NEWS: Update on Latasha Norman (Missing JSU Student)
Friday, November 30, 2007

I’m sure you all heard the horrible news about Latasha Norman late Thursday. Her ex-boyfriend has been charged with her murder. Read on:
The ex-boyfriend of a JSU student missing since Nov. 13 has been charged with killing her, officials say.
Stanley Cole, 24, is suspected in the slaying of Latasha Norman.
A body found this afternoon off Brown Street in north Jackson is that of Norman, Jackson Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jeffery Scott confirmed late today.
The remains were found around 2 p.m. in a wooded area on Brown Street near County Line Road.
Cole, a criminal justice major at JSU, was in a Pearl court early Thursday for a hearing into charges he struck Norman Oct. 9 at a restaurant in Pearl. He was later taken into custody for further questioning in Norman’s disappearance.
Cole, whom Scott had termed “a person of Interest” a few hours earlier, was formally charged with murder after Norman’s body was found.
Cole apparently led police to the body.
The university, which spearheaded vigils and other events to keep Norman’s disappearance in the news, has cancelled classes Friday in her honor. [ READ MORE ]
On behalf of the Concrete Loop family I would like to extend our condolences to the Norman family at this horrible time.

I am livid because CNN, CBS News, or the Today Show did not mention Latasha’s disappearance in their newscasts since she went missing. Correct me if I’m wrong. Instead, they continued to focus on that white Kansas girl who missing around the same and led a double life as a porn actress.

My prayers go out to the family. Unfornately, this happens more often than not with women and ex-boyfriends/husbands. It is usually the person that the women had a violent history with that is most likely the responsible party. the leading cause of death among pregnant women is homicide by the father of their child. Ladies please learn a lesson from this. if you are in a abusive relationship, do not assume that the man will just stop or go away. you never know what someone is capable of when they are pushed to the edge. if someone is violent with you or even threatens you, tell the police, and tell your family members. Don’t be ashmed because of what happened to you…the more people are aware of your situation than the more likely you will be able to stay alive!

#11 I just heard about that this morning. Everyone needs Jesus. My condolences to the family and friends of this woman who was struck down in her prime. Why can’t some men just walk away and leave that prior relationship alone; I swear you never know what the true soul of some people that you meet in this world…until it’s too late. May God be with us all.

I know that vengence is the Lord’s but I am really mad!!! Such a loss and waste for a beautiful young woman to die like that. I am really at a loss of about how Black women in general are being treated.
I am telling you sistas I really feel like we are at a cross roads in Black America
1. seven times likely to graduate college than Black men
2. 68% of Black women having kids out of marriage
3. More likely to not get married

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Norman Family. This is a truly sad event. I am double saddened because the same thing happened to a fellow classmate of mine, Marquita Smith. On wednesday, this was the local news headline:
http://www.todaysthv.com/...s/news.aspx?storyid=56806
This morning, they arrested her boyfriend. He claims they got into an arguement and he killed her, then hid her body at an abandoned house! I am truly sadden by these events and I just dont understand why! There are a lot of crazy people out there!!! What is going on in this world today???

Having been in a violent relationship in the past, this saddens my heart to know what she was going thru and then for it to end in death. He’s going to hell! She is at peace now. It is totally unacceptable for us women to go thru this. Its hard enough being a black woman as it is, then you have to worry about the man who is supposed to be your “king” beating your ass because of his own damn insecurities! It just makes me sick!!!

No there hasn’t been wide coverage on her story. Unfortunately( I work in law enforcement) often in cases involving minority women, the boyfriend, ex-husband or husbad is typically the #1 suspect so often the case doesn’t get a lot of coverage in the media. Black/Latina women especially have to look more closely at the people we surround ourselves because Domestic violence among us is out of control. I have had 2 cousins murdered by their husbands–one was a police officer and so was her estranged husband. RIP Ms. Norman

#48 - I totally and completely agree. No one is looking out for us but us.
My mom says that all these killings are signs of the apocalypse. But I’m wondering if there is really more killing going on, or its the same as its always been but technology is giving us more access to what’s going on in more parts of the country/world.
My heart really goes out to the family though, RIP and may God look after her family during such a difficult time.

I am a student at JSU and we are deeply saddened to hear of Latasha Norman’s death. I was hoping and praying for her safe return, she is with the Lord now. My deepest condolescences go out to Latasha’s family and friends.
I knew and was suspcious of the ex-boyfriend all along. There was just too much evidence pointing to him, especially him withdrewing from the university the same exact day she went missing and the charges that were against him for hitting her last month. I hope that bastard gets what he deserves.
Ladies please be cautious of whoever you let into your lives. At the first sign or warning of possible abuse, GET OUT. You never know what some of these people are capable off when pushed over the edge.

If a man/woman makes what seems like a credible threat please please report it immediately, don’t want for them to harm you. So many men/women think it is going to get better and they won’t actually harm them. The Devil is a Liar. You never know what someone will do these days. Did ya’ll hear about the man who was married to his wife of 39 years, abused her the whole 39 years of their marriage and then she finnally gets the nerve to leave him and he kills the two daughters and himself. I say sick sick world we live in. I am single scared to date. I have children and I think about my children before anything. I think I would just rather stay single. It’s crazy!
My very sincere condolences go out to Tasha’s family. That is such a tradegy. I have been the victim of a loved one / fiance getting murdered and it is a feeling that cannot be described. The emotions are so different than that of someone dying of a disease or natural causes. At least they have closure and know who did it. Now their hearts can one day RIP. Only time will heal this kind of wound but trust that she will never be forgotten. It so many unanswered questions like did she suffer or what were her last words , did she beg for her life all these questions will haunt her family for the rest of their lives and that is a tradegy within itself. This man don’t know the kind of pain he has caused. Not only to her family but probably to his as well.

That is so sad. I don’t understand why so many young black men have such little regard for life. There was no reason for this young lady to be killed.
I know there was a popular song out once upon a time that stated I need a soldier and stating how they want a thug and all that crapt, but, these young ladies have got to learn that nothing good can come from being around a person like that. Nothing but abuse.
Now two lives are gone. Hers because she is no longer here and his because he will be in jail for the rest of his life if he does not get the death penalty. We have to stop this.

This is happening so often. People we all need to pray and get right with GOD. As far as the white media we as black people need to boycott the news. I listen to the Tom Joiner show that’s how I heard about it. Or go to this site or Black America web. We have to stop watching their shows and maybe they we see we are important. Watch more of TVOne and learn more about our own race. Main thing we as black people need to stick together and stop killing each other. The war isn’t overseas it’s right here within our own race. GOD please have mercy on our souls.
