T.I., currently under house arrest in his hometown of Atlanta, has already started working on new material for a new album, which he hopes to release September 2008, entitled Paper Trail. T.I. is writing all the lyrics down on paper, which he claims he hasn’t done since 2001′s I’m Serious.
“Usually when he records an album he does 100 songs and chooses from that — it’s just that now he’s officially starting to record,” a spokesperson tells Billboard.com. “There are no song titles yet because who’s to say if these songs are even going to make the record.”
T.I. is awaiting his trial on federal weapons charges. We’ll see how well this new album fairs, though. A lot of fans were disappointed by his latest effort, T.I. vs. T.I.P. Not only that, but his arrest hasn’t even allowed him opportunity to complete promo on that album.
SOLANGE HARD AT WORK
Solange, who has been in the media a lot lately for random socialiting, is currently at work on her sophomore album, Solange & the Hadley Street Dreams. Solange says that the record is a mix of old sixties and seventies soul mixed with electronica.
Solange tells Essence.com in a recent interview:
“I wasn’t going to do another record because I didn’t want to be in the limelight. I liked staying home with my son and expressing myself through writing. But things happened in my life that I wanted to discuss and vent about, so that’s how the record came about.”
On the record, Solange will do most of the writing and producing. However, she has been in Miami, working Cee-Lo Green, and the album includes features from Lil’ Wayne (she recently added him to “ChampagneChronicNightcap”), as well as Q-Tip, as well as working with Marsha Ambrosius of Floetry. Solange also recently penned a publishing deal with EMI.
ALICIA KEYS RELEASES HER NEW RECORD
Today, Alicia Keys releases her third studio album, As I Am. Critics have been saying that this is Alicia’s best album to date. Check out CL’s album review on the new record from Miss Keys.
On the new LP, Alicia Keys has proclaimed that she tried to “become a better person” on the record, saying the album is like Janis Joplin meets Aretha Franklin. On the project, she worked with the soulful John Mayer and the legendary Linda Perry. No comment on T.I. Hope Solange is successful this time around. She didn’t want to be in the spotlight, that’s funny. I don’t think she had a choice in the matter considering the fact that her cd didn’t sell. Can’t wait to cop A. Key’s new album.

Solange – I didn’t like the first effort, but I have to say I was glad she didn’t try to take the same route as B and went for something with a little bit more meaning, the only thing she needs to do now is work on making it more radio friendly.
Alicia – There’s no doubt that she can sing and this is her best work yet (IMO), I love Lesson Learned, Wreckless Love, Teenage Love Affair, and so on I really only have to skip like three songs which is good. The only thing about her is that she’s boring as far as performances, I mean its great to be able to play piano, but you also have to be able to go away from that and give the audience something that they don’t expect and I don’t think Alicia has learned how to do the yet. I feel like she uses the piano as a crutch and that just not a good look. The music is there, now just let the piano go for a while.
I like Solange better as a songwriter like most writers-turned-singers (i.e. Johnta Austin, Dream…the list goes on-you get the point)
The title of Solange’s album is kind if a turn off, but if she’s working with Bilal and Cee-lo it will definately be something different, not the same ole shit everyone else is putting out. She seems likeable, actually has a personality and doesnt seem like a wind up doll like “other” artists.
i like solange strangely enough. yes, her first cd sucked but i like that she doesn’t follow the grain. she’s not like her boring ass sister (though she also doesn’t have the pipes her sis does) . i hope she brings some creative energy b/c most of these females are boring me right now
@ LJ, maybe you need to see her in concert because she so doesn’t stay behind the piano, she dances, I don’t know if you saw her “Karma” performances on Award shows but she had dancers (for other songs too but I forget), and even for her very first grammy performance she danced Flamenco on the remix of “A Woman’s Worth”.
Though, Alicia is doing her thing right now, I don’t really like the album. I only like the 3 leaked singles. Especially the John Mayer duet. That’s my fave.
