VIDEO: KANYE WEST SPEAKS ON THE PASSING OF HIS MOTHER & THE MEDIA

( Thanx Laura & NeekokeeN )

Kanye West spoke on stage in Brussels, Belgium on Sunday (11/18/07). The rapper talked about the passing of his mother, his emotions, and the media. He also dedicated the song ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ [by Journey] to his mother. I typed up most of what he said since some of you asked.

.. The problems that we’re going through, the situations and hard times. And who would ever thought that these same songs would have to help me. And these shows, every show that I do has a different meaning to me now. Whether it’s “I Heard ‘Em Say, Nothings Ever Promised”, “You Can’t Tell Me Nothing”, “Jesus Walks”, “Touch The Sky”, or “That that don’t kill me can only make me Stronger”.

You know people call me and they say, “well you need to do this and you need to that.” And about 50 people, or 100 people that I ain’t never talked to in like the past 3 years call me out the blue talking about, “I just want to tell you that I give you [my] support and stuff.” Well I appreciate all the support and all that, but don’t suggest what I’m supposed to do.
[They say] “What you need to do is you need to stop touring and go home and clear your head.” Go home to what mother fucker?

Because if they see you out and you go outside and then the media catches a glimpse.. MAN FUCK THE MEDIA! Nobody can tell me anything about, you know when they talk about celebrity lives and real lives and the difference with all this being on T.V. Right now, you can’t tell me nothing.

And there’s nothing that she loved more then to come to the shows and scream louder than any fan. Because she was my first fan that was screaming before anybody else. My first manager. And if she was here, she would tell me to “get on that stage and kill it dawg.” That was her favorite word, dawg. She would tell me to go on this ‘Glow in the Dark’ tour and take over the world and “be number one like how I taught you to be baby.”

im not gonna lie, i was one of the ones that thought he shouldve took a break too. but now i see where he’s coming from. i cant imagine his pain. if this is how he feels fits best, go for it. whatever music he comes out with after this should be just the best. i have to agree, he is here to change the world && our music && his mother knew it all along. She raised a strong son so that when she wasnt here, he could carry on just like he is now. If yall cant feel that passion then you must be suffering from anehondia.

PLEASE READ kanye i want you to remmber all the good times just the good times i want you to remember her smile i want you to remember her scent her touch her laughter everything about that made her your mother. you knew who your mother was and what she stood for because i’m about give you some back in the day preaching you take your heart to god not to your boss not to your girl not to the pope take time to be alone and you praise him in the name of jesus christ rebuke the demons around and give the lord thanks GOD BLESS YOU KANYE

  4. what you know about that

God bless you Kanye. You do whatever YOU need to do to be okay. I’ve been there, it ain’t easy, but it does get better.

  5. He is doing the right thing by continuing to do his work, rather than sitting at home becoming more & more depressed over his moms passing. People always want to give their suggestions thinking they helping you, but truthfully that is the last thing a person needs is tons of suggestions in during a time like this for him.

Everyone grieves in their own way, & if this is the way he HEALS (by continuing to do what his mother wanted of him) Good for him.

  6. Candace

I agree with EVERYTHING he said.
He is stronger than anyone I know….to stand up to such an ordeal and face it head-on. I’m an only child, I’m as close to my mom as he was with his, and I don’t know how I could live without her or some of the same idiosyncrasies Kanye was described.
I wish I could give him a hug.

I too lost a parent and in some may ways is grieving. Time heals some wounds but through prayer it changes everything.

If people take the time out to work out their own problem they wouldn’t have time to try and run your life. He knew his mother better than any man therefore he knew what she would have wanted him to do. Quit focusing on the negative and admire her for being a strong woman who accomplished so much. Let Kanye do whatever it is he have to and RESPECT HIS WISHES.

Knaye is heartbroken right now, and if it were me personally I would not want to be SEEN, I would just want to go chill out with my family and have some time to be by myself, But music is his passion and this is probably what his mother would have wanted him to do, go on stage and be strong, hold your head up high Knaye we are all praying for oyu and you and your moms WILL BE TOGETHER AGAIN!!!! She is home now and soon you will see her again.

  10. Vanessa from Houston

Kanye, May the inspiration of your mother’s words in your life and career help you to overcome the odds of her pasting. As you said mom would have wanted you to go on more stronger than ever, always keep “God” first and carry her spirit with you everywhere you go. Much Love from your houston fans, Ms. V

Good for you Kanye! She will always be proud of you!

  12. Aaliyah Muhammad

Damn! That’s deep. I prayed for Kanye’s heart and soul, because I believe loosing your mother has to be a devastating feeling. I am in awe of his strength!!! But it’s so crazy, you can tell his pain in the way he can’t even say “mama” or “my mama” he only says “she” and “her.”

I’m glad he was able to find a way to deal with this. I pray, for all the people that has lost their mother, that it will only get better with time.

    Peace,

    Liyah

Kayne, you better do like your mother taught you! Noone can tell another how to grief…NO ONE! When he is ready he will close the door and be by hisself, but if touring is what he needs to get by then so be it!

He has cried, he will cry for a long time but if he wants to feel the love of his fans right now…he ain’t doing nothing wrong!

    RIP Donda!

  14. Cameka

Kanye I commend you for being strong. God is with you, continue to do good music like your mother would want you to. I’ve been praying for you every since I heard about your mother. Think of your mom’s passing as a celebration of life. I didn’t know her but just by seeing her on television I know she was a strong headed black, woman that raised a strong headed black man. She’s inspired me a lot to have a bond with my seven year old son like you and her have because she’s still with you in your heart. Kanye you will be fine keep God first ,and contiue to pursue your dream like Ms. Donda West would want you to. You both are very big inspirations in my life.

Doing what he loves, performing, is probably what he needs to get through this. Everyone grieves in different ways.

  16. The stars they came to support him were Jay Z, Beyonce, John Legend, Common Eryka Badu, Pharrel,Fonzworth Bentley. Anita Baker performed and John Legend and Common performed. She was carried away in a horse and carriage and they released doves at the cemetary and I was told he had a hard time letting his dove go but from what I heard it was a beautiful service.

    To NO.24
I was at the show in Belgium and I’m from Holland, but not because we we’re not Americans doesn’t mean we didn’t gave him his respect!!So what do you mean they don’t know how to react?!!
You can ofcourse be quiet and watching the show but he did an amazing performance full of energy and when he dedicated that song we applaused for his strength and courage in this difficult time and it’s a way to support him and I think that’s the only way for his fans to show him they care.
So I don’t know if you were there at all?! Or you’re just have your opninion based on that you tube clip?!
But I can tell you there was def. a good vibe and it truly felt special!!
Even Common was standing there in front of the stage and applaused and bounced hard on all his tracks!!!
    Sorry you missed it

    Dear Bro. KANYE,

You are a superb young brother and an good role model for our young Nubian brothers and sisters. There is something very special about a mother’s love, it cannot be matched in time or space, not taking anything away from our Nubian Fathers, who give us the seed of life.
But our Mothers are our first teacher, she is our nourisher and sustainer. Kanye you and your mother remind me of my son’s and I relationship. Your mother is not dead she lives, through you. I lost my mother at a tender young age. My father died a few years ago and I read the eulogy at his homecoming, with power of the Most High God and the strength my father instilled in me, I cried while reading his as well.
I see my fathers and mothers strength and courage in my own children. Your mom lives on in you, my brother. You are her legacy….
Kanye we support you always, especially now in your time of need. Your’re gonna be alright, you’re gonna become a force to be reckoned with, especially, with the New Era of time we as a Nation of people are evolving into.
May Our Creator Bless You and Keep You Strong,

Peace and Love at All Costs!!

  27. Belinda

I’d just like to say that being a mother myself, I too would have been just as proud as Kanye’s Mother. However, Dr. West has been chosen by a Higher Authority (that we down here have no control over) to take on a task that is much GREATER than her duties down here consisted of and that to me is being with Kanye in everything that he does and the success that he successeds from here on out. May she rest in peace and I pray that Kanye be Blessed with peace of mind. He may have lost his most dearest one here but, he gained a new Guardian Angel that will launch him to higher success. There’s no stopping him NOW !!!!!! May Peace be Upon Him

hi, guys, nice discussion, Thanksgiving Day is coming, would you love to try something new to celebrate this great holiday? How about interracial hot dating? so many singles are there….you will be surprised…

  29. pastor sarena watkins

My heart goes out to Mr. Kanye West right now. He just lost his mother. The single most vital person in one’s life after God Himself. I love Mr. Kanye West for having the courage to sing ‘Jesus Walks’ and my eldest son Greg who is 22 yrs. old loves Kanye’s music. Nobody can offer Kanye the real comfort that he needs right now accept for the Lord Jesus Christ. Please don’t try to offer him any advice right now-he doesn’t need it. What he does need is your love and prayers to God on his behalf. Pray that God will keep him and guide him throughout the rest of his days so that the ‘wolves’ in the entertainment industry don’t get advantage of him. Pray, as I will that he’ll never turn to things like drugs and alcohol for so-called comfort. Kanye baby, you can and will make it-just like your strong mother taught you to! Continue to make your number one fan proud, as she is the only one who can really hold that position. Women like Dr. Donda West make me proud to be a black woman! She was beautiful and SMART. Afterall she had you Kanye. Be blessed baby, I’m praying for you now. Love, Apostle/Pastor Sarena Watkins & The King’s Doll Apostolic Ministries, Int’l. (678) 596-2466 John 3:16, Romans 10:9
