CL’S BIG SONGS IN ‘07!
Friday, December 28, 2007
2007 was chalked full of great music, and even though we couldn’t list them all, here some songs that made a large impact in ‘07. They’re not listed in any specific order, we just wanted to end the year off with a pretty good collection of chart toppers and songs that you couldn’t turn your radio on without hearing!
SOULJA BOY / CRANK DAT

♫ SOULJA BOY - CRANK DAT // I didn’t think this would take off and be as huge of a phenomenon as it is, but Soulja Boy is definitely on his grind this year. I tried hard not to get caught up in the hype of the dance, but when this song comes on, it is something about it. The lyrics to the song - questionable. And if “Superman that ho” means what they say it does, it’s a shame that this 17-year-old boy would utter these words. I will say one thing though, the song makes everyone move. Put this on in a crowded setting, everyone will be “crankin’ dat.”
RIHANNA FEAT. JAY-Z / UMBRELLA

♫ RIHANNA FEAT. JAY-Z - UMBRELLA // Probably one of the hugest crossover singles of the year. Little Miss Sunshine, also known as Rihanna come back on the scene with a bang. “Umbrella” was #1 worldwide, transcending language and color barriers. And although they’ve been in the industry for quite some time, it shed new light on the producer/songwriters, The Dream and Tricky Stewart, opening up a plethora of avenues for many slots on many huge albums this year.
J. HOLIDAY / BED

♫ J. HOLIDAY - BED // “Bed” most certainly put J. Holiday on the map. There was some slight controversy about this song (The Dream didn’t think that Chris Brown could pull the song off), you couldn’t turn on the radio at any time during the day without hearing J. Holiday croon over this wonderful production. “Bed” was huge for J. Holiday, it was amazing way to jump off his career and put this album Back of My ‘Lac in the running for most anticipated albums of the year.
T-PAIN FEAT. YUNG JOC / BUY U A DRANK

♫ T-PAIN FEAT. YUNG JOC - BUY U A DRANK // I tried hard not to like T-Pain, but this song just felt so good when I heard it. There are actual melodies and harmonies in the song that just go hard and make me really enjoy the song. Even though I think it was a horrible message to give out to people - as if buying a drink is really an appropriate way to make the assumption that someone is going home with you - you just couldn’t help but groove to this song. Definitely a hit.
SEAN KINGSTON / BEAUTIFUL GIRLS

♫ SEAN KINGSTON - BEAUTIFUL GIRLS // I couldn’t get with the lyrics, but the song is definitely intoxicating. I think I just had a problem with my little 11 year-old cousin walking around talking about somebody having him “suicidal.” There were many radio edits of the song, but I believe it’s pretty harmless, it was just a little off-putting, at first. This song was huge this year, garnering plenty of chart and radio success. But what’s up with his other singles? Have they been doing well?
TIMBALAND FEAT. KERI HILSON / THE WAY I ARE

♫ TIMBALAND FEAT. KERI HILSON - THE WAY I ARE // ‘07 was the year of the crossover. Timbaland has really been on his Euro-pop funk thing, and it seems as though the pop and dance charts are loving Timbaland these days. Not only was he huge in the United States, he was also huge overseas. “The Way I Are” was a huge club hit. It was everywhere: from clubs, cars, to McDonald’s commercials. 2007 was really a great year for Timbaland, despite mixed reviews of Shock Value.
BEYONCE / IRREPLACEABLE

♫ BEYONCE - IRREPLACEABLE // Many call this the song of Beyonce’s career. I don’t know of anyone that doesn’t know the words to this song when that first acoustic chord drops. Everyone starts shouting “To the left, to the left…” In the club, in the car - there was a time when “Irreplaceable” was everywhere. Even though Beyonce’s B’Day dropped in 2006, it still carried on heavy into ‘07, with her world tour, video anthology, and still heavy radio spins. Written by Ne-Yo, “Irreplaceable” has been award a spot as one of the most played songs on radio airwaves.

Every radio station played the heck out of Robin Thicke’s “Lost Without You” and I’m surprised Bobby Valentino’s “Anonymous”, Ciara’s “Like A Boy” or Omarion’s “Ice Box” wasn’t on the list. At least honorable mentions. jeesh

This is a good list and a few more should be up there. Hate if you must, but all these songs were hot. Little kids to old people were singing all these songs. I didn’t like all them, but hummed most of them (these songs got stuck in your head). Chris Breezy should have got a honorable mention for Kiss Kiss. Akon for “Don’t Matter” and “I wanna luv u” w/Snoop. Like I said a lot more songs were poppin off this year just hard to remember since this was the year of the “One Hit Wonders”

“Some of these songs got on my last nerve such as The way I are with annoying ass timberland and whoever that is,Beautiful Girls because Kingston cannot sing to me,Crank that Soulja Boy cause he needs to superman his little ass down somewhere. All versions of Irreplaceble started to wear on my nerves stick to one version damn it.Umbrella was okay at first but fizzled in the end cause Ri just cannot sing for shit. The rest of the songs that were mentioned were all hot in my book.”
Till this day, I cant get into Crank That Soulja Boy
Also surprised that Party like a Rock Star was mentioned so much later in the post, though I know it is in no particular order. IMHO, it should have mentioned way before “The Way I Are,” which I dont think was such a huge hit. It seemed like it belongs more on the “Honorable Mention” list.

If these are what is considered the best then we are in trouble. Some of these were cool, but there are some terrible songs on this list. R&B and Hip Hop is wack. No Ledisi joints on here?

LOL @ BLK DDS
I mostly agree with the list as well, though I also think ‘International Players Anthem’ and ‘No One’ should have made it on the list.
As far as ‘not getting into the lyrics’, people need to understand that sometimes a party song is just a party song…its not meant to be that deep. I doubt T-Pain was tryin to make a message with the song, its just meant to make ur head bop.
I just learned today what Superman that Hoe means….that is nasty…what SouljaBoy know bout that??
93.
Why you gotta be anonymous??
Saturday, December 29, 2007 /
Wrong wrong wrong # 8. Superman that Hoe means: When you’re doing a girl doggy style, pull out, and cum on her back/ass. When she tells you to wipe it off, you pretend to, and when she wakes up, she has the bed sheets stuck to her back like supermans cape…yeah I know disgusting!!!
94.
Why you gotta be anonymous??
