Its going to be full out black star power in Hollywood this month with so many black films coming out. The premiere for The Great Debaters starring Denzel Washington and produced by Oprah Winfrey, took place last night. Many celebrities attended to see this anticipated movie, due out on Christmas.

Anyway Back to the topic. I saw the movie & Nate Parker is really good in it. I hope it does well.
I’m sixteen and was so excited to be able to see a preview of the movie in Miami with my speech class. It’s probably one of the best movies I’ve ever seen and the actors gave Oscar worthy performances; it’s a definite best of ’07. At the preview we even got to me the debaters : Jurnee, Nate, and Denzel (the younger one). Everyone go out and see it. It’s more than worth it.
Everyone looked good. I love Holly Robinson Peete so i’m glad to see her especially.
I can’t wait to see this movie. I’ll be there on christmas day!!!!

Denzel always has a “whatever kid” look on his face at premieres.
This really isn’t off topic…well, maybe…but I remember someone talking about a rumor about Jay Z thinking Denzel stole the American Gangster project from him. Well, I just wondered if anything else had come of it…I saw an interview with Jay Z and he talked about doing a short film for “Pray” and he talked about the story behind it and it was basically “American Gangster” (but perhaps it’s a typical enough thing, selling drugs) and I found it odd that when the man asked him who he admired, he didn’t name Denzel. I’ve seen a few other Jay Z interviews and everytime he was asked, in recent years, who he admired he named Denzel straight away.
I’m so happy to see black people coming together in a positive way…everyone looks great and I can’t wait to see this movie…everyone needs to go and support.

Nate Parker is a handsome brother and a good actor… seems to be very versatile.
His role in Pride and Dirty – very different, but very believable.

Let me start by saying that i’m disgusted by some of the comments that are being made about Jennifer Hudson, I know this is off topic but my heart has something to say:
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Jennifer Hudson three times in NYC. I must say she’s one of the most sweet, humble-spirited, god-fearing people that i’ve ever met (she’s such a sweetheart). It’s to the point that she does not even know how big she is, and that’s whats going to take her far. It’s amazing to me how some of you people can say such negative things about someone that you’ve never met. The thing is, Jennifer’s career is being driven by God, and her natural raw talent. God truely takes care of his own. Jennifer keep praying, keep striving for greatness, keep being you, because God knows you’re such an awesome person. I’m glad i got that off my chest.
I’ve already had the oppurtunity to see this wonderful movie, and it is an absolute must see. Everyone looks GREAT!

I have sisters and I know first hand women do that shit. Angell has worked in television and film and yall still want to say she’s a video girl. Just hating for no reason. Since some have brought up the subject, I just wish J-Hud would sing the way she did on American Idol. She sounded her best then and there was less screaming. But we all know that screaming is a cultural thing that takes some coaching to tone it down. Just sing a melody or a verse of a song in one smooth note, not screaming acrobatics, please.
Forrest Whitakers wife just needs to stick to long pants and flowing dresses b/c some people just cant gain weight in their legs, it goes to the face and hips and the legs stay skinny. She could try to work out to give them some more shape.
Love Oprah’s style. She and Gayle are best friends/sisters mostly. Why do we have to dirty up everything. Why do single people get the suspicious eye. Marriage isn’t for everyone and you can be single and have best friends and not be gay. The bible puts being single in a positive light. So to put it in a negative light is being a devils advocate. There are more down low people in relationships and marriages than we would like to admit.

#89…I think Oprah’s approach for the movie is just fine…I mean what type of approach should she take?…make a video with video girls?….this is an educational movie and I think parents should make their children go see and go with them…children need some positive things in life and if parents can get off their behind to take their children to see cartoon movies, transformers, etc…then they can take their children to also see an educational movie that would probably in the end inspire their child…That whole soulja boy comment was just dumb…u complain about the approach of this movie but don’t complain about his approach on splattin on a girl who he calls a hoe…I guess he covers it up so well with that silly dance to fool you as a parent to say its ok for them to listen and sing it.

#148 I did not say that the Soulja boy video or song was good or ok. what I said was that this movie is not going to appeal to the auidence who needs to watch it. the same kids who like Soulja Boy (not all but most) are not going to think twice about going to see this movie unless they are made to go. and how many parents are going to make their child go see this movie… puhleeze. if you would have read the statement carefully what I said is that she needs a different approach to get the same message out. when you were 16 or 17 were you trying to watch a movie that was set in the 30′s or 40′s. I am 34 and I remember when we were in history class watching documentaries and movies on the Civil Rights movement, half the people were talking and the other half was asleep. in order to appeal to the target audience you have to get their attention….marketing 101
#149 the reason I said that the Tyler Perry movies were a breath of fresh air is because they show a large spectrum of black people from the hood type to the successful type. the movies still manage to get a point across about domestic violence, sexual abuse and marital problems by not being to preachy. that is what I meant. sure there are some stereotypes, but is not overun with them…

TO #73- Oprah just had a movie on ABC, For One More Day (or whatever) it was about white people. No struggling black people or pre civil rights. The Wedding with Halle Berry really was not pre civil rights either. If you remember, it was about an elite black society (They were vacationing @ Marthas Vinyard).
*In other news………….. Denzel and his wife really dont look like they belong together anymore. They just look odd to me. Not saying I want them to get a divorce, but something just seems wrong. Can’t quite put my finger on it though………..

I think it’s so ironic that the little boy who plays Forest Whitaker son’s real name is Denzel Whitaker, he was clearly meant for this role..
