Tia Mowry, 29, is covering the newest issue of Jet Magazine this week. The actress spoke candidly about how she is constantly trying to step out of that ‘child actor’ box, her relationship with fiancé, Cory Hardict and more. Here are some snippets I typed up for the CL readers.

TIA ON BEING GROWN
“I am a grown woman. I’m almost 30 years old and I want to be portrayed as that. I don’t want people to freeze me at 14. I want to move forward in my career. I think I’ve worked too hard to let people know that I am not that little girl that you’re used to seeing. I can take on challenging roles. I want to continue to push myself and make myself a better actress.“

“There have been lots of times that Tia and I have auditioned for the same role. We’re very different actors. I was very, very happy for her [when she got the role on 'The Game'] and think she is doing a fabulous job. I don’t think anyone else could play that role better than she can, including me.“

“Cory and I, we are so happily in love. He is my best friend and mentor. My fiancé is [also] an actor. I’m always there for him. I’m always supporting him on his auditions, coaching him and being there for him emotionally.“

I love the Game. Someone took acting classes b/t the first season and the 2nd season. Even thou the first couple of episodes were blah I hung in there b/c the script was great. Also remember******* LIVING SINGLE????***** It started off bad but it was one of the most successful black shows we had. Tia looks nice but her man looks gay. Sorry but so true!

#3…LMAO. I remember when Tia & Tamera were in that singing group in the early 90s called “The Voices”. That “Yeah Yeah Yeah” song was my shit! I was just listening to it last week! It took me a while to find the song so I could download it. But I got it now. That was the pre-”Sister Sister” days..lol
They really have grown since the singing group. I love how they still have longevity in their careers. Singing didn’t work out…so keep it moving with acting. That’s what they do best.

I’m glad for her. I agree with her sister, I think she is doing an excellent job playing Melanie on that show. The role fits her. It’s good to see her playing another role, instead of just a kiddie role all the time. Good for her. But her man does look gay. But oh well, as long as she’s happy that’s all that matters.

I am so happy for both Tia and Tamera. They always seemed to be sweet girls. And I also agree Tia is doing her thang on that show. It was a little odd seeing her doing such an “adult” role in the beginning but now I can’t see anyone else in that role.

I understand she may not want to play kiddie roles, but she does so well in those roles. I think she’s on the right path to crossing over, with her role in The Game. I hope she doesn’t make a boo-boo and just totally cross over because she is looked at as one of the twins of “Sister-Sister”. I think that would be a disaster considering she has a booming child-fan base and there are plenty of “grown” actors that she will have to compete with for jobs.

I’ve always loved the Mowry sisters. They are great role models. I think Tia is doing a great job on The Game.
I love Tia in The Game, she does a very good job portraying Melanie. The show is getting VERY good and I ‘m hooked on it. Derwin is just too sexy with a beautiful smile! I think Tia’s character moving in with Dionne is a BIG mistake! Can’t wait to see what happens!
