BUN B SPEAKS WITH VIBE ABOUT PIMP C’S PASSING

Bun B called the VIBE Magazine offices early Thursday morning and gave his first interview since his friend and UGK cohort, Pimp C, passed away in a Los Angeles hotel room earlier this week. Here are some snippets:

VIBE: What memory of Pimp C stands out the most to you?
BUN B: So many changes and phases of life. I think on a good day, on a great day, I couldn’t point my finger at one thing. So many different memories: The day we signed, our first video, the first time we heard ourselves on the radio. So many different things. Most of my greatest moments in life, my greatest achievements, came standing right next to him, you know? So it’s hard to pinpoint any one thing. So many different moments.

Where were you when you found out he died? Who told you?
BUN B: I don’t want to get into all that because I don’t want to put other people’s grief out there. It was a very close person to myself and him. Because no one was there [when he died], we have to wait to receive information, receive the right information. But we got a call, and when they called, they were crying, and we knew what it was. It was my wife and I together. I was home with my wife. And we’re moving this week, so we were packing up a lot of different boxes. And it kind of helped me, because it helped me occupy my mind, but then I’d get a phone call from somebody, and different people wanting to make sure I was okay. It was and it is rough. It’s still very, very new. And for a lot of people, it’s still very surreal.

Have any funeral arrangements been made?
BUN B: Yeah, we’re still in the process of making it. It’s all depending on exactly when we get the body and preparation times, so we’re trying to be premeditative about as many things as we can. So, more than likely it’ll be this weekend, so people can be afforded the opportunity to come and mourn him properly. [ READ MORE @ VIBE ]

  14. Gllahone

IMO It doesn’t matter the cause of death at this point, dude is gone, and once all that information comes out we should keep in mind the things that can maybe cause harm in our lives, with that said I still feel like we need to let the dude rest in peace, and checking some replies on different blogs here and there people shouldn’t bad mouth a dude when he’s gone. That’s real foul, and you never know how karma works out in life for those talking reckless about a dude that’s gone and no longer amongst the living. RIP to the man.

  15. Brittany

i wonder what exactly happend to him…whatever the case may thats another great rapper gone. R.I.P to Pimp C!

  16. I’m still in shock about this. I’m glad that Bun finally spoke out, I know this is not an easy time for him.

I hope that all the speculations of what caused his death would stop. We’ll soon know the truth when the autopsy results come in, but until then it’s disrepectful to speculate on something so serious.

  20. cutie

Really it should not be that shocking or doubtful that he died of natural causes. As a healthcare provider I’ve seen patients, especially African Americans as young as in their early 20′s with hypertension, diabetes, strokes, aneurysms, and heart attacks. Often times prior to this life changing event the individual was unaware that they had any sort of high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Often times individuals present to their doctor’s office with nonspecific symptoms of chest pain, or headaches, or numbness and tingling in their extremeties and are literally told: well you are too young to have high blood pressure or you are probably just stressed out, instead of having a full workup to pinpoint the symptoms. Then obviously Pimp C was somewhat overweight after being released from prison. Also he lived in the south, as I do, so he probably ate an unhealthy fatty, salty, and sugary diet also, as I do. Also you have to take into account your own genetics and family history as nonmodifiable health risk factors also. This is a very unfortunate incident.
I am really heartbroken because I grew up listening to UGK and Eightball and MJG, who were and are true southern rap legends and urban storytellers who paved the road for ALL of these southern rappers of today. There beats and verses were always on point and especially in my teenage years when I think of an experience I may have went through (good or bad; legal vs illegal; high vs sober) I can identify any of their songs during that era. Pocket Full of Stones, Diamonds up Against that Wood, Cramping My Style, I Can’t Cope, Cocaine in the Back of the Ride, the list can go on and on. That real rap shit…ya know!!!
RIP Pimp C. Praying for you Bun B…be tough and strong…ya’ll paved the way! Most definitely!

  21. Nice to hear he is doin ok. Keep your head up Bun and try to be strong. Its always hard to deal with at first because it always does seem surreal.

R.I.P Pimp C, we luv ya!

  22. @20, 8BALL & MJG R TRUE LEGENDS. WE MET & THEY R SO CHILL. THE WHOLE UGK INFLUENCED ALOT OF PPL. THEY R DA STRAIGHT UP TRUTH, PUT DA WHOLE SOUTH OUT HERE, & WELCOMED EVERYONE WITH THAT TRUE HOSPITALITY. I AM NEAR TEARS LISTENIN 2 HOW TALENTED CHAD WAS.

  23. Lady CICI

God this is so sad. It still seems unreal. I hope that everyone can get through this, at this difficult time.

We love you and we miss you always! You’ll be forever kept in our hearts. RIP Pimp C. May You Be in Heavenly Peace!

  24. Bun B is gonna hold it down TEXAS STAND UP….R.I.P PIMP C

R.I.P Pimp C & all of my love go out to his family and near friends.

  29. ThinkAboutIt

#11 – yes you can die of natural causes at 33 and at 3.

Check out #20 response too… very good information.

Really it’s a very loose term generally used when the cause of death was a naturally occurring disease process, or is not apparent given medical history or circumstances. Since they haven’t had the chance to fully examine his body yet, it’s natural causes because there was no evidence of foul play – wounds, bruises, etc.

Natural causes can also include heart disease, high blood pressure, genetic disirders etc, and until they can perform a full examination and get test results, they will use the term natural causes as the cause of death.

  30. EAST_TX

My thoughts and prayers go out to C’s family but word on the streets in TX is that he Overdosed. Hope that is just a rumor and the autopsy clear that up for all that are spreading it.

  31. uptowngirl

R.I.P to Pimp C. That was a great interview w/Bun B. Everything was well said. Keep your head to the sky bruh.

  32. ThinkAboutIt

Seems he a Bun B were more like brothers than just business partners. This is hitting him hard or so many levels. The blessing is that like he said, they shared the best times together, and they showed that love and support for one another. It will be hard for him, but he’ll carry “his brother’s” music and legacy on.

  33. @ GetMeBodied, girl me too! When I went to read the whole article on Vibe website I was in tears. I’m like WTH? I never knew I would get THAT emotional. But ever since he passed I’m being playing UGK out. I just put Ghetto Twins in my CD player this morning though. No Pain, No Gain

@ #20 Thanks for that info. You learn something new everyday.

Bun B, thanks for finding the strength to speak out. I know you and C were very close and this is a trying time for you. Just know that God is always with you and only him and time can take away the pain you feel right now. I give thanks to you guys for putting South on the map. In the words of the G.O.A.T. Pac,

Baby don’t cry, I hope you got your head up
Even when the road is hard, never give up
Baby don’t cry, I hope you got your head up
Even when the road is hard, never give up
    Keep ya head up

  34. I read the whole interview and Bun B was so well spoken. I really agree with him about this whole “no homo” movement. That shit needs to go. I wonder how many males never tell their brothers, fathers, or best friends they love them because other will view it as “homo.” That is so lame. I’m glad they were able to rise above that and show their love as brothers to eachother without worrying what simple minded people think. Hopefully Bun speaking out will teach others to do the same.

    RIP Pimp C.

  35. Mike

Who are you guys kidding!!! Pimp C was no legend, Bun B is no legend, maybe 8Ball & MJG but UGK no way, name one legendary thing that they have done, name one song they created that will forever be remembered as a legendary song… I can’t… they had a few hot songs, all with features of an artist or group bigger than them, (Jay-Z, Outkast, T.I. 3 6) just to name a few… Pimp C dying is just another fat black guy dead. Honestly the guy sucked lyrically, as far as subject matter goes, he covered the same things over and over again. I digress… you guys are sad he died, me on the other hand, look at it like, another south rapper down, 176 more to go, I just wish he had taken Wayne with him…

    Rest In Pandamonium Pimp C
    You will not be remembered!!!

  36. @Mike, I haven’t used this saying in a while but I so mean it….

Do me a favor, go find the sharpest knife in your kitchen and fall on it!

  37. The H

I will not even comment about u Mike. I just want to say thank you to P.A. (Port Arthur, TX for those who may not know) for UGK and letting us adopt them as our (Houston’s) own. We love them like they were born and raised in Houston. Pimp C AKA Sweet James Jones will be greatly missed. Bun B did his first interview in Houston yesterday morning (12.06.07) on the radio and I was glad that he was able to talk…he cried a couple of times which is only normal but at least their fans know he’s ok (considering) and will be able to pull through. And in the words of Scarface (the prayer he made about Pac):

    As you journey into outerspace
May the angels help u lead the way
Make the prayers that our families make
Shine upon u so to keep u safe
And all the homies that passed away
Is there to greet u as u pass the gates
And as u head to the tunnels light
Hope it leads to eternal life

And I know there are so many other people who are suffering and who also are dealing with death I pray for them all.

  38. Mike, mike, mike you are SO wrong. I agree w/8ball & MJG being legends, but UGK was on the front line with them! Im too damn stressed out about the situation to go any further and anyone who has been following them since 92 knows what Im talkin bout! The fam is in my prayers. RIP Chad!

  39. Mike

What have they done that will forever be coined legendary Mrs. Sands?

  40. birdmane12

mike go Chris Benoit yourself and r.i.p to pimp c.

  41. wherearedawhytegurls

there no such thing natural causes when you die. a person can be 100 yrs but something caused their death. only thing police or docs look for is drugs or some foul play.

  42. Mike

now thats what im talking about… how do you listen to Mouse, listen to Pimp C, and have a name like Birdmane… what an oxymoron…

    “Go Chris Benoit yourself” lol

  43. h-town chic***

@ Mike -They have done what not too many rappers don’t have, which is LONGEVITY. You tell me what hot rapper from 1990 is still hot to this day?….not too many. You must be a youngsta if the very first hot song you heard was “Big Pimp”lol!

  44. h-town chic***

@ #41 There is such thing nautral causes; which means the cause of death was a naturally occurring process or is not apparent given medical history or circumstances.

I really didn’t listen to UGK, but I know of them. They have been in the game for a long time. Now I can say R.I.P. Pimp C, but the truth of the matter is, he is gone. I would like to address those that were close to him. Bun B, keep your head up. I know it is going to be hard because you lost more than just a business partner or a friend, you lost a brother. Just pray and pray for his family. Keep being the person that you are. Everybody will day someday. Be ye ready for no man knows the day nor the hour. Get right with God. Stay up!
