MUSIC NEWS: NEW JANET ALBUM COMING / NAS’ CONTROVERSIAL ALBUM PUSHED BACK / AMY WINEHOUSE CANCELS REMAINING ‘07 APPEARANCES
Wednesday, November 28, 2007

The currently untitled new project from Janet Jackson is set to release at the first music quarter of next year, in February of ‘08.
Janet recently parted ways with Virgin Records and is now teamed up with Island Def Jam. This will be her first release on the new label, with Antonia “LA” Reid having executive producer credits on the new album. Boyfriend and producer Jermaine Dupri is busy working on Mariah’s new project, and he had this to say:
“We’re going to make it seem like we’re in competition to see who’s going to have the biggest album of the year,” he told Billboard in July.
The artist is also prepping a worldwide tour to promote the follow-up to 2006’s 20 Y.O., which should be quite interesting. In addition, Jackson has signed with the William Morris Agency for representation in all areas. I don’t know about you, but I am interested to see what a new Janet tour will be like.
NAS’ CONTROVERSIAL ALBUM PUSHED BACK

Nas was to release his controversial album, Nigger next month but it seems as though the dates have been changed. With just an album title, and no music heard, the date of the album has been pushed back to Black History Month, February.
After a new snippet was leaked over the weekend, titled “What It Is,” Nas says that his first single will drop sometime in January. There was a lot of negative feedback on the snippet, but Nas assures us that “What It Is” will not appear on the album and that they are solidifying the final track listing. Nas clarified those are vocals that were leaked and added onto a random beat.
“I never rhymed to that beat,” he said.
Nigger, which many media outlets have had trouble putting in many publications and saying in television interviews will include productions from Atlanta’s DJ Toomp, longtime collaborator, Salaam Remi, as well as a host of new producers. Diddy is slated to make some contributions as well.
AMY WINEHOUSE CANCELS REMAINING ‘07 APPEARANCES

According to the troubled performer’s publicist, Amy Winehouse has canceled remaining tour dates and appearances in ‘07. And if you saw that train wreck of a performance at this year’s MTV European Music Awards, you can definitely see why.
All of Winehouse’s shows have been canceled by promoters, with refunds being given to purchasers. Winehouse says in a statement:
“I can’t give it my all onstage without my [husband] Blake,” the statement read. “I’m so sorry, but I don’t want to do the shows half-heartedly; I love singing. My husband is everything to me and without him it’s just not the same.”
I really hope that she will get it together, because Back to Black was one of my favorite albums in a while. And she’s supposed to be racking up at the Grammy’s this coming year. I was also expecting a new album next year, but that may change. Winehouse released a live DVD, I Told You I Was Trouble within the last couple of weeks, and her debut album, Frank was officially released in the States as well (it was only available as an import).

um J.D. go back to PR school, you don’t show your hand this early in the makings of an album. You start your competition now. Maybe you even have them making comments about each’s album now and how one is the original diva or triple threat etc etc. But you don’t go talking about what you gonna do.
This tears a page right out the Kanye/50 marketing handbook. And you didn’t tear the right page out dude.

Nas why????????? I love him and I am tired of the great artists being pushed back for some bullshit! Amy is a damn hot ass mess! But yet, all these damn Black people on here seem to have so much sympathy for her, but you hate on Ashanti, Beyonce and every other Black female artist who is sober and doing their thing!

Tiffany , you are racist dam,
Amy is doing a better black music that all this fuckin artist put together.
And she looks a hot mess so?! She has issue with drugs but at least she is talented and sometimes it is good to support talent especially when it is from people that represent us better than a fake ass sahanti mothafucka lol
no seriously, ashanti lokks good or whateva but AMY WINEHOUSE MUSIC IS 100000000000 TIMES BETTER THAN ASHANTI MUSIC “BABE TAKE ME LIKE THAT”!!
can you compare beyonce music and Amy, dam Amy is a jazz woman, that girl can sing and she does not scream!! Like joss stone which is white too and looks a HAM. Black people are really too superficial and now white people are coming to show us how we should do our own music a damn shame!!

I loved Janet in the 80’s too, but she either needs to step up her game or fall back from trying to sing. There is no comparison between Janet and true singers like Whitney, Mariah, Patti and Tina. JANET JUST CAN’T SING!!! She can dance, but I personally don’t want to see a 40 something year old woman gyrating and bopping around like she’s still a teenager. For me, nothing since Vevet Rope has even been relavant. If Janet wants to try to come back, then she needs to take some voice lessons, put on some clothes, and remember that a nice body does not equate talent.

I agree with you, a bit… Amy’s music is FAR SUPERIOR to Beyonce’s and Ashanti’s…Amy is in a different league…and the only reason she might not get 5 or 6 Grammy Awards next year is because the org might be a bit hesitant to reward such a flippant drug addict.

@Whateva
So i guess whitney is still relevant because she has a voice (or we hope so since is was /is a crackhead). mariah has been doing the same shit over and over again, she never takes a risk and ALWAYS plays it safe. So why do they get a pass and not janet?
It’s stupid to say janet can’t sing, (yes we all know she doesn’t have a voice like mariah or whitney) but that doesn’t mean she can’t sing.
I can’ t stand a bandwagon hater.. you hate on someone because it’s the “in” thing to do.. You say you haven’t liked janet since the 80’s but you liked her up till the velvet rope.. the velvet rope came out in 97.. since the velvet rope she’s had songs such as All for you, trust a try, come on get up, you aint right, feels so right, island life, sexhibition, slolove, just a little while, do it to me, enjoy, take care, get it out of me and rollwitcha.. compare those songs to that tired shit Mariah has been singing.
don’t forget about us was a remake of we belong together, shake it of was a joke and it’s like that was just as corny *those chicks are ash and I’m lotion* what the fuck is that lol…

Honestly, The Emancipation of Mimi was no better than Charmbracelet or Glitter. The tracks on the album weren’t any different. Its just that ETOM did well and the other two didn’t. So people ought to stop over hyping EOTM like she was on some Visions of Love type quality, because it wasn’t.

I love how everybody wants to talk about Janet’s vocals and then compare her to Whitney, MC and Pattie. When was the last time Whitney or Pattie had a SONG on the radio, let alone a HIT! How many of you folks actually bought “just whitney” or Patties new gospel album. I’d venture to say that Janet has been more successful than most of the BIG VOICE singers yall mention even after the superbowl! And Mariah JUST got her career back on track. Before TEOM people on message boards were clowning the hell out of MC! Saying that all she did was sell sex and try to act young! The same shit yall sayin about Janet. I’m can’t say that janet is gonna have a huge comeback in 2008. But If she does, then all yall haters won’t have shit to say.

well, I agree with you Janet fans on that: Mariah’s last cd, image, entire run was TRASH. I didn’t get it, it was contrived and, based on what I’d seen of her, beneath her. I’m puzzled as to how she was such a success…I think it was a fluke, and because we hate to think for ourselves, she’ll capitalize off that fluke again… her album was garbage, her image and performances were garbage…I didn’t buy that CD…
The only reason she’s better of than Janet, at this point, is that she had such a run in ‘05…her first single was a hit because it worked in an era of trashcan music but We Belong Together was an even bigger hit and it was because she can sing… I think that’s what gives her legs, the voice… Janet surely doesn’t have that…

I’m sorry to say this, I’m not a big Janet fan BUT I do respect what she has done in this game and 20 years in this tough business is nothing to sneaze at. But the day of those artist who hypnotize the world with their feet is soooo 80’s! Madonna, Paula Abdoul, Janet had their time. Janet should just do Vegas or tour around the world, Their albums really dont cut it anymore (Well Madonna is a BEAST outside the US). Somebody needs to tell Ciara to step up them vocals also because that little 1,2, Step, Crumpin, & Matrix move wont last forever.

“FUNNY HOW YOU PRAISE MIKE (wHICH HE SHOULD BE PRAISED) BUT DOWN JANET, WHEN MIKE HAS BEEN DOING THE SAME MOVES SINCE HE WAS 5..
AND JANET HAS REINVENTED HER SELF..”
They are both great dancers-period. However, everthing Janet does Michael does better. I think she got a lot of her moves from her brother (nothing wrong with that).
I really don’t agree that Janet has reinvented herself. Changing clothes doesn’t count.
Like I told another poster the other day, hate is a very strong word. I like Janet well enough FYI, but I don’t worship her blindly either. In other words, I have my own opinion about Janet the “entertainer”. That is what this discussion is about. I don’t know her personally. She seems quite sweet. What is there to hate?
If anyone should admit anything (you accused me of hating her) then it is you SHAWN. Maybe you are the one with the problem. Perhaps you “hate” the fact that everyone doesn’t agree with you.

“KB” I agree.
Oh shit there goes that “putting another artist down to bring one up” thing again. The Emancipation sold cause it was a good album. SIMPLE AS THAT.
I am sorry singing ability is more important to me than dancing.
Dancer with a mic = Janet.
Jeez…….I cant help it that I’m so sensible. LOL!!! I love you tho Janet.

@shawn:Maybe you need to REREAD what I said about Janet. I never said that I haven’t liked her since the 80’s. I said I loved her in the 80’s too. I was simply stating that she has fallen off since the Velvet Rope IMO! If you still think she’s relevant, then cool, but I don’t and that’s cool too. At least I know that Mariah and Whitney and Patti can hold a note and sing AUDIBLY. When all is said and done, I’d rather LISTEN to Mariah, Whitney and Patti actually sing, than listen to, or at least try to listen to whatever it is that Janet is trying to convey with her…..ahem….music.

@Whateva
why would you even attempt to compare janet to whitney, mariah and pattie? Janet knows she doesn’t have the strongest voice, but the girl can hold a note. she also knows how to deliver emotion thru a song. She also sounds the same live as she does on record. Now if you don’t like her recorded singing voice (which hasn’t changed since the 80’s) that’s fine with me, but don’t say she can’t sing.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shYihBTV1NA

I really like amy. I think Back to Black is great. But in this performance, I thought for sure she was going to fall over drunk. The back up singer was singing over her for a minute she was slurring so bad. I think he was thinking like me and that she was going to forget the lyrics. I even think she did at that time.
