KANYE WEST / STRONGER
Of course, ’07 was a good year for music videos. From expensive videos, to completely video albums, people definitely set the bar higher this year. Even though sometimes he can throw some tantrums, he does conceptualize and put together amazing video compositions. Kanye West’s latest album, Graduation finds him at his peak, and even though ’07 has brought some very high highs and some super lows for Kanye, there’s no denying that “Stronger” was one of this year’s greatest music video compositions.
BEYONCE / GET ME BODIED
Beyonce definitely raised the standard this year by putting out a video anthology of her sophomore solo album, B’Day. She delivered videos for almost every song on the album and each video was a great representation of what the song was. But a favorite among fans was the dance anthem, “Get Me Bodied.” Beyonce was inspired by “The Rich Man’s Frug” from the musical “Sweet Charity.” She took the idea, modernized it and made it her own. It’s completely a club favorite.
RIHANNA / UMBRELLA
Rihanna made a huge splash onto the scene in ’07 with her smash “Umbrella.” At just 18, she released a pretty risque video (remember the silver nude scene?). Either way, Rihanna definitely was a good girl gone bad in the video. She premiered her brand new black bob and let people know that she was not playing this time around. Not only did the song crossover, but the video seemed to be a favorite on MTV, VH1 and BET. Rihanna certainly made moves this year.
COMMON / I WANT YOU
This was one of my favorite videos to be released this year. It was epic, very dramatic, and featured a host of beautiful brown people. Common, Alicia Keys, Kerry Washington and Kanye West – it doesn’t get much more brown and beautiful. I love watching this video. I find something new to look at every time I watch it.
LIL MAMA / LIP GLOSS
Love it or hate it, Lil’ Mama’s “Lip Gloss” made an impact in ’07. From the song, to the energetic video, Lil’ Mama came onto the scene to make noise, and she did just that. The video was super cute – it’s been a long time since I’ve seen choreographed rappers – not since Missy Elliott. I definitely respect this girl’s swagger. Look out for her album, Voice of the Young People to drop next year.
Kanye took the cake in every category this year. Loved that album and his style!
I agree with the choices but what happened to Timbaland feat. Sebastian and Keri Hilson’s “The Way I Are”? that was hug record and huge video..lol
I liked Kanye’s can’t tell me nothing vid the best, but I guess i’m a minimalist…

I love International Players Anthem….damn, ugk did their thing, cant believe one is gone. And of course outkast never disappoints. This was no doubt one of the hottest songs of the year.
i liked all of the videos listed, but my favorite was Beyonce’s `get me bodied`….
Oh and it goes without saying that i think kanye is one of the most creative artists of our generation….no doubt.
Rihanna is the number one of my book, a clever video.

Ye Stronger was hot and I love him too. UGK and Outkast is still my jam and that video is so funny. Bee Get Me Bodied I would have love to see a different video bv that is my ish.

I agree with the choices……Kanye’s Good Life was the best. The boy is banannas!!!!!!! Like a Boy and Umbrella had me up and dancing. Cant Help but Wait had me jammin. Roc Boys had me rapping along and Lip Gloss is just plain old fun. There is really nothing to diagree about here.
Oh and “Get Me Bodied” was the business as well…..lol.
I think Ayo Technology was a HOTT video. That had a futuristic appeal to it.
Oh, also Mary’s Just Fine video was HOTT.

I heard from some people that live in the A-town that they might be releasing some material next year also on some hip-hop sites as well..and they got a song called “The Art of Story Tellin’ Pt 4″ that was featured on the DJ Drama “Gangsta Grills” album..the song is crazy it’s featured Marsha (the ex member of Floetry)..I can’t wait because this song already has me warmed up!..lol..
I don’t think that Concreteloop are dick-riding him..Kanye did have the best year with his album..and his videos were all good…it’s crazy because people always complain about hip-hop not being postive but if you listen to “Graduation” he had some uplifting songs on there..it was good..not better than “College Dropout” but def hot..Chi-Town stand up!..but to sum it all up..I’m not a fan of every artist that Brian posted but I can’t deny and say they didn’t have a good year..everyone did very well even if you hated them or love them

I feel like all of these artists did their thangs this year. I can’t believe it’s over. I am a Trey Songz fan now and I am impressed w/ what he has put out this year. I think that Promise should have made the list tho, even before Like a Boy cuz it was a hot video.

Agree with what you said about Beyonce – she took the Frug and modernized it and it was FIYAH!!! Best video – no doubt.
ROC Boys/UGK – tie for me. they’re both representing style and fun in two different ways and both keep you glued to the screen.
Rihanna video was a copy of Irreplaceable and Get Me Bodied (the silver, etc.). This was a typical stage video and wasn’t exciting to watch. I’ve watched it once and barely made it through because it was horrible – dancing, etc. I was soooooo glad Jay didn’t give it a hot verse how he did on Deja Vue (those verses need to go in the Hip Hop Hall of Fame.)
Kanye’s videos are whack and overrated as is he. Graduation is a revamped, dumbed down Kingdom Come and until he USES HIS OWN RAP LYRICS, he can’t get any respect from me.
I did like Ciara’s Like A Boy too – innovative and creative.
Deja Vue should’ve been on this list – it was different, free, cineamatic and unique. The dance scense OMG!!!!! NEED TO BE PUT UP IN LIGHTS.
Upgrade U could’ve made this too – the scenes with her dancing with the guys – choreography – fire!! and of course, the scene with her and Jay – NO ONE TOPPED THAT.
