don’t know about a new album for Janet. That 20 Y.O. was one hot mess from front to back, top to bottom. Her being everywhere half naked didn’t help either. And she seems to have lost a lot off her dance moves — she looked hella stiff at that Billboard performance. She needs to not mix business with pleasure because giving her career over to Jermaine didn’t do her any good.

Back then it was all about Madonna, Michael, Janet, Whitney, Prince, and Bruce. As an artist you must experiment with different sounds. Janet is an entertainer, actually her last CD wasn’t bad at all she just came out with the wackest songs and extra wack videos.

I never discredited Michael in any way. What I was saying is the excitement that was there when he was in his prime is not there today. When he was doing his groundbreaking moves, we were all excited because he was young, fresh and new. People respect him as a legend but his album sales have decreased in a major way (just check his last few releases). So my question was would people still want to her NEW material and see him on stage dancing and all that? Would they support his album.? Or would they just want to see him performing his old songs? A lot of older artists do well touring but when it comes to dropping new albums the audience seems to ignore them.

To the person that bought up Mariah and Mary…once again, you can’t compare Janet, an entertainer, to two singers that sing about general topics. Their style is not trendy.

Also, Janet’s record sells have been on the decline since before the Superbowl incident.

To each artist their own. Janet can be compared to Mariah and Mary because she has a career that spans that long. She’s their peer no matter where people see her now. Janet has made her mark on the industry just like her brother. Once you start seeing a crop on mini replicas running around and they start naming you as inspiration, pretty much shows you how influentional an individual has been.

Records sales have been up and down for every artist. Janet has been on the decline and part of it is her fault. Prince, Chaka Khan, Aretha, Jill Scott, India Arie and all tons of old school and new school acts have all released albums that have sold below Janet’s last two efforts. Nonetheless the industry states that Janet has to sell 10 mill with each album or its a flop. Tons of artist go years without number hits or tours and they continue to release albums with loyal fan bases.
