Another year of red carpet stunners, blunders, and “oops, that almost slipped out” has passed by with no injuries. Infact, some of entertainment’s most noteworthy stepped their wardrobe game in ’07, and developed individual styles to set themselves away from the rest.
So without further ado, here is a list of this year’s best dressed black star power…
RIHANNA – 07′s “IT” GIRL
Rihanna was also my pick for “most improved” in 2006, and she definitely progressed in 2007. The singer not only took over the charts with “Umbrella”, but she took over the red carpet wherever she appeared. With her new edgy haircut, she had girls everywhere heading to the salon. Her model physique and her punk-glam style combined set her apart from any other female artist in her league. Not to mention, she was also our first feature for ‘Star Style’ earlier this year.
HALLE BERRY – 07′s STYLISH MOM-TO-BE
Halle Berry was one of many ladies in Hollywood to be expecting in 2007. Though most of the Mothers-to-be had their own stylish ways of outfitting their pregnancies, Berry vavavoomed whenever she stepped on the carpet. Her outfits already flattered her body before she started showing…and even flattered her more after!
NIA LONG – 07′s STYIN’ SECRET
Nia Long did not make many appearances in 2007, but when she did – she came with a smokin’ hot bang. Nia Long may be getting older, but she is not at all aging – and her classy and sexy style shows that off well.
KERRY WASHINGTON – 07′s FASHIONISTA
Kerry Washington has always been on top of things when it came to her looks, and she continued to be a style star this year. Looking at her unique and different styles from appearance to appearance, its obvious that Kerry is an admirer of all things high fashion. She no doubt, holds the reign of 2007′s fashionista.
COMMON – 07′s BEST DRESSED MALE
This was a great year for Common and his new album Finding Forever, and I really got a sense of him through fashion for the first time in 07′. Common displays his own individuality with not only his music, but his style as well – from his suit game to his casual gear.
JENNIFER LOPEZ – 07′s CARPET FAVORITE
Jennifer Lopez is one latina that will dress her butt off, and she made no mistakes this year. Though she is now still looking great as another Mom-to-be in 08′, she was killing the carpet way before her pregnancy in 2007.
KANYE & ALEXIS – 07′s FLY’EST COUPLE
We all know the Louis Vuitton Don does his thing in the fashion game, but when his girl Alexia Phifer steps up with him – they take over. With a designing girlfriend and fashionisto boyfriend, it’s only natural right?

These were some good picks and I think they all deserved to be on the list. My only question is what about Beyonce and Kelly. I have always admired both of there styles making the sophisticated lady look a must.

Ciara- I agree she has improved a lot from that horrible dressed she wore years ago on the BET awards.
Kerry Washington- I love her. She has a sophisticated beauty that most young girls should follow. She is just so classy.
Tia- I love Tia. She style is great. I just love every outfit she wears.

I absolutely LOVE CiCi so I’m glad she was recognized. She’s really improving and pretty soon her style is going to match her status in the industry.
I’m just wondering where Beyonce is on the list though? She ALWAYS has great style.
I do believe Rihanna deserves her spot on the list. No one saying she is a great artist or on top of anything, it’s just that her stylist did a tremendous job dressing her this year. Nobody use notice Rihanna on here until she had that bob-cut and until she started reinventing herself, style-wise. I’m not a fan of her or her music( HELL NO! lol) but I do agree that she was the best dressed female this year. Mad props to her stylist of course. Oh and the guys killed the carpet year… unbelieveable!

Rhianna was a great choice for 07′, but where’s Gabrielle Union? Kelly Rowland? & Tracee Ellis Ross? I know you didn’t have room for all, but honestly 1 of them could have replaced Ciara because she don’t deserve to be on that list. Yes. She’s improved, but not enough. I’m still smh at Beyonce being no#.1. Honestly I don’t get it. She’s too over the top with her accessories and shiny clothing. When she’s dressed by designers she looks nice, but when she dresses herself or wear that “house of dead wrong” she over does it. I can count how many times I’ve actually liked something that she’s worn. You did a good job of displaying pictures where she actually looks nice, but this is rare compared to the photos posted of her day to day on blogs.
Is it just me but does Alexis hair always looked uncombed? I mean she’s an cute chick but her edges always look like she needs a touch-up. I love that she has a round away girl look but the hair is killing me and so is the lipstick.
But other than that, Good choices. Everyone looks FABULOUS!
Gabrielle Union dresses so plain!!! Looks like she buys her clothes from Macy’s!! Nothing ever looks like its designer!! I mean yes you can buy off the rack but the Kohl’s fashion show she puts on is tired!! Everyone on the list deserved to be on it except for Jay-Z. His get up in Paris the week before was ugly especially the all black get up with the do-rag matching his attire!! I wont be caught dead with a flower satin scarf wrapped around my head ten times running to the store so he damn sure should have taken his mess off of his head!! Still trying to get wave at 40 yrs old!! He does have the swagger but should have gotten honorable mention. A. Keys should have been mentioned. She has stepped up her game considerably. the days of cornbraids and fedoras with the matching Willi Smith denim collection from TJ Maxx is over!! her stylist deserves an award!!
Not a bad list…great job Tianna…it is predictable like others stated…but these are the people that have been in the spotlight all year…so of course they’re going to make the list…and sure….there are several other artists who “could have” made the list…but there was not a need to put every black celebrity on the list that wore something nice a few times…
No matter how much people dislike Riri’s voice or her music or her personality etc, noone can deny that she looks INCREDIBLE!! she knows how to look fierce and is a fashionista

The list is pretty much right on and I love Tia’s style since she been in the spotlight. Common did look exceptionally well this year too.
I agree w/ most of your pics w/ the exception of Halle Berry, she’s never been fashion forward IMO. RiRI is a great top pick – if you don’t know how to dress, hire a stylist who can help you. Her stylists are on point. Not really sure why JLO needs to be feature on a black entertainment blog, especially considering she hasn’t been trendsetting since the bennifer days.
Kerry’s white dress is so cute. Kanye and his girl look cute together. Rihanna did wear a lot of nice stuff this year.
I agree with everyone on the list for the most part however it was certainly a misstep to not include the gold dress that Jada tore up! on the red carpet at the Oscars, she was definitely the most gorgeous woman in attendance.

Great Post. Ri Ri’s style has gone beyond improvement. She is one of the best dressed females in the game right now. I love just about every outfit she comes out with. Mucho props to her stylist she is definitely my idol.

Also, I think Jay should be in a class by himself. People hate on him, but all men, rappers and ball players dresses how he dresses. He said change clothes and people changed clothes. He still has his street swagger and everyone copies Jay’s looks. From his shades, to his kicks to his watches, to his vacay looks, Jay’s leading the pack in the male arena.
