MUSIC FROM THRILLER’S 25th ANNIVERSARY!
Thursday, December 20, 2007

Michael Jackson is set to release a special edition packet of his classic album, Thriller. It is the 25th of the album, and Epic/Legacy Recordings is proudly putting out the set with remixes from Kanye West, Will.I.Am & Fergie of Black Eyed Peas, and Akon, in stores February 12th. Streaming above, is the remix to “Billie Jean” that Kanye West twerked out.
The 25th anniversary celebration kicks off in December 2007 with the release of a new single and continues throughout 2008 with a multi-faceted global marketing campaign featuring high-profile television, radio and online events around the world. It will include the original album in its entirety as well as eight bonus tracks and a DVD featuring Michael Jackson’s groundbreaking short films from Thriller (”Thriller,” “Beat It,” and “Billie Jean”) and the artist’s Emmy-nominated breakout performance of “Billie Jean” from the legendary “Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever” television special (first broadcast on NBC on May 16, 1983).
In February 1984, Michael Jackson held a record-breaking 12 Grammy nominations, going on to win eight, which stands as the record for most Grammy Awards to be won by anyone in a single year. Awards grabbed for Thriller that year included Album of the Year, Record of the Year (”Beat It”), Best Male Pop Vocal Performance (”Thriller”), Best Engineered Recording, Non-Classical (Thriller), Best Male Rock Vocal Performance (”Beat It”), Best Male R&B Vocal Performance (”Billie Jean”) and Best R&B Song (”Billie Jean”). He also won big at the American Music and MTV Video Music Awards.
There have been talks of a Michael Jackson comeback project, rumoredly working with Will.I.Am and hitmaker Ne-Yo, but no solid information on the project’s release date. Also, his brothers have confirmed that Michael will be working with them on the Jackson 5 reunion tour. Big ups to Michael, he definitely did his thing on Thriller! Solidified classic.
Make sure you pick up your copy of the 25th anniversary of Thiller on the 12th of February.

This album is going to be so hot! Thanks CL, I’ve been waiting to hear some tracks from it. I heard another leaked song on http://www.FRESHOPOLY.com . It was Michael Jackson ft . Will.I.Am - The Girl Is Mine (2008 Remix) and it was off the chain as well!

Thriller is still one of the best albums ever! I remember watching the Motown 25 special in 1983 and I was barely 8 years old. That’s how much of a real performer MJ was. I don’t care how much they compare these young artists to MJ, none of these young dudes have that same charisma and fire MJ did.

you know im excited bout the album and all.. like i really am.. but these remixes didnt really do anything for me… like.. i was expecting something like.. a new level of sound… and its the same thing.. just with a little extra synth and voice.. not much of a change.. but i do give props tho.. cause i would be terrified to touch such a classic album and try to make a remix.. that is scary so i commend all of them.. for going for it.. but michael has always been an artist who believed in taking chances… so go ahead and take chances with the remixes as well.. give us something we havent heard before.. some thing just wicked.. you know.. im not hating tho. just my opinion.. i love kanye, akon, will.i.am and fergie… i dont know.. when i saw kanye’s name on it.. i was geeked cause he’s soo out there with it.. and it just didnt do anything… but again.. IM STILL GONNA BUY IT…. LOL LOL.. LOVE MICHEAL AND ALL OF THE ARTIST THAT CONTRIBUTE!!!

I think this is a good way to “introduce” a real artist to the younger generation…..these kids are so lost when it comes to music…they think Soldier Boy is the ish…I use to be embarrassed to say how old I am (31 in January, God willing) but I am glad I grew up during the time I did because I got exposed to such good music…Michael Jackson, Prince, Anita Baker, Phyllis Hyman, Patti, Aretha etc… I mean I could go on and on but yall know what I am talking about. I thought I would never say this but I hate listening to the radio now….So what I am really trying to say is I think that this is a great idea and I will buy the album.
And I am felling ya’ll about Thriller…I remember being pressed to watch the video all day and when it finally came on I hid behind our sofa because I was scared as ish!!!!

I remember the Motown 25th Anniversary, Mike went on like almost last. I remember my parents let me & my cousin stay up to watch it and we was going CRAZY when he did the moonwalk!

I love this man!! Yes, he is a complete weirdo an all, but no one can deny his talent!! When I was younger, I remember how much of an influence that he had over music, and still does. I use to buy all his posters and stickers, and my walls and doors were covered with him! I can truly understand why those white girls were fainting and crying over him! That is the kind of influence that his music had! Even now, when I hear a MJ song, I get this great feeling! He is hands down the best pop artist that has ever graced this earth!!! Regardless of all his flaws, we cant deny him of that!

I hope someone gets fired for this shit. Is it not enough that we have people doing horrible 2pac remixes. Fergie sounds rediculous on Beat It. Who chose her for this? And Yeezy oh Yeezy… It’s not his fault there is nothing you can do to Billie Jean. It is a perfect record. Ye played it safe and just tried not to fuck it up, but the “remix” is just MJ over new drums that arent even as driving as the old ones!

I think Kanye West could have done a better job than this, I hope this is not the version they release. I don’t think you dumb down greatness to introduce an old artist to a new generation.
That just shows you the greatness of sir Quincy Jones. Sorry people but the originals are way better. Shows you the difference between a Producer and a beat maker. Anybody can make beats, but anybody can’t produce.

I’m too scared to listen to Kanye’s remix, and lord knows I’m not fina touch Fergie and mess up ‘Beat It’. LOL Like someone said and mentioned Quincy, you cannot improve these tracks. Tracks like ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘Beat It’ are perfect. You just can’t do anything, they cannot be improved, and they can’t even be remixed.
My favorite MJ albums are Off The Wall, Thriller and Dangerous too.
Ms. TANNA, no you did not say you stan for those two Michael’s noses LOL.

Is it just me or does anyone else think Kanye’s messed up this classic! WTF! Keep your voice off of it I personally think Pharrel would have done a better job. MJ needs to stop going for producers that are the most popular and go the ones who can work with his voice and style. Kanye is a popular producer but he is not that versatile.

MJ is a legend and the Thriller album is a CLASSIC…
But i think a legend should only work with people who are either already legends or legends in the making. I can get with Kayne, Will.I.Am is on the fence, but come on… MJ working with Akon and Fergie??? That’s downright disrespectful. And Fergie sounds TERRIBLE on this track.

I was an MJ FANATIC (like my daddy almost whooped my ass I was so obsessed about him….but that snapped me out of it…LMAO), but anyway, back to the remixes…BOOOO! Don’t like the BJ remix. The beat is lame. The remix didn’t add *anything* to the song.
MJ is still a musical genius, and nobody can beat him, but they gotta come better than this.
