NEWS: Update on Latasha Norman (Missing JSU Student)

I’m sure you all heard the horrible news about Latasha Norman late Thursday. Her ex-boyfriend has been charged with her murder. Read on:

The ex-boyfriend of a JSU student missing since Nov. 13 has been charged with killing her, officials say.

Stanley Cole, 24, is suspected in the slaying of Latasha Norman.

A body found this afternoon off Brown Street in north Jackson is that of Norman, Jackson Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jeffery Scott confirmed late today.

The remains were found around 2 p.m. in a wooded area on Brown Street near County Line Road.

Cole, a criminal justice major at JSU, was in a Pearl court early Thursday for a hearing into charges he struck Norman Oct. 9 at a restaurant in Pearl. He was later taken into custody for further questioning in Norman’s disappearance.

Cole, whom Scott had termed “a person of Interest” a few hours earlier, was formally charged with murder after Norman’s body was found.

Cole apparently led police to the body.

The university, which spearheaded vigils and other events to keep Norman’s disappearance in the news, has cancelled classes Friday in her honor. [ READ MORE ]

On behalf of the Concrete Loop family I would like to extend our condolences to the Norman family at this horrible time.

I am even more upset that I have not seen or heard about this case at all on television. And I am a CNN.com/ CNN (the channel) fanatic. My prayers are with her family. RIP

My condolences go out to LaTasha’s family and friends. I so hoped they would find her safe. Although this is not the turnout anyone wanted, at least the family will learn what exactly happened and were able to recover her remains. Hopefully that will begin the healing process and give then some closure.

  5. WHAT A SHAME! SO YOUNG GONE SO SOON. SHE WILL BE IN MY PRAYERS.

  6. Danala

May God Watch over her family and friends. That is so sad. And i leave in Jackson Mississippi too. R.I.P Ms. Latasha Norman.

I just came across another story about a 20 yr old pregnant woman being killed and left in a makeshift grave! How disturbing. Everything points to her child’s father. There really seems like there is no value of life for women these days! It transcends everything….age, race, ethnicity, etc!

My condolences to the Norman family during this difficult time.

  9. I HOPE HER MURDERER IS SLAPPED WITH THE MAX PENALTY AND THEN REMINDED EVERY DAY OF WHAT HE DID.

This is happening so often. People we all need to pray and get right with GOD. As far as the white media we as black people need to boycott the news. I listen to the Tom Joiner show that’s how I heard about it. Or go to this site or Black America web. We have to stop watching their shows and maybe they we see we are important. Watch more of TVOne and learn more about our own race. Main thing we as black people need to stick together and stop killing each other. The war isn’t overseas it’s right here within our own race. GOD please have mercy on our souls.

the more I’m reading about senseless killings the angrying I’m getting.

There’s plausible explanation that can make anyone understand why this guy thought he owned her life.

My thoughts and prayers going out to her loved ones.

Something is just not right with the world. I. The other day my co worker had a gun pulled out on her while she worked at a hotel. The gun was to her head!! Fortunately they just took the money and left. There are some cruel cruel people out here. I dont ever want to be able to understand how a person could take another persons life.

My prayers go out to the family and friends of Ms Norman

  13. sh!t……I knew it was the ex-boyfriend. It don’t take Columbo to solve a case like this.
Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and Jose feliciano could have solve this one.
    And Ray charles is dead.

  14. Leosag

This is sad as hell! My prayers go out to her family. I mean damn, you can’t date no more w/out someone trying to kill you or kill you! WTF??? Seriously, what was going on that this young lady had to die? And this fool who killed had to ruin his life and take hers? What an idiot!

I feel so bad for her and her family.

    People are crazy as hell!

  15. DMV.... I Lost My DAMN Password LOL

I am absolutely heartbroken after hearing about this, as well as Jeanette Michelle Hawes and how she murdered her kids.

My heart has seriously been entirely too full all day.

God Bless these victims as well as their families. They are in a better place now, I know that much.

    RIP

  16. Person of “interest” my ass. They knew from day 1 that idiot killed that girl. If they had done their job maybe they would be reporting that they found her alive but in bad shape instead of dead as a door nail.
And every link I clicked on about “missing student body found” was about that porn chic.
    God bless her family.

  17. Waiting on the World to Change

This is ridiculous! Why are people so aimlessly killing others. There seems to be no reverence for human life anymore and it’s just so sad.

My condolences and prayers go out to the Norman family.

  18. Ione

RIP. I swear I am so tired of hearing bad news it just saddens my heart.

  19. Damn her ex-bf is charged…. if he’s proven to have done it…… why? This is sad.

  20. Brian W

God bless her family. To have Latasha murdered and thrown away like damn trash is just sick. For what? Because this fool had his little feelings hurt?! C’mon now. Grow up.

About the non-existent coverage: Of course it’s racist (as all news is), but I can’t imagine how it would’ve saved her life. This fool planned on abducting and murdering Latasha, not holding her ransom. Besides, we know these black women are murdered by *black men* and if the media covers it, there will be all sorts of people screaming racism b/c they dared to show the suspects. What then?

And it’s not exactly as if the coverage of the murdered white women is truly done out of concern; it’s done to make money. White people like to hear about attractive white women being murdered, just as white people enjoy rap culture b/c it celebrates our death spiral. It’s damn entertainment (“Where’s Stacy?” is put b/w cooking segments or celebrity gossip). The murders are sensationalized!

  21. sunofmoon22

Ya know, it is sad, all over the news, it’s Stacy Peterson and Emily Sander, but not one story has gone up in connection with this poor girl and her family! My sympathy to all families mentioned, but I guess if the case is not interesting no need to mention it!

  22. GOODGIRLGONEBAD

WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THIS I CRIED AS IF SHE WAS MY OWN SISTER OR FRIEND. I JUST HATE SHE LOST HER LIFE FOR SOMETHING SO SENSELESS. SHE WAS ONLY NINETEEN AND NEVER GOT TO LIVE AND EXPERIENCE THE GOOD THINGS LIFE HAS TO OFFER. MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF THIS YOUNG LADY. AND THIS PEA HEAD NUT CAKE HAD A GIRLFRIEND BUT WAS STALKING AND TERRORIZING THIS GIRL. I HOPE HE GETS WHAT HE DESERVE IN PRISON. R.I.P SWEETY. I HATE SHE HAD TO LOSE HER LIFE THIS WAY……SO SAD

^^^^^^ Daaaaaammmmnnn that’s a serious charge against/to the media…..I’ve never heard or seen anyone break it down like that. You’ve got me going hmmmm.

  24. Shameful

I am very very very very sad and disappointed about this recent tragedy. I am disappointed because the media did not represent the way they should have in this case. I am also disappointed because the guy that did this horrible crime is my classmate!! It saddens me because Latasha was young. We all went to the same highschool and for him to have done such a horrible thing just surprises me! I will keep Latasha and her family in my prayers!!!

  25. Tramaine Richardson

R.I.P Latasha Norman coming from your fellow Jackson State classmate
