Everyone’s favorite Bad Girl, Cheri Dennis finally releases the video for her single, “Portrait of Love.” We posted pics from the set of the video about a month ago, and now it’s finally here. The video was shot at Opera nightclub in Atlanta, Georgia, and the choreography was done by a friend of mine, Sean Bankhead. So shout out to him.
Cheri’s album, In & Out of Love was released exclusively on iTunes earlier this month, and is set for release in stores on February 26th. Today, Cheri has a special in-store live performance in Chicago’s Apple store, so if you’re in the area, check her MySpace for more information.

Her dancing is kinda awkward. I don’t think the song really showcases her vocals enough, it’s kinda forgettable. I still like her voice though.

I really like the song.. and I like the video too! lol. I guess I’m the first one. I heard her real voice try to come out a few times, but nal this is nowhere near what she can do. I remember her and Keri Hilson were on my “Folk to watch out 4″ list together, but Timb helped Keri to be out there more (wayy more) than Diddy has helped Cheri. Plus, Keri writes a lot. And I don’t even like the type of material Timb has Keri singin on, but her solo material is (or was) more R&B. When she finally steps out I don’t know what her material will sound like.

As someone who has worked with Cheri before on a photoshoot and getting to know her and converse with her, I can tell that she has so much potential. She is so cool and a true star. I can’t really comment on much…but I will say this: She puts her all into whatever she does. She is always prompt and professional, but I feel that afterher cd was shelved for so long, the least she could have gotten was a better video. She deserved a BIG BUDGET video. But no matter what, I will cop her cd and support her.

Cheri may have talent, but Bad Boy will never exploit it. This was not a good choice for a single AT ALL. And I agree with others about Cheri’s styling – she’s a thick girl -not fat by any standards other than Diddy’s *rolls eyes*. She needs a stylist that will exploit her thickness (like J Hud’s) instead of trying to cover it up with that crap she’s wearing in the video.

Cheri, Cheri, Cheri. What happened? I actually liked the song, a month ago. To me it’s old now. But, the video adds nothing to the song. In my opinion, this video failed because:
1. She is stiff. Not very fluid in her movements. AKA she can’t dance.
2. The overall concept of the video is played. Rather boring.
3. And the choreography in all was weak. Maybe they kept it basic for Cheri, but she made it look horrible.
4. Yeah, her style is not happening at all.
5. She does not seem to be camera ready. I think she needs some more time or something to become more savvy at working the camera.
6. About the song, it’s not a HIT YOU IN YOUR FACE HIT. She sounds too average and I know she can do better.

I wish I had good things to say because I always liked Cheri and was waiting for her to get her shine on. Can’t believe Bad Boy did her like this. 2 years ago, when I first got into Buisness school I was all like, I wanna work for Bad Boy, now…its not even a remote possibility.
The direction/concept on this video was pretty boring except for the naked women in bed shot. But Cheri’s makeup was horrible in that shot.
