Guys are stepping up their accessories game and rocking scarves hard this season. This trend is pretty evident if you look at all males in entertainment – Kanye of course (who started the trend on the black carpet), Omarion, Lupe Fiasco, and Jay-Z are some of the guys who like to add a scarf to their look.
I noticed some time ago when David Beckham showed his scarf swag, letting folks know that this trend isn’t all for the ladies. I think the look is a go and shows that guys can be a little versatile with their wardrobe.
Here are a few I found online, mostly at ASOS and Urban Outfitters. They have some of the basic patterns and skull scarves you may see a lot of. If you’re the alpha male that wants to step it up with some designer scarves, visit fruition for some vintage, yet hot Gucci, Chanel, and YSL wrappers.

Let me say this and I’m done (because I really don’t care…this topic was just near the top) I AM NOT a small-minded person…I SUBSCRIBE TO NONE OF THOSE ‘THUG/HOOD’ NOTIONS OF HOW A BLACK MAN SHOULD LOOK/DRESS. And, I should have been careful in my initial post…it was just that I was flippantly posting because it was a new topic.
ANYWAY, while I don’t buy into absurd generalizations, I also WOULD NEVER date anyone UNLESS her were an individual and that means even in dress… I WOULD NEVER date a guy wearing an entire outfit he saw on TV: in a video, in a movie, or otherwise… NO (thank goodness the guys I date would never EVER indulge even the notion of some uniform of extraordinariness or something, though…).
But, again…YES it was interesting, Kanye’s interpretation BUT NO IT IS NOT interesting (and NO IT IS NOT ATTRACTIVE) everyone’s basically wearing Kanye’s thought (just as it was NOT hot when everyone wore the button down with sneakers, Jay Z’s stylist’s thought).
Ultimately, though, my initial point was NOT that a scarf is gay BUT ONLY that wearing another person’s brain is lame!
Like somebody said earlier folks were wearing scarves before Kanye…So if I get my scarf swag on I’m being like Kanye…

It’s not the scarf, but the entire look…as I said we’ve seen it in rap videos for years…Andre 3000 and Common have been wearing scarves in videos for years…neither of their styles is reminiscent of Kanye’s. Because the man’s done a very peculiar thing, combining things that many believe diametrically opposed…Even Pharrel hasn’t combined them in the same way… Kanye’s look is at once bohemian, street, and high-fashion. The most Pharrel ever did was combine high-fashion and street…never bohemian. Will.I.Am didn’t even combine all three elements.
The point is, ultimately, NO TWO people will choose alike in a sea of possibilities.
As for me, I’m more inner-directed in dress..sure, I have things that other people I know own because, as I said, designers dictate what will be sold in stores and shops from Neiman Marcus to KMart and I am not rich, I don’t buy couture (I design accessories, though). BUT it is my own interpretation of these things that makes my style my own. I’m into timeless pieces too…solids, muted colors, cotton tops and dresses, tube skirts, and of course vintage items… But, ultimately, I believe we all know the otherness of our ideas…we’re all responsible for our own individuation…and we know when we’re being celluloid.

I said Kanye was the first to wear this look: street, boho, high-end…that’s what I said. Pharell’s look was high-end and street (or irreverent and sporty) not hipster. Kanye was the first to blend the two looks with the vintage inspired outerwear…the hipster jackets and cardigans…and, of course, the sunglasses.

When I first saw the scarf swag I thought “hmm.. that’s different”, then it caught on like wildfire. Everyone’s wearing them now. I personally don’t see this look as being gay or homo (double pause and double no homo, I know.. I listen to too much dipset but still…). It’s just fashion and fashion is constantly evolving. I bought one a month ago and have yet to wear it, it’s basic and solid in color and I like it for me.
