VIDEO: KANYE WEST SPEAKS ON THE PASSING OF HIS MOTHER & THE MEDIA

Monday, November 19, 2007

( Thanx Laura & NeekokeeN )

Kanye West spoke on stage in Brussels, Belgium on Sunday (11/18/07). The rapper talked about the passing of his mother, his emotions, and the media. He also dedicated the song ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ [by Journey] to his mother. I typed up most of what he said since some of you asked.

.. The problems that we’re going through, the situations and hard times. And who would ever thought that these same songs would have to help me. And these shows, every show that I do has a different meaning to me now. Whether it’s “I Heard ‘Em Say, Nothings Ever Promised”, “You Can’t Tell Me Nothing”, “Jesus Walks”, “Touch The Sky”, or “That that don’t kill me can only make me Stronger”.

You know people call me and they say, “well you need to do this and you need to that.” And about 50 people, or 100 people that I ain’t never talked to in like the past 3 years call me out the blue talking about, “I just want to tell you that I give you [my] support and stuff.” Well I appreciate all the support and all that, but don’t suggest what I’m supposed to do.
[They say] “What you need to do is you need to stop touring and go home and clear your head.” Go home to what mother fucker?

Because if they see you out and you go outside and then the media catches a glimpse.. MAN FUCK THE MEDIA! Nobody can tell me anything about, you know when they talk about celebrity lives and real lives and the difference with all this being on T.V. Right now, you can’t tell me nothing.

And there’s nothing that she loved more then to come to the shows and scream louder than any fan. Because she was my first fan that was screaming before anybody else. My first manager. And if she was here, she would tell me to “get on that stage and kill it dawg.” That was her favorite word, dawg. She would tell me to go on this ‘Glow in the Dark’ tour and take over the world and “be number one like how I taught you to be baby.”

Kanye is being very strong especially with his tragedy just happening not too long ago. So sad, but good to see him at least trying to address his public and be strong.

I love him for that.

I understand what kanye is saying when he says that people tell him to stop touring and go back home…go back home to WHAT? The worse feeling in the world is not necessarily having a funeral, and not having visitors at your house consoling you, but the when everyone leaves at the end of the night and you are left there all by yourself…THAT is the worse feeling in the world.

I believe he will get through this and do some more amazing things. I cannot wait to see what he unleashes on the masses in the next 12 months. We have yet to see his true potential.

It’s so difficult a situation…. there’s got to be a window of time where you just have to let a guy as outspoken as Kanye just say what he wants — he gets a pass on anything he says for like the next year. (Not that this was bad, but just anything silly or out of place that he says, you just gotta let it ride.)

I know he’s frustrated, but I kinda think the advice whichever friend gave him to just take some time off is good advice. Perhaps performing is a way of getting your mind off of things and escaping for a bit. But if it were me and I had the money that Kanye does, I’d just go home, look at some pictures and movies of my mom and just be with family for a bit. But it’s up to him how he wants to handle this.

I just feel so bad. (The worst was seeing him just bent over with his face in his hands while the music was playing in the video posted earlier). You could feel the pain through the screen.

No one can understand what a person goes through when they lose their mother. There is no right time or right way to grieve. He is doing what he feels he needs to do to help him cope with his loss. Although he is an entertainer and in the public eye - the public does not have a say in his life - esp. not in this matter.
Nothing can be more personal and painful -

A house is not a home - home is where the heart is, and as close as he was with his mother; she lives deep in his heart….. and always will.

OK - last thing….. I just don’t think he should feel pressure to finish tour dates just because money is on the table. I almost was getting a little frustrated listening to the crowd while he was speaking…. I know they’re from another country and maybe don’t know how to react, but you just kinda wanna hear silence and a little applause.

Not sure about others, but I wouldn’t really wanna see a concert with this having happened. Half of Kanye is watching him come out all cocky and stuff. It just doesn’t seem right. What would Golddigger be like?

That tribute was so uplifting and moving. I am so proud of him for staying strong and having such honesty about his feelings. I truly admire him for letting the world see his intimate expressions of love for his mother. That dedication was befitting of his unique way of approaching life. Rather than being a sad moment, it honored her spirit through intense color, sound, emotion and creativity that defis the average way most people cope with loss.

I love what I know of this young man and I pray that God will keep him strong.

This is just so sad. No one knows his pain until they experience the sudden loss of a parent. I just pray for him and his family right now. Death is hard to deal with as it is and it’s even worse when you are in the public eye and you have people scrutinizing every move you make what is wrong and what should/should not have been done. I just pray that God will give him the strength to get through this; God only knows what a heart can survive.

Kanye, grieve, be strong, cry, and do what you have to do to be ok… and know that we, as your fans, love and support you!

She was so proud of you! RIP Dr. Donda West- May your spirit live on

watching this is soo sad

i admire his strength for continuing performing, and i know from personal experience that in times of turmoil it is best to work or focus on something. it takes ur mind off things

however i also know that not grieving can really screw a person up. u shouldnt hold anger, grief or sadness inside u should cry as much as u need.

i hav loads of respect for kanye and hope he stays strong

58.

Y Yes It's ME!

Tuesday, November 20, 2007 /

I lost my mother at the end of my first semester in Law school & everyone looked at me crazy when I said I wanted to go back and finish and not take anytime off. But I knew that is what my mother wanted…Kanye knows what he is doing and maybe being on stage in front of those who support him and love what he does is therapy for him…it ain’t about the paycheck or ego it’s about…taking time off for me would have been the worse thing to do and it maybe the worse thing for him too. Especially the way the media hounds celebrities, right now he might not even get the chance to grieve “properly” without the media looking and scrutinizing…..I am sure once his tour is over and thing die down a bit he will take some needed time for himself to reflect. Unless you have gone through a similiar situation it is hard to judge what he should be doing. Different strokes for different folkes and what you may think is the “proper” way to grieve isn’t necessarily the way someone else needs to do it.

Everyone grieves differently. I think performing was therapeutic for him but I also think thats why he had the breakdown he had. You can only hold it in but so long. I know he’s going to have plenty more breakdowns but if being on stage helps him prolong them, then that’s his decision. I think the media has been excellent. I’ve seen the media make jokes about celebrity death so much (crocodile man-can’t think of his name right now) that it’s finally nice to hear them be supportive. I also think they know better than to play with a black man that just lost their mother so I doubt if they’d do anything stupid. They know who to mess with!
Keep your head up Kanye!!

I applaud him, there is no proper way to grieve. God gave each of us a life to live and you have to live life how you see fit.No one should be saying “he should” or “if i were him” especially in this situation, cause it’s not you,and if it were you wouldn’t want anyone telling you how to deal with a crisis. He is alot stonger than i could imagine myself being at this time. I always respected him, after seeing this my respect is on a different level.

actually the dangers are with any surgery especially when you go under Anesthesia which is the real danger. i just wish people WOULDNT focus on the PLASTIC surgery so much with the passing of Dr. West. i know she would want to be remembered more for all the good she has done for Education.

I wish Kanye all the best, i lost the woman who raised me so i know how he must be feeling, and you know what? life is really funny, because i would of never thought i would have the strength to deliver her Eulogy, i thought i would be so distraught that i couldnt even stand, truth is delivering the Eulogy made me feel so strong as if she was smiling down on me for having that strength…SO Kanye you know what you need to do, people mean well but until they have gone thru it, its really hard to contemplate what a person may be feeling

22. THINKABOUTIT

“A house is not a home - home is where the heart is, and as close as he was with his mother; she lives deep in his heart….. and always will.”
—————————————

Exactly! When I think of home, I think of the presence of my family, not a place of residence. And in his case, the majority of his heart was within his mother’s presence.

I respect Kanye for what he’s saying because it’s very true. It amazes me how people whom you never hear from appear when things are bad just to tell you how to live your life when they really haven’t been around to know what you life is all about. I think it’s insulting…especially when they haven’t been there from jump. Their opinions may be sincere but they do not really have that right to tell that man what to do.

At the end of the day, it is what his mother or any mother would want for their child…finding closure and eventually continue to live their lives to the best of their ability. I pray he will find peace in these times of trouble.

Everyone deals with these situations in their own way, we have to respect Kanye for doing what he feels in his heart is best no one knows you better than you, so I feel him no one can tell him what he should do give your support and kind words and than move foward….the media is simply that the medial who cares what they say and what they make of things its all for entertainment by the end of the day only Kanye and his family know the truth and whats real… the real is he had a mother that loved him and supported him no matter what she has left a lasting impression on his heart and his memories and love for her make him stronger, she wanted nothing more than for her son to be the best at what he does so do you Kanye fu** everyone else!!!!

I love this man. I always have. I love his cockiness. It reminds me of my father and my husband and hopefully one day my young son. I see nothing wrong with it as long as you can back it up. Now, my love and respect for this man has hit a new height. He is intelligent, articulate, and self defining. Even in his darkest emotional hour he shines and will not be put into a box. He is the complete opposite of what hip hop/ rap music is today. He is a throw back to the real men of yesterday. And still he is on top of the musical world. I judge a man not by his looks, his popularity, or his fame but his character and Kanye has beautiful character.

This made me smile…seriously. Kanye is really a strong man…and Dr. West taught him to have a strong sense of self!!! I definitely don’t see Kanye on the road to destruction unlike so many others who would fall apart at a time like this.

Damn, Kanye has made me proud of him…I know Dr.West is smiling on him from heaven right now!

The images in the background of the angel are so moving because every time she turns her head the spot light lines up with them and it looks like the light is coming out of her eyes. It’s almost like the angel is shedding her light down on him or watching over him. I wonder if that was done on purpose? Probably. Kanye is being so strong through this whole thing.

To the person whosaid he sounds angry, not anger but the truth. It’s about somebody told the media to go fuck themselves especially some of these gossip blogs (not the Loop).
Hey, Kanye you right go home and do what the rest of these no life motherfuckers do sit on the internet and go form blog to blog talking about folks they know nothing about which most of the time is predicated on lies.
You broke mother fuckers stay home….BUT KANE LIKE THE LAST POST SAID KEEP MOVING!!!!! I ain’t mad at you!!!! DO YOU BRO!!!!!!

IT MADE ME FEEL GOOD SO SOMETHING VERY POSTIVE FOR OTHERS IS COMING OUT OF THIS FOR US ALL TO GROW FROM!!!

Kanye is one of the first Hip Hop celebrities that I can say honestly lives by his lyrics, I applaud kanye for his strength! I will always support any project he is affiliated with because I truly respect his character. When he says That that don’t kill me will only make me stronger, I believe him. Understand that everybody has a way of doing things that work for them. obviously performing is helping him get through this terrible tragedy so stop with your suggestions and just keep him and his family in your prayers. And Kanye don’t forget to go out on that stage and kill it Dawg!! Give it up to God and hold on to all your wonderful memories and good times.

I will have to agree and tell you Kanye, DO YOU. I lost my mother just 6 months ago.. Its’ one of the hardest things in life, but “don’t stop believing is right”. Life must go on, but they will ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS. I learned in my experience of everyone popping up out of the wood works, saying this and that, what i should do and so on is that I don’t regret my ways and actions after mom passed, I too did what she wanted for me and that was to live and take care of my babies. No one can put a guilt trip out to make me feel guilty for deciding to live and stay strong. My mother and I were absolutely best friends and I felt like my life was gone, but like you, we always remember their voices saying go on, get up, live baby and thats’ what gets you going like it always had. You know your mother, you know the relationship that you shared with her and with that being said, …CAN’T TELL ME NOTHING…. my prayers are with you and your family, just hold on and keep believing, God will come through, I’m tellin you. one love

I Love Kanye So Much, and I keep saying that so that my sister thinks I’m strange but I love him in that way like he’s the dude down the block or someone I went to school with or somthing. I thinks its the Chicago thing we get each other.(all Chicagoians). I feel him on having to work through it because going home to the place you most expect to see her is the hardest. and I’m speaking from experience I lost my mother on Thanksgiving a few years ago and even still its so hard for me to go to her house. Yeah he misses her on the road and everywhere else its just some places are harder to handle.

I have been Praying for you Kanye and I realize you will be okay because you know Jesus and what he is able to do so with that said you will survive. Stay Prayerful

I’ve always liked Kanye, his music and him as a person. Yes, he throws the occasional tantrum from time to time, but before people judge they need to find out the reason he feels he needs to have such a reaction.

I’m sorry for his lost, but I think it’s cool that he continues to do him, everyone grieves in their own way. And like he said, i’m sure his Mom would want him to keep going too!

Bottom line no one can tell or should tell another person how to grieve or mourn. Each person has to do what is right for them to get through the process

Too many people want to nitpick and tell others how to live their life while their own life is in shambles

I wish everyone would just leave him alone. No one will ever know what it feels like when you lose a best friend who was also your mother. They need to mind thier own business. He is doing what he needs to do, the show must continue on. Let him do what he wants to do, this is my boy and i feel him, i was bought up in the ghetto and i made it out of the ghetto. Yeah, he is cocky, and is very sure of himself. I am proud of him for that. I know he will not let anyone change him, his mom taught him way better than that and it shows. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. I love you Kanye for keeping things real and I know you will make it through this long and bumpy road you will endure, I know because I lost my baby brother last year and I am going through it.One Love Kanye, Peace.

She raised a strong son so that when she wasnt here, he could carry on just like he is now. If yall cant feel that passion then you must be suffering from anehondia.

He is doing the right thing by continuing to do his work, rather than sitting at home becoming more & more depressed over his moms passing. People always want to give their suggestions thinking they helping you, but truthfully that is the last thing a person needs is tons of suggestions in during a time like this for him.

Everyone grieves in their own way, & if this is the way he HEALS (by continuing to do what his mother wanted of him) Good for him.

I too lost a parent and in some may ways is grieving. Time heals some wounds but through prayer it changes everything.

If people take the time out to work out their own problem they wouldn’t have time to try and run your life. He knew his mother better than any man therefore he knew what she would have wanted him to do. Quit focusing on the negative and admire her for being a strong woman who accomplished so much. Let Kanye do whatever it is he have to and RESPECT HIS WISHES.

I’m glad he was able to find a way to deal with this. I pray, for all the people that has lost their mother, that it will only get better with time.

She’s inspired me a lot to have a bond with my seven year old son like you and her have because she’s still with you in your heart. So I don’t know if you were there at all?! Or you’re just have your opninion based on that you tube clip?!

Dear Bro. KANYE,

You are a superb young brother and an good role model for our young Nubian brothers and sisters. There is something very special about a mother’s love, it cannot be matched in time or space, not taking anything away from our Nubian Fathers, who give us the seed of life.
But our Mothers are our first teacher, she is our nourisher and sustainer. Kanye you and your mother remind me of my son’s and I relationship. Your mother is not dead she lives, through you. I lost my mother at a tender young age. My father died a few years ago and I read the eulogy at his homecoming, with power of the Most High God and the strength my father instilled in me, I cried while reading his as well.
I see my fathers and mothers strength and courage in my own children. Your mom lives on in you, my brother. You are her legacy….
Kanye we support you always, especially now in your time of need. Your’re gonna be alright, you’re gonna become a force to be reckoned with, especially, with the New Era of time we as a Nation of people are evolving into.
May Our Creator Bless You and Keep You Strong,

Peace and Love at All Costs!!

I’d just like to say that being a mother myself, I too would have been just as proud as Kanye’s Mother. However, Dr. West has been chosen by a Higher Authority (that we down here have no control over) to take on a task that is much GREATER than her duties down here consisted of and that to me is being with Kanye in everything that he does and the success that he successeds from here on out. May she rest in peace and I pray that Kanye be Blessed with peace of mind. He may have lost his most dearest one here but, he gained a new Guardian Angel that will launch him to higher success. There’s no stopping him NOW !!!!!! May Peace be Upon Him

My heart goes out to Mr. Kanye West right now. He just lost his mother. The single most vital person in one’s life after God Himself. I love Mr. Kanye West for having the courage to sing ‘Jesus Walks’ and my eldest son Greg who is 22 yrs. old loves Kanye’s music. Nobody can offer Kanye the real comfort that he needs right now accept for the Lord Jesus Christ. Please don’t try to offer him any advice right now-he doesn’t need it. What he does need is your love and prayers to God on his behalf. Pray that God will keep him and guide him throughout the rest of his days so that the ‘wolves’ in the entertainment industry don’t get advantage of him. Pray, as I will that he’ll never turn to things like drugs and alcohol for so-called comfort. Kanye baby, you can and will make it-just like your strong mother taught you to! Continue to make your number one fan proud, as she is the only one who can really hold that position. Women like Dr. Donda West make me proud to be a black woman! She was beautiful and SMART. Afterall she had you Kanye. Be blessed baby, I’m praying for you now. Love, Apostle/Pastor Sarena Watkins & The King’s Doll Apostolic Ministries, Int’l. (678) 596-2466 John 3:16, Romans 10:9
