ROBIN ROBERTS SHAVES HEAD ON T.V.

ABC’s Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts let cameras film her as she made the decision to shave her head on camera. Roberts, 40, began to lose her hair when she started chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer earlier this summer. She reported on ABC this week:

Emotionally, it was devastating and draining. And as so many who have traveled this path before me had encouraged, as hard as it was, I knew what I had to do. I shaved it all off.

You know everyone tells you to shave your head preemptively. To go ahead and do it before it starts falling out and I thought, no, not me, that’s not going to be me, because some chemotherapy patients don’t lose their hair.

But let me tell you, I’ve joined that choir. That’s a bit of advice I now preach, because when it starts to fall out, phew, that’s rough.

To wear a wig or not to wear a wig is a very personal decision for everyone who goes through this. This is my work, and I love my job, being part of your morning each day, but I never want to distract you from the story I’m reporting. [ READ MORE + VIEW VIDEO ]

Fly, ohmygosh. I just had to respond…

“No one wants to see the effects of cancer” Damned right. But not in the way that you think…If you are black…do you know that you are more likely to get breast cancer than any other race of women because traditionally WE do not seek medical care? Do you know that WE are coming down with an extremely aggressive form of breast cancer that is killing us in droves?

I applaud Robin..not only as a black woman but who a woman who is using her celebrity and position to educate and help others…

.Fly, sweetie, just stop commenting…we know you ain’t Fly as soon as you start typing. Ignorance and callousness doesn’t suit you.

Robin, we are all praying for you! Keep strong and we know you will be
this ugly disease! Women, especially 40 and over, get your mamogram
and the ones that have a history of Breast Cancer in their family need
    to get one every year.

    “GOD BLESS YOU ROBIN”

I would like to say that I am so proud of this woman. Cancer is NO joke but she is being very strong. I admire her courage. I would also like to commend whoever is responsible for ensuring that she remains at her job. Renee Zellweger (sp) was also diagnosed with Breast Cancer but CBS fired her from her job while she was battling the disease.

    BEST WISHES TO ROBIN ROBERTS!

FYI: ROBIN ROBERTS IS CLOSE TO 50 YEARS OLD – SHE HAS SAID THIS HERSELF.

WHY ARE YOU REPORTING OTHERWISE??? I AM CERTAIN SHE IS WONDERING AS WELL – 10 YEAR DISCREPANCY – GET IT TOGETHER

    YOUNG, BLACK and FABULOUS

    @ fly

That ISH that you just stated… was sincerely IGNORANT!

Saying that ignorance is bliss is an complete understatement!..and in the midst of this idiocracy, I want to thank the Lord for working on me! Thank you Lord helping me realize that there are & will always be millions of ignorant people in this world.
Instead of ripping them a new @$$ they way I’d really like to, and stressing myself out unessecarily because of their stupidity, I’m learning to simply pray for them! Thank you Lord!

Fly, I pray you find direction in your life.

Robin Roberts is still beautiful – hair or no hair. I have always admired her grace and poise. She is classy, lovely, professional and articulate. Robin, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  16. nicholelibra

I may be the minority here, but I think she looks way better WITHOUT hair. No hair really brings out her eyes more.

And how anyone can say anything negative about Robin is beyond me. I met her once late last spring right before the cancer news broke, and let me tell you, she’s the sweetest person and is always smiling, even off camera.

  17. hiswife

Robin is beautiful bald.. I admire her for being strong and making people aware that cancer is not a “poor person’s disease” anyone can get it. My husband was diagnosed with cancer 1 year ago and he is 23 years old. I watched him go from 220lbs down to 178lbs because of chemo. I watched his facial, body and head hair all fall out and the worse part for me was anything else that happens I can help him with it, I can ease the burden but chemo is something you have to go through alone. No one can ease that for you.
And @ FLY you are ignorant and I hope for your sake that you nor no one in your family ever gets cancer because it is mentally, physically and emotionally draining and anyone that lives to tell their story is “hope” for everyone else going through it.

  18. Tammi

Robins beauty shines from the inside out. Losing her hair did not diminish her true beauty. Stay strong my sister. You are loved.

  19. BUCK

Robin, i’m not one to blow smoke, so i’m here say if you wish to wear a wig , wear it, but you really don’t have to because you look very very nice without one. If their is any thing that i know , it is a good looking women, and you are a very , very good looking woman, hair or no hair. Good luck to you and ‘m praying for you.

  20. wow that’s very brave….. she BEAUTIFUL with or w/o hair….. I hope she beats this…. STAY STRONG! :)

  21. Wish her the best. She looks good still. Actually cuter.

  22. ChristinaBrown

    sHE LOOKS SO BEAUTIFUL, THOUGH…

  23. jscene

I KNOW IT’S BEEN SAID TO BE OUR CROWN AND GLORY, BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT’S JUST HAIR. IT’S THE STRUCTURE OF THE FACE AND OUR PERSONAL FEATURES THAT MAKES US BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE. ROBIN IS SO BEAUTIFUL, SHE DIDN’T EVEN EVER NEED HAIR. I REMEMBER A WHILE BACK, I GREATLY DAMAGED MY HAIR WITH PHOTO SHOOTS AND THINGS OF THAT SORT, AND SO I WENT TO MY STYLIST AND HE CUT MY HAIR, AND HE TOLD ME, DON’T WORRY, YOU DON’T EVEN NEED HAIR AS PRETTY AS YOU ARE…AND HE WAS RIGHT…I NEVER LOOKED MORE BEAUTIFUL, UNIQUE, AND TRUE TO MYSELF THAN AT THAT TIME. HONESTLY, ALL WOMEN CANNOT GET AWAY WITH THIS, JUST TELLING THE TRUTH, BUT ROBIN, YOU ARE ONE OF THOSE WOMEN……WHEN YOUR HAIR GROW BACK IN, JUST ICING ON THE CAKE.

WHEN YOU ARE FIGHTING FOR YOUR LIFE, HAIR IS THE LEAST OF YOUR WORRIES. AND LATER ROBIN, IF YOU WANT, YOUR HAIR WILL GROW BACK IN ALL THICK AND HEALTHY. YOU’RE GOOD GIRL, DON’T WORRY ABOUT NOTHING BUT GETTING HEALTHY.

    STILL PRAYING FOR YOU.

  24. OLD SCHOOL YOUNG CITY

    Robin in a hero!

May GOD be with you, sister.

  25. OLD SCHOOL YOUNG CITY

    oops, ROBIN IS A HERO!

  26. Alvin

My prayers goes out to her. She’s a beautiful sister with or without hair. I love bald women. It’s natural and very beautiful.

  27. gdlywoman

Shucks, she’s still pretty WITHOUT her hair! Rock that bald look, girlfriend!

  28. Mina

Robin is absolutely beautiful with/without hair. Even though she rocked the baldie, she needs to go with whatever makes her comfortable. Shout out to #42. When I was going through chemotherapy and lost my hair while in the hospital, all they had available were blond and red wigs. Black women in the struggle would truly appreciate an acceptable option. Attitude is everything, so I know Robin will reign victoriously. God bless her!

NOTE TO ALL: AT THE LEAST, GET AN ANNUAL PHYSICAL EXAM. GET SCREENINGS. FOLLOW UP – BE YOUR OWN HEALTH ADVOCATE–NO ONE ELSE WILL DO IT FOR YOU.

GOD BLESS YOU with optimal health.

  29. Lula Mahone-montgomery

    Robin,

You are a beautiful black woman.

  30. R. Coiro

    Hi Robin,

I wish you all the best as go through this. I am a breast cancer survivor, professional librarian, mother and grandmother. I’ve had to have chemo therapy 3 times since my diagnosis in 2001 which was about 3.5 months before 9/11. Initially I had a mastectomy and radiation once. I am a survivor of 7 years. Not that it’s really relevant to anything but I’m an African-American (don’t know why but I thought I should say that probably because of the reports that we do not survive as long as other racial groups do with this disease).

I know what you are going through and I am so glad that you are sharing it with others plus continuing to work. Lots of folks do not understand that a diagnosis of cancer does not necessarily mean that a person’s quality of life has to go all the way down hill. It is possible to go through the chemo treatments while still living a relatively normal life. Your experience exemplifies for everyone that cancer survivors are not the “walking dead.” We can and do live productive and fun lives while coping with this chronic disease.

    God Bless you!
