ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Dréa

Dréa – Buttafly

Meet Dréa. This singer, songwriter, self-taught pianist, guitarist and drummer out of Buffalo (New York) is bound to make some moves in the music industry.

Influenced by Lauryn Hill and Prince as well as the “music politicians” (as she likes to call them) of the 60s and 70s, she has dubbed her music a ‘marriage of political consciousness paired with the raw undertones of intimate reality’.

“Back in the day, you had Bob Marley, Nina Simone and Marvin Gaye speaking for the mute. Their musical contribution to this world is invaluable. I’m going for that same method of staying true to you and saying what needs to be said like only I can say it!” -Dréa

Although she has a production deal out of LA; she has yet to secure a major album deal. If you like what you hear, make sure you check out her other great songs via myspace and tell her CL sent ya.

Drea…is beautiful, and her voice is beautiful… and to top it off there is a meaning to her message. All the above negative comments, yes we are all intitled to our own oppinions but, to sum it up.. if you do not have nothing nice to say do not say nothing at all. you might want to take a look at yourself… what are you doing? at least she is pursuing her career and achieving her dreams, what do you do for a living????
keep it up drea… i am very proud of you.

@ #39, i’m co-signing. go major too soon and end up a puppet answering to investors. build a solid, genuine, devoted fan base first then milk the majors for their distribution when they slither your way (and they will!)

As i sit here and read some of the comment on your site Drea it just proves to me they are hates on ignorant levels. They can’t understand/comprehend soul music.
so I would like to make it simple in this definition.

SOUL MUSIC: MUSIC THAT SURPASSES THE OUTER EAR, THE BUMP AND GRIND, THE CRUNK. IT PENETRATES THROUGH THE WALLS OF THE FLESH AND TALKS TO THE SOUL. IT MAKES A CONNECTION WITH THE INDIVIDUAL WHO IS LISTINING. IT CAN CONJURE UP MEMORIES, OR MAKE ONE FACE THE TRUTH IN OWN REALITY. IT CAN MAKE A PERSON SAY THAT THEY ARE SORRY, OR THAT THEY LOVE YOU OR FACE THE TRUTH AND SAY THAT THEY HATE YOU. SOUL MUSIC IS BEYOND THE PHYSICAL IT IS SPIRITUAL AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON’T UNDERSTAND EITHER YOUR SOUL IS SLEEPING OR YOU ARE SPIRITUAL DEAD OR YOUR EARS ARE FILLED WITH THE MUSIC THAT PROMOTES SEX, DRUGS AND VIOLENCE.
WAKE UP AND START LISITING TO THE SOUL.

I do like the song.I’ve been a fan of Drea’ for many years ,and what you will notice is that every one of her songs has meaning/depth. I would have to agree that her sound is different .If you listened to the radio for more than an hour you would realize that different is what’s needed.

    Be blessed Drea’
