DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: Cubannie Links

You ever wonder where stars like Rihanna and Alicia Keys get their cute accessories from? Well look no further we found the source of all those dope earrings, necklaces, and bracelets you’ve been seeing black stars wearing this year.

Cubannie Links is the brainchild of jewelry designer Annie Basulto. This Miami native has been making major moves this year with her handmade accessories.

‘CL’ as she likes to call it, started earlier this year and has already caught the eye of fashionistas like Rihanna (who can be spotted rocking her pieces at numerous events), Alicia Keys, and Kat Deluna.

SOME OF THE PIECES THAT THE STARS LOVE

ANNIE ON HER INSPIRATIONS & GOALS

NAME DROP: Cubannie Links was officially born in March 2007 but was cooking in my oven since Summer 2006. The name is a blend of “Cuba” my heritage, and “Annie”, my name, creating my fabulous alter ego!

INSPIRATION: My inspiration is my Mom and my family. I have a really supportive family that has always been there, no matter how stupid my choices have been! I am inspired by the strong woman I see in my mom and a lot of female entrepreneurs in the world.

GOALS: I see Cubannie Links expanding nationwide, maybe a few Cubannie Links Stores. Not sure, absorbing and learning all that is happening now. As far as I know the future has so many roads and possiblities to take me! I’m ready for that ride!

  2. whatif34

Cute shit. I like how the page was put together too. Her prices aren’t that bad either.

  3. natural mystique

Cute stuff, though I’ll stick to the web version of CL. :-)

  4. I guess it will catch on. You just have to wait and see.

  5. DAPHNEYVETTE

RI RI and AK always have on cute accessories…..good to know, but can we regulars afford that shit?

  6. johnosahon

tupac rosary , DAMN. Dohanue has finally found a new enemy. LOLOLOLOL

  7. DAPHNEYVETTE

I just looked at that shit and ain’t nobody wearing no damn bullets in their ears….sorry, I don’t care who is wearing that shit…Im jus’ sayin’

  8. Ewill

    those are cute. hi ddssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  9. Cute stuff..with the exception of that Tupac rosary..now thats just wrong…
The prices ain’t TOO bad either….

  10. vexxed

Some items are cute/ tupac Rosary borderline blasphemy and not the message i wsh to convey in my style so they can keep that one. Rope chains and the whole Back to the 80s is trendy but passe to me. Give me classics i can rock in and out of season no matter what everybody else is doing. Fly is trendsetting/not following.

  11. hood_shit

I’m not impressed HOWEVER it is affordable!

  12. Ewilllllllllllll hey…..I miss yall.

  13. Phillyfashionista

I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I love to see strong women doing their thing but umm…I don’t see anything special about this jewelry. I could find 100% better looking accessories for 50% of the price of these. Again, I’m sorry, just my opinion. I was more interested in Rihanna’s shirt.

  14. CHOCOLATEKISSES

    I agree with 14.

  15. I also agree with #14, My attention immediately went to Rhianna’s shirt. It looks like that cheap jewelry that you can buy from Maxie or a chinese store.

  16. Denise

MORE POWER TO THIS WOMAN DOING HER THING, BUT THIS JEWELRY IS NOT OF MY TASTE, IT LOOK LIKE IT WOULD TURN GREEN ON ME.. ONE OF THOSE EARRINGS LOOK LIKE A BICYCLE TIRE AIR PUMP. I HAVE TO HAND IT TO HER SHE IS CREATIVE.

  17. Oh I like the accessories…they are very creative.

  18. Koolkidkulture

    305. do the damn thing.

  19. Dame

I thought it was the shirt also because Alicia and Rihanna shirt are the same color. The jewerly is ok.

  20. RUBYGIRL

The jewelry is whack, but I love Rihanna’s shirt, she looks adorable and I hate the way Alicia looks in that photo (she looks ugly and washed out). I won’t be buying the jewelry.

  21. CapCityChick

Cute..I need to check out the Website!!

  22. vexxed

Rhianna could put actual dookey on a rope and some nut in here would defend it….STANS.

This is not to diss, but admiring someone should not mean worshiping them as if they were some sort of diety. I mean, her armpits still stink in the morning and her breath still gets funky after onions just like the rest of us. She’s cute but she is not the end all be all of fashion nor skill. She’s just a person. DAG!!!!
I know people do that to other stars (Beyonce/Ciara/etc….) but give it a rest already. She’s gonna get a hunchback from y’all riding her so hard. LOL Yeah, I took it back to RIDING.

  23. I like some of this jewelry, but the jury is still out on the shoot em’ up bang, bang pieces, lol! I’m not keen on the idea of flossing caps, bullets, and guns in my ears or around my neck. I know it’s just fashion but still…

  24. CapCityChick

Okay so now that I have cheked out the website..the only thing that I like is the Double hoop earrings…..She going str8 to hell for putting guns on rosary beads!!!!!

  25. Just Jenn

BIG UPs to anyone doing there thing out there now. Her line seems nice and the stars are obviously lovin it.

  26. Gem

those bracelets are replicas of the Cc Skye bracelets that were so popular over the last couple of years… I almost believe Rihanna is wearing the smaller Cc Skye bracelet, myself. lol And, the gun necklace…the rosary…it’s all been done soo much. I don’t think it’s enough to just rehash striking pieces. The braided thing has been THE STYLE of late, but I’m more interested in the necklace she’s wearing in the pic than the rosary or bracelets. Alicia looks nice in the earrings, though… Her stuff seems to compliment you…I would buy the gold earrings maybe…

  27. gingerbread21

wack!! sorry and sad but true…

  28. FOXXX

WTF….yeah…the designs are creative alright, a creative vision of ghettoness. I’m surprised Kiesha doesn’t rock this..she’ll catch on she loves to jack other people’s styles.

The little guns Ms. Lady are you serious?

  29. The Flyest Ever

Yo, these are so cute! I love unique accessories! Keep doing your thing girl!

    p.s. Cubannie is a cute name ;o)

  30. Kesh

These accessories are really cute! Especially the Metallic Bracelets.

  31. Go ahead girl do your thing, you are about to blow up :-)

  32. This isht looks street vendorISH…….Just my 2 cent$

  33. cee

im not impressedl yes it is affordable but its trash, they have cuter things at forever21 that can turn ur skin just as green

  34. CP

As a jewelry designer myself, I know when to give kudos on a job well done (and thats a very hard thing to do for some designers). For this occasion, I can’t. It’s creative, I’ll give the designer that but it’s not enough to convince anyone to wear them as a personal style choice and not because it’s “hot” and “trendy” since the stars are catching on. The only reasons I could think of why people would her jewelry is because of the prices and because they want to be the only ones wearing something unique. Also, “unique” is NOT rare in the jewelry world so don’t get excited too quickly. Hey, this is just an opinion of a regular reader of the blog but to each its own.

  35. Ms. Notoriously Addictive

My girl Annie! Keep on doing your thing + read her interview on http://www.notoriouslyaddictive.com

  36. NeshaNesha

Congrats to her for starting her accessory collection. I always like to see people make their business ventures become a reality.

I’m only being honest and not mean. I checked out the website, and I really was not all that impressed, it was ehhh to me.
It wasn’t bad and it wasn’t great…but I will say it lacked creativity.
I also make jewelery, and I work hard as hell to make my jewelery stand out. I make sure that every piece is unique, and that every piece has my own personal signature style.
Her style is copied from things I have seen time and time again.
Some may say that I’m light weight hating, but I’m just looking at her jewelery from my jewelery designing eye thats all.

  37. NeshaNesha

    100% AGREE WITH #36!

  38. ohh this stuff is so cute! i wan’t some pieces

  39. CP

@ NeshaNesha, I do the same thing as well. I try to make pieces that defines my style. I mean sure, the idea of what we make isn’t new but it is our own individual twist, along with what materials we use, that make our pieces unique. And I have to agree with you, the jewelry does lack creativity and her designs have been done to death. I feel if you are going to use an idea, at least give your spin to it not a copied one. Make it stand out on it’s own and have people wanting to buy it because it fits their personal style and not because they wanna be the only ones seen wearing it. That, I have to say, is the biggest insult to jewelry designer who didn’t make these pieces for that reason. And I have to admit, it’s hard being creative with jewelry at first but it becomes easier when you have mastered it.

  40. JSCENE

WTF!!!! SOME OF THIS SHIT LOOKS DEMONIC…I’LL PASS…

  41. Tizzy-T WhistleQueen

    Hmmm…not impressed.

  42. Missez

its aight!! um maybe i need to see some other things

  43. ON DEMAND

    tupac rosary? wtf?

  44. gg boo

that picture of a keys looks strange to me for some reason…anyway, these pieces are kinda weak to me. I am sure it takes a lot to make them but they look like home ec/pottery class type stuff. I dunno…I can appreciate the woman getting her hustle on though.

  45. Rachel

Did someone actually give this chick permission to use Tupac’s name …cause she is CrAzY to replace the Cross on a Rosary with of all things a gun…I open the site to purchase some stuff and then i seen the ” Rosary ” and there is NO WAY i am supporting that…

  46. Diamonddiamond

    I’m tired of seeing Rihanna!

  47. Tmommie3

Kudos to Concrete Loop for helping new business owners get there products noticed.

  48. gg boo

You don’t have to moderate my message, Angel. I see you took off the offensive post I was responding to.

    R. Kells is in the clink!

  49. Lola Falana

I design jewelry as a hobby and I find nothing special about these pieces. No hate at all, just the truth. When I see good ish I have no problem giving props. Heck, I have seen better jewelry in the Beauty Supply store of $1.00.

Like someone said I prefer classic looks to these silly trends.

  50. Too-Life

It’s cool, I’ll get that for my girl…if i had one of course. lol

  51. Niecy

How dare the equate Tupac only with a gun? And to think we would support this mess she calls jewelry. This is not even original looking stuff anyway. Maybe the Pitbull -loving crowd will buy it.

  52. Okay. I am a huge Pac fan but a Tupac rosary? And then she had the nerve to put a gun on it? WTH is wrrong with this chick? There’s nothing special about her jewelry anyway. It’s not even close to being cute.

On a brighter note, I love that shirt Rih is rocking. I wish I can wear shirts like that.

  53. Lady Architect

    cute stuff!

  54. One Tree Hill

I luv the accessories they’re so cute and creative!

  55. anole

I’m just curious how much did they pay you for the advertisement and whether this should be clearly labeled as what it is: “Advertisement”

  56. @ 58. She didn’t pay for this feature. We feature singers/designers/etc that we like and admire for their hustle and talent. The only ad spots on CL are at the top, bottom, and side. It was titled a spotlight right? And that’s exactly what it is. So don’t get it twisted! You need to quit trying to be smart, because you end up looking real dumb.

    Do your thing Annie.

  57. YOU TOLD HARPO TO BEAT ME????

Just checked out the website and I think the jewlery is WACK. I wish her much success but I won’t b purchasing any.
