NEWS: Redskins safety Sean Taylor dies
Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Washington Redskins defensive back Sean Taylor died Tuesday morning, a day after he was shot by an intruder at his home in Palmetto Bay, Florida. He was 24.
The one-time standout with the Miami Hurricanes died at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he was airlifted after the shooting Monday morning.
He never regained consciousness after the shooting, Sharpstein (his ex-lawyer) said. “It’s a senseless, tragic death that was so unnecessary, another example of the incessant violence in — not only our community — but the country now.”

A few weeks ago, this boy who attends my school snatched an ipod right out of this lady’s hand and ran off the bus with it. I remember saying, “Damn, your mama couldn’t buy you one?? and although that incident isn’t close to being as serious as this one is, it just goes to say that people oughta get off their asses to work for whatever it was they want. I live in South Florida and I last night on our local news, Seans father stated that he was responding to the doctors and I along with everybody else who were watching, had great hopes that he would pull through. So to wake up this morning and see the headline that he passed, really hurts my heart. Just recently i lost a friend to gun violence and its so sad when it has to come to that. No amount of money, or whatever it was the intruder was trying to steal, is worth taking someones life. As cliche as it sounds, when will all of this senseless violence end?! This is truly sad…and may God bless us all in this crazy world.

Hip Hop and music has become a convenient scapegoat and a poor one at that.
The dude who shot up Va. Tech was not influenced to do that because of rap.
And as far as the violence in the streets it is more about drugs and $$$ than a hot beat or a hot rhyme. These rappers of more imitators than innovators.
I admit that some rappers are glorifying the dope game and quick $$$, — they are typically speaking on what they see in the streets, they are not speaking it into existence. It was there before rap, it was there before hip-hop.
The highest grossing movie this month, American Gangster, was about the drugs and the money, over 30 years ago, and Frank Lucas and his co-horts didn’t have a record deal, and wasn’t trying to get one.

This is absolutely sad. It’s so sad that the good die and the good die young. There are too many people out here dying innocently, and for what, someone who’s too lazy to get a job, and wants a free handout. I guess it ain’t so free after all if you’re taking someone else’s life. Well this proves to show that the person or persons involved in this child’s innocent and senseless death will have to pay, not by man, but by our Heavenly Father. Only God gives life, and he alone takes life, no human being should take the life of another. Things like this makes me sick to my stomach. For the past few weeks, there are too many senseless deaths going on here. Dr. Donda West - died for no reason. She was beautiful the way God made her, she didn’t need to do that to herself. And now we have this young man Sean Taylor, who died innocently as well. All I can say is may God’s wrath be on those person(s) who killed this young man and left his child fatherless. May God be with his family and Kanye and his family during this difficult time. May we all (viewers and readers) continue to uplift those families in need through our encouraging words, support and prayers. God Bless. RIP.

His daughter brought peace and calm to him and facilitated that maturity. Now she has to grow up without him. I grieve for Redskins Nation. I agree with no. 65; Sean Taylor was a dude with a track record. I’m not saying that the brother deserved death but I’m not the Most High so neither I, nor anyone else is fit to say that death or what type of death is appropriate for any man or woman. Nor is anyone fit to say that death is not deserved. Maybe he was a good brother and the Lord killed him to take him away from the evil to come (Isa 57:1). Many people are saying that they hope that the killer is found so that justice can be served. What if Sean Taylor was wicked as hell and his death was the justice (Job 4:7)? It’s all speculation. Black people confuse me. They’ll be the first ones to exclaim that “we can’t judge anybody”, but then a negro that they don’t know from Adam will get killed and just because he/she is famous, the black community puts that person in Heaven on the right hand of Christ. The Lord is no respecter of persons when it’s time to die (II Sam 14:14, Ecc 8:8, Job 7:1). Sean Taylor is is heaven based on what? Because he was rich? Because he was a professional athlete? Please.
Then black people will claim to pray for someone who’s died when we should be praying for the blacks that are still here in Satan’s world (Matt 8:21,22, Mark 12:26,27). We have no understanding whatsoever (Hos 4:6) and as long as our people disrespect the Most High, he will not hear our prayers (Psa 80:4-7, Prov 28:9, Isa 59:1-4, Jer 11:14, Mic 3:4, Zech 7:9-13) . The fact of the matter is that his death is extremely suspicious and everyone is a suspect, including that girlfriend of his. This situation makes no sense and yet at the same time it makes alot of sense. It’s obviously a hit and the murderer wanted to make a point because he left the girlfriend alive. What that point is is something that we’ll have to wait to be exposed, as all things are (Luke 12:2). Honestly; Sean Taylor’s murder at first glance, seems to be on some personal vendetta type shit. It’s a high profile case and I expect the white man to have Taylor’s killers bagged and tagged for their perp-walk photo-op within 2 weeks.

I SMELL A RAT! SOMETHING IS SO WRONG WITH THIS STORY…..TOO MANY QUESTIONS?
FIRST, HE WAS SHOT IN HIS BEDROOM WHILE IN BED…..WASN’T HIS DOOR LOCKED, DID HE HAVE AN ALARM? HE SHOULD HAVE HEARD SOMETHING AMIST WAYY BEFORE THE PERPETRATOR GOT TO THE BEDROOM, UNLESS SOMEONE LEFT THE DOOR UNLOCKED AND DIDN’T SET THE ALARM….
SORRY, I’M A NATURAL SKEPTIC, OF COURSE, I COULD BE WRONG, BUT THERE ARE TOO MANY LOOSE ENDS TO THIS STORY. THIS SOUNDS SO SENSELESS, AND I’M TRYING TO UNDERSTAND SOME OF IT.
THE STORY IS THAT SOMEONE BROKE INTO THE HOUSE AND WENT DIRECTLY TO THE BEDROOM AND ONLY SHOT SEAN. FIRST, HOW DID THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THE BEDROOM WAS? ( I BELIEVE THEY BEEN THERE BEFORE) WHY DIDN’T SEAN OR GIRLFRIEND HEAR SOMEONE COMING IN…THE HOUSE IS NOT SMALL, THEY WOULD HAVE HAD A LITTLE TIME TO PREPARE…PLUS, WHY WAS HE ONLY SHOT IN THE LEG?
MY HYPOTHESIS:
SOMEONE BROKE INTO SEAN’S HOUSE A WEEK BEFORE HE WAS SHOT….
HE PROBABLY KNEW WHO BROKE INTO HIS HOUSE (SOME OF HIS BROKE ASS CHILDHOOD FRIENDS HE STILL HANGS AROUND) AND WENT AND BEAT SOMEONE UP OR EITHER THREATENED SOMEONE…(THIS IS NOT FAR FETCHED IF YOU READ HIS BACKGROUND AND SEE THAT HE WAS SORT OF OUT THERE BEFORE AND WENT AND TWO YEARS PRIOR WENT AND THREATENED SOMEONE WITH A GUN WHO HE THOUGHT STOLE HIS TRUCK).
THE PERPS BROKE INTO THE HOUSE TO RETALIATE AND ONLY SHOT IHIM IN THE LEGS, I THINK THEY WERE TRYING TO END HIS FOOTBALL CAREER CAUSE HE’S A RUNNER, AND NOT KILL HIM (DUMMIES FORGOT PEOPLE CAN DIE FROM GUNSHOT WOUND TO LEG IF IT HITS THAT MAIN ARTERY).
I DON’T THINK THEY WANTED TO KILL HIM, AND THAT’S WHY THEY DIDN’T HURT HIS GIRLFRIEND OR BABY, CAUSE LET’S FACE IT, THESE DAYS PERPS GET IN, AND THEY KILLIN EVERYBODY.
SORRY ABOUT THE LONG HYPOTHESIS, BUT SOMETHINGS ARE SO SENSELESS THAT SOMETIMES IT HELPS ME TO TRY TO MAKE SOME SENSE OF OUT IT…..CAUSE OTHER THAN THAT, I DON’T UNDERSTAND THIS AT ALL AND IT JUST MAKES ME ANGRY….
WHATEVER THE STORY, SEAN DIDN’T DESERVE THIS….VIOLENCE IS NEVER A SOLUTION….
RIP SEAN, MY THOUGHTS ARE WITH THE FAMILY.

I’m not even going to get into all this speculation about what happened because I don’t know. There may have been some dirt done on both parts, but GOD knows what happened and HE is and always will be the true judge in the end. I heard that Sean turned his life around after he had his daughter, which for the most part, is the only thing that matters. But like one person said, your past always comes back to haunt you in one form or another. Sad story.

ThinkAboutIt said: “These young athletes are targets - they work hard at their craft, only to be faced with do nothing folks, who have no ambition, goals or morals, and live only to take away what somebody else has worked for. There have been an increase of home invasions on young black athletes - Antoine Walker, Eddy Curry, DeShawn Stevenson.”
This murder sounded more like a “gang-wars” than “home invasions” or robbery! All of these people are acquainted with each other and usually fighting over chicken-heads, drug or money! Maybe the term “home invasion” can apply, but not in the random sense. I hardly believe DeShawn was fast asleep during his ordeal!!
These types of incidents should make parents feel relieved that their son or daughter didn’t make it into the big leagues! Young athletes become targets when they flash the cash and try to run with the Big Dawgs. The strip clubs, night-life and bars belong to the thugs! A young man with million$ need to avoid the underground! You don’t see this $#!T happening to young women athletes, because they have common sense to avoid trouble or they only get into cat fights!!
Don’t label them as victims or targets until you know all the facts! And, the majority of cases like Sean’s and DeShawn’s are not random, but attitudes and disrespect among acquaintences! Most of them don’t have to work hard at their craft to make into the Pros! The athleticism for black men is a gift from God and all we do is use what He gave us! Competing and winning comes easy for most of us! Much easier than going to College to get some knowledge!
So, we fall further behind!!!

#96 I am fortunately a female. What i’m saying is just because I listen to rap does not make me a violent criminal. I am far from that. As a matter of fact I have a high position in the corporate world. The excuse lies on us, not the rap music. I am a mother of 3 teenage boys, 19, 17 and 15 who also listen to rap and yes I allow them to listen to it. Why shield them from it when they are going to hear it out in the street or from family and friends anyway. But not once have i been to school for my child/children being disruptive or have any on them being suspended from school or accused of disrespecting authority or anyone for that matter. My son is a freshman at an HBCU and doing quite well I might add. My other son is a senior and participates in various activities at shcool and the other is a freshman in high shcool and plays various sports.I give all the Glory to GOD for the way that they are. but it is also because every since they were little i taught them Morals and Values of respecting themselves and more importantly others and the Value you of life. I always to them the are not the giver of life so they have no right to take it away except in the case of self defense. So yes, at the end of the day it all comes down to home training. You can never say what your child will or want do but it starts from the home.

You’re right, they may not be random, because people know who they are, what they have and where and how they live. The DeShawn Stevenson case suggest that he invited some woman from the club over, so no he wasn’t asleep. But the point is, if they didn’t have the $$$, they wouldn’t be getting robbed, and because they are high profile and because they are still hanging out and dealing with some folk that mean no good they do make themselves more vunerable.
They could protect themselves by making better choices, no doubt, but that doesn’t change the fact that somebody is taking from them what is their’s - their money, their jewels - Their Life.

What are ya’ll, two of those women in the church that want to usurp the authority of a man, lmao. The topic is Sean Taylor but you’re talking about a curse word that I used at the end of two paragraphs. Instead of worrying about that, you should be more concerned with your woeful reading comprehension skills. I didn’t say to not judge, I said that black people say to not judge. Read it again and let it marinate, lol. In regards to cursing, it’s a bad habit but many men of the Lord used foul language, but most of you church people are stuck on the frosting instead of the cake (Isa 6:5, II Cor 11:6)

“Sean was awakened with his girlfriend and 18-month old baby,” Sharpstein said. There were “noises, thumps in the living room.” Taylor “got up and locked the bedroom door. Before he could do anything, the door was kicked in and two shots were fired — one hit him in the leg, one went into the wall.”
Taylor “was on the floor, non-responsive, bleeding out and chest heaving, eyes rolled back and he was pretty much gone from that point on,” Sharpstein said.
Taylor’s girlfriend “tried to call 911 and it’s unclear whether the phone lines were cut or the phone was broken or off or unplugged or turned off,” said Sharpstein. “She had to use her cell phone to eventually call 911.”
“Whether this was a purposeful action in taking Sean’s life or in shooting him or whether it was a burglary gone awry, the police are still investigating those circumstances,” Sharpstein said.
The attorney said Taylor was home unexpectedly due to an injury, and “no one expected him there.”
“I think he was surprised or they were surprised to find him there,” Sharpstein said.
Lt. Nancy Perez with the Miami-Dade Police Department said investigators were looking for an “unknown suspect.”
Taylor’s home also was reported broken into eight days earlier on November 18, according to Miami-Dade police.
During that incident, someone forced open a window and left a kitchen knife on a bed, according to the police report. Several drawers and a bedroom safe had been searched during the break-in, the report said.
No one knows whether the first invasion is related to Monday’s attack, Sharpstein said. “It is a high probability that it was the same people or some related people that returned.”
According to the police report, Taylor’s mother reported the break-in, saying it occurred while the house was empty. Police found a window pried open, but could not confirm if anything was missing.
Observers searching for a motive for his killing put Taylor’s police record under renewed scrutiny. In 2005, he was arrested after he was accused of waving a gun at people he believed were stealing his all-terrain vehicles, according to Sharpstein.
“He got into fisticuffs, but no gun,” Sharpstein said.
After originally being charged with aggravated assault, Taylor pleaded to a misdemeanor battery in the case, Sharpstein said. A civil suit stemming from the case remains open. “There’s still a lot of open ends to that,” he said.

They don’t get robbed because they have the money…! I believe they get robbed because they flash it and they enter into bad relationships with leaches and thugs! Most of these “Pro” night-lifers hit the strip clubs and hire prostitutes as soon as the game is over. Only Kobe tried to take his from the hotel staff!
How do you take money from someone who has their money in the bank? How can you take jewels from someone who can afford a home safe? I think these men are vunerable by choice! They get robbed and disrespected when the flash and use people!
The “enemy” comes to kill and destroy like a theif in the night! That’s his job! There are men and women who get to be rich by taking wealth from the simple-minded and weak! Selena was killed by her assistant, Yolanda Saldivar who thought Selena owed her something! Too many crazy people out there!
Nothing is sadder than a young person’s life getting cut short, but power and fame ain’t nothing to play with!! DeShawn was raised by a single mom! His story is a one in a million! His father has watched everyone of his games from a cell! He started his career with a rape charge on a minor! He just don’t get it!!!
Again, young athletes have the wealth of an old man, but the mind and understanding of youngsters! Money and immaturity don’t mix! It took Michael Jordan a lifetime to learn his lessons and he still lost his father, gambled off millions and now divorced! I consider him a wise man with his wealth, but I don’t wish his troubles on anyone!
There’s more to these stories than we’ll ever know!

It’s just unfortunate that the police and media have to call it “home invasion” and “robbery” when no one is willing to press charges or give eye witness testimony!
Makes it seem so random and senseless when if fact, these young men are making their own beds hard! Micheal Vick, Ray Carruth and Kobe lost millions because of bad decisions and associates!! And now, we lose a life!

REDSKIN FAN 4 LIFE!
Tuesday, November 27, 2007 /
THIS HAS TRULY BEEN ON MY MIND ALL DAY. SEAN TAYLOR WAS SUCH A GREAT FOOTBALL PLAYER. ALTHOUGH IT WAS A HOME INVASION, I SWEAR I THINK THAT THIS WAS THE WORK OF A HIT MAN OR A FORMER FRIEND, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE PAST ATTEMPTED ROBBERY AT THE SAME ADDDRESS. I REALLY WISH HE HAD SECURTY AT THAT HOME. ONLY GOD KNOWS. HE WAS A VICTIM OF THIS SICK ASS SOCIETY THAT IS TAKING ALL OF OUR SUCCESSFUL BROTHERS AS WELLAS OUR BROTHERS WITH POTENTIAL. MY HEART GOES OUT TO HIS FAMILY, FIANCE’ AND BABY-GIRL JACKIE (WHOM HE LOVED SO MUCH). SEAN WAS A TRUE REDSKIN THAT ADDED CLASS AND LOT OF LUV TO HIS FRIENDS AND FANS IN THE DC/MD/VA AREA. YOU WILL BE MISSED…..RIP SEAN-2007.

On November 26, 2007, at 1:45 AM., Taylor was shot in the upper leg by an armed intruder at his Palmetto Bay home, critically wounding him by severing his femoral artery. His girlfriend tried to call police from the house line, only to discover the line had been cut, and proceeded to call 911 from her cell phone, which delayed response time.
definitely does not sound random or like a burglary. sounds like he was targeted.
second NFL player to be shot and killed this year.
both my niece and nephew have had murders on their college campuses.
at least two college athletes include one in miami also killed at school.
people what the fuck????

My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest In Peace Mr. Sean Taylor…He is from my hometown, Miami and the local news stations are really focusing on his death however supposedly detectives don’t have the intruder in custody. Its really sad and unexpected because last night his father held a press conference at jackson and he was saying that taylor was responsive so everyone was optimistic about a speedy recovery, i know i was. its the fact that the bullet hit a major femoral artery so his blood wasnt receiving enough oxygen so thats when organs begin to fail.

and it is reported that someone had burglarized his home either 8 days ago or on nov.17 so this act may very well be correlated.

Whatever the circumstances may be surrounding this talented man’s death, lets remember that his life was cut short and now a baby girl has no father. It depresses me to see another black man killed violently and yet people assumes that he was a drug dealer and blah blah. As a football fan this hurts me to my soul because he was the third or fourth (correct me if I’m wrong) nfler to die within a year and it saddens me. Thats all I have to say.

@125
Once again sis, the topic is Sean Taylor, not me. Do you have anything pertinent to say on his murder? I’m not going to go back and forth with you because honestly, you obviously don’t have anything to say and you gravitated to my comment because you’re perplexed that there are still black people that can analyze a serious situation without saying, “That’s so sad…”, or “Wow!”, lol. Let’s keep it real though, you’ve been reading my comments for awhile, getting vexed more and more, and you couldn’t hold it in any longer. Lol. You’re going to continue to only agitate yourself because I’m a man and I speak how a man is supposed to speak, not like those effeminate negroes in your church (if you’re even black). The scriptures speak on the tongue and it also speaks on how a woman should dress and conduct herself. Do you follow those precepts or was that for “back then”, lol?
You want my identity? Why? If you want a picture just ask, lol. If you want to be taught, give me your email and stop being rebellious. That “the devil quotes scripture” nonsense is getting so tired and it’s something that bible-thumpers say when they run into someone who really knows what they’re talking about (Matt 12:24-27). One of the main reasons why these black men continue to kill each other is because there are so few real black men that stand for anything and so many sisters that try to strongarm black men because the white man has their back. It’s sad.

meat….you’re talking about deshawn stevenson, not sean taylor…..
no matter what eventually transpires, this is the loss of yet another young black man……in the prime of his life and career. sean taylor and everyone else’s family, freinds and associates who’ve had to suffer through this kind of senseless crime….my heart goes out to you.
this year in particular, there are many, many, many sean taylors….and that is the saddest part.

It depresses all of us to know that Sean’s life has been cut short, but the circumstances surrounding his murder suggest that is was “blah blah” and not a home invasion! Rarely do these things happen randomly! Sean’s legs were his bread and butter and someone tried to end his career, but what they didn’t intend to do was commit murder! And, the motive for such a crime is never about robbery! Thevies want to take your stuff and make clean get aways! They never want to use violence or force. Only someone with a evil vendeta or ulterior motive would stoop so low!
It doesn’t tarnish is image for those who knew and loved him! It only serves as a warning to other pro athletes that it’s time to live up to the blessings they receive! To those who much is given…much is required! If you are blessed to make millions, you can’t keep hanging out in the hood and kickin it with “DoRay” nem! Stay on a different level!
It’s no secret that a majority of the pro athletes, get high, get drunk, use steriods, gamble heavy, strip club experts, and they squeeze on as many shorties as they can! That lifestyle is very common for black and white pros!
Sometimes they get in too deep!
Now, we can close our eyes and pretend that this was a random invasion, but the clearer message can be used to help someone like Labron James or Dwight Howard or Randy Moss! Even though Kobe was aquitted, his rape case sent a clear message to all Pros that they are not above the law!

phone lines cut…killer kicks the door in and fires two shots…it doesnt sound like a home invasion or robbery to me.
I dont follow fb but I was shocked when I heard that he didnt make it. Such a horrible waste of life.
You can chase money all your life, get it and die the next day. He earned his but there’s millions of folks out there hustlin’ in unrighteous ways for paper, forsaking family and their own souls-you think this will make them think twice?

am I the only one that thinks this story is too fabricated??
I think they need to look within the home to find out what really happened because this makes little sense to me.

I was having a friendly exchange with #33 Thinkaboutit! She said that: “There have been an increase of home invasions on young black athletes - Antoine Walker, Eddy Curry, DeShawn Stevenson.”
I just told her that a home invasion or robbery has the implication of a “burglary gone awry!” And, in both incidents nothing was stolen! Only a life! So, in response to her comment above, I was talking about Deshawn, Sean and Diddy too, if he says someone came into his home to take his jewelry!
Sorry, if we strayed to far from your center!
