NEWS: Update on Latasha Norman (Missing JSU Student)

Friday, November 30, 2007

I’m sure you all heard the horrible news about Latasha Norman late Thursday. Her ex-boyfriend has been charged with her murder. Read on:

The ex-boyfriend of a JSU student missing since Nov. 13 has been charged with killing her, officials say.

Stanley Cole, 24, is suspected in the slaying of Latasha Norman.

A body found this afternoon off Brown Street in north Jackson is that of Norman, Jackson Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jeffery Scott confirmed late today.

The remains were found around 2 p.m. in a wooded area on Brown Street near County Line Road.

Cole, a criminal justice major at JSU, was in a Pearl court early Thursday for a hearing into charges he struck Norman Oct. 9 at a restaurant in Pearl. He was later taken into custody for further questioning in Norman’s disappearance.

Cole, whom Scott had termed “a person of Interest” a few hours earlier, was formally charged with murder after Norman’s body was found.

Cole apparently led police to the body.

The university, which spearheaded vigils and other events to keep Norman’s disappearance in the news, has cancelled classes Friday in her honor. [ READ MORE ]

On behalf of the Concrete Loop family I would like to extend our condolences to the Norman family at this horrible time.

Person of “interest” my ass. They knew from day 1 that idiot killed that girl. If they had done their job maybe they would be reporting that they found her alive but in bad shape instead of dead as a door nail.
And every link I clicked on about “missing student body found” was about that porn chic.
God bless her family.

This is ridiculous! Why are people so aimlessly killing others. There seems to be no reverence for human life anymore and it’s just so sad.

My condolences and prayers go out to the Norman family.

God bless her family. To have Latasha murdered and thrown away like damn trash is just sick. For what? Because this fool had his little feelings hurt?! C’mon now. Grow up.

About the non-existent coverage: Of course it’s racist (as all news is), but I can’t imagine how it would’ve saved her life. This fool planned on abducting and murdering Latasha, not holding her ransom. Besides, we know these black women are murdered by *black men* and if the media covers it, there will be all sorts of people screaming racism b/c they dared to show the suspects. What then?

And it’s not exactly as if the coverage of the murdered white women is truly done out of concern; it’s done to make money. White people like to hear about attractive white women being murdered, just as white people enjoy rap culture b/c it celebrates our death spiral. It’s damn entertainment (”Where’s Stacy?” is put b/w cooking segments or celebrity gossip). The murders are sensationalized!

Ya know, it is sad, all over the news, it’s Stacy Peterson and Emily Sander, but not one story has gone up in connection with this poor girl and her family! My sympathy to all families mentioned, but I guess if the case is not interesting no need to mention it!

WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THIS I CRIED AS IF SHE WAS MY OWN SISTER OR FRIEND. I JUST HATE SHE LOST HER LIFE FOR SOMETHING SO SENSELESS. SHE WAS ONLY NINETEEN AND NEVER GOT TO LIVE AND EXPERIENCE THE GOOD THINGS LIFE HAS TO OFFER. MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF THIS YOUNG LADY. AND THIS PEA HEAD NUT CAKE HAD A GIRLFRIEND BUT WAS STALKING AND TERRORIZING THIS GIRL. I HOPE HE GETS WHAT HE DESERVE IN PRISON. R.I.P SWEETY. I HATE SHE HAD TO LOSE HER LIFE THIS WAY……SO SAD

Shameful

I am very very very very sad and disappointed about this recent tragedy. I am disappointed because the media did not represent the way they should have in this case. I am also disappointed because the guy that did this horrible crime is my classmate!! It saddens me because Latasha was young. We all went to the same highschool and for him to have done such a horrible thing just surprises me! I will keep Latasha and her family in my prayers!!!
