I know that and SHE KNOWS THAT, so why doesn’t she MAKE THE BEST OF A BAD SITUATION? Why doesn’t she actually STUDY THE ART OF ACTING, be more than a cinematic nonpresence, a woman saying her lines in every scene? Furthermore, why doesn’t she CHOOSE HER ROLES WISELY? I’m sure she’s had the opportunity to do INDEPENDENT FILMS AND OTHER LOW BUDGET, BUT RELEVANT PROJECTS, why does she CONTINUE TO CHOOSE THESE ILLITERATE MOVIES, WHY DOES SHE CONTINUE TO CODDLE THIS IMAGE OF HERSELF AS A B-MOVIE SEX SYMBOL, CHOOSING ALWAYS AND BLATANTLY THESE LOWLY PROJECTS, COMEDIES AND LOVE STORIES, BECAUSE THEY MEET SOME NARCISSISTIC END THAT OTHER, MORE MEANINGFUL PROJECTS NEVER COULD?

I cannot and will not even pretend to feign some argument against white Hollywood tearing us down. They do. But, ultimately I’m sure we can all agree that Hollywood IS WHITE. It’s THEIR GAME, essentially AND EVEN WE EMBRACE AND ASPIRE TO EUROPEAN NOTIONS OF BEAUTY. So, it’s not really credible, arguing at this point that we’re being done wrong in Hollywood… You know the deal before you get into it, that’s why you study and try to excel (as Angela Bassett has), you try to be a quality actress (as Angela Bassett) is … I didn’t use Halle Berry as an example because she fits the European mold (although you’d be crazy to argue that she’s not leaps and bounds ahead of Gabrielle in the acting department. She is, deservedly, a superstar). I chose Angela, instead, because she is a beautiful woman, a woman apart from the vapid stereotypes, and yet she is successful because she takes her art SERIOUSLY, unlike Gabrielle. Angela is striking and serious as an actress. Look at her. There’s a lesson in Angela Bassett. You don’t become some movie mannequin, an incessant bump on a log until, of course, you bring yourself to some contrived flailing and fluttering or stoic indifference while some man-always some man-professes his wanting to do this or that with you.
