Washington Redskins defensive back Sean Taylor died Tuesday morning, a day after he was shot by an intruder at his home in Palmetto Bay, Florida. He was 24.

The one-time standout with the Miami Hurricanes died at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he was airlifted after the shooting Monday morning.

He never regained consciousness after the shooting, Sharpstein (his ex-lawyer) said. “It’s a senseless, tragic death that was so unnecessary, another example of the incessant violence in — not only our community — but the country now.”

Another senseless death, but all things happen for a reason and are a part of God’s overall plan of life. We can’t plan our death, stay close to the ones you love. Tell them that you love them now before its too late. And try to put life into perspective.

  16. TtheGemini

This is just so sad, another young brotha trying to do to the right thing, I understand he had gotten in some trouble but was really following the rules of his punishment and that he also had a daughter that he adored and that he also had a fiance. I hope they find the murderer(s) and lock them up for good…good ridance.

  17. This is so sad. My husband was shot in the leg 5 years ago when someone attmepted to rob him. This morning, I told him to count his blessings. I woke up to this news this morning. Our men are dying.

I never could understand what makes a person kill someone. It seems like someone he knew I pray I’m wrong. I say that because I read some things about his past. Whatever the case no one should lose their life. My prayers are with his family.

  21. Lotta

Another person sensely killed. Now his daughter will NOT have a father and his parents have lost their young son, who was becaming a man. STOP THE VIOLENCE. 32. ThinkAboutIt

Prayers of comfort and strength for his family and friends.
He died a Hero – protecting his child and the mother of his child.

These young athletes are targets – they work hard at their craft, only to be faced with do nothing folks, who have no ambition, goals or morals, and live only to take away what somebody else has worked for. There have been an increase of home invasions on young black athletes – Antoine Walker, Eddy Curry, DeShawn Stevenson.

  33. Monique_RealTalk

This is so dissapointing for real!!!!! My heart goes out to his family and friends. The man had his daughter a year ago. He was such a good football player. A mother should never have to go through explaining this type of sh*t to her child!!!!! CSI and Miami-Dade Police, catch the heartless killer!!!

  34. SweetThang729

May he rest in peace but I truthfully think his girlfriend set him up…

  35. annaya-michelle

    damn. Jus, damn. No

  36. Shwalker1214

This is sooooo sad, my deepest sympathy goes out to the family. I just think it is sad, people are not and did not raise their damn kids right, so you go destroy somebody life and family who had something going for themselves. I really don’t know what to say, the world we live in today is just beyond crazy, something has to give and, really fast. RIP Sean Taylor

  37. theprodigy17

  40. 1prettyb

This sad story just sounds off to the crime going on in the streets and world wide. This is one reson why I am afraid to move to the city (ie NYC LA or MIA) The murder rates there are horrible and terrifying. My Prayers go out to this family. Whe are we going to wake up America nad stop being our own enemy. We need to prepare for GOD’s return because with all the things going on HE won’t tary long.

  41. ENDLESSLOVE

    THIS IS VERY TRAGIC!

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO OUR BLACK MEN?

  42. bk

I’ve followed this guy’s football career since high school. He beat us in the state championship my senior year. He was a phenomenal athlete. I’ll never forget thinking, “Wow! This dude is unstoppable.!” We graduated the same year from high school and went to rival colleges. He was a force on the field, and I remember sitting in the stadium, watching him run all over my college team. As much as I couldn’t stand us losing, it was better watching him win, because he was a beast. He left college earlier and continued his success in the NFL. We are the same age, and now he’s gone. When I heard it on the news this morning, my mouth dropped, and I shed a few tears. May his soul rest eternally in heaven.

  43. Kelly

    R.I.P. that’s really sad

  44. RIP #21…Sean Taylor. I wrote a blog on my Myspace page concerning this issue…I think its a little too hardcore for CL though. I’m seriously tired of the unnecessary violence…to kill anyone for money…greed…envy…jealousy…is bullshyt. May he rest in peace…and I will pray for his family/loved ones at this time.

Prayers for the families who lost someone at the hand of others…and RIP to those that lost their life senselessly.

  45. natural mystique

This is terrible. The man was in the confines of his own home, for God’s sake.
There is no Gun Control in this foolish country.

  46. JoRo

Only 24. This is so sad, yet another unnecessary death. Condolences to his family.

  47. geminiryder

I am in shock that a person can’t live out there dreams anylonger, cause we have so many other folks who are not even dreaming.
My sympathy goes to his family and to the Washington Redskin organization.

  48. kimwill02

May his family find peace throughout this trying time.

  49. Being from the DC/MD area, its a sad day over here. This is very senseless.

  50. Water

It is so sad to see an aspiring Black man pass away due to violence. But to change violence it has to start in our communities. We have to really address the stop snitching factor. Nobody wants to get involved.

  51. Step

May the peace that passes ALL understanding guard his families hearts and minds through Christ Jesus….

May the Lord keep this family during this time of bereavement.

  52. DAMN SHAME.THIS IS TRULY A SAD STORY. I MEAN 4REAL….U CANT EVEN BE IN UR OWN HOME WITHOUT MOUTHA FUCKAZ TRYIN TO COME IN A KILL YOU. SO SO SAD. JUST THINK, THIS DUDE HAS NOW LEFT HIS FAMILY…..PARENTS, GIRLFRIEND AND HIS 18MONTH OLD DAUGHTER. THIS SHIT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. THE VIOLENCE HAS GOT TO STOP FOR REAL. ALOT OF PEOPLE TAKE SIMPLE SHIT LIKE LOCKIN THE TOP **AND** BOTTOM LOCK, OR THE SCREEN DOOR OR SETTING THE ALARM FOR GRANTED. FUCK ROBBIN A GROCERY STORE OR A BANK..ITS MUCH EASIER TO BREAK INTO SOMEONES HOME AND THAT IS WHAT THESES DUDE ARE LOOKIN AT ESPECIALLY NOW. I WOULD ADVISE EVERYONE THAT READS MY COMMENT TO PLEASE BE SAFE, PROTECT YOURSELF.LOCK YOUR DOORS (ALL LOCKS) BECAUSE THIS IS BECOMING A PROBLEM. THE DEATH OF SEAN TAYLOR IS WHAT WE SEE BECAUSE ITS ON THE NEWS BUT THIS SHIT IS HAPPENING EVERYDAY SOMEWHERE. PLEASE BE SAFE YALL REAL TALK….MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE FAMILY OF SEAN TAYLOR

  53. horge toebunkle

guns are for pussies!! when are these so called “thugs” going to realize shooting someone doesnt make you “hard” it makes you a sissy!!!!

  54. Brnsugar75

Palmetto Bay is just across the dang highway from my house. Not even 5 minutes away. That is a very nice neighborhood. My mom called me at work and told me had been shot it wasn’t until I woke up this morning I found out he died. This was no robbery. I guarantee you this was retaliation for when he and his friends went and beat up/ I think shot that dude that he THOUGHT stole his ATV. The police dropped the felony charges and made them misdemeanor and put him on probation. The dude was also suing him. You see your past always comes back to haunt you. It seems he was beginning to change his life around ever since his daughter was born. I feel bad for his parents and daughter. She has no father. His parents have to bury their child. You are not suppose to bury your kids. He was a superb athlete and great person. Know you are loved by many. My thought and prayers to your loved ones. R.I.P. Mr. Taylor

  55. Shante

  58. Nay

Thank you so much CL for posting this up. Im in such pain right now. Being from the DC/MD area and being an avid Redskins fan, my heart is hurting right now. This is a player i admire and adore. Never really met the man but it still feels like i knew him otherwise. It’s a sad day today. This is way past football. This is everyday life. Human being dying over nothing. Being gundown in the home where his family and him slept.. WHEN WILL UNNECESSARY KILLING GOING TO END?!!! He was just 24 years old…

Thank you so much CL for the opportunity to express my feelings towards this sad case.

    R. I. P Sean Taylor #21. May your beloved soul rest in eternal peace.
