NIA, SANAA, & GABRIELLE COVER ESSENCE & TALK ABOUT GOSSIP BLOGS
Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan, and Gabrielle Union cover the newest issue of Essence Magazine. The actresses spoke candidly about gossip blogs and I give a response. Check for that after the cut.
Essence: How do you deal with the 24-hours-a-day gossip that comes out on the Internet?
Gabrielle: Just last week somebody gave me a baby. This isn’t Perez Hilton or the White gossip people, these are women of color, specifically Black women who, for whatever reason, don’t like the company I keep.Sanaa: She’s talking about the gossip sites.
Essence: The blogs.
Sanaa: That are run by Black women.
Gabrielle: And now because everyone is clamoring for celebrity tidbits, the bigger gossip sites and even mainstream entities are picking up on it. No fact-checking, no nothing. And in one week’s time, there were like five different dudes, a baby—I’m a homewrecker. In literally seven days. I can’t point the finger at the White media. They don’t care about us. Paparazzi are not staked out in front of any of our houses. They are not going through our garbage because they don’t care about us in that way. So when you hear crap about us, it is coming from our own community, which hurts.
Nia: We are some of the few Black actresses whose passions are rooted in our community.
Gabrielle: There is this idea that there is integrity in journalism; if it’s written it has to be true. But that’s not the case. When blogs or any of the magazines get it wrong, there’s no accountability. In the next breath, they’ll complain on the blogs that we don’t have enough Black stars. Well, you rip us to shreds every two seconds from our nose to the weave to the clothes to the shoes to the ashy ankles. [ SOURCE ]
I would have to disagree with what Gabrielle Union said about bigger sites coming to our blogs and getting info. Actually all the gossip we have ever posted about her was from Page Six or some other “popular” gossip site. From the Darren Sharper slow dance to the Derek Jeter rumor, all were Page Six. And to be blunt, I don’t pull rumors out my ass just for the sake of it. I always try to have a source.
As a young black woman heading a popular black blog, I take offense to what she said. We try hard to make it clear what is a rumor and what is fact. We also try to show everyone in a positive light. We cannot control what is said in the comments, only moderate them. Don’t generalize all the black blogs as if we all are out to attack. She name dropped Perez Hilton, but couldn’t name drop what black blog she was specifically talking about? How convenient.
It’s whatever! I really do like that cover though.

I think Gabby shouldn’t be bashing black blogs, especially since like Angel said they are not all run by black women. I feel that CL is very objective (in some ways more than others); I don’t see Angel bashing celebs on here the way Perez or the guy from D-List does.

I think CL is not like many of the other blog sites that run rampant with any and every rumor. Alot of other sites just go for broke on the stars with so called info from un-named sources. CL doesn’t do that. One of the main ones are MTO and that site is managed by a Black dude. I read about him in JET magazine a few weeks ago.
I do agree with her saying that people talk about their “ashy ankles” and what not, but that us the posters.LOL Hey Gabby it is what it is girl. They say if people ain’t talking about you then your not doing something right. Take it as a compliment.

Therefore, people who read Essence who don’t know anything about CL will look at the site all side-eyed. As if saying, just because this is a blog it HAS to be a negative thing.

Hold Up!
I did not read that snippet before my first comment. Like she said none of the mainstream white celeb blogs “care about her like that” so she should be glad somebody is even talking about her. Some of the blogs go to far (mediatakeout) but you can look at those stories an tell they are fake nobody believes them and if she read the comments she would see that. Sure people poke and make fun but that’s part of the industry she is in and it aint gone stop for her. So get over it.

Why do you take offense to what gabby said since she clearly was not talking about concreteloop? You guys are not ran by all black women….if you read her first comment, it seems as if she’s talking about “a particular site”….that’s what i got from it…but it got confusing cause sanaa can’t pipping in saying the black women bit…
I mean i could be wrong, but i could swear she’s not talking about concreteloop cause you guys always shows her love….and you don’t bash her at all.

Regarding Gabrielle’s comments - there is always a problem when you generalize.
Not all blogs are run by women or African Americans - and the mainstream media cast as much aspersions as anyone else.
I understand her frustration, but her generalization is doing the same thing she claims is being done to her — kicking dirt with facts.

I can understand where your anger is coming from but you also have to realize that not everybody feels that way. I am a loyal reader and will continue to be. If gabby doesn’t like how she is portrayed she can do several things to change her image: stop hanging out and all over married men, stop partying so hard, etc….

I do think you are being sensitive Angel. I agree with Gabby. Every week I have seen her potrayed as a hoe, with a new man or some other mess by black blogs. Just because she didn’t make a laundry list of those sites, doesn’t mean she meant you. Like Jay said once, you case a wide net and if you feel guilty it’s probably ‘coz you are. You’re not guilty so it shouldn’t sway you at all. Sites like Bossip and YBF though, need to check themselves. Let’s support our community…especially beautiful black women

Angel is right. Everyone knows that the main sites that bash Gabby and them aren’t even operated by black woman, or black people for that matter. And Gabby kicks it with the white folk, so her business hits Page Six like crazy.
I can understand why Angel would be offended. CL is one of the hottest blogs on the net, but they get no love from the mass media. Take for example Perez HIlton (who Gabrielle just shouted out whether she liked it our not). His layout is garbage and he is making millions. CL’s layout is top class, effienct, and well put together. And I know they ain’t making no millions. They could have easily gone the Mediatakeout route this year, but decided to switch it up.
And can we say the candid posts are to die for? Imagine doing that every day. I’m a photoshop pro, so I know those posts aren’t easy to do and are tedious, but Angel holds it down. Tianna and Brian also make sure to have their posts together. I don’t think Angel was “feeling herself too much” when she stated her opinion, she was basically right.

I think CL does a great job of just posting the photos and keeping personal views on how the celebs look to themselves. I have never read anything negative on here. The only time something that could be perceived as bad is said is when Brian talks about the new music and his ear is so good that he is usually CORRECT that a song is wack. Gabrielle has a personal issue with a particular site or 2 that linked her to Dwayne Wade and Chaka Zulu. She needs to address that particular black woman and then commend the other black women run sites that continually support her. I think the blogs have actually helped more of these actresses than they have hurt.

@ ANGELA…….
No offense to Angela but I’m sorry I do not think that Gabby was referring to your blog at all. I’m a publicist in the industry and most entertainment celebrity love your site because it is very informative. It also my favorite site to visit because there is an integrity about this blog site that other blog sites lack. So please do not take what Gabrielle Union said the wrong way because I agree with her. I am a publicist who loves to travel, party, and I have a lot of celebrity friends. We all like to party and have a good time but just because I’m at a football players party, a basketball player’s party, an actor’s party, or and any entertainment figure’s party doesn’t mean that I am dating any of them. What people do not understand is the fact that if you are in the industry you tend to hang out with other industry friends because we can understand each other’s way of living. Don’t get me wrong, I have my separate friends who I grew up with and we don’t hang much because they like to hang out at the clubs I use to hang out with when I wasn’t in the industry. I also have my industry friends who I hang out with and we can all afford to travel, vacation, a party hop having a good time because that is what our lives consists of. If you only knew how many opportunities I got from partying!!! People have no idea and if you are not in the industry, you would never understand.

Perez Hilton bashes people of all color so you can’t say he only bashes Blacks, He Likes Kanye, Alicia, Jhud , Halle, Rihanna. He hates Beyonce. So yeah it is MOSTLY the Black blogs. To me I agree that it is the comment sections. Look at the one before this one. People are hating on Bee and Jhud.
Anyway I saw that Black Carpet event too last week and Gabrielle was compaining about blogs saying that people in general should focus on more important issues and why is everyone so wrapped up in celebrities personal lives.

Why would you be offended when she may not be talking specifically about you? I read this site diligently and I have noticed that you guys try to be positive and try to keep from making certain (negative) comments that I see on OTHER blogs. She may or may not be right about what she said but maybe something prompted her to say what she said. The fact that she didn’t specifically name a blog does not negate the fact that there are some blogs that make comments that aren’t true. You are not one of them so why are you offended for the “masses?” Can you speak for them?

The bloggers are the ones that nit pit and talk trash about the celebs posted on here, and get in heated discussions about them. But, sites like this, provide a forum for it. But, it’s Free Speech, so whatever. if I were a celeb, i’d never visit blog sites, b/c I’m sure it’d be a real downer.

I also agree with what Gabby said…some bloggers will tear a woman down from their weaves to their shoes…I didn’t get the impression she was saying ALL celebrity sites run by black women…she just said…some bigger gossip sites and Sanaa said “run by black women”, but that is the nature of the business she’s in…and I’m sure she has tough skin to handle it…but that doesn’t mean she can’t voice her frustration and have to “go sit down and shut up” somewhere…that’s the very things she’s addressing…people tearing her (black women) down…
I understand your frustration Angel…but if you don’t feel you’ve done anything then there’s no reason to take offense…if we as black women took offense to every time someone makes a “generalization” about us we would continuously walk around mad.

GABRIELLE never said she was talking bout concreteloop. Most black celebrities give props to concreteloop like Kanye and many others.
I do agree with Gabby because anytime she takes a pic with a dude - they are dating. Its like we are in kindergarten all over again, girls cant hang with boys because they got COOTIES. She cant take pictures with men? It doesnt mean she is FUCKING them! Than they should say she is a lesbian too because she take more pics with female celebs. And to take a pic only takes 2 seconds. Pictures can speak a thousand words but actually mean nothing

Keep your head up. The Black Elite Establishment is terrified about Black bloggers because we are not part of the click and the Hollywood establishment can’t control us. As a Black woman who blogs, I am offended with you. She ought to be glad someone is talking about her at all. I haven’t seen anything malicious written about her. Just out of curiousity, are you a subscriber to Essence? My mother and I have received the magazine for the last 15 years and the color scheme has never been in favor of light skinned Blacks. They do feature on singers, actresses and models in a variety of colors. Essence prides themselves on that. Just go to the archieves and see for yourself. If anyone out there is showing us the darker sistas some love, it’s Essence. Their beauty editor is a dark skinned sista so I doubt the ‘light is right’ thing is an issue. IMO. No disrespect.

Well I agree with BOTH Gabrielle and ANGEL….
I agree with Angel about her BLOG being responsible (it’s one of the only black blogs I visit) and TASTEFUL. I think that they try to get people facts about celebs and when it’s a rumor, they will say so. I think CL is a great site. I don’t come here as much for the celebrity gossip (cause I can care less about somebodies life that I don’t know), I like the FASHION and MUSIC posts. I think what messes this site up is the constant arguing that goes on in the comment section. Its over the top. smh
As far as GABRIELLE, I understand where she is coming from because I think some people just can’t wait to talk sh*t about or to people on the Internet. It’s sad. I can understand leaving a comment, but some people just sound hateful, and it’s NOT that serious. I can understand what she says, how people say there are not enough black stars, but people tear down the ones that are. For example; whenever people happen to talk about celebs around me, I have never heard of anyone say anything NEGATIVE about HALLE BERRY. It wasn’t untill I started coming to some black blog sites that I seen how ignorant people can be. Talk about her being bi-racial, her personnal life, it’s almost like people can’t wait to hate. It get’s old. It’s sad because HALLE seems like a decent, genuine person and some black folks (especially females) can’t wait to try to cut her down over simple stuff. I feel like people should focus their negative energy to the real @ssholes in that business, because it’s more then apperent that their are quite a few, and quit attacking the people that seem like good people. Gabrielle seems like a good person, so I hope she doesn’t take too much of this stuff to heart and brush it off. People say “well they are celebs, that comes with the territory”…does it? Since when has it been so acceptible to bash people and attack people personally based on their profession? What’s even more sad is that people use that “well they are celebs” statement as an excuse to be nasty and ignorant. Ive seen people talk about some people’s FAMILY MEMBERS and other nonsense and they know good and well if someone talked about their family they would be ready to fight. But it’s okay for them to say whatever. Half the things said on these sites people wouldn’t say to anyones face, you’re not fooling anyone. One thing i’ve learned sinse reading these blogs is that people feel comfortible sitting behind a computer talking crazy to and about people. Half the time, it’s not a good look.

To Angel,
Your blog is classy compared to other blogs out there. I’m surprised that Gabby and other celeb’s have time to read blogs they claim put them down. If they dont like what bloggers are saying, STOP READING THEM. You cant control what people say on blogs. You highlight a subject, then bloggers run away it a lot of times. Ridicule and critism is not new to any of these ladies, so why blast African American sites, when you dont have all the facts of who’s actually running these sites? I cant blame you for feeling a little offended, but you have to realize, not everyone, including celebs, are going to like your site. At least you’ve got their attention. Skip them, you all keep up the good work, and in the words of Russell Simmons, “DO YOU”.

Gabby is right… & it was cool of her not to blast what blogs she’s refering to. She’s saying that there is a problem & she’s basically saying that we know where the problem is (without calling out names). Classy move IMO…
& it def doesn’t mean she’s talking about CL so freakin’ relax!

It seems as if she’s a little mad that the “white media” isn’t chasing her down, like she wants the attention. I just see it as if your in hollywood, your going to be talked about good or bad. You should take it with a grain of salt and know it comes with the job. You can’t go and attack black blogs because to be honest you should be happy that they even care enough to do a story on you and give you exposure. Concrete Loop as had many post about Gabrielle Union that weren’t in a negative way. I’ve been reading CL almost everyday for almost 2 years so I know.

Why do black celebrities think that the black community owes them something simply because they’re black? What exactly do black celebrities do for the black community to warrant this unconditional support and respect where supposed to be OBLIGATED to give?
There used to be a time when people like Aretha Franklin and Ruby Dee were marching right alongside MLK. Those days are long gone. Today’s black celebrity is no different than today’s white celebrity - focused on their career and image and force feeding you crappy movies, music and products. I don’t understand why any of these woman should be treated differently from any other celebrity. If you have a problem w/ celebrity gossip, than say that. But to single out black female bloggers, as if they OWE you something, is riduclous. And although I’m not a blogger, as a black female, i find it offensive too!
Ms. Union only felt comfortable saying that because she was singling out black woman. If she talked about white bloggers, they would have responded with: “who the hell are you in the first place”. If she talked about black male bloggers, they would have responsed with “why are you putting the black man down”. But if you attack black female bloggers the general perception is “black woman are crabs inb a barrell and they just catty and jealous”. That’s why she felt comfortable saying that slick mess.
Angel - I suggest you and every other black female blogger honor her request and not post ANYTHING about her. There’s enough black celebes out there to talk about
NEXT!

See…I told you bitches…I told you…I TOLD YOU that there is a such thing as Brown Skinned girls. Sometimes I feel left out of the lightskinned dark/ skinned discussions cause nobody brings up the sistahs in between. Brown skinned girls are that barrier- not quite light…not quite dark…our hair comes in a plethera (did i spell it right) of textures and colors…our eyes..smooth brown like godiva or fresh green mint…*takes a deep breath and smiles* this has made my night.
NO IM NOT TRYNING TO START A COLOR WAR

I’m really torn on this subject…i understand where gabrielle is coming from, but at the same time, when she’s not working on a big movie project or out on the red carpet, pictures that the paparrazi snap is what keeps her fans in touch with her. If some fans haven’t seen her in a while then maybe they will think that she looks different or wonder if she’s dating the person she’s dancing with, etc.
I think that’s it’s really cheap that she’s trying to blame a whole race of bloggers though. Everybody is not out to get gabrielle union and all the other black celebrities.
I like Gabrielle Union..she seems like a beautiful person and a good actress, but I don’t like the way she came off in that interview….if she really hates how she’s portrayed in certain blogs, maybe she should take it up with whatever blog is portraying her that way instead of generalizing black blogs.

WTF, how the hell is this a collectors edition. Essence has the same 10 black woman on their cover every damn year. Was’nt Nia Long on the cover of Essence talking about the fight w/ her baby’s father LAST YEAR. Essence, really needs to recognize, there are other black woman in film and music. I’m sorry, but I’m sick of hearing from the same actress talking about the most ridiculous topics over and over and over again. Essence needs and upgrade - pronto!

She could have kept that shit to herself. A celeb reading gossip sites is just asking for a damn complex. If you think they ate you up before, girl wait until they know they can hurt your feelings.
I dont visit other sites so Angel was the only person that came to mind when I read the comments. If there are a large number of sites being ran by black women then I guess Angel should shake it off. But, I do understand her initial reaction being ” I know she aint talking bout me” Thats just reflex.

The cover is GORGEOUS! These are three of my favorite black actresses (especially Sanaa).
I have to reiterate what Angel said. I think ConcreteLoop seems to be particularly cautious when printing certain rumors. Even when Kanye’s mom died, I noticed that you guys were slow putting it up and I KNOW people were blowing your email up as the rumors started circulating it. You guys didn’t put it up until it was confirmed. I noticed (and appreciated) that. I’ve noticed similar things before. On your “news tips” form, you specifically ask for sources. Since you guys are technically not “journalists” in the traditional sense, you really are holding yourselves to a much higher standard than you need to (although ConcreteLoop is morphing into something more than a “blog”).
I can appreciate the ladies being pissed that people who don’t know them judge them, but white people do the same thing to their celebrities. Sanaa, Nia and Gabby get MUCH love from bloggers AND the public. Even if you do occassionally have ashy ankles (and get called on it), people still love to see you guys. They aren’t treating you any differently than they would if a group of homegirls saw somebody walking down the street with ashy ankles…LMAO. Ya’ll know how we do. Don’t front. Just because you are celebrities, you know black folks will call you out in a minute! LOL As for the pregnancy rumors, those are just triflin’ people, and they come in all colors.

But Angel you gotta admit people on here be tearing black folk down. Because its your blog, it may look like you endorse it. You do have to take some responsibility for what is said on your blog and there are some ignorant bloggers on here sometimes. That said, she never said concreteloop, so don’t be too offended. Now those mystery celebrity gossip things that you do is kinda suspect…EVENTHOUGH you always say it doesn’t come from you, it’s still kinda sketch. I agree with Gabby as well and I understand if she comes across as bitter. Week after week, the media name drops another man that she is supposedly seeing or sleeping with or dating, etc. It can get old although it’s what we the readers are after. We want the juice… real or fake as long as it is entertainment and unfortunately garbage is entertaining…no offense. I think CL is one of the best sites as I read it all day every day. There isn’t always negativity portrayed and oftentimes, the source is revealed. With that said, I don’t think Gabby was specifically targeting one site over another…It should not have been taken offensively as it is her experience for the most part and the question was asked of her and she gave her honest feelings about it. Not to be taken personally, I’m sure. And yes - the Darren Sharper rumor was true. He’s one of my closest friends and they were very much a couple, however they are no longer and she wasn’t a home wrecker…He was very much single when they hooked up. That’s their story - can’t speak for others.

I’m actually kind of disappointed in Gabrielle for that statement. I’ve been a fan of hers for a while because she always came off as intelligent and sophisticated. I never would have pegged her as one to make a comment like that. She almost sounds. . . whiny. Her generalization and poorly thought out response just rubbed me the wrong way. If that’s not how she meant it, then Essence did her dirty. Did anyone else notice that she didn’t even answer the question, which was, “How do you deal with the 24-hours-a-day gossip that comes out on the Internet?” Well, obviously she doesn’t deal with it well. Or, maybe she was just having a rough day.
Gabby, girl, you’re not supposed to let them see you sweat. *tsk tsk*
And, Angel, don’t even sweat it girl. You have every right to be offended, but I think that comment reflects negatively on Gabby more so than it does on you. She didn’t handle that one well. But, everyone makes mistakes. Keep doing what you’re doing because you’re doing it well.

General comments made toward black women are acceptable. How many statements do we see everyday starting with “black women”? They are jealous, they are angry, they are always tearing each other down. Many of the women on this site are not even black but damn near every negative comment posted is credited to a bitter black woman.

I have to say this is one of the blogs that I still subscribe to on my bloglines. I appreciate the information you write. I do recognize and applaud you for showing the source of your information and not just posting opinionated gossip. Maybe you should try not blogging about Gabby for about a month and see how she even notices. Then again, if Gabby was not at everybody and their momma’s party all up in the camera nobody would talk about her. WTH. I think half the time she just wants to be seen. I decided last week when I kept seeing her all up in everybody’s party shot that I was through with her.
Shine on ConcreteLoop! Do what you do! There is no reason why the black blogger should not be getting it and showing the whole world how beautiful our community is. This site goes to show that we can break the stereotypes that news portrays of us on a nightly basis! Be Blessed!

I mean, our black celebs (especially our actresses) are pretty good at keeping their noses clean, so every time one of those tired ass blind items drops, it’s sad to see people swearing up and down it’s this chick or that chick for no other reason than “my sisterbabydaddymamacousin swore he saw her selling her body for paint chips on Rodeo Drive”. Because when you’re in hollywood image is the name of the game. That’s why she shouldn’t let them see her sweat. If you’re in the business, you should know how to work the business well. You don’t see Beyonce, or Oprah, or Angela Basset, or Janet Jackson coming out their face making comments like that. They know to talk to their publicist first.
Gabrielle made a comment that could seriously burn some bridges for her, and that’s a bad move for a Black actress in Hollywood. So, if she was smart, she’d play it safe.

I think Gabby is talking about Sandra Rose who monitors the comments which I hate. But I think the most talk I see about Gabby is on MTO. I go to Bossip and MTO for entertainment purposes because it’s just funny how someone is getting married to two different people and then breaking up the next week. Angel, I don’t think you should be offended like everyone else thinks take that up the others members of your team. I think they feel like by being black we should try to hold each other up because we all know as a black community we do have issues with each other and its bad enough these blogs are our Extra and Access Hollywood. Yes, Gabby should appreciate someone talking about her but I think she only wants to see the positive stuff. The only way we will hear about each other is thru blogs so Gabby make a new friend. Because I live in Dallas in ms ghetto Lady Jade gets her information from MTO when she reports her “entertainment news.” Cleary she being a journalist through broadcast media does not fact check!!

Angel now you know I love you but I do think you’re reading to much into what she’s saying…
As for the comments made by Gabby I do think she needs to take a chill pill and be happy someone wants to report on her one dimensional ass. I don’t find her interesting, I don’t like her acting and I think she’s a one character actress.. BUT guess what this is a blog and this is America where I am free to say what I want when I want.
Why is it “celebrities” get their panties in a bunch when someone says something about them they don’t like? YET the moment you approach them to verify the truth the first thing they say is no comment or I wish the public would respect my privacy…THIS AINT BURGER KING AND YOU CAN’T HAVE IT YOUR WAY!!!
Now granted I do believe everyone is entitled to their privacy and no I don’t think people in the industry owe me again because I sported their album or movie, they provided me a service and I did the same for them.
At no point in my life would I allow the thoughts of others hurt my feelings. Yes Gabby and I are two different people still I don’t know why people seem to care what others think of them so much. When I see pictures of anyone on this site or any other site do I assume their dating no and nine times outta ten nor do I care(unless it’s about my baby Shaq but that’s a whole other story). Just as everyday people have to ignore the comments made by others, people in the business do as well. Them more so because they are in the public and are scrutinize from head to toe. So Gabby my advice to you would be SCRATCH YOUR ASS GET GLAD AND GET OVER IT!
Now….there are some saying yes people do come here and make negative comments about those in the blogs, yeah we do like it or not that’s what happens. Do I feel obligated to respond to every post I see no and if I do respond NO not all of it will be good… If their weave is tore up yes I will say that.. If I think their shoes are a hot ass mess then guess what I will say that as well. Last I checked we were all human and humans are judgemental whether you want to admit it or not we are, some more than others. I don’t know whether any of you know it or not but this is life we’re living and shit happens…the good and the bad oh well…

Bossip is not Black owned and though MTO is it is an African man who owns it. YBF is what Gabby had to be talking about cause Natasha is forever talking ish about who Gabby is supposedly dating. I knew when I read it she was talking about YBF.
And don’t get mad but CL has only recently gone the kind and gentle route because you all know celebs are reading your site and you wanna make nice with them. When this blog started you were calling women bitches and saying hoe sit down just like Fresh still does now. You were mean and rude too because that is what sells.

Now Angel
You know I am one of your blogs biggest fans—I’ve been on here EVERY DAY for at least 2-3 years and I cannot believe she is referring to you! However, I’m not here to tell you how to feel and I think that it’s quite presumptuous on the part of anyone else to tell you not to be upset or that you’re being too sensitive.
With that being said, I have only visited a couple of other gossip sites (Black and White) a handful of times and I cannot handle it…it’s just too much going on and not enough real talk. So I can definitely see where Gabrielle is coming from because I can’t even read the other sites for all the foolishness!!! She is obviously talking about Sandra Rose and ‘nem cuz your blog doesn’t even fall into that category; it’s more like journalism.
But anybody who knows about graceful interviewing knows that you MUST turn the question around to something positive—no matter how negative the subject. She should have ended her rant with a shout-out to the black blogs who are balanced in their reporting and left it at that.

I think alot of times Gabrielle brings the gossip upon herself. I mean, you really don’t hear much about Saanaa or Nia gossip wise because their low key. You don’t see them at EVERY SINGLE PARTY groping up on celebrity guys like some kind of crazed groupie like Gabby. I mean does she even act anymore? The only time I see her is on the blogs and it’s usually because she’s at some party kissin’ on some new dude.
Look she’s grown and if she rather spend her time party hoping than going to movie auditions and trying to make a name of herself than fine. But don’t go blaming other people for your negative image in the media Ms. “I could have been Mrs. Jason Kidd” when you say stuff like that, people have no choice but to gossip about you!
And hell, gossiping is just a part of life. I’ve been gossiped about plenty of times. We used to gossip in High school and I gossip at work about co-workers, I mean that’s a normal part of life, GET OVER YOURSELF GABBY!! I’m sure she talks about people too!

And I love CL, and from what I’ve seen about the way news stories are posted here, Im sure she wasnt talking about this site, although I understand why Angel took offense.
And frankly Im tired of celebrities whining about the gossip about them…ur a CELEBRITY it comes with the territory, get over it…yes every1 is entitled to their privacy but this is an occupational hazard..its like a doctor or lawyer complaining about long hours. I mean, HELLO.
And i’ve heard plenty of celebs, including Bey, saying that they dont even read the blogs cuz they know mess is being said about them…u dont wanna see the crap being written, dont read it. Its very simple.

Always talkin about what someone has on or who they are dating. And the thing about alot of these sites is you dont see too many pics of the person that is writing the dirt so THEY can get critiqued! And the response with the attitude really was extra. They are responding so dont get mad, just take it and roll with it. Real Talk, Black women are their own worst enemy and it is sad! But what you gonna do……? Helps the day pass.

You all keep getting mad at Gabrielle, saying she should suck it up and express her feelings in a better way. But most of you would probably have the same reaction if you were in her shoes. They are tired of having their lives authored, and being asked questions based on false rumors all the time. She never said ALL black blogs are doing these things, but if people are telling her about things they saw on random blogs, all she can do is generalize. Concreteloop is an amazing blog that I enjoy reading, but everyone in the world does not know about it. She may have been speaking on some other blog. And even if she knew about this blog specifically, you can’t be mad. Despite having other sources, a rumor is still a rumor, no matter where you get it from and if you post it on a popular site, then hey … it’s in the streets now. Plus, Essence asked her a specific question in regard to the situation. They asked and she answered. If that is the way she feels then ok. Love those ladies … and I love this blog. No hard feelings.

I agree with both Gabbie and the young lady who operates this websit!lol! as wierd as that sounds but i do. I can understand from Gabrielle Unions point of view what she means when she says that alot of the redicule comes from our community because it does. The white bloggers do sit outsied of Angelina and Brad’s house and stalk Brittany Spears, but when black people are out and about they barely say shit. They capitalize on a bad mother but dont have shit to say about Solange Knowles, Jada Pinket and other moms who are always with and taking care of their kids. Notice how the normal moms are mostly black!lol! But yea Gabbie sure didnt say no names when it came down to the black bloggers she was talkin bout tho, so i’ll have to be neutral about this situation and agree with everybody. I LOVE EVERYBODY ANYWAY! Oh and to the young lady who covered the story on Gabbie and them lol! I love how you handeled the stuff that was said and didnt get ignorant, that was so very classy of you!

I can only think of ONE black blog that I go to that disses black women the way Gabrielle describes it. Sandra Rose.
– Concreteloop, run by a black woman and co-run by another sister and a black man, doesn’t do that.
– Brownsista is informative and never disses sisters. Run by black women.
– Crunk + Disorderly, run by a sista and co-run by sisters and brothers, I agree that they’re cold but that’s ONLY if they have reasons to, like for example the blond wig and blue eyes of Puffy’s mom. They will talk trash, but WHAT SITE DOESN’T DO IT?
– Young Black & Fabulous or whatever the name is, is run by a black woman and she praises black people most of the time, that’s why she created the site, to big up black folk living the fabulous life.
– Rap-Up just reports the news, nothing negative, run by black people.
– Cake & Ice Cream, run by a sista, helped by brothers and sisters, is POSITIVE!

(Part 2)
As for SANDRA ROSE….. THIS CHICK IS ALONE AND LONELY WHO CARES? Nobody cares about her but a few dozens black folk, why you’re gonna give her the time of the day?? She’s IRRELEVANT!! You mean to tell me of ALLLL the blogs that support you (LISTED ABOVE!!!!!) you’re gonna focus on that nobody and complain to Essence about her? PLEASE! Her blog ain’t even “hot”, people in general are tired of her. Like, 80% of the sisters admire them, I can’t think of one sista around me that doesn’t love them. And the brothers too by the way. But they’re gonna focus on Sandra Rose? Thanks for letting her KNOW THAT YOU CAUGHT FEELINGS, you’re only feeding her ego! DAMMIT!! HOW OLD ARE Y’ALL??

(Part 3 / End) Gabrielle, Sanaa and Nia need to grow up, and THINK before pointing fingers at black blogs for the false rumors and negativity. It was not “US” who started dissing TYRA BANKS on her weight gain. B0ssip and TMZ ARE very BIG and known for their negativity, THEY ARE NOT run by BLACK PEOPLE!!!!!!! They are the BIGGEST LIES of the internet, THEY ARE THE ONES who start false rumors, and they DO care about US, not long ago TMZ was following Megan Good getting out of a club with their cameras, don’t blame black people for this. I’m very disappointed in my 3 favorite actresses.

I have to agree with Gabby. Sortof. I think CL is actually one of the more neutral and unbiased sites out there, although the comments that people make sometimes are so unecessarily rude and ignorant. Some bloggers really need to put away the curse words and get the dictionary out!) Also seems that there are a lot of black sistas out there blogging who seem to like tearing other black sistas down and then two minutes before, complain that there arent enough sistas in the limelight, taking on more acting roles, being role models etc…..
Come to think of it, i think that compared to all them messed up lindsays, hiltons, olsens and britneys out there, these sistas are actually doing a very good job being role models. Not perfect, no, but they definitely deserve more credit. So what if they have a messed up weave now and again!???! And lets be honest now, II bet the women making derogatory comments about these celebs’ hairstyles cant even talk!

I do not have a blog ,but I do post comments on this one ,and this is the only site that I love commenting on ,because you can feel the hate from Fresh, and Sandra Rose. I think that she was including Concreteloop in her comments, but she would not name names ,but down her sisters like this. She is the one who is always at a party freakin on somebodies husband or boyfriend so she needs to have more class.Oh,and she need not worry about bloggers she need to worry about Dwayne Wades wife when catch that azz lol.

While I can understand why you would be upset Angel, can you think about how Gabby feels when someone is putting false stuff about her out here on the internet…. but I also think Gabby needs to be happy that they do have Black Gossip sites or she wouldn’t be in the press at all and no one would even knew she had a movie coming out soon or that she was even on Essence this month until we got to the grocery. I guess I can understand why both of you are mad but I don’t want it to be a bash fest on Gabby Union, although she needs to stop being so sensitive and blaming everything on you Black Women who write these blogs… she’s specifically talking about CL, YBF, and C+D you 3 are the most popular and are all ran by Black women. I can understand both perspectives (Angel v. Gabby), but at I am somewhat more sympathetic towards Gabby. Although ConcreteLoop is big when speaking of terms of black celebrity blogs, it is still one of many. Lawd only knows how many times she’s seeing herself across the internet with 50 different assumptions made about the same photo, and none of them are true. And I would imagine that it would hurt more coming from a “black blog”. Although gossip and speculation come with being in the industry, I can only imagine what a pain in the butt it is to deal with.

I THINK GABBY IS RIGHT. Especially on YBF, Natasha always is ripping people up and I always wonder if she is fat and insecure. Not to do to her what she is doing to celebrities, but the truth is, we do tear ourselves down from the inside out. I think for the most part, Gabby, Sanna, and Nia don’t get nearly as much bad press and “ripping up” by black blogs as other celebrity Black women like Brandy, Foxy Brown, etc. I read the blogs to keep up with what’s going on in the Black entertainment world, I don’t have BET. Why is Gab acting like she is brand new. From the time you enter this earth till the time you leave, someone is going to talk about you. When your a celebrity that’s one of the prices you have to pay,and she can’t control it. Gossip didn’t start with black blogs. The National Enquier and Star magazine have made millions of dollars of off celebrity gossip.Let’s not forget Gossip is the key word i could understand her if her dating life was being published in Time magazine,or The New York Times as fact, but it isn’t it’s on a gossip site. A blog isn’t considered journalism( no dis-respect to Concrete Loop) and it seems like her anger is at the comments and that is beyond her control. I think she should grow up and get over it.To many more problems in the world to worry about this stupid S#$78T!!!!!!!!!!

You are being to sensitive. I agree with her. Every time they are on one of OUR blogs, we do have something negative to say. Regardless where the rumor started. Even though it is good to read, i can understand what she is saying. We should do research so if we do post a rumor, so we can say this is a rumor, although i did or didn’t research and this appears not to be true. Alot of the rumor’s i do see comments by you guys at CL giving your personal opinions, most time negative or agreeing with the rumor. So suck it up, she is just telling what she feels, and i understand. But if you want more love from the artist or actor’s, actress- you have to show them some love, instead of putting out false things. One love, Boost our people up, not down.

I have been reading CL for a while and I’m going to keep it real like I allways do, Ange la there is no need for you to get as defensive as you are if you hadn’t printed anything of questionable integrity . I agree with one of the other posters here , for the most part this site has a lot of integrity because I notice you guys stay nuetral on whom ever grants you an interview and more so scince you have been getting celeb recognition which is a smart move , but your weren’t above doing a ashy hammer toe post lets keep it real. I also find it ironic that people are comming down on the actress for reacting to negative publicty (not nessecerily from CL) and at the same time not doing the same for this site owners lashing out.
That goes both ways just like the celebs I guess you have to take the good with the bad. At the end of teh day this is a gossip site and its not going to be looked apon as having the same journalists merrit as other media and at teh same time you can get away with reporting that kelly rowland is pregnant which will get people to com to your site and not be held to the same standards as othe media outlets which allows everyday peopel like angela and tianna to get their jr reporter thing going on so take the good with the bad

Thursday, November 15, 2007 /
Angel, I feel your frustration.
I believe its not what Gabrielle said but how she said it. She should have called out names and sites instead of beating around the bush. Sanaa and Gabrielle were quoted saying, “gossip sites…that are run by Black women. So when you hear crap about us, it is coming from our own community, which hurts.” These statements bring people, who fit that category to a standstill, who automatically get offended…ESPCIALLY if that it’s false on you behalf. That’s like what many said before someone saying that ALL black females are bitter and angry when we all know that those comments are so far from the truth.
Nevertheless - when you are one of the few Black sites who constantly post positive blogs and opinions of actresses, authors, athletics and celebrities and someone makes a stereotype statement about gossip sites that fits your description…its insulting. It’s like accusing someone of a crime/act that they did not commit just because you fit the description and we all know that’s stereotyping and it a bunch of bullsh*t…excuse my French.
Gabrielle should have been more careful with her choice of words being a professional. She should accept that everyone is not going to love her and speak negative of her…that’s the harsh reality of being a celebrity. She should know the drill by now. True, she is human and has feelings as well but there is a certain way of going about things and she was very immature. She looks like a hypocrite to me. She talks about Black women putting her down and posting false statements then she repeats the same act by agreeing that its black women blogs who rips her to shreds every two seconds.
If you can’t stand the heat, get you tail out the kitchen.

First - The sisters ae beautiful on the cover
I admit I didn’t read the entire Essence article yet, but why is Sanaa actually making the statements and finishing the sentences for Gabrielle? Just wondering…
I understand Gabrielle’s statement - and she’s right, and most people agree, she probably is not talking about CL specifically, but when you make general statements, you leave yourself open to a lot speculation. She could have just as easily said Gossip blogs - but she specifically said, blogs run by Black women. Angel is offended because she is a Black woman running a Black Blog - that would include her.
Truth is gossip has always been - and will always be around… my parents taught me early and often, there will always be somebody that has something to say about you.

I agree with Gabby to a certain extent. I think she should have named the website she was talking about or just say “some” of the websites ran by black women. I don’t think she was talking about Concrete Loop b/c like Angie said, she usually puts if it’s a rumor or if it’s been verified. I love this website, but some of the women who have blogs get on my nerves because they are so negative sometimes. OK 170 so again just as Gabby should either accept that shes gogin to get her privac invaded and have untruthfull things written about her shouldn’t Angel La also accpet that a lot of these celebs they reporting on are not going to give her Kanye west Love for reporting who they were supposedlly seen canoodling with on sat day even though it is her job to report on such. Angel, not everybody is going to love what you do but you cant lash out at the celebs who are not nessecerily feeling what you do, thats not professional. and I dont even beleive she was reffering to CL but you have to admitt she had respect enough for the black blogs and the fact that black woman run them to not be tacky and name names but she obviously doesnt have that respect for perez hiton which is fine.
I do feel Gab though becuase black clebs get the raw end of the deal. The white media doesnt care enough about what they do to report on it so what ever negative publicty is garneered is commign straight from other blacks who I guess she held to a higher standard to know better then to attack her character by linking her to chris brown one day and who ever else is married by the next day. Again I dont beleive she was pointing otu this blog specifically.
At the end of the day this is a gossip site lets keep it real. Its for entertainment. I mean all your viewers including me love what you do but you report on entertainment news and gossip, there aren’t going to be an pullitzers awarded here even with the jena recognition so everybodys not going to love what you do especially when your reporting their business.

CL is one of the main sites that I visit regularly, and I have to agree with the rest I don’t think Gabrielle was talking about this site in particular.
Out of the popular ones, I believe she is referring to is http://www. sandrarosenews.blogspot.com., Media Take Out and YBF. However, most of the time on YBF’s site, I’ve seen the owner mainly about Gabrielle’s, Nia’s and Sanaa’s fashion choices, not necesscarily their relationships.
I don’t remember seeing much about Gabrielle on Sandra Rose’s site, but I do recall Sandra Rose posting a rumor that Sanaa Lathan and Nia Long were lesbian lovers. Their frustration about some blogs is understandable. Nobody wants blatant lies posted about them all the time. But hey, bogus rumors comes along with the fame. It’s best for them not to even stress out about it and just ignore it. That’s just how it is on some blogs. That’s how most of them get their popularity.

I have seen Gabrielle Union out a million times with a million different guys. I own a spa in LA and often get invited to VIP events from my clients. I’ve seen her with Darren (yes, they were dating…if that’s what you can call it. Screwing is probably more appropriate), a bunch of other football players (that’s clearly her thing) and miscellaneous actor types. She may just be a flirt, but word on the street is that she is at every party doing her thing. I have different friends that have seen her in Barbados, Miami, New York, I’ve seen her in LA, Las Vegas…always at a party. Being in the public eye, people will notice stuff like that. If she doesn’t like the reputation, she should keep her ass at home.

Some of the celebrity gossip sites are vile and disrespectful right out of the box - and the comments and commentary are worst. That’s real…. and can’t be excused.
But it’s gossip first of all, and everyone - celebrity or not, has dealt and will deal with gossip. The fact is now, celebrity, almost celebrity and wanna be a celebrity gossip is BIG business. There are hundreds of celebrity gossip “sites” or the internet and youtube. But it’s gossip, so the expectation that facts will be checked is absurd - it doesn’t matter if it’s true, it’s juicy, so it will be reported.
If you have made a decision to get in the entertainment business, you made a conscious decision to be exposed to this - it’s not right, but it’s real. It’s a risk you decided to take in your chosen profession.

That’s real talk. When she was married, she was working [movies and TV] and she was not out and about and taking pictures, and drinking and dancing with every male celebrity she could find. She has to be cognizant of her behavior - and she has been acting like a party girl since her separation and divorce.
You have candids of other celebrities at lunch, walking down the street, shopping, at the airport, on the red carpet… but most of her shots are at parties - with someone else, usually a brother, sometimes someone else’s man or husband.
Not a good look.
I think she was OK with that at first, because she was getting publicity - but I do believe that some in the industry are talking - and fellas and women are beginning to be a little distant to her.

@167
I would have to agree and disagree.
First, CL backs up ANY and EVERY rumor that is posted. Like with the death of Dr. West…they confirmed it before posting anything.
And yes. This site does contain many negative comments BUT it does not come from the creators or staff of the CL. It comes for the regular people and members who come here to post their views. Yeah, they could remove all the negative comments but everyone is entitled to their thoughts, good or bad. That’s the people’s right based on the First Amendment of the US Constitution.
The thing that makes me troubles me is how a website is blamed for other peoples actions. CL generates positive, good quality posts and many come here are tear down that positive vibe. You CANNOT judge a whole group or organization based on a few people’s bad behavior within that group. If that’s the case, then we as a Black race are in
SERIOUS TROUBLE.It’s not fair to say that CL is negative towards black celebrities but it is fair to say that the people who post at CL are nasty towards celebrities.
I agree that well need to ease up on these people, be a little more positive and consider other peoples feeling. This is true. But it not all of us here at CL. Everyday someone is hating on another person whether if their rich or poor, that’s life. And celebrities get it 100 times more. But if you really want something in life like a career in the public then the gossip and rumors come hand in hand…that’s the unfortunate actuality. We need to be more positive; we need to support and uplift one another but you will always find in life that are haters always among us. So I suggest if you can’t handle it, remove yourself from the situation or try to change the negative atmosphere by asking each other and ourselves why we have so much unconstructive energy.

I love Gabby but i always thought she had a bit of a bad attitude….i think she comes off wrong in how she words things. anyway, i think she needs to be happy she is relevant enough to even be talked about in the blogs. any press is good press, especially when you haven’t been in a big movie lately.
and white people hate on white people too so whats the problem? They say terrible things about britney, angelina, etc. Perez hates Beyonce, yet Gabby defends him? heffa plz…

There are a couple of blogs I could name that are pure trash and very negative…but not CL. CL is one of the most professional sites out there.
But, I received that issue of Essence in the mail yesterday, I read the entire article and I really think that Gabrielle has issues with trying to please people and that is the main reason why these blogs bother her.
She told a story in the mag about when she was still married, she and Chris were having a bad argument in the lobby of a Vegas casino. She was upset and crying when some fans walked up to her and asked her to the the “Bring It On” cheer from the movie. She said she looked at them thru her tears and said, “This is really not a good time” and they walked away disappointed. Gabrielle said that she feels so bad that she had to disappoint a fan.
So that statement leads me to believe that Gaby is a chronic people pleaser and when she reads the “black” blogs that say negative things about her…it really works on her self-esteem.
But if she plans on having ANY peace of mind, she better STOP reading the blogs (black or white). She’s a celebrity and people will always find something to say about her good and bad.

Cabrielle should be happy she is being talked about IMO. What the heck has she done of relevance lately? Everytime we see Gabrielle she’s at yet another party. Maybe if she chilled at home once in a while people wouldn’t be assuming she gets around. She is right about one thing-we don’t have enough “black stars”. Too many black female celebrity are wannabe Paris Hilton’s and Britney Spears chasing the white dream. Not enough content/substance and all flash.

I’m not trying to be mean, but she is not the only actress that people assume she is dating the guy she happens to be out with. It happens all the time, ask Jennifer Aniston and any top tier actor or actress. She needs to get a GRIP, as many people said it is not that deep.

@176
Unfortunately yes. If Gabrielle cannot handle the constant lies, drama and gossip then she should consider a change in occupation as an actress. These events come hand and hand in this industry…sad but very true. Some people can handle it and other cannot. Regrettably, it is what it is.
And as far as I can see Angel is not really tripping on not getting her props for her website. If she were so upset about it, she wouldn’t be posting about these SAME celebrities who don’t her love let alone create Concrete Loop. And by the way, CL is not considered as her job, I think she does this for the love of web graphics. (CORRECT ME IF I’M WRONG ANGEL.) She owns her own business in web graphics so it more that just a job. But I do not recall Angel lashing out on anyone. She just spoke on how she felt and kept it moving. If you ask me, she didn’t have to post on it at all because what Gabrielle did is called stereotyping and that’s wrong.
This is how I see it. Whether if you are a celebrity or not, rich or poor there is ALWAYS, I am going to repeat it again, ALWAYS going to be someone talking about someone, point, blank, period. Yes its unfair, yes it hurts and yes the world is cold. At the end of the day, it doesn’t make you who you are as a human being. Nobody on this Earth has a heaven or a hell to put that girl in she should not care about people say about her…especially if it is untrue. We need as black people need to stop seeking for acceptance and approval from other who do not what best for us. As long as we respect one another and not intentionally offending each other than we should be all gravy.
And for the record, people of color who choose to become entertainers know they are going to get the short end of the stick, just like every other black person in this world weather you be a Engineer, Architect, Lawyer or what ever profession. We ALL have to work twice as hard for our success. So it doesn’t pertain to just black celebrities. And I also do not believe that she was not gunning at CL as well. (So we agree on that.) I just disagree with the statement of ALL gossip blogs, created by black women.
But like you said, this is entertainment. So you really can’t take what is being said as serious. I suggest you take that advice to your friend Gabrielle…if that’s what you believe entertainment is. (Smile).

Generalizations are generally unfair to some portion of the population that it’s made about. ALL never applies to ALL.
I believe that since CL has gotten larger, and is getting looks from the celebs it posts about, it has really toned down the certain aspects of its celeb reporting, like the blind items and the juicy gossip! I miss it, but I understand that it’s trying to be different and trying to portray celebrities in a more positive light. And I believe Angel and crew go out of their way not to post the speculation. I have to go to bossip for that
And CL is not responsible for what the bloggers post. I do agree with the person that said that black people love to tear each other down - the posters on CL tear each other and the celebrities down - they don’t discriminate.
But, you guys are doing a great job CL - Angel, don’t take Gab’s digs against black bloggers personal. ALL are not created equal, and CL is heads above the rest

I think Gabrielle is right, she is labeled as a “whore” by many black gossip blogs; However, not by Concrete Loop, so I don’t really think you should be offended at all. If she would’ve name checked whatever blogs she was talking about, that would’ve only hurt the situation more than helped. I also think that it was easy for her to mention Perez Hilton because, let’s face it whether you love him or hate him, he’s the most famous…most influential..and most recognizable person in the business of gossip blogging. His site is pretty much the one to which all other blogs are compared.

People kill em with that. I don’t care what you say or how well you intend to come off in there but there is is no check some one can write that would have you not feel a certain way about hundreds of people cosigning to you being a whore ont he itnernet , and if there is an amount of money that makes it ok under in your book I suggest you seek some kind of higher power. So that “it comes along with the business” excuse as to how shes is supposed to not feel a certain way after reading lie apon lie about her isn’t going to cut it. And with that very statement you are simply perpetuating the myth that these celebs are demi gods ellivated above regular folks who are above having normal feelings of discontent and embarassment and anger at all these stories that get written about them on the gossip blogs. Truth be told it’s attitudes like that that for some reason make halle berrys pregnant grossery shopping pics some how seem rellevant to anything when they arent.
And as I said I dont see gabrielle as having lashed out anymore then AngelLa did. What you and AngelLa need to understand that at the end of the day both ventures come with baggage. Actors are going to get talked about negativley and gossip blogs are not going to be respected as ligitamate press becuase as gabby said its almost always 90% heresay with no obligation to check facts. (Kelly rowlands supposed pregancy comes to mind). If gabrielle is expected to suck it up becuase she knows the stories aren’t true and comes along with the territory true wouldn’t AngelLa be expected to hold her self to the same princapals knowing internet gossip blogs are not exactley the most respected or revered forms of mediaoutlets outthere. I would think so.

BEAUTIFUL COVER! Just got the magazine in the mail…gotta read it…I think Angel was upset because Gabrielle made a generalization to Black Blogs. I think her comment is very one sided and as a celebrity, if you look like a jump off that is what will be discussed, true or not.
Basically as a celebrity black, white, hispanic or whatever, one should expect to be talked about. It is sad but true, especially if you aren’t constantly in the news as having a million children or a DUI, people have to make something up. It makes great money for those who are in that line of work (paparazzi, gossip columnist etc.) It goes both ways. Hell I am not famous, but I guarantee you on any day of the week someone will say she’s a snob or I don’t like her shoes, she can’t afford that car or I heard she was dating so and so- I take it in stride and keep it moving! ….so as a celebrity in the spotlight it is to be expected. Gabby, I understand where you coming from but you have to understand a couple of things…some people are f^ckin idiots! Yes some of these black blog owners and posters need to be Rick Jamed. (meaning..what did the five fingers say to the face?) But you also have to understand that people are gonna talk about you regardless. That’s life. You can’t change that no matter what you do. And it doesn’t matter if you are a celebrity or not. People are going to talk whether you like it or not. Live your life. Don’t let it bother you. Keep doing whatever it is you are doing.
I absolutely love the cover. These are my favorite 3. Nia, Sanaa and Gabby are all both beautiful and intelligent women. You 3 will always have my support.

“They make a lot of astute points about being black women in hollywood in the interview, points that are absolutely true and need to be heard, and I think many are afraid to voice for being diagnosed with “angry black girl syndrome.”

” Truth be told it’s attitudes like that that for some reason make halle berrys pregnant grossery shopping pics some how seem rellevant to anything when they arent.”
The fact that Halle won’t shut-up (she’s on an entertainment show talking about her pregnancy every other day like she’s the only woman to ever have a baby) doesn’t help her case either. These celebrities need to take some type of responsibility. They put their business out there for all to see and when something not so positive comes up they suddenly want to cry for their “privacy”. They use their latest break-up, death etc. to get themselves back in the limelight, so they shouldn’t be surprised when people stoop as low as they do.

So to Gabby, stop acting like a party-hopping groupie and get to acting class! You making yourself look bad “homegirl”.

I have never been a huge fan of Gabrielle (not to say she isn’t good at what she dose) but I just never known for her to be as big as she acting. The only time I see her is on blogs and she is always at a party in some dude face. If she dosn’t like how she is portrayed she should change her life style.
I can’t name one ground breaking performance on t.v. or in movies that she has been. In fact the only person who is even relevent on that cover is Nia Long. Gabrielle and Sanaa so the same type of movies over and over. I mean even Megan Good had Eve’s Bayou.
Untill she get like: Jada in “Set it Off”, Nia in “Boyz in the Hood”, Halle in “Loosing Isaiah”, Angela Basset in “Waiting to Exhale”, Oparah in the “Color Purple”, Vivica Fox in “Set it Off”, Lynn Whitfield in “The Josephine Baker Story” and “Thine Line Between love and hate” and “Eve’s Bayou” I’m gone need her to hush up.
I know there are more actress and films than that but that’s all I can think of right now.

Hi Angel
I have been reading this blog since its very start–bake sales and all to keep the server lights on–and hands down you are one of the most responsible entertainment blogs out there. In fact I think you are the most responsible in the black blog genre.it shows recently in the way you handled Dr. West’s death.
You take the high road. I am really really proud of you for that.
To the others…and I think they are boaderline bottom feeders jockin off of what you started-I challenge them to do the right thing and no make shyt up for hits and ads.

Whatever Gabby. Your comment is so flawed it’s not even funny. White sites don’t care about blacks? Tell me then, why do sites like TMZ, Perez Hilton (an example you so boldly stated), and DListed have categories specifically for black women such as Rihanna, Naomi Campbell, and Beyonce? Are they not black? Are those sites not run by whites? And I too find it oddly convenient how you could list a white site that supposedly doesn’t care about your race, yet you couldn’t list the specific blog that hurt your feelings.
If you haven’t grown your thick skin yet then fine, but don’t generalize an entire population of black blogs when you were only talking about those at the bottom of the barrel, those that actually take rumors and try to make them look like truths without sourcing their information, or even stating the possibility that their information might be false. It was not only tacky to tag every single black female run blog, it was rude because some of the blogs that I’ve seen actually like you very much and don’t partake in the rumors about you or any other black female celebrities.
In conclusion, you are a celebrity, and you’ll get talked about no matter how you live you life. If petty rumors are something you can’t take, then stop reading about yourself, and have those around you refrain from telling you information that they’ve read or heard about you.

First of all I loooove the cover. Picked it up yesterday. Anyhoo, Gabby I agree with you. And as far as any blogger being mad because she didn’t mention whom she was referring to, that was smart on her part. Obviously if she had’ve mentioned the name it would’ve only blew up the blogspot even more, and I don’t thinks she’s trying to add dolla’s to their pockets. Hold ya head ladies. Being a celebrity comes with the good and the bad. At the end of the day, don’t stop doing what you do to please somebody else, especially those you don’t know and don’t give a damn about.

Angel La: I hope you are reading all of these comments. I actually understand the position they are coming from. There are innumerable gossip blogs, and many of them do NOT verify sources, or even have a SOLID trusted source. I believe that she was speaking in general, and not in specific, and it must wear them thin. That doesn’t mean that she was referring to your site, which I can’t read her mind. The only thing major that I have seen on your site in my recent memory was her and that phoine azz man.
It must be frustrating to be the topic of conversation, whether true or untrue. So from a general perspective, yes, it must be difficult to deal with that. I wouldn’t take offense to it, because you know your product and how you perform from a jounalistic perspective, and that’s all that counts.
For the record, I love concrete loop. I think it’s an outstanding site, and I don’t really consider it a blog - I consider it an urban news source.

“What you and AngelLa need to understand that at the end of the day both ventures come with baggage.”
————————————————
That is true. And I never did say that she was wrong to not express her thoughts. I can relate to where Gabrielle is coming from BUT throwing stones at everyone who is in the gossip blog business or should I quote Sanna, “That are run by Black women” and Gabrielle not objecting towards her stat ement doesn’t make it right either. And for the record, I do not agree or condone the Halle Berry grocery shopping pictures. I was never interested in her being pregnant. And I do not enjoy all of the negative remarks and false statements either on CL about celebrities. If you check my posts, the majority of them are all-positive, except for three.
If I said anything to offend you, that I am women enough to apologize. I do not mean to upset you. But I never can understand why people like Gabrielle who are intelligent with a great career lower themselves by talking down about other people when it is the same thing they complain about. It’s a double standard (to me). But I do see eye to eye with what you are saying. I will leave you alone now, LOL.

Do you really hear yourself!!!!! You said you don’t pull rumor out of your ass. Do you really know what you just wrote. You really try to have a source. Pleeeeese! The fact that you printing rumors is unreal. Why dont you try to run a site that promotes black people. Why do you even spread rumors in the first place. You are a young black just like you said and you are young. You don’t even have a clue what it really is all about. The crap you put on here is a waste of time. I only go to this website jus to look at celebrities and what they are wearing because I like to keep up with whats trendy. People need to mind there own business and stay out others people lives. What is the point in knowing who anyone is screwing, or hanging with who and who got a baby by who. Why? Why? This don’t have nothing to do with anyone but these individuals. I agree with her and anyone who would speak our against you is going to feel some heat, because you who suppost these blogs really to fell this entertainment and sadly to say for most of you it is.
Can anyone imagine a life of looking forward to commenting on others and what they are doing and wearing on a ongoing daily basis…sometimes I will someone and read the comments and its the same people the same time everyday??????
Don’t forget the pics….when you work in this industry and are alround all this stuff the clothes and the photos don’t mean a thing we are go home and wash all the goop off and just get real in some jeans or just plain butt naked…too much drama and then you show the same people almost everyday…your favorites I imagine?????

It really irks me that black women on these comments are making this about a color war, when we are all the same damn color anyway….BLACK. It doesn’t matter who’s light skinned or dark skinned because they are all beautiful. Why does all the light skinned girls have to be trying to be white? That’s unfair. It’s crazy because growing up, the light skinned blacks are hated by whites and blacks (the blacks that are darker than them). Why? The darker blacks thought that the lighter blacks were trying to be white. That’s a mess b/c they are working with the color God gave them.
#242…I agree with you. Sandra Rose gets on my nerves. I love this blog because it’s not negative. Angie doesn’t speak down on the celebs, the people who comment will say anything.
#226….I don’t think that people are trying to make themselves bright. I think that may have happened in the old days but now people realize that Black is Beautiful. When I say Black I’m talking about all shades of Black and not just brown or medium tones like you.

Yo Angel,
CL is the blog of the people, for the people and by the “black” people so I can see where you may be offended by her umbrella statement. But although you may get your info from other blogs, you still post them here, right? So in essence, if I hear a rumor that someone is gay, and forward that “rumor”, stating that it’s not confirmed, I still passed that nasty unconfirmed rumor to others, who may not check the story, but run with the fact that I said it. Why did I feel it was news worthy, if there wasn’t some hint of truth? Because gossip is messy. It’s meant to be. Only those who care about what Gabby is doing will confirm, everyone else will just say, “that tramp” and have. She certainly doesn’t deserve to be trashed by her people, being that she has worked really hard to put women of color in a positive light. Gabby has yet to play a hooker, drug addict, or anything depicting sisters as anything other strong and supportive, so “we” should give her some love. And you do.
I ONLY read CL, Sandra Rose and YBF regularly and have seen the same stories posted elsewhere too, but it was here (last month) that Gabby was posted with several guys, all with association rumors attached. You may have gathered them elsewhere from vairous sites, but you posted them all here, on this black woman owned site. So in a way, she could be pointing at you. Chalk it up as a fact that she’s reading and paying attention. Now change their opinions.
This site is still respectable and well put together. You do remain neutral and reserve your opinions (except for Kanye) and I support you. There is a difference between how folks like Jill Scott, Halle Berry and Alicia Keys stories are posted in comparison to a Gabby Union or a Rhianna who’s headers read like news alerts.
Gabby, sweetie, they talked about Jesus Christ boo, you know they’ll talk about you.
Still best run site on the web, to include Black Voices.

Black Gossip Blogs are like Drugs to our Community
Thursday, November 15, 2007 /
testing……
Black Gossip Blogs are like Drugs to our Community.
And the people who own/operate these Black Gossip Blogs are the Drug Dealers.
Think about it:
Why are you so addicted to ConcreteLoop, and all the other Black Gossip sites ??
Why do you have this incredible urge to know information about the black “stars” and print cruel and hurtful comments about these so called stars that the black community prop up one minute, only to tear them down later on ?
I can understand why a person like Gabrielle Union would be hurt & dissapointed by Black Blogs and the people who own/operate them
Blacks do truely suffer from the “Crabs in the Barrel” mentality.
Now we are purposely pushing an additional drug, known as gossip in our community.
When we realize that this Blog only HURTS members of the black community.

Hill Harper and Gabrielle Union arrived at the Maxim Style Awards Tuesday night in Hollywood. Guess what the new rumor is now? She is dating Hill Harper. First Dwayne, Luda was next and now Hill? Gabrielle isn’t generalizing she’s talking about specific black blogs that she chose not to name. I don’t think Gabrielle was talking about this specific website so I don’t understand why the people behind this website are upset? Gabrielle is obviously talking about certain black blogs. Why would Gabrielle name these black blogs so they can attack her even more? Gabrielle is a sophisticated, talented, beautiful, young black woman that’s working hard in a very racist and sexist Hollywood. Black actresses struggle we should be supporting them instead of tearing them down.
Also Gabrielle has a point the white gossip blogs aren’t following every single move of black celebrities like black gossip blogs. Its not write the cruel and negative rumors that are surfacing about Gabrielle she’s a person to its got to really hurt Gabrielle to read this horrible lies.

Also the misogynst stories about Gabrielle saying she’s fooling around with various athletes, rappers is just not right they are just rumours. I mean it must hurt. Gabrielle is going through a divorce she has no children, she’s not tied to anybody she has her own money. So what’s the problem? Why the double standard? When black men date various people the black blogs do not judge them or criticize their character. Why is it when men are bachelors we are not scorned but if a woman is not married or in a committed relationship people automatically stereotype the lady as loose? Its a total double standard its sexist and its just plain wrong. Gabrielle has control over her life she’s doing her own thing. I think Gabrielle has a right to speak her mind she’s obviously upset about this. Yes some people will say well its a part of the Hollywood game it doesn’t mean that rumors don’t hurt.

But I think too that some of the success has become a drug for some sites (not including Angel who I maintain is the most responsible black entertainment writer out). I mean look at the money that some of these sites boast about–after some commenters turn on people like Sandra or YBF Chic. The usual retort is “I’m stackin paper”. At what expense though? But as long as the money’s good–its all fair in hate and gossip I suppose.

STFU….
IT IS BOTH A COLOR THING AND A WOMAN THING. WHITE WOMEN THAT I KNOW PULL EACH OTHER UP, WHILE MOST OF THE BLACK WOMEN I KNOW TEAR EACH OTHER APART.
YOUR EXPERIENCES (HOW OLD ARE YOU, LIKE 16 OR SOMETHING??) ARE NOT THE MAJORITY OF WHAT’S EXPERIENCED IN THE REAL WORLD..
WHY DO YOU EVEN SPEAK??
NO I’M NOT CRAZY, I’M JUST SICK OF READING WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY… IT’S PRETTY DAMN UNINTELLIGENT AND IRRELEVANT.

I do believe black celebrity blogs serve a purpose in letting black people know about a movie that’s coming out, or about a singer’s CD or concert, or an actor’s DVD. The black blogs give a spotlight to black celebrities that usually are ignored by the mainstream. Gabrielle is one of the few black actresses that’s actually profiled on the mainstream blogs like People so she is a bit more famous then say Golden Brooks. However, its got to be tough reading negative stories that aren’t true and there is a sexist double standard taking place on some black blogs also.

I have lived in France for almost ten years wth white people and 15 years in AFRICA with only black people and yes from my little experience I know that woman are like that whatever colour you are BITCH. yes that is my experience. Nothing stupid about what i am saying but you have the right to disagree.
so SHUT YOU FUCKIN MOUTH BECAUSE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS NOT MORE RELEVANT THAT WHAT I HAVE TO SAY. AND YES, I PREFER SEE THINGS POSITIVELY AND SAY THAT IT IS A WOMAN THING BECAUSE MAN, BLACK MAN I KNOW DON’T DO THAT TO THE OTHER MAN ONLY WOMAN SO AGAIN, GET OUT OF HERE!! THE REAL RACIAL PROBLEM IS WHEN SOMEONE IS TALKING ABOUT ANOTHER WOMAN COLOUR , BUT IN OTHER CASES TO ME IT IS JUST A WOMAN JALOUSY SO SHUT UP AGAIN
THAT IS CRAZY, YOU DON’T AGREE WITH ME AND I AM A WHORE NOW ?!! OH MY GODNESS, WELCOME TO AMERICA, THE COUNTRY WHERE EVERYBODY HAVE TO THINK THE SAME WAY OTHER WISE YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS. CAN I SAY IRAK BITCH. YOU ARE SO STUPID

Those were all good movies but nothing that the average person can’t do. I think she is a good actress ( I stated that before) but IMO she hasn’t done anything that would have people talking about her all the time. She think she got it bad I wounder how Beyonace and Rhianna feel ( and I am not a stan but they get it the worst on blogs).

Gabrielle Union should be glad she’s getting any press at all. She is not that great of an actress and IMO comes across in interviews as if she has a shitty attitude. She should be glad she gets some shine on black blogs because the white-oriented blogs could give a fuck about her Z-List ass.
Maybe she should put more emphasis into getting a good role in a big budget film and stop attending every party, premiere, or umbrella opening out there.
This blog always states when any of the things they post is a rumor!! IMO Angel does a great job and what Gabrielle did is just lump together a group instead of being woman enough to specifically say what blog she was referring to. (Sandra Rose) !!!
GET A BACK-BONE BITCH AND CALL PEOPLE OUT OR SHUT UP AND GO TO THE WHEREVER-THE-HELL, KANSAS BLACK FILM FESTIVAL.
As for the people telling Angel it’s not that serious, some of yall are really funny. You are the same people whose asses explode everytime someone says something about Beyonce(good or bad)…is it that serious GTFOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“The fact of the matter is a picture of halle berry pregnant sells to magazines like its a photo of the virgin mary about to give birth to the scond coming of jesus becuase of the demand for it and an audience for it, not becuase shes tooting her own horn and telling everyone how important she is like you seem to want to beleive. It doesnt work like that”
That is where you are wrong. Perfect example: JLO. Everyone thought she was pregnant, but she chooses not to talk about it, even though the demand is there. So Halle does have a choice.

Did you honestly just say “Those were all good movies but nothing that the average person can’t do” You wanna rethink that.
And the difference is as popular as rihanna and Beyonce are they KNOW better then to lash out because the media would tear their black asses apart. Look what they do to any thing else beyonce says. The comment she made about her not relating to her dream girls character and only doing black music. The comment she made about gaining 20 pounds to play effie, the comment about wishing she was born latin becuase they show love to their celebs nomatter what, anything she says they scrutinize. Remember when that PETA membered hemmed her up in the resteraunt with a hidden camera and she said absolutley nothing until her mother got rid of them. Thats her stragidy, keep your mouth closed and you wont upset anybody, but even so she got flack for not having a mind of her own. Yall dont know the game.
And shes one of the exceptions of what gab was talking about becuase she gets covered by white an black media and yet the media still doesnt inrtude like they do white celebs even by beyonces own words , why? becuase the black celeb is still not a hot comodity.

Oprah in the Color Purple? That’s your stand out. You shoulda said Beloved and I would be inclined to agree, but Sophia? What BBW couldn’t do that?
Nia in did good, but isn’t that the exact same role as Lauren London in ATL or Megan Goode in Roll Bounce? The intro role. “Hi I’m the new up n coming black actress part”.
I just listed those because you said that you didn’t know of any roles where she did her thing. Deliver us from Eva,….ahh who was Eva? Gabby. Bad Boys II, who was the damsel in distress who caught and held the eye of the infamous Mike Lowry? Gabby. Breaking the Rules, Two can Play, again she was the star. Ofrah aint never carried no movie. Neither has Nia. Although the do supporting roles quite well. Lynn is the sh*t. You were on time with that, but Halle went from the “prom fend” to the Academy scene. Gabby will follow trust. Regina King, Sanaa Latham, Nia Long, Lady Lauren and Megan all have bright movie careers. WE should support them all.

Theres always a grey area when it comes to gossip and gossip blogs. Celebs are always going to get talked about, true and it can sometimes be good publicity for them…but when you start talking about this actresses jump off status….dont expect celebs not to get mad and say anything about it. dont blog owners talk about everybody under the sun? even though CL has more recently become more neutral in its posts, in its early days, there were some rude/funky posts and that has to be known.
im not saying Angel isnt entitled to her own feelings, but there was a post about Gabby a few weeks ago highlighting all the dudes shes been seen with and a comment under her picture straight up asking gabby to clarify if shes a jump off or not. i know Angel, this is gossip, but dont act like you dont add fuel to the fire with post like these. and, given that this is your site, the comments section, to a degree reflects upon you, because, well, you own the site.
but i really do think gabby may have her own codependent /self esteem issues as well, because she feels like she has to please everybody. i think thats why there is a veneer to beyonce as well, she dosent let her all hang out, because people can be brutal bitches, and that can hurt

Hill Harper and Gabrielle Union arrived at the Maxim Style Awards Tuesday night in Hollywood. Guess what the new rumor is now? She is dating Hill Harper. First Dwayne, Luda was next and now Hill? I honestly think people are pulling these items out of their ass. Gabby please set the record straight soon, because these rumors are making you look like a jump off.

Gossip is the new drug of the 21th Century.
We all get our daily fix everytime we log onto concreteloop.
Concreteloop is worse than crack
Black Gossip Blogs are like Drugs to our Community
When will we realize that this Blog only HURTS members of the black community.
It doesn’t really help…

I’ve read several blog sites including this one and the comments that Gabriell made are absolutely correct. Even if (as you say) you are not guilty of the offenses she has stated, you have made no effort to put in check your peers. The insults and comments made by the blog creators and many of the people who write to them are as bad as the violence that we wage against each other on the streets. Instead of guns and knives you use the most powerful the written word. Racist don’t have to go very far to find stereotypical comments about us when they have you guys supporting all of the negative trash they’ve been using on their blog sites. At some point we will have to learn that if we don’t respect ourselves why should anyone else. Yes, I know that these blog sites are primarily for entertainment but do we have to verbally slaughter the few that Hollywood has chosen to give a job. As a kid growing up when TV was only offered in black and white, we used to be so proud to see a black person on TV and would call our parents to the room to see them perform. How sad it is to see us throw dirt over these few today.

I’m pretty sure she’s talking about Sandra Rose and Madia Takeout. However, Sandra is nasty and her blatant bias towards her favorites is known. For example, she loves TI and said something really asinine about him being a gun collector when he got busted by the Feds. Then she claimed that his lawyers said that she, Sandra Rose, was making it worse for TI. She actually tried to make herself seem more important. What’s so interesting is she was being nasty and critical towards the Jena 6 yet made excuses for her “boy” TI. She lost quiet a few bloggers for that.
Sandra hates Jay Z, Beyonce and LSWLH (Light Skinned With Long Hair). If you don’t believe me, check out her site. Girl is vicious.

First post ever here. Love this site. Found it by accident about a year ago, and as was previously mentioned, its not filled with trash and untruth. Just commenting on what Ms. Union said (and Gabby if you’re reading, no offense), take responsibility for the image you put out there. If you dont want to be viewed as a homewrecker, stop taking photos all hugged up on married men. I understand the right to associate with whomever, but she ain’t dumb to image and appearances. Fact of the matter is, celebrities make it their business to be seen in all the right places with all the “right” people. Don’t get upset if people “rip you to shreds”, that’s what some people do. Besides, it ain’t what they call you-ITS WHAT YOU ANSWER TO. Are u answering Ms. Union? I respect all three ladies as very talented actresses. You don’t hear the same rumors about Sanaa or Nia, because in a lot of ways they protect that image. The portray themselves as graceful, tasteful, and ladylike. Gabrielle is always impeccable with her choice of clothes, but she is frequently wrapped around a man, A MARRIED MAN. Just sayin…..

She said in the interview that once she was argueing with her ex-husband and three girls asked her to do the bring it on cheer and she said in tears “this is not the right time” and they were disappointed and till this day she still cant get over it that there experience with her wasnt well. Sanaa on the other hand doesnt care lol

@ Angela - I understand you getting somewhat offended but you know you stay away from all the unnessary banter so don’t take it personally. In my opinion I think she may be talking about Sandra Rose. I looked on the site a few times and that chick dogs everyone out then claims she hangs with everyone. Why would anyone with common sense want to hang out with her when she bashes everyone from Rihanna to Alicia Keys to Oprah. The reason folks like Kanye and TI and Kelly Rowland are doing interviews with you and the team is because your blog has integrity. You know you are doing a good job and we know you are doing a good job so keep doing what you do…I have been reading this blog since the jump and there is a reason why your fan base is rapidly growing. black bloggers can be mad all they want but i absolutely agree with gabby 100%. people sign up to actresses/singers, they do not sign up to have their personal lives ridiculed by the public. except for a few black celebs, white people don’t care that much and only care about these black celebs when they are in some type of trouble or there’s a big rumor going around. YOU black blogs help start these meaningless rumors and add fuel by claiming you have exclusives (not you concreteloop perse). the perfect example is beyonce and how people on these blogs, especially at bossip and sandra rose ridicule and spill hate on her. mediatakeout post all these FALSE stories about her then when it becomes a huge rumor, other black blogs think it’s okay to post it just cause it’s the talk of the town. eventually, white media or should i say mainstream media will pick it up cause ya’ll know they never really broadcast the good that blacks are doing. one thing that irks me is that most of these black blogs don’t bother posting a retraction when a rumor turns out to be false. they let it keep going, but let’s face it, black blogs do what they think they have to do to get hits.
i especially cosign on the last paragraph. you complain we don’t have enough black stars representing us and blah, blah, blah! yet, as soon as someone hits a certain magnitude of stardom, it becomes he/she’s soo fake, he/she doesn’t represent us, he/she’s fake, i’m so tired of her/him, he/she’s not black enough, he/she’s a sell out, he/she’s overexposed, this person needs to go sit down, and the list goes on. if you are going to complain about a black person being famous, then don’t complain about not having any black stars in the media
peace!!!!!!!!

#345 - Flatbush -
THANK YOU so much for that link… that’s the first I ever heard of this project, but found the trailer and this synopsis very interesting. A worthy project.
Angels Can’t Help But Laugh
Actress Terri J. Vaughn sits down with 25 of Hollywood’s African-American actresses to discuss how they deal with being in today’s entertainment industry. While media floods unrealistic ideas to the general public about these women, this documentary allows viewers a candid, unscripted exposure into the minds and hearts of these actresses. Ms. Vaughn sincerely removes these women from the characters we know, and reveals the essence of real women. These actresses open up to talk about their fears, disappointments, successes, families, and careers. The state of “Black Hollywood” is in a serious quandary, and these women hold no tongues when discussing their plights and obvious issues that are often quieted. Yet in that same moment of seriousness, each actress is able to relish in the splendor they bring to our television and film screens

Believe it or not there are some celebrities that just want to do their job without the publicity. They are many successful actors and actress out there who don’t get that much publicity but are known for their work. The only time they get photograph if it has something do with a movie premiere or important event. Actually the ones who are getting publicize are the ones whose lives are in a train wreck because the media and people feed off of those things. Gabrielle is right, black women hate on each other, actually all women hate on each other. The people who make nasty comments are mostly the women. Most of the guys just make a silly comment about hitting it and commenting on their looks. Celebrity or not, they have feelings and as human beings you should understand where they coming from when feelings are hurt. They were a time when celebrities lifestyles wasn’t as publicize, but they are so many nosy people in this world who like to be up in other people business and speculating about other lives but their own.

I don’t know why Black people always point the finger at White women who tan, get butt implants and lip injections. Our people are no different with the skin bleaching, long hair weaves, and colored contact lenses. Every race admires something that the other has and tries to achieve it.

Playing devil’s advocate here AND spittin some Real Talk …
Angel (or whoever) will quickly delete a post if there’s anything mean or malicious said about the CL staff. Perfect example: When CL had their BET spot and they posted their pics, a few people clowned the hell out of the way her, Brian and Tianna looked. Those posts were quickly abolished. Even before that, post where people bashed Angel or where folks called her out her name or clowned her in any way were removed with the quickness and banned. Now, if the CL folks were immune to getting their feelings hurt they wouldn’t care what people posted about them; no matter how vulgar or ugly. But they do care, as should Gabby.
My point is that Gabby has a right to get irritated when blogs, such as these, dog the hell out of her. But since she puts herself out there (being at parties, always cheesin’ up with somebody’s man, etc) she’s subjected to any type of ridicule someone wants to subject her to. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have the power of the delete key or a way to moderate what’s said about her. That’s why it’s unnecessary for Angel to be “offended” by anything Gabrielle or any other celeb says. Angel IS in a position of power and she has to own that power. Also, Angel has to understand that it would be no different if the shoe were on the other foot and she was the celeb who had to face the ridicule WITHOUT being able to control what was being said {shown} about her. Before you get salty, just remember how the show felt when it was on YOUR foot Angel.
There’s a certain responsibility that comes with running/moderating a blog and if you {Angel} can’t take the heat, stay outta the kitchen. My suggestion: accept the fact that you are culpable and you are an abettor in the rumor mill (whether you source or not). Just accept that. But also OWN it and don’t apologize, have regrets or get offended since this is the path you’ve chosen. You just have to thicken your skin just as you expect that the celeb whose ashy elbows you post prominently should thicken theirs. Otherwise, this is not the business for you.
Second point: I concur with Chillin in NY 100%. We don’t owe Black celebs shit. We are all people. We all eat from the same hole and we all shit from the same hole. Black celebs are not entitled to be treated with kid gloves solely because they’re BLACK. Respect is a privilege, not a right. And just because you’re on TV, can pay people to dress you when you’re out in public and have (potentially) mastered a craft that’s different than ours, it doesn’t mean you’ve EARNED everyone’s respect. It just means you EARN your money differently. Do something RESPECTABLE and then people may have a reason to respect you.
Third point: I agree that Gabby only picked on women because that’s what weak people generally do — pick a fight with someone who they think they can beat. She’d never stand up to the White media (doesn’t have enough clout or no one will listen) and wouldn’t cross a Black man (doesn’t want to lose her “eye candy status). So yes, it’s easy to target sisters. But isn’t it ironic that she’s talking about sister’s uplifting each other and then puts them on blast herself?? lol. My advice to Gabby: get some of that same thickening cream I was telling Angel about. Life is about people disliking you for no reason. The secret is not giving them the power of knowing that you care.
Final point: I think Black blogs have done a lot for Black folks and I have yet to see it ruin someone’s career. People ruin their own careers. I just hope the celebs who are irritated with blogs understand that there’s more to life than worrying about what people think about you. And actually, these sites give folks information on people who would otherwise be “nobody’s” {read: Lil Mama, Sean Kingston, those Chiceknoodle soup with soda on the side people, etc.}. This is why a good publicist knows that there’s no such thing as bad press.

I agree with Gabby too..this is in some way hurting our black stars..just because “Page six” writes it..doesn’t mean we have to promote it…but concrete loop is official..unlike media take out who lies and just crosses the line…some Blogs tend to forget that No ones perfect…only god can judge us.

maybe black people should own the sites that bash white people
and white people can own the sites bashing black people
then we cant complain about anyone hating on thier own people
we can just hate each other

I help run a website targeted toward underepresented minorities in the medical field. And recently, the media reported that it was a black surgeon who operated on Kayne Wests’ Mom. I made the decision NOT to post anything about this on the site because I choose not to be a part of disparaging this Black man. The white media will, before it’s all over with, do a through enough job without my help.
So I say if you can sleep at night with whatever you do, more power to you. There are no right or wrongs in all this, it’s just what you’re willing to live with.

@ Ms Mac I agree with you. And let me find out some of these black blog owners are starting to smell themselves. Please believe if any of these blogs didn’t exist, we would still get the same information they copy and paste anyway! As you can see they all post about the same shit, just different formats, styles and commenters! Angela, please take it down a notch boo.

I agree totally, However there is a lot of blame to go around. Like I said before on some level we all are wrong.
Its human nature to spill a little tea, and hold the cup while its being poured. I think the blogesphere just takes every human flaw and ailing and magnitizes it. I think however its silly to admonish Angel-when to me she is the most responsible with her reporting. There are a long list of others that need to be checked before she should including a certain someone with reckless comments that supports a certain rapper in machine gun collection and selling (as his right to bear arms).
I do think that some of this blog gossip stuff has gotten way out of hand. A few people have gotten a wiff of what Angel has done and totally exploited it again at the expense of quitting respectable professions like law ie MTO and YBF.
In my opinion there are 1million ways to skin a cat and make money. Why everyone is trying to saturate ONE avenue of black gossip is really mind boggling to me. To me the real next level is to monitize and EVOLVE the brand. NO BODY is trying to take this venue to the next level aside from ad dollars. Angel however has moved from all gossip to real solid entertainment and black pop culture reporting thats smart and interesting. And she’s still young. This site wasn’t what it was 2 years ago. Just like most of us who are in our 30s aren’t who we were even 10 years ago.
Lastly, major ad sponsors are also to blame i have gone on many black sites with some exlcusive sponsorship from folks like cover girl etc. What is the message that they are sending to other black women. That’s something to think about Gabby when you take a six figure endorsement of a cosmetic company that jumps on the very venue that you dispise.
