NEWS: Redskins safety Sean Taylor dies
Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Washington Redskins defensive back Sean Taylor died Tuesday morning, a day after he was shot by an intruder at his home in Palmetto Bay, Florida. He was 24.
The one-time standout with the Miami Hurricanes died at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he was airlifted after the shooting Monday morning.
He never regained consciousness after the shooting, Sharpstein (his ex-lawyer) said. “It’s a senseless, tragic death that was so unnecessary, another example of the incessant violence in — not only our community — but the country now.”

Another senseless death, but all things happen for a reason and are a part of God’s overall plan of life. We can’t plan our death, stay close to the ones you love. Tell them that you love them now before its too late. And try to put life into perspective.

This is just so sad, another young brotha trying to do to the right thing, I understand he had gotten in some trouble but was really following the rules of his punishment and that he also had a daughter that he adored and that he also had a fiance. I hope they find the murderer(s) and lock them up for good…good ridance.

Prayers of comfort and strength for his family and friends.
He died a Hero - protecting his child and the mother of his child.
These young athletes are targets - they work hard at their craft, only to be faced with do nothing folks, who have no ambition, goals or morals, and live only to take away what somebody else has worked for. There have been an increase of home invasions on young black athletes - Antoine Walker, Eddy Curry, DeShawn Stevenson.

I’ve followed this guy’s football career since high school. He beat us in the state championship my senior year. He was a phenomenal athlete. I’ll never forget thinking, “Wow! This dude is unstoppable.!” We graduated the same year from high school and went to rival colleges. He was a force on the field, and I remember sitting in the stadium, watching him run all over my college team. As much as I couldn’t stand us losing, it was better watching him win, because he was a beast. He left college earlier and continued his success in the NFL. We are the same age, and now he’s gone. When I heard it on the news this morning, my mouth dropped, and I shed a few tears. May his soul rest eternally in heaven.

RIP #21…Sean Taylor. I wrote a blog on my Myspace page concerning this issue…I think its a little too hardcore for CL though. I’m seriously tired of the unnecessary violence…to kill anyone for money…greed…envy…jealousy…is bullshyt. May he rest in peace…and I will pray for his family/loved ones at this time.
Prayers for the families who lost someone at the hand of others…and RIP to those that lost their life senselessly.

Palmetto Bay is just across the dang highway from my house. Not even 5 minutes away. That is a very nice neighborhood. My mom called me at work and told me had been shot it wasn’t until I woke up this morning I found out he died. This was no robbery. I guarantee you this was retaliation for when he and his friends went and beat up/ I think shot that dude that he THOUGHT stole his ATV. The police dropped the felony charges and made them misdemeanor and put him on probation. The dude was also suing him. You see your past always comes back to haunt you. It seems he was beginning to change his life around ever since his daughter was born. I feel bad for his parents and daughter. She has no father. His parents have to bury their child. You are not suppose to bury your kids. He was a superb athlete and great person. Know you are loved by many. My thought and prayers to your loved ones. R.I.P. Mr. Taylor

Thank you so much CL for posting this up. Im in such pain right now. Being from the DC/MD area and being an avid Redskins fan, my heart is hurting right now. This is a player i admire and adore. Never really met the man but it still feels like i knew him otherwise. It’s a sad day today. This is way past football. This is everyday life. Human being dying over nothing. Being gundown in the home where his family and him slept.. WHEN WILL UNNECESSARY KILLING GOING TO END?!!! He was just 24 years old…
Thank you so much CL for the opportunity to express my feelings towards this sad case.

sooooo sad when this country loses another talented Afirican-American. DC/MD is in shock.. Even Ravens fans are trippin up here.
It’s funny how a lot of you say “we need to stop the violence” but y’all still support rappers who say “bang, bang”..”shoot, shoot, made you look” . Y’all still buy that crap…50 cent, Lil Wayne. Put your rmoney where your mouth is and stop buying their music. And don’t say “Music has nothing to do with violence” because even Cornell West said at the BET HIP HOP Awards that change starts with music.

He was a drug driver and a drug dealer. No surprise that he got sniped out. This was a personal hit not a random act of violence; it’s obvious because of the details surrounding the break in several days earlier with the knife left on the bed.

@62 I believe hip hop is always used as a scapegoat when violence occurs. Me personally I am a Jay stan and I love T.I. but I have never had the urge to sell or buy drugs and purchase guns. At the end of the day it comes down to the type of person they are. People give music to much power, like Jay said it is only entertainment. R.I.P to Mr. Taylor.

#66 you are absolutely correct, I can listen to Jay and T.I. all day and all night and still have no desire to go and kill, steal or destroy anyone. I agree with you 100% it all comes down to morals and values at the end of the day and apparently whomever did this had none.
#65 I hope you are not speculating he was a drug dealer or drug driver. I hope it is a matter of fact because it is ashame to assume what someone was or is especially now that he is gone.

RIP I lost a brother at 17 after a school fist fight…so I understand the pain…
I am not going to say that it is music…Dudes is in the street trying to get it..in anyway form or fashion…I think people are misguided by what is important in this life…we live in a society and advocate wealth as means to be in a power position..and it is so untrue…and before people blame music…Check what kind of dudes turn ya heads lady’s …a hardworker with walmart clothes…an old honda…living at his moms trying to get his credit strait…aint turning heads like rimmed up whips, bling, and name brand feet and clothes…this is what we are putting into our daughters heads…this is what we are putting into our mens heads…with proper PARENTAL guidance….you can subject a person to anything and they way the odds before acting…people who don’t have a person to rear them is raised by the streets and probably do listen to music like it is gospel…I blame their parents….not the storytellers…we watch just as much tv as we listen to music..and there have been far worst things to look at…Stop blaming it on people that ain’t neva stepped foot inside your home. And start getting with ya neices, nephews, and cousins…and see where you can help make more of an impact than that dude on the radio
