Bad music is bad music..and I don’t care how a much a label promotes it…when a label even attempts to promote to push a bad record i.e. force the artist to sing the wack song on 106 and Park–just an example- only the musically ‘declined’ will respond and like the music–the teenagers–and then the teenagers are going to go home and illegally download the wack music instead buying it because they don’t want to spend the little money that they have..so it’s back to square 1. Then no one makes money.

I am a big Amerie fan because I think she has a nice voice, she’s college educated, and seems down to earth. The problem with her was that she was starting to push her new singles when people were still enjoying ‘Touch’..which was a hit, so it was overkill. People were still buying ‘Touch’ in late 2006. ‘1 thing’ was still getting radio play in early 2007–TWO YEARS AFTER IT WAS RELEASED. “Gotta Work” was not a strong single like ‘1 thing’. So a lot of US radio stations who were still bumping 1 Thing were highly dissapointed in Gotta Work.

Congrats to Erykah,i might actually buy this cd. Her first will always be a classic to me. Amerie is my girl and I fell in love with her when I saw her perform in Brooklyn this past summer. I wish her well and I liked Because I Love it cd, it was different and BOOMBOX u are not the only one who loves the underrated Touch!! “Talkin About” is still my shit to this day!!!!

Just because someone doesn’t sell records doesn’t mean that they are bad. Teedra Moses’ record label didn’t want her to release her first album in the beginning but they did later on. And record sales don’t equate to quality. Example: Fergie’s album has sold 3,000,000+ in the U.S. alone and that was a shitty album.

And just because an album gets pushed back doesn’t mean that its bad. Mario’s “Go” album has been pushed back so many times and its very good, Teedra Moses’ new album was supposed to come out in February but its been pushed back till 2008. People need to stop being so one-minded.

The music biz as a whole is fickle an artist has to create a strong fan base. I download singles but If I love your music I will buy ur cd. I believe they work hard putting it together so why not buy it? It is hard to relevant these days when they pushing out an artist a week. Like Brandy said she remember when it was her, Monica and Aaliyah and an artist had a fair chance to shine. Not these days everybody is a star or trying to be.

I’m going to have top disagree with you..to say that song sucked is an subjective opinion. I for one didn’t like the single but many people did, She had average promotion for the record until it topped the charts then the label pushed it. It’s the consumer’s taste that helps the record become sucessful. Amerie’s singles didn’t cut it. “One THing” was hot in the clubs and on the charts so that’s why that song was sucessful. It’s not always the label they promote artist that the consumers are willing to take interestin Amerie isn’t one at this time unless she come out with some hot shit. To say Amerie vocal style isn’t distinctive I’m going to disagree her voice is very distinctive. I know Ameris’ voice when I hear it..lol

Sweetie, there are plenty of artists out there that can’t sing worth a damn and still sell records out the ass, i.e. Ciara, Janet (I’m one of her biggest fans, but she’s never been a great vocalist to me), Madonna and (for the love of God) Britney Spears. The list goes on and on. And then there are artists who can sing but can’t sell records. So obviously vocals alone (unfortunatley) isn’t the only thing that sells records, which makes your “analysis” sound ignorant. Amerie is isn’t completely off base; her record label isn’t shoving her music down our throats like they do other crappy music. And honestly, I don’t think Amerie has a bad voice. Amerie sounds like Jennifer Lopez? Really? Are you serious? So, if you listen to a track like…”Let’s Get Loud” or “I’m Glad” and compare it Amerie’s “Why Don’t We Fall in Love”, “1 Thing” or “That’s What You Are” you’d think those songs were done by the same person? Is that what you people are saying?

Amerie’s a great singer, she writes her songs, assists in production, and is control of her music and her image… She’s so far above talentless, that it’s not even funny.

Some of you guys need to seriously educate yourselves. I feel like everyone is trying to “fit in” instead of just being themselves. Very few people take risks, and when someone does (and this isn’t only in music…this happens in real life) we’re quick to shoot them down. The bottom line is, what Amerie said is true. Amerie is in the same pile as Mya, Kelly, Tamia, and so many others. Because Beyonce is on Columbia, unfortunately is is almost impossible for any other female on the label to get more than two singles pushed. If you think hard enough actually, Def Jam released Christina Milian last year, but kept pushing …………hummm……………oh yes-Ms.UM-BER-ELLA, ELLA, ELLA, EH, ok I’ll stop. They dropped her after “Say I,” and kept Rihanna’s “SOS “and “Unfaithful” going. I guess it might be becuase Beyonce and Rihanna crank up the sex appeal a bit more. It’s a tough Industry you know.
Some of you all brought up Alica’s “No One.” A lot of us, including me, didn’t like that song at first. But because Alica’s star power is so big, J Records kept throwing it at us, no matter how much we threw it back. So yes, because of that, many of us like it now, it has it’s two Grammy Nominations, so she is set. Mary J Blige’s “Just Fine” has a similarity as well, but I won’t dwell on that. So to me, the only way to really make it is to jump on a label that will be more than willing to promote you. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been with a company(i.e.-Kelly Rowland), if you wanna soar you gotta get on the right bandwagon. I would suggest a label like Geffen. because, they have artists like Mary, Fergie, Nelly Furtado, and Keyshia, (all who are 2008 Grammy nominees might I add), and they have been promoting them all very well. So, stay up Amerie.

Finally, Erykah can show these no-talent hoes some real music. No more “Umbrellas” and “Freakum Dresses”!

It’s all about promotion and what record label seems to be fair with promotions. Columbia reps know they can only promote Bey for so long before fans lose interest , Def Jam too- you can only promote a “product,” I mean artist for so long. I know I long for variety. Alicia, Mary and Keyshia get plenty of airplay which I appreciate. It’s interesting to note that the latter artists are all under the same label. Other artists who keep pushed aside because a label keeps favoring a certain artist over everyone else should wake up and go where they can get fair treatment.

As for Amerie, I like her style, one thing is a real genuine song, musically speaking. And her voice is ok, i think she needs some bass to balance her voice but i respect her much more than other artist. And she has mad sex appeal too!!
so basically, change the label will be a turning point for a career, i would say a better change!

Nobody sells records anymore, Alicia Keys is about the only one and look at the crazy promotion J-Records gave her, Jay-Z’s albums been out almost two months and he ain’t even gold yet… the artist that usually sell aren’t selling, so you can’t judge an artist’s talent by how many records he or she has or hasn’t sold idiot…

^^^ Hey Mike, news flash. I’m not hating! Amerie is the one bitching and complaining about not being “promoted” by her label, thus not being able to sell records. So, tell her to quit hating! If she’s so satisfied with being promoted overseas and selling records over there, what the hell is she or YOU complaining about? Quiche-A get out of my head. I even went back and listened to Amerie’s first album last night. Still sounds like shit. Background singers & beats were the best part. When she started singing it all went to hell. She thinks that adding that stressed “I’m screaming but I’m not” makes her sound good it doesn’t. That shit was painful. Now, Tamia is an artist who can SANG but doesn’t sell or get promoted like she should. Just google “Tamia on Steve Harvey”. You will see that Aw-Merie should go sit down.

She wasn’t complaining about anything, she simply responded to a question, stating that she and her label weren’t on the same page. NO one was complaining, actually she took the high road by not dogging the label out. Talent is a mere form of opinion you don’t like the way she sounds, I can’t fault you there, but you can’t deny her talent, Amerie has put out 2 albums both went gold, during a time period when no one is selling records, Tamia has put out 5 albums, 1 went gold, and she was out before the major decrease in record sales. Now I must agree with you I do like Tamia, Tamia is way over due, but there’s a grip of artist that don’t get theirs.

Tamia has put out 5 albums, THREE went Gold. The last one was a Christmas album that was just put out 2 months ago.

I Don’t Understand why Amerie ain’t getting no shine in the U.S , i been having her ‘because i love it’ for a while now ‘n it’s a damn good cd, how people can say she aint got no distinctive style??? ahahahahha that’s funny, if anybody got their own style these’ days its amerie, she got the sweetest voice…yea she can sing !!!

i like the whole 70’s sounds soul, brassbands ‘n horns influences she uses..her music doesnt sound dated. it’s pure R’nB but anyway. partly it’s all about promotion yea granted…but aint it also up to radio stations to play songs. in my opinion the problem is that sooooooooo many artists are being put out., there aint no time to enjoy a cd or song cuz the next skimpy dressed lil girl is releasing a single….all record label money is pumped into not so good singers, one album projects. remember back in 92-97..when an album was released and singles were taken of off that album for 2 years…all dosed..and u was all hyped about a new single or a new album comming out after two years…. it’s all to much now a days

I am proud of Amerie for speaking up in such an intelligent way. We keep getting bombarded with this same image over and over. Black women were always known as songstress in the music industry. Now it seems all black women are known for now is who can slide down the pole the quickest and the best at their concerts. Amerie can really sing. But if she appears to be slightly intelligent they will not promote her. With all the black female singers out now Beyonce is the best. I can’t even type that without getting sick to my stomach. I have never in my life seen someone so overrated. I think she is on her 13th minutes of her 15 minutes.

The sad part is that it is black men that’s behind this foolishness with black women in the music industry. It is all of these black men who puts all of this foolishness out. I can guarantee you when a truly gifted black woman comes out and she is displaying her talent it is not a black man who is pushing her. Which is truly sad.
